Interlude: Training and Growing.
Monster Island: One Week After Desghidorah.
In his cave, Neo looked at the entrance to the crystal chamber, and smiled slightly, having made all of the necessary modifications he needed to improve it. While he was alone right now, he would soon be joined by the rest of the Earth Defenders, along with the Shobijin as well, something that made Neo feel a little sick to his stomach. He had never had that many kaiju in his cave before, let alone his brother, aside from Kong, and he wondered if this training would help them. "I know you're there….. show yourself!" Neo had felt the presence near him, and moving fast glanced at the pool, seeing Biollante right in the middle of it. "Mom…. It's you! Sorry, I thought you were someone else." In his mind, Neo couldn't help but question this sudden appearance, the kaiju standing there as he tried to figure out what he should do
"Neo….. are you okay? Last time we talked…. You wanted to know why I wasn't with you….." Neo looked at her some more, trying to figure out what exactly was going on, before he answered her.
"Yes….. and you left me there…. You left me alone…. Do you know of the Beast? Is that why you have been silent? Tell me." At this Biollante reared back just a bit, and looked around, her face having a nervous expression.
"…. You've given it a name haven't you? Then you know already what the answer is my son," Biollante sadly replied. "I'm afraid my curse has been passed down to you….. and so, I cannot help you with this." Neo suddenly felt his heart beating rapidly as he fully processed what she meant by that statement. "If you continue to talk to me like this, you risk the Beast having further influence on your mind, as it did me long ago." At this, Neo looked deep into his memories, namely into the shared memories of Godzilla and Biollante, causing her to take a concerned look on her face. He could see a laboratory now, and several humans having a gunfight with what appeared to be a smaller Rose Biollante looking on, trying to stay calm. Then suddenly, her demeanor changed, and the plant monster lashed out, quickly killing two of the humans while laughing wildly, before realizing what she had done and quickly leaving the lab right out of a broken window towards the lake. "Because of that…. I must leave you now…. Do not contact me again unless you need it Neo. I am sorry it has to be this way." And with that, Biollante faded away, and Neo no longer saw her in the pool.
"Farewell mom…." In truth, he wished she could've stayed, even just in his mind, but he knew that she was right. Neo walked over to some of the moss in the cave, and placed his hand on it, and could see Leo flying toward his cave, along with the rest of the group following. "Here we go."
"Hey Neo! You there!?" Kong led the group in through the cave, the other kaiju looking at the crystals and the pool, and then noticing Neo standing in the middle, and off to his left, the crystal chamber. Junior, Kong, and Angurius stood there, while Leo hovered off of the ground, waiting for Neo to respond.
"Welcome…. I know it's taken me some time to do this, but I have fully prepared a new way for all of you to train. My crystal chamber is something that only I and Kong have used before, as in the past, it could only fit two of us at a time." Neo noticed that his hand was trembling, and quickly shut it, hiding it from the others. He then noticed Lora, Moll, and Belvera flying in, the three Shobijin sitting on a crystal. "I can't explain how it works that well, as it will be easier to show you all. Are there any other questions you have?"
"Neo…. Is this dangerous?" Junior was looking at the chamber as he asked this, sniffing around it as he inspected the entrance. "What I mean is, can we go all out in here without causing harm to each other?"
"Junior….. I promise this will be safe. Nobody will be harmed as long as you remain in the chamber." Neo made sure to look into Junior's eyes, to let him know he was telling the truth about the chamber. "If there are no more questions, then follow me into the chamber, and let's begin." Nobody else asked anything, and they all walked into the chamber after Neo, taking in the sight of the chamber's crystal covered interior. The door slid closed behind them, and now all five kaiju stood in a circle as Neo sent energy into the chamber, causing the walls and floor to seemingly disappear.
"Woah! What's happening?" Anguirus looked around, and saw what appeared to be a starfield now in place of the crystals. "Is this outer space?"
"No Guirus, let Neo explain," Kong answered, "Trust me, it will make sense." Neo looked at the group, and let his crest glow as he started speaking.
