The Wings of Demise

Chapter Four: Showdown in Hokkaido.

The Office of Goro Maki, Tokyo.

Goro Maki always considered himself to be a driven person, and a damn fine reporter, who would always find the truth. Of course, the current state of his office would not suggest that, as quite a few chairs were overturned, papers lay scattered on the floor, and on his walls, were pictures and pictures of various Titans, Kaiju, or whatever the hell they called them nowadays, and attached to them, were pins with strings all leading to a blank spot on the wall. Had it really been 14 years or 15 years ago when Godzilla resurfaced? Maki wasn't sure, he wasn't sure of anything anymore. It seemed like only yesterday when the Cold War was in full swing, the prime minister doing his best to call out America and Russia before they went at Godzilla with their nuclear bombs, and the Super X, a weapon made to fight in a war not against a kaiju, was deployed, allowing the world to witness what Japan had in case combat became physical. He remembered once looking into Daisuke Serizawa's background in college, or as Japan called him, "The Doctor who Destroyed Gojira." He had made sure to learn everything about him, how he had protested against the war way back when, how he had been drafted to fight in it, and the horror and trauma brought upon him due to seeing the atrocities the Imperial Army committed, to the point where he made absolutely sure to never mistreat any prisoners they had, treating them like fellow human beings. And what did he get for remaining a good person, for keeping his morals, for wanting to help his fellow man? A time in a Chinese prison camp, a lost eye, and a long trek back to Japan when all was said and done, and nightmares for the rest of his short life.

Maki was sure that the dragon in Okinawa had something to do with Destroyer's return, and SpaceGodzilla as well. He was sure of it. He had been gone from home for only a few hours now. He would solve this mystery. After all, it seemed to be Serizawa's Oxygen Destroyer killing Gojira that led to Godzilla coming around 30 years later. Of course, it was a long period of time when it happened, and this time it seemed to be much sooner, like time itself had changed with the new technology.

His report about Serizawa had gotten a good grade, but alas, his rival Katagiri's report about Yasuaki Shindo got the best grade. The professor was obviously biased, as Maki had noticed that Katagiri had left out quite a lot of stuff about Shindo, like his killing of innocent civilians during the occupation of China, but it was obvious that he was more favored than a man who kept his morals. Maybe it was some sort of justice when Godzilla killed him way back when King Ghidorah attacked. As if his very last victim had come back to pass judgement on him, and pay him back for all the death he caused.

What was the big event that led to this happening? There always seemed to be a big event for these kaiju to return. The Nuclear Tests in the Pacific was one event, as by then humanity had begun harnessing their full destructive potential. Godzilla only died two years (or was it three years? Maki was too busy pinning another picture up) ago. Nothing happened at all during that time. No. Was it his death opening the floodgates for some new alpha to take over? There were more of these creatures coming, after all Sho Kuroki (Former Pilot of the Super X-2 and the Super X-3 and reserve pilot for Garuda) had told him about the strange activity that was recently monitored somewhere in the Pacific, like a massive storm which seemed to be heralded by a strange purple lizard kaiju who was only briefly glimpsed. Maki was sure of it…... there was something out there, something causing all of this strange phenomenon.

Not something. Someone. It was someone doing all of this. And Maki was coming closer and closer to finding who it was.

Marrying Naoko Okumura was the happiest day of his day, and their son Ichiro was growing into a fine young man. However, he did not approve of Ichrio's friends, feeling as if they were close to making his son go down a dark path. Ichrio should be getting home from school now by his calculations, of course he made sure to tell Naoko and Ichrio that he'd be working late. What was that banging sound? Must be a bum looting for some food or shit like that. His radio went off with a loud crackle, saying something about the dragon appearing somewhere near Hokkaido, and that evacuations were preceding. The banging got louder and louder as Maki gripped his pen tighter and tighter, looking at the wall covered in papers.

It made way too much sense. Someone was doing all of this, and the more and more Maki looked at his findings he couldn't help but feel that the answer would lead him to something unspeakably evil. Something only that he had dreamed of before. It made sense, right? For everything that existed, there would always be something to balance it out. Good and Evil. White and Black. Yin and Yang. Angels and Demons. Some believed that the universe was made by someone, and if they existed, then wouldn't an opposite exist?

The door to his office banged down, and in rushed Ichrio with Inspector Osako, along with several policemen and Naoko. Maki turned around, his grey hair and bloodshot eyes taking in the people before him. His shirt was half unbuttoned, his tie hanging off, his hands covered with paper cuts, and he seemed almost like he was in a trance, staring blankly at the crowd. He opened his mouth, but found himself unable to form words when he heard Ichrio and Naoko saying something, while Osako opened up his flask, his eyes wide with horror at the wall behind him.

