Chapter 11 - A Business Deal With The Devil
"This is Olivia, how can I help you?"
"Hey baby."
"How can I help you?"
"While I'm excited to see you at our meeting tomorrow, I noticed that you hadn't submitted any paperwork for any additional funding and I just thought I'd help you out. You'll have to be nice about it though." She glanced at her team members before replying
"Okay. What's the proposal?"
"Well, I distinctly remember offering you a deal and you have continued to remain stubborn baby, so I have decided to make good on my last promise. I'll get my dad to inflate the sponsorship amount to what we need, if you agree to come and play with me and a couple other friends every now and again. What do you say Baby?" The nickname made her skin crawl and she wanted so badly to slam her phone on the ground and tell him to go to hell but when she looked around the locker room, she realised that he might very well be the only way for her to keep the team around.
"I'll meet you now if you're free to discuss the details?"
"Sounds good to me, I'll see you in my office in the next 10 minutes."
Olivia hung up the phone before looking at each of the members.
"Hold that thought, I'll be back." She turned on her heel and sprinted from the room, leaving the team looking quite confused.
"I didn't think Olivia and Commander Lalfon were friends?" Miris looked up at Ainsley.
"They're not friends from what I've seen. Why's that pumpkin?"
"It was him who just rang. He said that he would help Livy with the funding if she went to visit him and some of their other friends more often so I thought that maybe they missed her a lot." The doctor scoffed before turning to her.
"Are you sure that's what he said?"
"Yeah. I heard it all."
"Why are you so interested." Ainsley turned to the doctor.
"Because they definitely are not friends. She used to hate him so much, I really thought she'd just have Lennox kill him. I think she nearly did a couple times but that was before the force, so maybe they patched up or something. I highly doubt it though. I'm sure she's paying for whatever money she gets from him."
Olivia had made it to Nathan's office in time and after listening to him degrade her and insult her for half an hour, she agreed to his terms. The funding in exchange for a monthly "meeting" with three of the Thunder boys. Nathan, Zak and Noah. She could cope with that. She just had to remind herself that she was doing this for the benefit of Ainsley and the rest of the B Force. Where would they go if they were let go? Every single one of them had their own circumstances for being there and she was sure most of them didn't have anywhere they could go back to, especially after being fired. Miris especially, having been born here, her home literally was B – Force. She had been born to a couple from the previous team, but they had both died in combat, and the Army had come forward for her, leaving her in the hands of B – Force. Olivia made it back to the base in time for dinner and no one brought up the issue, afraid of bad news. She didn't talk much and she disappeared for a while to draw up some paperwork but she did have a few quiet drinks with everyone before stumbling to her room and passing out.
The next morning, Olivia woke up early and snuck into the showers, using the hot water to ease her headache before getting ready for her meeting. When she walked out, Ainsley, Christian and Lady were sitting at the table.
"You need to be at the meeting later today please, all of you, considering it involves you." She smiled over at them as she made her way into the kitchen.
"We will see." Lady huffed at her, and Olivia let out a short laugh as she stirred her tea. The four sat in a comfortable silence as Olivia shuffled through her notes for the meeting, double checking them. As she downed the last of the tea, Christian softly grabbed her arm.
"You wouldn't make us go to a meeting to be fired, would you?" He asked the question as if he already knew the answer and Olivia smiled sadly at him.
"No. I wouldn't." He dropped his arm as understanding overcame him. Olivia turned to face Ainsley, she looked him up and down grabbing his biceps and pulling him down to her level.
"Darling, not in front of the children." He joked with her.
"Shut up." She pulled on his arm as she lent up to press her lips softly against his, Ainsley's eyes widening slightly at the sudden gesture. He squeezed his arms around her before moving one hand to her hair, deepening the kiss. Christian groaned at the sight and Lady whistled. Olivia pulled away before straightening up her clothes.
"Damn, do I get a goodbye like that?" Lady laughed at the pair. Olivia sent her a smirk before looking down to her watch.