"How this chamber functions is quite simple really. All of this is a projection made by implanting some of my cosmic energy into the crystals, allowing it to expand beyond what you see before you. You will be able to go all out in here as my energies will keep your powers contained, and pose no threat to the island. Should you choose so, you can allow the chamber to separate you and have it pit yourself against an opponent you draw from your memories as a way to train your body and mind. Or you can train in groups if you want. Now, while these opponents you face are nothing more than hard light constructs, you better be careful whom you summon. You may not like what you see, and I don't need to tell you why you shouldn't pick Bagan." With that Neo stopped talking as he looked at the group, waiting for them to respond.
"I'll do some training on my own Neo," Kong said, the ape walking off to part of the starfield and sitting down as it seemed to envelop him. Within his own personal chamber, Kong thought of an enemy, and soon Ramarak and Varan came into view like they had did in the past. He leaped at the two of them, quickly firing lightning bolts at the two constructs. Elsewhere, Anguirus had stepped away from the group into another corner of the chamber, and he too was seemingly enveloped by it.
"So, it uses your mind huh? Alright, let's test this." The dinosaur sat down, and thought long and hard, until an image popped into his mind. Anguirus opened his eyes, and saw Destoroyah standing right there, waiting for him to react. "I could get used to this…. And I could get stronger this way….." Anguirus leaped at the construct, which roared at him, and started clawing and wrestling with It, knowing how dangerous the real deal had been. After Desghidorah however, Anguirus decided to leave nothing to chance. Only Neo, Junior, and Leo were left in the original chamber now, and all three looked at each other.
"Alright Neo….. can you help me with my psychic powers here? I'm ready." Junior stood there, waiting for Neo to respond, when suddenly Leo spoke up.
"Neo…. I want the same training too. We can learn from you together right?" The moth looked at the space kaiju, and waited too for him to answer. "I have a small grasp on my psychic abilities, but there's room for improvement."
"Of course you both can. Now come near me, and be ready." Neo's hands reached out, and clutched Junior's hand, and one of Leo's front claws, holding them gently. Junior reached out to Leo's free claw and held it too, feeling the soft fluff against his scales, and once again feeling the warm feeling in his chest. Neo's crest started to glow brighter and brighter, and then Junior's eyes started to glow red as he fell into a deep trance, followed by Leo's antennae and gems glowing a nice shade of green as well, and soon, all three were in a trance. "We are no longer awake now, we are communicating through our minds and our thoughts, we have left our bodies behind. Do you understand?"
Junior looked down below, and could see his own body standing there in the starfield and then looked around, listening as Neo spoke. He could hear him clearly this time, and he felt as if this usage of his psychic powers seemed to go more smoothly than last time. Junior looked around some more, before he tried to talk. "Hey….. I….. understand…. I… understand…." He spoke, or rather thought slowly, trying to make sure he could form a complete sentence. "Hhhhh….. Hard…. To…. Speak….."
"Junior, I can hear you." Leo too could see his body in the starfield, and while he could speak just fine, he still had to concentrate to maintain the connection between the three of them. "I understand now Neo…. It's like we are projecting our thoughts right?"
"Leo.. I… hear you…" Junior was starting to be able to speak much clearer now, and in spite of the nagging pain in his head, he continued to concentrate with his psychic abilities. "I hear you…. How am I?"
"You are learning brother," Neo answered, his voice echoing throughout the chamber, "If you keep doing this with me and Leo, you will find it easier to speak, and easier to peer into the minds of others. You will also find a way to shield your mind from mental attacks, or use it against the enemy." Neo's voice almost seemed soothing to Junior as he continued to talk, and Junior started to feel as if the pain was leaving. "Try talking again brother, and imagine you are talking as you normally do. Feel the words leaving your mouth."
"I.. must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer," Junior repeated to himself, feeling as if the pain was going away. "I can talk…. More…. Freely now….."
"I can see your thoughts Junior," Leo murmured, feeling the emotions of the young kaiju and seeing how he was trying to form his words. "And I can see yours too Neo… what is The Beast?"
"We're done here." Neo quickly cut off the connection, and Junior woke up from his dream like state, his head buzzing a bit as his eyes stopped glowing. There was blood coming out of his eyes, but only a minimal amount compared to the last time he used his powers. Leo too regained consciousness, and he looked at Neo, who was staring at the both of them. "That was just a test Leo….. you passed…. And brother…. Keep doing this. You don't have to do it with me all the time." With that, Neo turned around, his troubled look disturbing Leo a bit, and watched as Kong and Angurius came back into their view, the two looking battle worn and yet confident in their abilities.