It hadn't been a few hours since he was gone.

It had been a few days.

And Goro Maki had learned something no human should've learned.

The Skies Above to Hokkaido Forest.

Leo had quit struggling some time ago, and all he could do now was stare down at the ground below. The ocean was giving away to some land that he didn't recognize, and he did not know when it would stop. Desghidorah had a tight grip on him, all four of the dragon's limbs gripping his body, making sure to not accidently cut into him. "I must not fear, fear is the mind killer. I've got to get out somehow. I don't know what he will do with me…. I was so stupid. But I couldn't let him hurt Mom. I don't want him to hurt Junior….. So, I gotta do this for them…. I have to get out…. I just need to wait for the right moment. I must not fear, fear is the mind killer." Leo slowed down his breathing, and watched the ground, his body lightly charging up with cosmic energy.

"I feel a bit tingly," Vicious remarked, before firing off a flame attack and immolating several jets flying at him and the others, "I don't know what it is, but I sense something."

"Oh, you're probably still excited from that fight you bloodthirsty asshole," Nutcase moaned, "Probably getting off to the fact that I LOST MY EYE TO A OVERGOWN LOBSTER WHILE TRYING TO GRAB THIS LITTLE BRAT!" Leader snapped at both of them as another jet slammed into Desghidorah, and the rest fell to several Crimson Beams fired out of all three of them. The heads did not notice Leo charging up his cosmic energy, being too preoccupied with flying somewhere.

"You two, now is not the time for this," Leader huffed as Nutcase and Vicious looked at him, a look of annoyance in both of their faces, "We have what we want, and now we must get to a safe place away from the Earth Defenders, away from the human maggots, and away from…. Bagan…..Father….. I will work on fixing your eye later, or maybe seeing if Dagahra can help us, but for now SHUT UP!" They were coming up to a forest now, and Leo saw that he had a good chance of escaping right then and there….. aside from the seemingly knocked out kaiju near a mountain.

"Hey kid, you've been silent lately." Desghidorah moved his claws up, allowing Nutcase to stare Leo in the face. "What? Are you-AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH YOU DAMN BASTARD!" Silk covered Nutcase, and the energy surged through his head, loosening Desghidorah's grip, causing Leo to fall all the way down to the forest.

"YOU IDIOT!" Leo quickly fired off more silk as the wind whipped around him, managing to create a net near some trees. Landing gently, Leo fell through the silk, and bounced off of the ground in the forest, taking down some trees with his weight. Quickly shaking himself, he quickly started to crawl away, his brown flesh changing to that of the many colors of the trees and ground. He looked up once more at the fallen behemoth, noticing the golden mane and staff, and started to wonder what exactly the creature was. "YOU LET HIM GET AWAY!" Leo could hear the middle head's voice all the way from the ground, the rage searing into his very soul.

"OF COURSE, IT WOULD BE YOU!" Vicious pulled the rest of the silk off of Nutcase, making sure to remove some of his scales as well. "THIS PLAN WAS GOING PERFECTLY, UNTIL YOU RUINED IT!"

"Me? Me ruin it?" Desghidorah started to descend, his massive wings flapping as he landed roughly in a clearing, causing the ground to crack some. "Well gee, maybe I was checking in case he was dead, which would you mean you ruined the plan because you squeezed him too tight!" The two glared at each other for a few more seconds, before Desghidorah looked around at the forest he was in, and up at the orange sky, watching as the sun slowly moved across the sky. "Oh look, it's our old friend. King Caesar was it?" Leo stayed hidden upon hearing this, and he watched as Desghidorah approached the prone kaiju, or King Caesar as the head called him, and then kicked the body. "Bah."

"Hey kid… you out there?" The middle head was talking now, his voice's harsh tone going down, as if he was trying to speak softly. Leo crawled further amongst the trees, trying to stay as quiet as he could be. "I understand…. you're scared of me. I don't want to kill you at all if that is what you are thinking." Desghidorah walked over to a patch of trees, his footsteps booming as Leo kept moving, hoping that the dragon would not find him. "Your mother…. Oh, she doesn't appreciate you. Anguirus was it? He doesn't think of you as a friend. He just sees you as an obstacle, a thing in the way of…. oh, dare I say it…. fucking her like a whore." Leo stopped moving, his heart beating rapidly as he could hear the head's voice dripping with pleasure as the insults flew. Desghidorah was trying to draw him out, make him angry enough to make a mistake, and then recapture him.