"I have to get going to the budget meeting, but I'll see you all later at the meeting." She sent a pointed look in Christian's direction. He rolled his eyes but nodded slightly anyway. Olivia smiled at him before walking to her meeting. She saw Nathan heading out of his base and cursed herself for her bad luck when he strode over to her, slowing his pace to match hers as they walked.
"Ready babe?"
"As I'll ever be, Commander."
"I've decided to tighten up my rules a little." He smirked down at her when she paused her steps.
"You can't do that, Nathan. I've already agreed to the terms we set!"
"Yes well, it's my money, Darling." The way he said it made her skin crawl and she felt sick in her chest.
"Don't go back to B – Force. I don't want any potential distractions to affect our time together and you have been there an awful lot lately."
"It's my unit, Nathan! Where else would I be? I'm not giving up missions."
"You haven't been out in the last three and a half weeks, so it doesn't matter. Stay in your management unit and quit B-Force or I retract the extra funds. Your choice, babe." Olivia dropped her head but didn't reply. After a few moments, she nodded her head. At least she would be able to see them through work and she wasn't going to quit. She would just take leave. He wouldn't know any better. Besides, she just had to hold out until her last resort arrived back at the compound.
"Good. Let's go or we will be late." He pulled her along by her arm until they reached the last hallway and his hand dropped from her.
The meeting went smoothly, and Olivia presented her proposal and drafted budget before the council. Everyone was happy and everyone stayed. Olivia sent out the summons to each team for the Force meeting in half an hour before returning to her room to get changed. She shimmied out of her formal uniform and slipped on her B Force overalls and T – shirt. Olivia made her way back to the common area and was happy to see that B Force had finally listened to something she had said. Miris ran to Olivia, her navy dress swaying as she did, Olivia noticed the large Insignia on the front of her dress was in pale pink, much like her own, however, it was the only pink on the uniform apart from her socks so maybe the idea was to make it that big to fit it on? Who knows. Olivia caught the young girl as she leapt into her arms and laughed as she spun her around. She was listening to her story about getting ready and dressed up when a hard hand on her shoulder reminded her of the compromise she had made. The hand gripped harder when Olivia hesitated, and she saw Christian start towards them from the corner of her eye. Not wanting to let Miris see anything was wrong, Olivia whipped around and put her hands on Nathan's chest, pushing him lightly in the opposite direction before glancing over to Christian with a light nod.
"I have to go, sweetie, but I'll be back after the meeting, okay?" She smiled down at Miris as Nathan gripped her fingers. Miris looked between them and nodded, heading back to Christian. Olivia and Nathan stepped up onto the small stage at the front of the room.
"Thank you for coming everyone. I know it was short notice, however, Commander Nathan Lalfon and myself would like to take this opportunity to address some rumours about budget cuts and the truth is, that was a very real possibility until now, as Commander Lalfon's family has generously agreed to inflate their sponsorship amount. This means that not only will there be enough funds for everyone's current activities, but we will also be able to start repairs on the compound." Olivia gave a light smile as everyone cheered.
"On top of this, as a show of good faith from the council, everyone's day leave applications will be approved for this week only. So be sure to get out and get what you need and have some fun." Nathan added generously on the end.
The short meeting came to an end after several other smaller announcements and Olivia turned to Nathan.
"At least let me go and say goodbye."
"Fine. You until tomorrow morning. And behave yourself, Olivia." He warned her quietly so no one else would hear.
Olivia headed over to the group as they were leaving and picked up Miris, giving Christian a reassuring squeeze on his elbow. He flinched at the gesture but the ghost of a smile danced on his lips. When they reach the lounge room, Olivia has everyone sit down.
"I just wanted to say thank you for putting up with me these last few weeks. I know it wasn't easy for any of you to adjust and I'm really grateful that we were able to get there in the end. I've had a really great time with you all." Olivia smiled at them but only Miris smiled back.