Junior got up, and he too would train that day in the chamber alongside Leo, the two conjuring up constructs of Desghidorah and Destoroyah. While the day would end with the group having to heal some of their minor injuries with mana from Neo's crystals, they felt as if they had gained something.
And they would come back again and again.
Monster Island: One Month after Desghidorah.
"Hey Leo, how's it going? You need any pointers?" Junior was in the ocean, his eyes glowing as he telepathically communicated with the moth. There was an answer as Leo burst out of the water in his aqua form, and sent a giant octopus flying towards the beach, knocking it senseless as Leo then fired out an X-Shaped energy blast and fried it.
"I think I'm getting the hang of this Junior….." Leo then moved towards the shore as Junior did too, and quickly turned back into his regular form. "You're getting better with your telepathy too, just keep using it like Neo said." Junior walked up on shore, and eying several Kamacurai who had been attracted there by the smell of the meat, quickly scared them off.
"Alright let's take a break now, I think we've trained enough for today." Hours earlier, Junior and Leo had sparred underwater, and while Junior did overpower the moth, Leo had gained valuable experience in using his Aqua Form. It was much easier for Junior to use telepathy now, although he had not tried anything beyond it just yet. "You hungry Leo?"
"Yeah…. I think this will be enough for the both of us." Junior started to rip off one of the octopi's tentacles while Leo took dainty little bites out of the head, the two looking up at the sun in the sky, and sitting there quietly. "So," Leo spoke after a while, catching Junior's attention, "Where do you think King Caesar is right now?"
"Hm? I don't know Leo," Junior answered as the two continued to eat, "I'm sure he'll get here when he gets here….. whenever that is. Why do you ask?" Leo looked at the ground, before he looked at Junior again.
"Well…. he'd said he'd join us, and after…. after what happened to Mom….." Leo started to tremble just a bit as he said this. "….. I'm sorry Junior…. I know it's been a while….. but I dreamt about her last night. It was a beautiful dream…. She was here with us again… so that's why I asked…. He seemed so grateful to have met us, and I think Mom would be happy if someone like him joined us." Junior moved over closer to Leo, and let the moth rest his head against his chest, and feel the warmth. "Thank you Junior…. For listening to me." Leo felt the heartbeat of the kaiju, and thought to himself, "You're my friend Junior….. but I still love you…. I know you don't feel that….. but I will always feel that way…."
"You're welcome Leo…. I know you still feel alone without her….. but she is still here in all of our hearts….. So, did she say anything in the dream?" Leo rubbed his head against Junior's chest, feeling extremely relaxed, and after taking a few more bites from the carcass, spoke again.
"She did…. she said to keep on fighting, and that she would be there to watch over us…." Leo sighed, a bit happier this time, and then continued to talk. "Junior…. I have another question for you. The mind killer phrase….. did your dad ever talk about where it came from?"
"… Well Leo, let me explain….. It was a phrase he said he came up with himself, because when he was younger and when he awakened in this new world, he often would let his fear control his actions, and it hurt him. He felt that by repeating the phrase to himself, he could work past the fear, and convince himself to not let it control him like it always did. It's why I say it a lot sometimes, so it doesn't control me." Junior finished off the rest of the carcass, and laid back, snorting some of the sand out of his nose.
"Ah I see…. Makes sense to me." Leo crawled up, and sat on Junior's chest and belly, his wings fluttering in the breeze just a bit. For a few minutes, Junior wondered what else to say to Leo, and there was one nagging thought in his head that wouldn't leave.
"So Leo…. Why did you fall in love with me exactly? I know you told me before, but is there anything else you want to say about it?" Leo looked at Junior, wondering if the other kaiju had something on his mind. "Just tell him you idiot….. tell him….."
"Well….. I can tell you something new about it…. thing is…. I felt like you were trustworthy when I saw you. The way you spoke to me, and how you welcomed me out gently… I knew that you and Anguirus weren't going to hurt me. And after a few days, I felt comfortable talking to you, like I could tell you anything. And then, the more I talked with you, the more I started to see how you were as a kaiju, and then after a while….. well I had realized I saw you as a potential mate." Junior listened, and sighed deeply at this, thinking about his own feelings towards the moth, and how they had been developing as well. Leo looked at Junior as he did this, and continued to eye him with suspicion, wondering what was going on with him.
