CHAPTER 10

It was later that night that Ethan was having a panic attack in fear of losing his big sister again. The dream he had this night was far more intense then anything ever had. Dream wise that is.

Kara is with him in the bed trying to calm him down.

"Hey, it's okay. She's not going anywhere and the war doesn't exist here. it's okay, my love." Kara cooed

"I-I-I know that, my mind knows it. But my h-h-heart can't take anymore loss. it's too painful. My mothers, my brothers, Sam, Kat!" Ethan cried out.

If it was possible for a Kryptonian hybrid to die from Broken Heart Syndrome then he wouldn't be here at all. Good thing they have extraordinary abilities under the sun. Kara keeps trying her best to keep her lover calm and quiet but to no avail. The sliding door opened and it revealed to be Samantha standing there in what appears to be black latex suit that covers all but her head.

"Wolf? Brother, it's okay, I'm here." She said to him but he was still highly upset.

"I'm not him, I'm not him, not just another number, not just another weapon!" He muttered loudly.

This seems to make Kara ache at the heart. What's going inside that head of his? She thought to herself that there are still things he doesn't talk about. Sam walked over to them and kneeled next to Kara and looked at Ethan before looking at Kara with a warm smile.

She spoke.

"I remembered before my powers showed, and you being in a kryptonite suit, we had a scouting mission, you and I. Covie camp had five hunters, which to this day made no sense since they usually have one or even two, and loads of Grunts, Jackals, and a lot of ranger and zealot class Elites running around." She told the tale.

Kara was appalled. They put him in a suit filled with kryptonite?! Bastards!

Ethan still held many things from the blonde. Things that he didn't want to share out of fear of losing everything.

"Kawa, where awe ou?" Little Lena cried out via baby monitor.

Kara then heard Lena try to get out her crib only to fall down with a soft thud. she whimpered a little and Kara excused herself to attend to her little one. Ethan smiled at the sound of little Lena's voice and couldn't help but to continue having flashbacks of his own little one.

When she left the room Sam embraced her little brother's head in her arms as a way to comfort him. Ethan hugged her back.

"I'm sorry that I left and I'm sorry you had to endure so much after that. But I didn't have a choice and I still left you behind. Forgive me." Samantha's voice broke.

The tears rolling down her cheeks were fierce and heart breaking. The two Spartans pressed their foreheads together staying silent for there was nothing to be said, nor forgiven.

For a long time they just hugged after their heartfelt exchanged. Ethan perked up at the sound of two heart beats behind him. The spartan turned his head to fine little Lena and Kara standing there. Lena had fallen asleep in the blonde's arms as did Sam. Ruby was still sleeping in the guest room.

Kara smiled at him. That smile is definitely his kryptonite and he welcomes it warmly.

"Ethan, I know this is all new, scary even, to experience and I don't want you to feel as though you've done wrong." Kara stated as she sat down next to him and Sam with Lena still asleep in her arms. "Would you consider going on patrol with me tomorrow? Maybe it'll help with the last adjustments here, see the world from a whole new point of view."

Ethan thought about it. many times after he had saved her life that day and confessed his love to the blonde. Now, he'll do anything to keep her safe, even from himself. He nodded his answer with a small smile.

Kara smiled brightly too. She shifted so that Lena and herself were laying down while Ethan took his big sister back to the guest bedroom where Ruby was still in and slumbering in Dreamland.

The next day

"And this here room is a special room of mine that's... helped me a bit with... everything with being Supergirl." Kara told Ruby as Ethan was donning his armor.

Ruby was fascinated and couldn't wait for her powers to awaken. She wanted to be both Kara and Ethan since yesterday.

Ethan kinda spilled the beans on her secret identity but Kara wasn't complaining. Didn't want to in fact. They went inside the room and instantly a hologram of Kara's biological mother, Alura, appeared in the center.

Ethan felt like this was a private moment for Kara and his niece. A binding moment so to say.

Ding

A text pulled up in his HUD from his big sister.

Fox- ' Hey, just wanted to check in with you three.'

Wolf- 'Yes, Kara and Ruby are doing a little bonding before heading out.'

Fox- 'Okay, just making sure you're not hunter bait.'

The spartan 2 chuckled at the response Sam. After all these years she still takes care of him. More so now since she's a daughter. Which he still wonders how it's possible... it shouldn't.

"Alright, I'm set for patrol and Ruby is going to be with Alex for the time being. You ready for this?" Kara says as she took Ruby to Alex and Alex smiled at the girl and left.

"Yes, I'll be on foot on the rooftops." The spartan 2 said.

Kara had the Danvers Grant smile shining through. This is going to be fun.

"If only I had my Pelican. I'll gladly fly with you. Where are you patrollinga at?" He asked as they make their way to the balcony.

