"Sadist! Wake up! Don't you dare die on me, yes!", Kagura shook Okita by the collar of his blood sullied clothes. Pure panic rose in her chest.

What should she do?

His face was pure white and his eyes half open. All the mischievous spark that normally emitted them were gone.

Not him too! Was all Kagura could think.

First her brother and now her rival.

It was a mistake ever coming here. She should've excepted her fate and die. This was all her fault. If only she never went to the Shinsengumi headquarters to hide out. If only she-

"Kagura, stop shaking him! You only make him bleed out faster!", suddenly Gin was next to her pulling her away from the unconscious man.

Till now the girl hadn't realized that her foster father was here. She looked at him, shocked at his state. He was bruised all over. One arm broken, blood in his face. It seemed like he got ran over by a tank.

The samurai ripped off a sleeve of his kimono and pressed it on Okitas wound to stop the bleeding.

"Oi! You damn vice chief! Lend me a fucking hand! That Sadist of yours is bleeding out!", the man yelled.

The Yato, still in shock looked ahead where a small group of people came running towards them. She knew these people. And the dog accompanying them too.

"Everyone…", what in the hell were they doing here?

Shinpachi and Sadaharu were the first one to reach her.

The bespectacled boy grabbed her by the shoulders pulling her into an embrace.

"I'm so glad! Kagura-chan, thank god!", next to him the giant dog whined. Normally she would punch him for such a embarrassing thing like hugging her in public but she only heard their voices like she had cotton in her ears as her focus switched back to the man on the ground. Hijikata appeared next to Gin pressing his ear on Okitas chest, checking if he still had a heartbeat.

No, please, no, she thought.

"He still has a heartbeat! Let's get him inside the ship!", the vice chief yelled while already picking up the other man.

He slumped one of Okitas arm over his shoulder, Gin taking care of the other side as they hurried back to the ship they came from.

Kagura looked after them. Still not able to move from the place she stood. Then her knees gave up. Luckily Shinpachi, who was still embracing her caught her.

"Kagura-chan! You have to get treated as well!", the young man tried to pull her towards the space craft only to be hold back by a hand on his shoulder. Shinpachi looked at the other Yato at the scene.

"Young fellow, I think the little miss should have a moment for herself. Go get to your comrades.", Abuto stoical said.

The glasses stand looked at his colleague who still was gazing with a two thousand yard stare in the direction of the space ship.

Being free of the man's embrace Kagura now slumped to the ground, her gaze not wavering.

"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree don't you think, little miss?", Abuto spoke up after a minute of silence.

The girls mouth moved but no words escaped her throat. She looked at her blood sullied shaking hands. She was no different.

Then the feeling hit her like the projectile of a bazooka.

Shame.

The first tear ran down her face as the small group of people just entered the spaceship.

She tried to be different, to change but deep down she was still the same monster as rest of her race. She gave in to the blood lust and let her instincts run wild hurting the people she loved as a result.

Her brother was dead. And all she could do was throwing a tantrum. Now the policeman she was in love with was on the brink of death as well.

"I wanted to change… I'm sorry.", she started weeping.

"Don't feel sorry. We all can be a little moody. Learning how to handle this is part of becoming an adult.", Abuto said as he looked into the sky.

The sun was about to rise in six hours. They should be here any minute.

The girl on the ground didn't listend and still cried like a small child.

He looked at the man he hold under his arm like a carpet. Kamui still wouldn't move. Abuto noticed that the wound in the lower chest of his commander already had almost healed. That was extraordinary fast even for one of their kind. But Abuto only shrugged it off. His commander survived worse, he was still breathing so he would live.

Then he heard the shrill noise of a landing air craft over the weeps of the girl.

Reinforcements. Fucking finally.

Only one thing left to do.

"Listen little miss. We will leave now. Not the planet per se but we will retreat for the orbit for a couple of days till the commander recovered."

Kagura snapped around. Her eyes were puffy and red. Making her look even scarier as she still was covered in blood from head to toe.

She jumped up. Limping towards the man, only noticing now that Abuto hold onto her brother. She stretched out her and grabbed her brothers braid of hair.

A wave of relief washed over her.

"He is alive?", and with this she passed out as well slumping against Abutos shoulder.

"When did I become a nanny for those siblings?", the Yato scoffed as the pirate ship landed behind them.

When Kagura woke up she found herself in a not unfamiliar environment.

A bunk bed a table and a chair in a badly lit room. Faintly she could see the outline of a young men snoozing off on said chair. Or was she just imagining it?

"Sadist…", she got up as a piercing pain shook her whole body.

It was back. The burning knife inside her bowels. She slumped over and spat blood over the sheets of the bed. Her breath was heavy as she looked in shock at the scarlet liquid.