"I see now…. Thank you for answering me Leo. Let's relax now okay?" Leo nuzzled Junior's chest, and soon the two were laying under the sun, letting its rays bathe them in warmth. In his mind Junior cursed himself, saying, "He told you why he fell in love with you, why can't you do the same? Are you that nervous?" Then a shadow fell over both of them, and a familiar face was standing over them
"Hmmm….. Hello again young Leo and Junior. I see you two are doing well." King Caesar was standing there in the sunlight, his staff stuck in the ground, and a big smile on his face. Leo immediately flew off of Junior, and making sure he could see Caesar face to face, had a happy expression on his face. Junior got up too, wondering where Caesar had been all this time and what had happened to him. "I suppose I should explain myself, and where I have been all this time."
"Yeah Caesar," Leo answered, "We were wondering what happened to you."
"Well…. it took me a while or so to fix the island after the battle with Bagan's Spawn, and then I went back to the humans' place to see if they needed any aid with their rebuilding. I am happy to say that Hokkaido Forest is healing, although it will take quite a while. But there is something else…. Can you take me to the rest of your allies?" Caesar's smile faded just a bit as Leo nodded yes, and he and Junior started leading Caesar to where Anguirus, Neo and Kong were. Kong was busy resting on the beach in front of Neo's cave, the sizzle of his electricity still present in the air, and Anguirus was lying down looking at the water, a longing look in his eyes. The Shobijin were flying around Leo, waiting to see what he would do.
"Hey Guirus, Kong," Junior called out, the two looking at him as he said this, "Where's Neo? Caesar's back." Inside of the cave, Neo removed one of his hands from the vegetation on the cavern wall, and thought for a few minutes. While it had only happened a few weeks ago, the fact that Leo had learned of the Beast scared the space kaiju greatly. He had lied that it was merely a test, but even then, Neo couldn't be sure if Leo had believed him or not. And now that Caesar had arrived, Neo wondered if he too could detect the Beast, and how long he could keep that hidden.
"Hiding me from the others are you? You coward….. perhaps I should've let you die on that planet…" Neo's body started to shake as he heard the voice, and he began to pant as he felt his hand trembling, and a sense of dread fill his mind. "Maybe Shadow of RED would've taken your very soul, and I could have this body all to myself. Regardless…. You cannot escape me forever…. I am a part of you…. I always have been you murderer….. And you know it don't you Neo? Even now…. You want to strike down Leo…. So he doesn't tell your secret…. DO IT!" Neo then felt his vision growing red as he saw the strange mix of Biollante's vine and his own flesh appear behind him, and then another one as a massive shape drew a shadow over him. "Eventually they all will find out, and they will all hate you….. and they'll abandon you… because you are worthless…. NOW DO IT!"
"…. Shut up…." Neo quickly discharged energy and the Beast roared as it disappeared, leaving Neo free to exit the cave. "If I am so worthless…. Then why did Mothra save me? Why don't you think that over?"
"Oh there he is." Leo gestured to Caesar upon seeing the space kaiju exit out of the cave, and waited until Neo walked over completely before talking again. "So Caesar, what is it you have to say to us all?"
"While I come to you all as an ally and protector, I have also come here to give you all a grave warning. The dead have been disturbed." Everyone went silent at this statement, wondering what the guardian meant by that. "In the seas, where a behemoth once lay slain by human hands, his remains have been removed…. I fear Bagan has brought him back to life….." Neo thought back to the memory Destoroyah had shown him, how he saw the creature called Gojira, weary and tired, wiped out by a human weapon. If Bagan had really brought him back to life, how twisted would this creature become?
"You mean to tell me that Bagan's really bringing others back to life? He could've brought my parents back….. but as….." Kong punched the ground in frustration, causing a lightning bolt to come down and turn the sand into glass. "But as…. his tools… Damn it…. And I almost handed them over to him….." Anguirus too started to shake, thinking about something that was always fresh in his mind. They had never found his father's body after all….