AN HOUR LATER

"Now this is a rarity. Hardly anything going on out here." Supergirl said through the comms.

On the other end, Wolf is patrolling the waterfront from a nearby rooftop. Admiring the view of the water. Clean, pretty, and no sunken ships with fire and smoke.

"It's beautiful. This planet. Unlike the final days of Reach."

A voice from behind him started to speak. Unexpected but a welcomed one.

"I wonder what would have been if I stayed and you left in my place. Would our lives be what they are right now?"

Ethan turned around to find a woman in a very familiar armor and said woman is Sam.

"We shouldn't mourn the past, sister. It won't change anything... or bring back anyone." The redhead whispered that last one but unfortunately his older sister heard and she chose not say anything.

Sam can hear the heartbrokenness in his voice. How many people did he had to see die for him to still live with what's on his shoulders? To be a father to a little girl only to have her taken away by the cruelty of war. Sam has seen her little brother at his best and his worst and now... he seems lost.

"I thought you were suppose to be at work? Lena is going to blow a bit of a gasket if you're not there." Ethan noticed and stated.

Sam chuckled at this. He doesn't know. That is great.

"Kara is there with her having brunch. They wanted to be alone so I gave them space." The brunette answered.

They talked about the old days for a bit before Sam went back to her job with Lena. Kara arrived beside the armored Kryptonian hybrid, smiling widely.

"What got you do happy?"

"Slow down, baby. you're gonna choke." Kara told Lena.

Little Lena came out as soon as Sam left the building to find Ethan. Kara couldn't help but actually see Lena as her daughter and best friend.

Chronologically, Kara is technically older than Lena. The poor baby suffered so much from the abuse of Lillian. That woman doesn't deserve to be a mother.

"Nuh uh, it's...mmm... so goo'!" Lena said as she scarfed her favorite meal. Potstickers and rice.

"I'm glad you love your meal but what do you think of Ethan, baby?" Kara asked.

Lena stopped eating for a moment and thought about it. Ethan was nice, patient, and very protective of everyone in her family, not including lex or Lillian. He's like a daddy in her mind.

"He nice, he make 'ou happy." Little Lena said to Kara.

The blonde smiled at her response. Lena has always been observant of her surroundings even when she became little.

"Well, I'm glad, my little raccoon. Now, eat up and when I pick you up from big girl work, I'll let you stay up all extra 30 minutes for cartoons. How does that sound? "

Lena gave Kara her famous little hugs. After Lunch Kara found Ethan and Sam talking. She never saw Sam with armor before and it's was interesting that she kept it from what Ethan told her.

Sam left to go back to work and the couple resumed their patrol for another two hours. They went back to the HQ and decided to relax in the room made for Ethan. It was more like a workshop of armor parts and weapons. A big open room down below the building. J'onn let the redhead repair the Pelican he crashed with while Kara just walked around. Occasionally asking questions about the jet plane.

The blonde found to what appeared to be the original armor and helmet. Lightly giggling to herself Kara put the helmet on and finding out her head is slightly small. She also noticed that she can't see a damn thing until she tapped the side of the helmet and was able to see out of it.

"Is there some kind of camera built into this thing? Alex would love to have one of these and Winn would love to tinker with them." She thought to herself.

Later that day Kara picked up Lena and the two went home while Sam and Ruby went with Ethan so that the siblings can catch up some more after many years.

They found themselves in the woods where nothing can listen in on them. Both Spartans wearing civie clothes.

"You okay?" The older of the two asked him.

At first he didn't say anything but after a moment he smiled at her. She smiled back knowing what he was thinking.

"If you set up some kind of prank in my apartment I'll have your hide." She told him.

He only chuckled and hugged her from the side the all three just cuddled for a short time. It was peaceful. He's glad that Sam was alive and with him and his new family. It helps fill the hole some but he knew deep down that not having Kat left a permanent hole in his heart.

After a short while the three went home. When Ethan got back to Kara's he was greeted with special hug from a certain little girl. Lena may not replace Kat but she was just as special.

Kara floated towards him and kissed him. She told him that Alex's powers finally came in since she and Astra bonded as mates. Meaning that she can live as long as they do. Ethan was glad for Alex.

Alex always talked about how important it is to be with the ones she loves. The baby was due in 7 months and they're thinking about building a house big enough in one of the plots of land.

As promised Kara let little Lena stay up an extra 30 minutes for cartoons. She was wearing a blue and white polka dotted onesie while she, Kara and Ethan cuddled together until she fell asleep. Kara made sure she didn't have an accident before she put her in her crib for tonight.

Once Lena was tucked in w with a binkie and bear Kara came back out to find Ethan washing the dishes from dinner. She proceeds to strip herself of clothing and slowly wrap her arms around the muscled man in front of her. He can't help but noticed the act and the skin contact, so he stopped doing the dishes to attend to another task.