"Olivia. Why does it sound like you're about to tell us that we will never see you again?" Elnath looked down over her.
"I'll be around, and you'll see me but I'm taking some leave from the unit. I have to catch up from some other work." She rubbed her wrist nervously. If they knew her as well as she had come to know them, they wouldn't believe that at all. Some hums and nods came but she could tell they weren't fully convinced. She excused herself and made her way down the hall, her vision blurred with tears. She stopped in a small corridor and dropped to the ground, giving herself a moment to grieve her loss. Tears dropped from her cheeks and into her hands as she cried silently. She would really miss being here, and she genuinely would miss each of them. Slender fingers grab her wrist and pulled her up, further than she could reach and she let out a small cry when a large hand grabbed her thigh just above her knee, pulling her leg around his waist. He walks her out of the small passage and into another, opening the door to his bedroom before he dropped her legs to the ground, making sure to hold her waist so she didn't fully fall. He pushes the door closed behind her and backs her into it.
"What did you really agree to?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Yes you do, ástin. If you got this funding no shady strings attached, then you wouldn't be sitting in the hallway crying."
" I am happy about the funding. I'm just feeling stressed, ok? I have to go, I have work to do."
"Don't lie, Ógæfa." Ainsley drags Olivia over to the bed and throws her on.
"I will get my answer, Olivia."
Ainsley leans over her, pinning her small body beneath his before pressing his lips against hers. He pinched her side lightly and when she gasped, his slipped in tongue over hers, deepening the kiss. He only pulled away after they ran out of breath and he started to pepper light kisses along her jaw and down her neck. When she let out a soft moan, he knew he had found the sensitive area in the junction of her neck and shoulder. He used the opportunity to slip a hand up her side and feel her soft skin beneath his fingers.
"W-Wait!" Ainsley kept going, slowly creeping her shirt up.
"I'll tell you one day, I promise! Just - just not today."
"Okay." Ainsley pulled away and sat up on his knees, still straddling her small frame.
"Fuck it. I want you." He leant back down and his hot breath tickled her ears. "And I have a feeling that you do too."
Olivia didn't know what to do. She did want him but she had been expressly warned about behaving. Ainsley pulled back to look in her eyes, unclipping the straps of her overall shorts before shuffling down her legs, sliding the shorts down with him. They were hurried as he pulled her up and slipped her shirt over her head, leaving her in just her bra and panties. They had been holding back for too long and both seemed to understand that this was going to be fast paced and laced with need. His eyes dragged up her body, taking in her smooth, milky skin, the plump mounds of her breasts and the way her hips were wiggling slightly under his weight. His cock twitched in his pants, the growing tightness becoming more noticeable. He pulled his shirt off before pushing her back down onto the bed and moving them around so that he was settled in between her thighs. He leant down to kiss her again, his fingers slowly ghosting over her panties. Her arms came up to rest on his shoulders and she moaned into the kiss at his touch, her fingers lightly digging into his back. She pulled her arms back and undid the button on his pants, using her thighs to pull them down, he kicked them off the rest of the way once they got to his knees. He trailed quick kisses down her body, stopping to relieve her of her bra and flick his tongue over her nipples. He continued trailing kisses down her body, finally stopping just above her panties. Hooking his fingers into the sides, he slid them down her legs before discarding them somewhere off the bed and then he hooked her knees over his shoulders, his hands holding her hips down. Olivia wanted to protest but the only thing that left her mouth was the loud moan of his name when his tongue swiped up her wet lips, brushing the small bundle of nerves on the way. He grinned up at her before doing the same again groaning out her name.
"You're so sweet, Svάss."
His tongue parted her wet lips and he sucked and nipped at her clit, making her moan and gasp. His cock throbbed when she moaned out his name loudly as she came, her fingers curling in the blankets and legs shaking on his shoulders. Her legs fell from his shoulders as he moved off the bed, sliding his boxers off and climbing back between her thighs. She pulled him down to her and squeezed her arms around his neck.