"….. Thank you Caesar…. For telling us all," Leo answered, ruminating on his thoughts and thinking about what to do next. "Junior…. What do you think we should all do?" Everyone looked at him, waiting for him to speak.
"…. All we can do is do as Caesar said and keep a sharp eye out for things like this. We need to keep up on training, and we need to be vigilant…. Other than that…. we just have to wait until something happens…." Junior sighed, hating how there was no concrete way for them to detect whenever Bagan would attack again.
"Then it is settled. Now Neo, show me to where you all train, for I would like to see what it is like." At this Neo nodded, and took Caesar into the cave, leaving Leo, Junior, the Shobijin, Anguirus, and Kong standing there.
"….. Do you think Bagan will bring my mom back?" Leo was starting to crackle a bit with cosmic energy, his voice dripping with fear. "Because if he does… if he does….."
"He can't Leo…. He can't," Angurius answered, gripping onto one of the Moth's front claws. "She's safe…. It's only if there are remains I think….." Leo started to calm down, the energy disappearing as he breathed gently, before flying back to his cave with Junior and the Shobijin following him. The moth looked back, his mood seeming to improve as the two disappeared from sight, leaving Kong and Anguirus there, the two thinking about what Caesar had just said, and unaware of the crustacean form the sea who had been eavesdropping into their conversation, along with the ruby red Kamacuras on the wall of the cliff.
It wasn't only the Earth Defenders who knew that the dead had been disturbed after all.
Monster Island: Three days after Caesar's Arrival.
With the loud boom and a flash of light, Kong's lightning bolt traveled down his axe and into his body, and the ape entered Thunder Mode, his energy glowing intensely underneath the late afternoon sun. Standing on the roof of his cave allowed Kong to get to the highest point of Monster Island, and summon his lightning bolts much easier. Right now however, he was not fighting anyone, rather he was simply activating Thunder Mode, and staying in it. "I need to get used to this mode, so why don't I just stay in it? This is my fifth time activating it, so let's see what happens." The ape sat down, and started to meditate, hearing the buzzing and the electricity crackling through his fur as he slowed his heartbeat, and closed his eyes, breathing slowly as he could feel his energy draining slowly, meaning he wouldn't have much time. As he thought back to his life on Skull Island, he could feel the energy starting to pulse just a bit, like it was doing something. "Ancestors, Mom, Dad, please help me with this….. I want to be worthy….. I don't want Bagan to hurt anyone ever again…." Kong opened his eyes, and to his shock, Thunder Mode was still active, the energy no longer draining. The ape then raised his axe up to the sky, and let the Mode dissipate, leaving Kong back in his base form, and with a new thought in his head, and an instinct he had never felt before. "Thunder Mode is a part of me, it is who I am, isn't it? And I can control it….. does it really need energy to stay? Or does it need the will of someone who wants to do the right thing in order to stay? And if there is a Thunder Mode, is there a Lightning Mode?" Almost answering his questions, Kong's axe started to glow blue, and a warm light went into him, and the ape almost felt relaxed. Getting up, he leaped down, and walked back into his cave, smelling the scent of roasting meat next to a fire he had made.
And something eating it.
"Who's there? Show yourself." Kong had his axe and chain drawn, watching as a shape walked out of his cave, holding the cooking whale meat between two scythe-like front legs. "Oh…. You're just that Kamacuras." It was indeed the ruby red Kamacuras, and she was staring at Kong as she ate the piece of meat, her yellow compound eyes staring into him. "I remember you…. you can talk, can't you? You said my name." As the Kamacuras ate the last of the meat, she seemed to nod at this, before walking closer to the ape, her wings fluttering a bit.
"…. This one…. talk…. This one listen…to others… This one learn…. speak…." She was indeed talking, albeit with some difficulty, as if her vocal chords were not meant for her to speak. "This one called…. Kiri…. You Kong…. Who friends?" The Kamacuras, or rather Kiri, seemed interested in what was going on between them, and she continued to stare at Kong, expecting him to answer.
"Well Kiri…. We're the Earth Defenders…. Do you know of Bagan?" At this, the mantis hissed in disgust, and started to talk again.
"Evil…. This one know…. This one listen to Caesar…. Meddling with nature… Disgusting…. Took big moth away from you…. hurt little moth….." She looked at him with sympathy, something that surprised the ape. "This one must go now…. Kong introduce to others later when this one ready?" Kiri's request surprised Kong, even more than the fact that she could talk unlike the other Kamacurai.
