A/N: Hey everyone! I've decided to try writing this story again, I was too sad after the show ended to continue for a while but as long as people are still willing to read, I'll keep writing! Please leave a review if you want more:)

Kami tapped her fingers against the steering wheel of her car as she kept her gaze on the church in front of her, which she had watched Lucifer enter ten minutes earlier. Lucifer knew the man that had been following her, that had been there at her car crash and now when she was almost shot by Kimo. And from the fact that Lucifer was skulking off to an abandoned church in the dead of night, it was clear her suspicions were right. He was in trouble-

"Maze?" Kami mumbled to herself, when she spotted her girlfriend storming towards the church, going around the back.

Before she knew what she was doing, Kami was jumping out of her car, a scowl on her face. Not only was Lucifer hiding something from her, but now Maze was in on it too? Just as Kami was making her way through the church courtyard, a loud crashing sound her head snapping up, to find a stone pillar being flung through the church window, dropping to the ground right in front of her. Kami jumped back in shock, looking back up to the shattered window, speechless. There was no way a human being could have thrown the pillar; it must have weighed more than twenty tons. Kami was instantly racing forward, finding the side door to the church was unlocked, and left ajar. She could hear more crashing sounds from inside, quickly followed by grunts of pain. Were they attacking each other? As her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting in the church, she found the mystery man looming over a broken pew, clad in the same trench coat he always seemed to wear. His eyes snapped up the moment she stepped into the church, his forehead wrinkling.

"Well...this is a surprise" He murmured, appearing taken aback.

Just as Kami opened her mouth to reply, her gaze fell on Lucifer by the man's feet, his face bruised and bloody. Her jaw clenched, she took a step forward, feeling her blood boil. She wasn't sure how, but she was going to make Lucifer's attacker pay.

"I've called the cops. They'll be here any second" Kami lied, causing the man to burst out laughing.

"Is that supposed to scare me?" He mocked.

"Get on your knees. Hands behind your head" Kami told him, which only made the man laugh harder.

"...Or what?" He goaded, as Kami took another step forward.

"You hurt my friend. I don't think you want me to answer that question" Kami spat out, watching the man tilt his head.

"Oh, brother...you really haven't told her, have you?" The man realised, as Kami's eyes darted between the two.

"Brother?!" She exclaimed, as Lucifer rolled onto his side, spitting out the blood that was coating his lips.

"Kami, Uriel. Uriel, Kami. I'm sure you can see where the good looks went in the family" Lucifer muttered, as Uriel reached down to grab the collar of his shirt.

"Enough of your quips, Lucifer. I have business to attend to" Uriel stated, before punching Lucifer in the face, knocking him out cold.

"Get your hands off him!" Kami yelled, rushing forward and grabbing the man's arm, shoving him away from her friend.

"You dare to touch me, girl?" Uriel huffed, before grabbing her wrist tight enough to leave a bruise.

"How about I do this instead?" Kami retorted, before lunging forward to kick him in the crotch, causing him to lose his grip on her, as he let out a howl of pain.

Before he had time to react, Kami sent a hard punch to the man's face, as he stumbled backwards from the force, lifting his hand to touch his now bleeding lip. His eyes went wide, fear flashing over his face for a split second. Kami went to hit him again, but he blocked her movement with his arm, before grabbing her hair and sending her flying towards Lucifer's unconscious body. He marched over to her, hand reaching out to grab her when she sent her foot flying back, kicking him in the knee, allowing her to roll to the side, out of his reach.

"How...how are you doing this?" Uriel frowned, raising his fists in the air.

"Doing what?" Kami questioned, as she pushed herself to her feet.

"Why can't I predict you?" Uriel asked, eyes narrowing.

"My sister's been asking herself the same question for years" Kami muttered, before lunging forward, punching him in the stomach, leaving her attacker winded.

A second later, Uriel was headbutting her, gaining the upper hand as he kicked out towards her, sending her stumbling backwards a few paces. Reaching behind her, Kami picked up one of the candles that were dotted around the church, readying herself for his next move. He stormed towards her, reaching out to grab her hair, a smirk playing on his lips.

"It seems that everyone shows their pattern eventually" Uriel stated, as she quirked an eyebrow.

"Guess again, mate" She muttered, shoving the candle into his face.

Uriel screeched in pain as the candle burnt his cheek, quickly shoving her away from him, but the damage was already done. He howled, clutching at his stinging cheek and leaving himself open for attack. Kami sent a hard punch to his injured cheek, before spinning around to kick him in the back of leg, as he stumbled forward. However, he didn't fall as she had expected him to. She had put all her strength into the kick, but Uriel was still able to quickly steady himself. Not knowing what else she could do, Kami suddenly lunged at him, pushing them both to the floor, as Uriel took the brunt of the impact. Before he could push her off him, she grabbed his hair, and slammed his head into the wooden floorboards below, knocking him out. Without a second thought, Kami then crawled over to Lucifer, gripping onto his shoulder and shaking him.