"Ertu viss?"
"Still don't understand what that means." She giggled at him. It obviously just slipped out sometimes.
"Are you sure?" She nodded her head at him. He smirked back at her.
Ainsley rubbed the tip of his cock slowly along her soaked lips until the was a whining mess beneath him. She wriggled her hips and pushed against him in an attempt to get some sort of friction between them to no avail, she whined out his name.
"What do you want darling?" She bucked her hips in response and he nearly gave in.
"Gotta use your words, Svάss." He smirked down at her.
"I want you to fill me up. Please, Commander?" She looked up at him with a pleading expression and any intentions Ainsley had to tease her some more left his mind as soon as he registered what she had called him. She had hit the bullseye on his kink and he would give her whatever she wanted, as long as she played the right cards and he knew it.
He pushed his cock through her folds and slowly pushed into her until he couldn't anymore. She moaned, her fingernails dragging up the skin on his back as she moved to grip his shoulders. He waited a few moments for her to adjust to him before he slowly started making shallow movements.
"Amantis" Olivia whined out the name and Ainsley paused.
"I don't know what that means, daring."
"Sucks, doesn't it?" She laughed but she was cut off into a moan by Ainsley slamming into her.
"Don't tempt me darling."
"It means Lover." Olivia laughed at his stunned face. "It just came out."
"I swear, Mischief. The things you do to me." He slid his cock back out of her and slammed it in. His thrusts were hard, but rhythmic. His free had made its way to her clit, rubbing as she moaned out for him.
"Oh Ainsley, just like that," she hummed as he bit down on her shoulder softly, kissing and nipping at the mark. He let out small grunts and curses here and there and she had never heard such an arousing sound. Her climax crept up slowly this time as Ainsley continued to slam into her.
"Olivia… you feel so good wrapped around me." His breathing became more erratic as his own climax hovered.
"Come for me," he growled. She obeyed, unable to hold back any longer. Her walls throbbed around his cock as her wetness dripped onto him.
"Ainsley!" she cried. She gripped his shoulders tighter and rode out the waves of her climax. Ainsley quickly followed as he hissed and groaned several of her pet names. Once he was emptied into her, he relaxed, rolling onto the bed beside her, pulling out a small towel from beside his bed and pulling her back against his chest, laying the towel underneath her hip. She scoffed at him as he used the corner to gently clean his cum from her legs.
"You're unbelievable. As if you just have a towel in your draw."
"Hey! I get lonely too." He chuckled at her.
Olivia laid in the bed, her back against Ainsley's toned stomach. She felt happy, really happy but the memory of her agreement sprung to her mind. She pulled her legs into her stomach as a feeling of dread weaved through her.
"Ainsley… I can't be with you."
"I know."
She turned to face him, shock etched into her features as she searched his face for an explanation
"I don't know what you did, or what you're going to do but I know you can't stay here and knowing who the funding came from, I know you won't be back. Not for anything that's not work-related anyway."
He peered down at her while he trailed small lines along her arm with his fingers.
"Then why did you do this?!" Tears threated to spill from her eyes, it was all getting to be too much.
"I just wanted to have you to myself one time. Just once wanted to hold you like this and breathe in your scent and just be with you. I wanted carve myself into your body and your heart and I wanted to burn myself into your memory." He said it without any hesitation or any hint of remorse. He wasn't sorry and he didn't need to be. Olivia put her hand against his broad chest as she swung her leg over his him, simultaneously pushing him down and straddling him. She ground herself against his cock and he smirked up at her.
"I want more of you." She lifted her hips and lower onto his erection.
"Sweetheart, you should know by now, I'm always in charge." He flipped them over so he laid between her thighs, his commanding tone sent tingles down her spine and she wriggled beneath him. This time was slower, more savoured and less needy. They took their time exploring each other's bodies. Olivia ran her hands from his shoulders and down his arms and torso, sliding her fingers over every scar, moaning as he thrust into her wet heat. His lips trailed over her skin as he kissed and nipped along her body, marking her as his own. They both climaxed together and collapsed onto each other. They laid together for a while, collecting the energy to sneak into the bathroom for a shower before cuddling up in Ainsley's bed, drifting off.