"Sure…. When you're ready Kiri…." After this, the mantis leaped down from the cliff, and walked away, leaving Kong alone. The ape looked around, before he sat down, and started to drink some of his red berry juice and take a break before meditating again. Elsewhere in Neo's cave, Belvera could hear the loud noises coming from the crystal chamber, and out stepped Caesar, the guardian brushing himself off as Neo followed, and left the cave, a smile on his face.
"Hey Neo, are you okay? What happened in there?" Belvera flew over to him, and sat in his cupped hands, looking up at him.
"I'm fine Bel. I and Caesar were just testing our power against each other, and he was also showing me how he fights. He's something alright, but I don't know how long it's been when he was still active."
"Hm? What do you mean by that?" Belvera's head tilted in confusion, and Neo started to stroke her back, just above her wings.
"He's rusty, very rusty, not at his full power yet. It's why he couldn't do much against Desghidorah, and he knows it. So he'll start training in the chamber, either alone or with one of us."
"Ah. Just like Leo….. I miss her…. Neo….. did I let Battra down?" The moth looked up at him, expecting an answer from the Space Kaiju. "I want to do my best for Leo…. But he doesn't really talk to us like she did."
"Bel, you didn't let him down…. You did your best to honor his final wish…. And Mothra was grateful for you," Neo answered, moving his finger up to stroke her head, "Give him time…. He will talk to you more I think… Okay Bel?"
"I guess…. Hey Neo? I'm glad you're my friend." At this, Neo smiled, and he made sure to left the moth up to his forehead, allowing her to nuzzle him affectionately. "So, what are you going to do now? Is there anyone else who is training today?" As if to answer her question, the sound of scuttling echoed throughout the cave, and then a shape came into view, a very familiar shape to Belvera and Neo.
"Hey you. Yeah you…. I overhead that Caesar guy talking about Bagan disturbing the dead or some shit like that…. Tch…. So, I guess this place really isn't that safe after all…. So much for living here." Ebirah was raised up on his back legs, gesturing with his claws at Neo while he talked. "…. And with what happened to the kid's mom…. I'm asking you to train me….. please…"
"Ebirah…. You want to be trained? Are you sure?" Neo walked over while Belvera flew out of his hands, observing the crustacean now that he had Neo's attention. "If you do really want to be trained…. it will be like nothing you have ever faced before. Are you sure?"
"Look here crystal boy….. I'm absolutely fucking sure, alright?" Ebirah lowered himself down, and Neo looked at him silently, before he walked over to the crystal chamber.
"Follow me into this chamber Ebirah, and we can begin your training." Belvera looked at Neo, who silently nodded at her, letting her know they'd be a while or so. Ebirah walked into the chamber, his sharp legs slipping a bit as he scuttled onto the floor. The door shut behind him and Neo walked in front of the crustacean, activating the starfield. Ebirah's screech of fright made Neo laugh a little bit, and placing his hand on the scared crustacean, he started to talk to him once again. "Now Ebirah….. this is how this chamber functions…."
Outside of the cave, near the waterfall was Anguirus, who was washing himself underneath it, and trying to soothe the pain in his back. Walking out of the waterfall and shaking himself off, the dinosaur sat and looked at the ocean, thinking about what Caesar said. "The dead have been disturbed…. Who is he to think he can play with lives like this?" And once again, the thought of his father came to his mind, making Anguirus wonder about something even more. "I saw Grandpa rip out his throat…. And he fell into the ocean and was washed away…. Where did he end up? Lea…. Grandpa…. Please watch over us…." Anguirus got up and started walking over to where Leo's cave was, wondering what he and Junior were up to, and got his answer when he saw the two seemingly locked into a fight right outside of the entrance of the cave, causing a good amount of the trees to get knocked down, and the Shobijin sitting on one of them to suddenly fly up into the air. "Ah….. I guess I'll watch these two then…."
"Heh…. You're pretty good Junior…." Leo flapped his wings as he psychically communicated with Junior, feeling the energy building up in his chest as he decided to try out the chest beam in his Imago Form. As Junior pushed back against Leo, the moth then fired off the chest beam, and the azure energy hit Junior square in the chest, pushing him back just a bit.