"I won't give into you….. It's just words, nothing more….. I must remain calm." Then suddenly Leo felt a burst of heat above his head, and watched as three jets of flame flew over his head, igniting the trees in front of him.

"I can smell you boy," Vicious licked his lips while he sniffed in the air. "The scent of fear gives you away. You are afraid that what I have said is true don't you?" Desghidorah set more parts of the land ablaze, staring to box in where he thought Leo was. "I will burn down this entire land if I have to, or maybe I'll be doing your mother a favor." The smoke filled the air as the flames started spreading to the mountains, and Leo moved faster, the smell overwhelming his senses.

"Buuuuttttt, maybe it isn't just those two who think you're worthless," Nutcase hissed as Desghidorah started uprooting trees, and tossing them around. "That big monkey lost his entire family, so he just sees you as a reminder of his loss. The crystal guy wants to redeem himself so badly, but it's hard to do that when a kid is always around. And saving the best for last…." Leo started to climb up one of the mountains as he watched the flames beneath him grow bigger and bigger, and then could see Desghidorah staring right at him, his red eyes pericing through the smoke. "You fell in love with a Jira Tribe member. The son of Godzilla, enemy of your mother, and you fell in love with him. Not only is it an abomination, but wow… even he doesn't like you….. How pathetic is that?"

"Pathetic? I could say the same about you," Leo growled as Desghidorah got closer and closer, his cosmic energy surging through his body. "All of this, it's just an attempt to prove yourself to your father isn't it?! In that case, I'd rather die than let you corrupt me, turn me into something I'm not! I am Mothra Leo, Desghidorah! I WILL NOT BACK DOWN!"

Desghidorah roared in a rage as Leo raised himself up, and then from the heavens, a bright light broke through the smoke, and a beam of blue slammed Desghidorah to the ground, and Leo looked up, and saw something beautiful.

"MOM!"

Hokkaido Forest: The Earth Defenders vs The Wings of Demise.

Moll, Lora, and Belvera listened as Mothra flew in silence, sensing the turbulent emotions of their master. "Sisters," Belvera spoke, the silence being broken by her nervous tone, "I….. I'm scared…. I can't break my promise to my master…"

"Bel, she will be fine," Lora reassured the scared moth, "Master Lea has survived much worse in the past. She went through the humans' war machines to get to us, and she was just fine in the end."

"Listen Bel, you can't panic right now." Moll was speaking even gentler to her sister. "We must be brave for her, brave for her son, brave for her lover, and brave for our friends." Belvera took in her sister's words, and then stayed silent, reflecting on them. She was right, now was not the time for panic.

"The forest Gurius….. they are there… both of them." Anguirus could hear the rage dripping in Mothra's voice, and the concern that went along with it. Neo was right behind them along with Kong, and in the distance, they could see a large cloud of smoke breaking out amongst the forests of Japan. Junior was below in the ocean, swimming faster and faster, until he reached the mainland well ahead of them. "Listen to me Gurius….. I will drop you down soon, and when I do, wait for my signal to attack. Rescuing Leo is our first priority. We can't mess this up. Do you understand?"

"Always." With that, Mothra let go of Anguirus, and he landed next to Junior, the two watching the fire spread amongst the trees, making it hard to see what was going on. "This forest," Anguirus observed as he and Junior waited, "These trees…. I haven't seen them before…. I was stuck on the island my whole life, and I didn't know if they ever existed…. There's a lot I didn't know about the outside world. And now, they're burning. Disappearing…."

"I wish I could've taken you here under better circumstances Gurius," Junior sighed, "I wish I could've taken Leo here under better circumstances… but now, we must fight to save him." He looked up, seeing Kong land gently next to him and Anguirus, and Neo fly higher up into the sky, as the smoke grew bigger and bigger. Kong picked up a fallen tree, looking at it as memories of his old home flooded back to him, and seeing the smoke in the distance made him scowl in anger, dropping the tree as he got ready to charge.

"When is the signal Junior? I got a bone to pick with that three-headed freak…... because kidnapping someone's kid is really low…..." Kong still thought of his mother when he saw Mothra's desperation, and this time…... He would make sure that Leo would be able to go home with her. Neo flew higher and higher, watching as Mothra flew right above several rocky and vegetation covered hills and cliffs, her body glowing blue in her chest. He slowed his breathing down, and focused on locations to place his crystals.