When Olivia opened her eyes, the sun was streaming in through the window and she couldn't help but smile to herself. Ainsley's scent surrounded her, clinging to her skin. She sat up, looking at the birds on the fence, it was a nice day today.
'It will be a good day to work.' She thought to herself before a looming shadow swallowed her mind. She was supposed to be back at work by now! Nathan had no doubt already come looking for her and she shuddered at the thought before throwing on the closest shirt and her underwear and running out to the kitchen to grab her medicine before she headed out.
Ainsley, Elnath, Lady and Christian were lounged around the common area when Olivia came running in, scantily clad and panicking. Christian doubted whether she even knew they were there or whether she had just Ainsley shirt on. When she reached up to try and grab a cup and her panties started to show, Ainsley let out a low growl and moved behind her, blocking the view from the others and grabbing her cup for her.
"Darling, you need to put clothes on in the common room." She whipped around to face him, practically on the verge of tears.
"Why did you tun your alarm off?!"
"I didn't. It's my day off today. Are you ok, Svάss?"
"No! I'm not! I had to be at work early this morning and now I'm late!" She wasn't yelling but Ainsley could tell she was frustrated at herself and a little scared.
"Nathan's waiting for you, isn't he?" Christian stormed over to her, pushing Ainsley out of the way. Olivia averted her eyes from him but nodded lightly.
"How'd you know?"
"The stunt he pulled before the meeting was the biggest give away." He sighed at her before putting an awkward arm around her shoulders, pulling her into his side.
"If you are in serious trouble, you know to come back here, right? We've never been afraid of getting into a fight and I'm sure our fearless leader will kill him quietly." Christian grinned down at her as he nodded towards an increasingly irritated Ainsley.
"You're a member of this team and we protect our own." She nodded at him before smiling up at him.
"Did you just admit to liking having me around?" The grin dropped from Chistian's face and he squeezed the arm around her shoulders and she laughed, pulling her into a hold.
"Never. Get lost. Piss off. I don't care." A small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. He let her go and she ran to Ainsley.
"You two are something else." Elnath shook his head at the two adult children. Olivia downed her meds and ran out of the room after giving everyone a quick, emotional good bye. When she reached her office, Nathan was already inside.
"Where the hell have you been?! I specifically let you go back there with very specific instructions, and you went out of your way to ignore me?!" A smack sounded out in the small room as the back of his hand connected with her cheek. Ainsley's large shirt fell to the side, the marks on her thighs and shoulder jumping out against her pale skin suddenly became alarmingly noticeable and Nathan sneered in disgust as he dropped to straddle her waist.
"You cheap whore! I told. You. To. Behave." He struck her repeatedly on the last three words and she had brought her arms up to defend herself. He spat at her as he stood up.
"One more chance, Olivia. That's it. Or I pull the funding." He glared down at her one last time before moving towards the door.
"I left our schedule on your desk, make sure that shit is off your skin before the first meeting." She let out a small whine in response and he slammed the door shut in response.
'I can do this. For Ainsley. For Miris. For Christian. For B-Force.' She repeated the words in her brain like a mantra over the next week before the first meeting. She saw the team occasionally, but she could never stay long. She was lonely without the noise but that was the sacrifice she had made.