She wasn't on Koan anymore. She felt it. It was like back on earth. Her brother came to her mind. Was he feeling like this as well in top of having a hole in his chest. She tried to get up. She fell back as she realized that both of her legs most like were most likely sprained. After some tries, she started to stagger towards the door gritting her teeth while ignoring the pain in her whole body. As she reached the exit the door opened on its own and a Yato she was unfamiliar with gawked at her.

"Who the fuck are you? How long was I asleep, yes?", she grunted.

The Yato now realized that Kagura was indeed no ghost but a living person and stormed towards her, grabbing her shoulders while trying to help her stand.

"Ma'am, the commander wants to see you. It's about returning to the surface. We have remained in the orbit of Kouan for about a day and you and the commander are suffering a relapse. You should take those, the commander gave them to me should you wake up.", he handed her some pills.

The same pills Kamui gave her before they landed in Koan. She didn't know what exactly was in those pills but she gladly ate them. It made her feel a little bit better immediately. Maybe it was just the placebo effect but she didn't cared.

The crewman escorted Kagura through the ship while helping her to walk. After a couple of minutes they arrived at a double door that opened as they stood in front of it. Behind the door was a barely lit room. Only a few lights of monitors illuminated the room. In the middle of it was a big desk where a person was sitting at. The girl recognized her brother immediately even though his face was hidden behind his bangs.

She pushed herself off the other guy and stumbled towards the desk. The crew mate left the room without another word, the door closed behind him.

Kamui looked up.

"You look like you're dead, yes", Kagura spoke up when she saw that her brother looked like a living corpse. She noticed that his arm was connected to a infusion what most likely kept him going right now. His upper body was wrapped in bandages.

Both him and her suffered from the separation of the planet and the symptoms returned, even though they only were away from the surface for a day according to the crew member. Not to talk about the fucking hole he had in his chest.

Her brother smiled, this time she knew it was genuine one. It reminded her of her mothers face shortly before she left them.

"Same as you, sister dear. Didn't they bring you some clothes?"

Only now Kagura noticed that she still was covered in blood. Some of this was her own blood though but most of it belonged to the mutant or what ever that was and her friends. She ripped her eyes away.

A short silence.

"What happened? Where is Gin-chan and the Sadist? What was that thing, yes? Why did it try to fool us with Mamis face?", she came closer.

Kamui sighed. He folded his hands together and laid his chin on them.

"Slow down. One thing at the time. First the obvious, we're dying again. You should've noticed as well that our condition was like nothing ever happened on the surface of the planet. Abuto even said that he noticed that even my wound was healing faster.", he looked at her with a sharp expression.

Kagura furrowed her brows. Then why were they here? Why were they not in the surface?

Kamui seemed to read her mind.

"Our DNA changed.", he simply said. Like he just told her that the newspaper just arrived.

"We got off the surface to prevent that mutation of our DNA. We've ran some test with Abuto as well. His stayed untouched, it's only ours. We originally planned to return immediately and set up camp somewhere but we don't know what could happen. That brings me to that creature…"

The girl wasn't the brightest but even she knew that if your DNA just changed on a whim that this meant no good. Unconscionable she touched her face. Was her body changing as well? Was she looking different?

Kamui pulled out some stacks of paper and pushed it towards her at the other end of the table.

"We contacted your earth bunch and they examined the policeman. They said-"

"Is he alive?", it blurted out of her.

The man looked at her.

"He is on the earth ship. It's in Koans orbit as well. They say that they won't leave until they heard from you. They also told me that this policeman was alive, even though I couldn't care less.", he shrugged.

Normally he would've just shot them down but for the sake of his sister he didn't do that. It would only end in an argument and neither of them was in a condition for that.

Kagura breathed out in delight. It felt like a huge rock fell out of her chest.

Thank goodness, she thought, I didn't kill him. Everyone is safe.

"Anyways, his DNA didn't changed either which means that shapeshifting fucker wasn't responsible for it. That thing was most probably just some mind reading mutant and those crystals were some material that just looked like Altana.", he himself was disappointed about this lame ass conclusion.

"But why did our DNA change, yes?"

The door of the room opened again. Abuto entered the room with some clothes in his hands and threw them at the girl.

"I see that you've woken up, little miss. I've brought you some spare clothes.", he grinned at her then turned to his superior.

"Commander, the ship of the earthlings is trying to contact us again. Shouldn't we finally answer? It's getting annoying."

Kamui sighed. He knew that somebody in this room had to make a decision in this room but this person wasn't him. He looked at his sister who seemed kind of conflicted if she should say something.

"Listen sister, you should talk to them. But-", his voice became stern.

"You have to choose, Kagura. Will you return with us to Koan and live or will you choose the same path as our mother?", Kamui looked at her with an unchanging expression.

Kagura averted her gaze. She knew that it would end this way. She knew that from the very beginning before even leaving earth.

Her mother chose death all those years ago so she could be with her family. Could she do the same? Could she throw away life to be with the people she loved?

The girl clenched her fist and stared her brother straight in the eye.

Okitas face came to her mind.

She opened her mouth.

"I-"