"Neo…" It wasn't Biollante speaking to him, it was the voice again…... or as he decided to call it, The Beast. From the little he had seen of the being during his episode in the cave, it was a fitting moniker. "Look at her, how heartbroken she is now. She weeps for her child, who was taken from her, by someone like you no less. Do you really owe her anything? You could strike her down right now….. say it was an accident….. she flew in the way of your crystal….. It's what you heart desires isn't it? You enjoyed hurting your father didn't you? You are a monster….. give in….." For a few minutes Neo almost felt as if the Beast was making sense….. then he could see Mothra finally fire her chest beam in a rage, and quickly launched his crystals at the ground, only saying one more thing before he flew down.

"Silence!"

The signal was set, and Anguirus, Kong, and Junior charged at Desghidorah, who turned around seeing them all. Anguirus attacked first, rolling into Desghidorah as Mothra fired prism beams at him, causing him to move back from Leo as a massive crystal flew out of the ground, sending him flying up in the air. Junior's atomic ray boomed as it blasted Desghidorah, and Leo watched as Kong's chain swung Desghidorah into a mountain, narrowly missing the prone body of Caesar. "Mom… you came….. you all did….." Mothra flew over to Leo, and nuzzled him, before giving him a silent instruction to keep moving so he wouldn't be hurt. Junior then charged and before Desghidorah could react, Neo had sliced into his back with his crystal blades, allowing Junior to tail swipe him into the path of one of Mothra's sigils. Golden chains held down Desghidorah as Mothra flew towards him in her Lightspeed form, quickly slashing the beast and opening up several cuts on his body. The sigil disappeared as Mothra changed back, and Desghidorah quickly roared as the group rushed towards him again, and raised his front legs up, slamming them on the ground and causing the ground of Hokkaido to erupt with more flames. The group fell back as the fire shot out, and watched as Desghidorah started to charge himself up.

"Since you did not learn your lesson back at the island," all three of Desghidorah's heads snarled, "YOU WILL LEARN IT HERE!" The flames in Hokkaido swirled around him, and Desghidorah roared as he flew up in the air, launching flames at the Earth defenders. Kong and Mothra dodged while Junior took the full brunt of them, backing away while Anguirus and Neo charged at Desghidorah, sonic booms crackling as Anguirus fired out more projectiles at the dragon. Neo tried to punch Desghidorah, only to be met with a fiery fist as the flames suddenly turned into an armored human, resembling what some humans called a "samurai." The fire samurai then punched Neo and the two started to punch each other rapidly, crystal encased fists colliding with flames as Desghidorah moved away, satisfied with his creation. Anguirus leaped onto Desghidorah's back, biting and clawing the dragon while Junior rushed through the flames and started to grapple with the three heads. Desghidorah fired out more flames as Junior strangled his middle head, and another fiery samurai emerged, and Kong quickly started to clash his axe with a sword the construct summoned, the two trying to overpower each other. Junior started to scream in pain when the other two heads bit into his arm and chest, discharging crimson energy into the young Kaiju's body. Anguirus bit onto the left head, and pulled it away, with some blood leaking out in between his fangs. Desghidorah started to charge up energy again, only to see Junior doing the same, and before both could stop, the Nuclear Pulse and Desghidorah's energy wave went off at the same time. The explosion blew Anguirus away, and more of Hokkaido forest was set ablaze as Mothra quickly flew down, pulling Leo away as a mountain was disintegrated by the intense blast, while Caesar's body was pushed away, landing near the area of the dam. Elsewhere, Neo was still battling the samurai, the two having drawn closer to a dam, which was holding back an immense lake. Neo saw a flame blast come towards him and quickly reflected it back at the samurai with his shield.

"What the hell are you?" Neo turned into his flying form, drawing in energy from some of the crystals around the battlefield as he saw the warrior sprout bat wings from its back and fly towards him with two long blades drawn out. "Fine then, I'll fight you on your own terms. Mom give me strength!" His own arm blades came out as the two dueled in the air, crystals launching out of the ground as the samurai dodged each one.

"Hey buddy, you want to see something?" Kong quickly dodged another sword swing from the other samurai, and then quickly summoned lighting down to him, the bolt going directly into his body as he swung his axe at the samurai, cutting into its chest. "THUNDER MODE ACTIVATE!" Another bolt came down, and Kong's Thunder Mode activated, this time the blue glow in his eyes glowing even brighter than on Skull Island. The training with Junior and the others had paid off, although the ape couldn't help but think that he still had yet to reach his full potential. Creating a Thunder Ball, he charged towards the samurai, and thrust his hand with the ball into it, carrying the samurai along as he ran towards Desghidorah. The dragon was standing in a crater, recovering as he picked up Junior, and started to crush his neck with his maw. Prism beams from Mothra quickly made him drop Junior, and as he snapped at her, he then saw Kong rushing towards him. The samurai and Thunder Ball exploded as they hit Desghidorah, and the dragon screeched as part of his chest blew off. The dragon then saw Kong swinging his axe again and took to the air to dodge the swing, before grabbing Kong and flying away with him up in the air, all the while Mothra pursued the dragon and continued to use her beams, the two firing at each other as Junior collapsed in pain, and Leo moved over to him. Elsewhere, Neo and the other samurai locked blades once more, before a quick Corona Beam and Shockwave attack caused the samurai to start flickering, and Neo grabbed its throat, and glared at it before tossing down towards the lake.