The first time she met with the boys from Thunder, she had held her head up high as she walked through the doors for their "meeting," however, she left broken and ashamed. She was not prepared for what was going to happen when she entered the room and she had not realised until that moment that they had not discussed boundaries. She had expected that she would suffer through a day of meeting each boy as they became available, not having all three greedily trying to establish their dominance over the other two by using her. She felt dirty and nauseas and couldn't help thinking back to her fling with Ainsley, this however only made her feel more nauseas. The bruises were already forming on her arms as she pulled her ruined clothes back on the best she could. Her legs were back and purple and her back was stinging from the hard slaps she had endured. By the third time, the Nausea had disappeared as did any expectations of gentleness or holding back. She always left broken, bruised and bleeding but that didn't worry her. Not as much as the shame and the dirty feeling she felt in the pit of her stomach as she lay on the floor in the mess that they made. She was only able to see B Force at team meetings and once a month to pass on the missions for that month. But she hadn't been able to see Ainsley at all. She was becoming depressed, and she knew it but she didn't regret her decision. She was able to see B Force and the team was actually doing well with the new management! But being used and abused and then stumbling home to pass out for the next 24 hours was taking its toll. She had gone back to the Delta Force team's doctor for treatment so that no one would be able to see her. The fourth time however, she fucked up. Big time. She'd taken a pretty hard blow to the head after being thrown to the ground. She had thrown on a jumper and her underwear rather than fiddle with the clothes and started on her stumble back to her room. Her moments with Ainsley flashed back through her head as she walked, her vision starting to blur. It was always late at night when she left so she never saw anyone. However, she heard a voice from in front of her. She snapped her head up but she couldn't make out the noises that were coming from the figures mouth. She couldn't help but think about Ainsley's voice and his fingers trailing lines on her arm.
"Ain..s...ly? N..o... Don..t loook" She couldn't help as her body felt heavy and she couldn't hold her eyes open anymore. She collapsed to the ground and her world went black.
The doors to the common area flew open and Elnath came rushing through in a frenzy.
"Bull? I thought you were going to buy more drinks for the game night!" Laughed Lady. He turned to her with a scared look in his eyes.
"I.. I found her outside like this..." Everyone stopped laughing and playing to look up at his huge frame. The big Minotaur mix breed looked flustered and seem to be rushing his every move. Tucked away in his huge forearms was a small broken body, wrapped in his oversized jacket. Blood dripped onto the floor beneath them. He bent down to the floor and reached his arms out; the small body came spilling out from next to his chest and on to the floor. When her head rolled around the face them, and her black and purple arm fell out of the jacket, the atmosphere in the room changed dramatically to what it had been, and the members of B force sobered up very quickly. Miris came running from the hallway, looking horrified. When she saw the body sprawled out on the floor, tears slipped from her eyes.
"Why does she smell like that Ain..? Salty and metallic and rotting?" She looked like she was going to vomit. A sudden pressure enveloped the room and everyone turned to look at Ainsley.
"Where exactly did you find her Elnath?" He was fuming. She looked almost lifeless if not for the small puffs of breath she let out.
"Just inside the corridor, off from the main area."
"Call the doctor." Was all he said before he left out the door. Christian left behind him, with the excuse that he didn't want Ainsley to get into any trouble. Ainsley followed her drops of blood to the last place he expected to be standing, surely these people knew better. He looked around the Thunder Team's corridor, Guest Suite in big letters on the door from where the blood trail ended. He heard a gasp and looked up to see a young maid, mop in hand.
'She's here to clean' Rage flowed through Ainsley's bones as the stench from the room flooded out to the hallway. "Who was in here?" He asked the woman.
"I..I don't know.. All I know is that I'm here to clean up and I'm not supposed to say anything... Sir, I don't think your allowed to be here.." A door to the right flew open and none other than Captain Nathan sauntered out of the room in just a towel.
"What the fuck are you doing creeping around in here?"
"Who was in this room?"
"Oh that. None of your business. Oh, Actually, it might be." He laughed as he ushered the maid away. "Don't make such a sour face Ainsley, I'll let you join next time, okay"
"You were in there."
"A few of us actually." He smirked. Ainsley threw the first punch, rage taking over his mind and blinding his vision. His inability to focus plus the added inebriation cost him though as he took a hit to the throat. He collapsed, coughing, on the ground, struggling for breath. Christian ran up behind him and pulled him back.