"Lucifer? Lucifer!" She exclaimed, as his eyes fluttered open.

"What...what happened? Are you alright?" Lucifer questioned, as she helped pull him into a sitting position.

"I'm fine. What about you? And why the fuck is your brother trying to kill us?" Kami insisted, as Lucifer let out a sigh.

"He believes it's what my father wants" Lucifer admitted.

"You've got a lot of bloody explaining to do, Luce" Kami grumbled, reaching out to gently wipe away some blood on his cheek, nonetheless.

She could feel how he went still under her touch, his forehead wrinkling as he looked away, a strange emotion flashing over his features. Thinking she had made him uncomfortable; Kami was quick to pull her hand away, not sure what had come over her. A second later, Lucifer's eyes widened, seeming to realise something.

"Maze. Where is she?" Lucifer asked, his eyes darting around the church for his friend.

Kami whipped around, quickly finding Maze collapsed near the altar, unconscious. Her mouth went slack when she saw the blood running down her face, and the way her fingers were bent at an awkward angle. Her heart stopped for a second when she realised how badly her girlfriend had been beaten...and how she had forgotten about her, even if it was only for a few minutes. She had been thinking of nothing but Lucifer.

"Maz-" Kami's cry was cut off as a hand was suddenly grabbing her neck, hauling her upright.

"I'll admit, you caught me off guard. But you're no match for me" Uriel announced, sending a hard punch to her face, throwing her to the floor.

Uriel was kicking her before she could crawl away, his foot striking against her stomach again and again. Kami let out a cry as she heard a crunching sound from her chest, knowing for sure he was breaking her ribs. She tried to hit back, but he was far stronger than her, and with one hard kick to her face, she was losing consciousness. All of a sudden, the attack stopped, causing her eyes to flutter open, finding Uriel looming over her, with a knife through his chest. Kami's jaw fell open as she realised Lucifer had stabbed his brother in the back, grimacing as he pulled the blade out, a strange spark of light coming from the wound.

"I didn't see that coming" Uriel stuttered, before dropping to his knees beside her.

Kami gulped as his eyes connected with hers for a moment, a look of anger flashing over his face, as if he couldn't believe his own brother would kill him for her. She thought for a second he was going to try to attack her.

"You'll...ruin...him" Uriel muttered, as Lucifer crouched down beside him, taking his brother in his arms.

He roughly grabbed Lucifer's shirt, pulling him close as he whispered something in Lucifer's ear, so quiet she couldn't hear him. Lucifer let out a shaky breath as Uriel's eyes closed, and his chest grew still. He was dead.

Kami flinched when Lucifer's eyes suddenly snapped up to hers, an emotion on his face she had never seen before. He looked scared...scared of her.

"What did he say?" Kami frowned, as Lucifer shook his head slowly.

"I...I couldn't understand" Lucifer mumbled, looking back down at his brother's motionless body.

"Lucifer. You had to. It's not..." Kami trailed off, not sure what she could say.

"What have I done?" Lucifer questioned, shakily, looking down at his hands which were coated with Uriel's blood.

"He was going to kill me. You saved me. You saved us, Lucifer" Kami insisted, crawling towards him, reaching out to touch his arm.

"He was my brother" Lucifer cried, his eyes welling with tears.

"The prick got what he deserved" A familiar voice stated, as Kami looked up to see Maze stumbling towards them, clutching at her hand.

"Are you okay?" Kami asked, holding out her arms as Maze all but fell to her knees in front of her.

"I look a hell of a lot better than you" Maze pointed out, grimacing at the blood that was coating Kami's face, her nose still running with the red substance.

"I've never...I didn't mean to...Father, I-I'm sorry..." Lucifer stuttered, looking upwards with a devastated look.

The two women beside him seemed to know exactly what to do, as they both circled their arms around him simultaneously. They could feel how Lucifer shook as their arms tightened around him, hearing Lucifer beginning to sob, as he moved to clutch Kami's shoulder, hiding his face in the crook of her neck. Kami's gaze fell on the dead body behind Lucifer, feeling a chill go down her spine as she wondered again what he had said to Lucifer.

After a lot of persuading, the group had finally allowed Kami to call the police, pointing out that this wasn't something that could be covered up. Lucifer had killed someone, no matter how justified he had been. The cops were there in a matter of minutes and were soon taping up the crime scene. The three were quickly bundled into ambulances, but Lucifer and Maze insisted that their wounds were merely superficial, not letting the paramedics go near them. Kami hadn't been so lucky, and after a quick inspection, the paramedics agreed that Uriel had at the very least broken a few of her ribs. They wanted to get her to the hospital before long, knowing she would need a scan to rule out any internal bleeding. She was still clutching at her side when Chloe arrived, pulling her little sister into a hug before anyone could stop her.