"Sayonara." A big cloud of steam shot up in the air as the samurai evaporated, and Neo saw Desghidorah and Mothra's duel in the air. He quickly started to fly over to the two of them, praying he would get there in time. Kong bit onto Desghidorah's leg, and discharged his lightning into him, only for the dragon to blast Kong point blank with crimson beams and flame blasts, sending the ape falling back down to Hokkaido. Neo changed direction and rushed towards him, the wind blowing the smoke around Hokkaido as the fire continued to spread, and night fell. He reached out, but he was too late, and Kong hit the ground hard, a massive blue explosion signaling the end of his Thunder Mode, and leaving the ape lying in a crater, near where Junior and Caesar lay. Anguirus had limped over to Junior and tried to help him up, and Neo landed next to Kong, putting his hand over his head. Kong's arm suddenly shot up and grabbed Neo's arm, and the ape weakly opened his eyes, and told him one thing.

"Don't worry…about….me…. Help her…." Neo looked up, and saw that Mothra and Desghidorah were still dogfighting in the skies above, and that Mothra was starting to falter in her combat. More flames surround the three headed dragon, and several swords made out of them appeared above him, and they were sent at Mothra who barely dodged them all, one slicing into her side. Neo turned back into his flying form, and he flew high into the sky, praying he would get to Mothra in time.

"Well Guardian," Leader spoke as one of his crimson beams hit Mothra's wing, severing the edge of it and causing her to scream in pain, "You seem to be getting weaker. Have you really used up all of your energy already? Are you ready to give up?" Mothra then charged into Desghidorah, and blasted him point blank with her prism beams. Instead, his heads bit into her neck, left wing, and one of her legs, which Vicious ripped off, sending the limb down the earth.

"I…. urk…" Mothra gagged as his jaws clamped down harder on her. "…. Never…." Belvera shot out of her body and blasted Leader's eye, and that was all it took for Neo to catch up, and thrust his blades into the dragon's sides, and the dragon let go of Mothra completely, causing her to fall back to earth gently. She landed and groaned in pain, her blood seeping from her missing leg, her throat, and her other wounds.

"MOM! Oh no…." Leo was right beside her, and Anguirus followed as he managed to help Junior stand, the kaiju beckoning him to go to her. "Mom… we gotta get out of here… He's going to kill you…. It's all my fault… If I hadn't…. If I had just listened to you …..." Both he and Anguirus helped support her as she limped towards Junior, Kong, and Caesar. The Shobijin came out of her as Belvera flew up to Neo, and they quickly started trying to heal her. However, Mothra stopped them, feeling their own lives starting to drain, and she turned to Leo, looking in his eyes.

"Leo… it's not your fault my son…. I should've known that one day… that our home would be attacked one day…. And that I couldn't keep you away from this…."

"But, mom…. I…. I…."

"Leo… listen to me." Mothra sounded stern now, making sure Leo would pay attention. "We must kill him…. Because if we don't then this will never end, and he will keep coming back…. You have to be brave for me…. My baby boy." Leo nuzzled his mother once again, and sobbed quietly as Neo and Desghidorah clashed in the sky.

Hokkaido was still burning, and the Earth Defenders could only pray for a miracle.

Author's Note: Hello once again, and I hope you are all doing well. So this chapter took me a long time to make, and I hope you all enjoy it. Now I do want to address a few things, first being that I will be making another voice actor change, and that is Leo, as Yuri Lowenthal to me suits him better, and so I will go back and make sure to make everything consistent with this change, and also in the future, although I do not know when this will be as I have been really busy, but whenever that happens, I will make sure it gets done. Next is that I have been rewatching several Godzilla films, and also saw Gamera Guardian of the Universe for the first time, so they have helped me with this fic. And since it was Goro Maki who stared in the first Heisei Godzilla film, I figured it would be fitting to see what happens to him here, and well, poor guy has been traumatized. That being said, main focus is still on the Kaiju, so we might not see any humans again until another interlude (if their part fits) or maybe near the end.