"Sorry, Commander. We've had a few drinks and the smell was just getting to some of our members." Christian apologised before helping Ainsley up from the ground. Nathan looked him up and down before smirking.
"Tell your monsters to keep their snouts to themselves then. Oh, and when she wakes up, be sure to send her back to her base doctor. I need her fixed before this time next month." He dismissed them with a wave of his hand. Christian stopped in his track. Ainsley looked up to him to see the shocked and horrified look on his face.
"What..?" He whispered. Ainsley stood.
"How did you know I had her and why would you need her back after you did that to her." Ainsley fumed.
"The blood on your second gave it away. I'm getting tired if this back and forth, fuck off so I can go to bed." He jeered.
"What is next month?!" Yelled Ainsley.
"Shut up. You'll wake my squad mates." He sighed. "Don't you know? Obviously, she'll come back next month because of our agreement." He smirked, "The funding that allowed you to stay here didn't come out of thin fucking air. I agreed to put the money in if she agreed to come... help us relieve some stress once a month. Isn't that right, boys?" He peered back into his room and suddenly the laughs of 2 other men flowed out from inside. The images from there time together flashed through Ainsley's mind and the pit in his stomach began to grow, consuming him. Christian gagged, breaking Ainsley from his rage induced trance.
"Sorry, like I said we've had quite a few to drink tonight and I'm finding it hard to keep them down." laughed Christian. "We had better get going!"
"Of course a B flunky wouldn't be able to handle his booze." Nathan turned and shut his door again. Christian managed to drag Ainsley back to the common room before he vomited against the wall.
"Ainsley.. It's been 4 months since the funding issue was solved.. 4... and the smell..."
"...Let's go back." It was Ainsley's turn to support Christian this time. When they re-entered the base common room, it was empty. Elnath came from a side corridor and told them she had been taken to the medi room. When Ainsley got there, the doctor scolded him for not being here.
"When will she wake?"
"She might not, Ainsley. She's not in good shape and she's taken too many beatings like this already." He sighed. Ainsley looked over her but didn't say anything, he knew what he was talking about and he knew why. He suspected the other 2 might have caught on now too. They would have to make up an excuse for Miris though. She was too young to understand. But the thought of the young girl lit a lightbulb in his brain.
"She likes it when you are next to her. Her heart was beating better when you were brushing her cheek earlier."
"Move her to my room."
"What..?"
"Move her and all the stuff she will need to my room. She will be more comfortable there and I will be able to watch her." The doctor sighed
"As you wish, Commander."
"Olivia."
"I know what you're going to say. I don't want to hear it, Vondur."
"Oh really?"
"Why didn't you let me kill him. We coulda killed him. Noone's going to know. We will make everyone forget he exists." She mimicked his low, gravelly voice as she waved her hands around above her.
"I was actually going to say, 'Can you please stop coming into my throne room and laying on the ground.' It gives off the wrong impression to other visitors."
"You don't get other visitors here."
"I have one now. You might be interested in him, he's a commander in the army."
"You didn't." She gaped at him.
"I didn't. I meant Heaven's Army. This temple is my domain in the spirit world, you know. Demons and Angels and creatures like us are hyper-aware of our souls, so we can travel to and from soul domains, even taking others or certain objects with us. This is Cassiel. The Angel of Temperance." Olivia quickly scrambled to her feet as the man gave her a slight bow of his head.
"I am so sorry." The man – Angel – simply stared at her, briefly glancing at the demon staring down at her with a disapproving frown.
"Cassiel, are we about done here?" Vondur turned his gaze back to the angel.
"Yes. I only wanted a report." He was still looking at Olivia in a way that unnerved her.
"Cassiel." Vondur appeared in front of Olivia, blocking the angel's gaze. "What do you think you are doing?" Vondur's long fingers slipped around Olivia's wrist, holding her behind him.
"My job."