"You're not half bad Leo…. But…." Taking advantage of the moth's surprise at the seemingly weak power of the beam, Junior then tackled him onto the ground, pinning him down. "You're still learning like I am…"
"Alright, alright you win this round Junior," Leo almost laughed as his front leg briefly stroked Junior's massive chest, and he stopped using telepathy. "Are we done for now? Or do you want to train some more?" Junior stayed on top of Leo, his glowing eyes fading as he stopped using his telepathy too, and he looked down at the moth, running his hand through his fluff. The two were panting heavily as they looked at each other, some strange instinct almost taking over as Junior laid on top of Leo, the warm feeling in his chest building up again.
"We're done…. Let's relax now okay? I think we've trained enough for today," Junior panted as he stared down at Leo, the moth now running both of his front legs across Junior's chest, and Junior leaning in closer as he talked to him. "…. Leo, there's something I…. want to tell you….. will you listen?" The adrenaline going through their bodies was starting to die down however, and before the two could go any further, they stopped, and Junior got off of Leo, so the moth could pick himself up.
"Oh Junior… sorry…. I don't know what got into me…." Leo flew up just a little, before landing, and sitting down while his wings flared out just a bit.
"I'm sorry too Leo," Junior sighed as he too sat with Leo, the two watching as the night sky started to come into view. "I think we got a little too into it…. Let's relax now okay?" As the two watched the encroaching dark sky, Anguirus continued to watch, wondering what the two were going to do.
"So, what did you want to tell me Junior?" Leo looked at Junior, the other young kaiju thinking for a minute as he scratched his head.
"… I just wanted to ask…. How are you Leo?" Junior looked at the moth, waiting for his response to his question.
"Oh. I'm doing fine Junior….. It's just that….. I still miss her. I'm glad I have you all though….. It's nice having someone else to talk to." Leo sighed, moving his attention to the Shobijin as he said this. "They probably know a lot about her, but it's awkward talking to them, so that's why we haven't interacted much…. But I hope that can change… Is it okay if I ask you something Junior?"
"Sure."
"When this is all over…. What do you think will happen and what do you think we will do when Bagan falls?" Junior turned his head at Leo, seeing how his bright green eyes almost seemed to glimmer as the dark fell over them, and then breathed out as he thought about what Leo asked him. Leo moved closer to Junior, and his wing draped around his back, causing Junior to flinch just a bit, and then calm down when he felt cosmic energy travel through the wing, giving Junior some of it to feed off of.
"Well, I don't know Leo…. But I can say that I think there will still be threats even after Bagan falls, and that we will have to be prepared for them, no matter what they are. Kaiju, threats from space…. and maybe humans. I want us all, everyone living on this planet, to coexist in the end, whether they are human or kaiju. I hope we can find more of our kind out there somewhere in the world, so that we can survive as a species. Most of all, I want all of us to survive this, so we can live together… I'm not going to lose anyone else ever again Leo… No matter what happens with Bagan, no matter what we face after he is gone… I will fight to the end to protect everyone… my mother, Anguirus, Kong…. Neo, and you Leo…. I couldn't save my father… I couldn't save your mother…. But I can save everyone else… I'll do my best." Junior then moved closer next to Leo, the two keeping themselves warm as the stars came out that night, and looked at them together, both wondering what was out there in space, along with the Shobijin sitting on Junior's knees.
"Junior….. you're so hopeful," Anguirus thought as he watched the two in the comfort of each other. "I'll help you defeat Bagan….. no matter what….. No one else will die under my watch either…. I promise you Grandpa, Lea, I will help him achieve his dream."
And so, Monster Island was peaceful that day.
Author's Note: Hello everyone I have returned, and with a new chapter in the story of Rebirth of the King. While it is only an interlude, it is one that I consider important, as we do see what they have been up to after Mothra's death, along with certain developments that will return once again in the story. Likewise I am sure some of you are surprised at me developing Kamacuras and Ebirah, given that they are not very popular to begin with and both come from three movies that could be considered the low points of this franchise. I consider it to be a good challenge for me to develop these lesser loved Kaiju, and if Final Wars proved anything, it was that Kamacuras could be awesome.