"Chlo, your kind of crushing me" Kami mumbled, as Chloe instantly sprang back, realising her hug had been a little too tight.

"How many more times, Kami? How many more times are you going to get yourself hurt?" Chloe scolded, a terrified expression on her face.

"I couldn't let him hurt them" Kami pointed out, as Chloe ran a hand through her hair.

"What the hell happened?" Chloe asked, coming to sit beside her.

"I don't know. Lucifer said his brother had just...lost it. He asked to meet him here and went crazy. Almost killed him and Maze. I guess I just got in the way..." Kami trailed off, with a shake of her head.

"They were lucky you got here in time" Chloe suggested, reaching out to touch her sister's shoulder.

"The way his brother looked at me...God, why did he try to hurt Lucifer? Maze? Me? It doesn't make any sense" Kami exclaimed.

"I've spent almost a year now trying to figure out Lucifer Morningstar and the madness that follows him...to be honest, I've stopped trying. Makes for an easier life" Chloe went on, making Kami frown.

"I don't think I can do that..." Kami trailed off, when she saw Maze approaching them.

"I'll leave you two to it. I'll meet you at the hospital" Chloe smiled, giving Maze a quick nod before walking away.

"They're taking you in?" Maze asked, panic etched over her features.

"Just a precaution. I'll live. Don't worry" Kami insisted, her words upsetting her girlfriend.

"...I almost lost you today" Maze stated, after a few seconds.

"I could have lost you too. If you knew this guy was dangerous, why didn't you tell me, Maze? Why all these secrets?" Kami pushed.

"I was trying to protect you" Maze argued, as Kami let out a scoff.

"I can make my own decisions. I don't like being kept in the dark. You should know that by now" Kami muttered, pushing herself to her feet, grimacing when she did so.

"Let me ride with you to the hospital?" Maze offered, as Kami shook her head.

"I'm not the one who needs you right now, Maze" Kami stated, her eyes flickering over to Lucifer, who was surrounded by a group of officers, all trying to get his first-hand account.

"We'll protect him, right?" Kami asked, as Maze nodded, quickly.

"I always have" She murmured.

Three weeks later, Halloween was right around the corner, something that was usually Kami's favourite time of year. But the fact that Lucifer had been avoiding her since the death of his brother had all but ruined the holiday for her. She was worried about him and with good reason too from what Maze said. He had been on a non-stop party train of booze, drugs and sex and showed no sign of stopping. The investigation into Uriel's death had been ruled a clear act of self-defence, something which they were all grateful for. Kami didn't know what she would have done if Lucifer had been carted away to prison. Chloe had been relying on her more recently as Lucifer was supposed to be on compassionate leave, as his brother had still died. Something which Lucifer seemed determined to ignore. That was why Kami was so surprised to see him at their newest crime scene. Not to mention the fact that he had his tongue down one of the witness's throats. Storming forward, Kami tried to ignore the sliver of jealousy she felt at seeing Lucifer making out with the woman, grimacing as his hands wandered over the blonde's body. Without warning, she grabbed his ear, hauling him off the witness, a scowl on her face.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Kami hissed.

"I've found us a lead" Lucifer retorted, as Kami rolled her eyes.

"What, in her mouth?" Kami scoffed, as Lucifer's grin grew wider.

"Yes, actually. Imagine what I'll find it other orifices" Lucifer smirked, as he went to turn back to the blonde, but Kami was pinching his ear again, dragging him away.

"Easy!" Lucifer exclaimed, brushing her hands away.

"You shouldn't be here. If Chloe saw you kissing a witness she'd freak!" Kami explained, as Lucifer shrugged, grabbing a glass of champagne.

"Oh, and now you're going to drink at the crime scene instead?" Kami grumbled.

"Fine. What horrible murder are we solving today?" Lucifer muttered, sounding completely disinterested.

"We've got a deceased bride and injured groom. Someone clearly objected to this wedding...not that you need to know as you're still on leave. Seriously, go home" Kami insisted.

"And do what?" Lucifer retorted, in a pained voice, making Kami halt for a moment.

She took in his appearance for the first time, finding his usually immaculate suit was rumpled, his shirt half open and hair was in a mess, half plastered against his forehead. He looked drunk. And hurt. Kami shook her head, realising that she was being too harsh on him. With a shake of her head, she leaned forward to begin buttoning up his white shirt, as he stared down at her in confusion. She then reached up to smooth over his wild hair, not missing how he flinched under her gentle touch. It was as if he didn't think he deserved it. God, he was really punishing himself, Kami realised.

"Stop drinking for one thing. It's not going to help anything" Kami told him, pulling the champagne out of his hands.

"Which is exactly why I'm here. To do my job. To punish killers" Lucifer muttered, as Kami's eyes softened a little.

"Lucifer, don't-" Kami began, but another voice soon cut her off.

"You look like hell" Chloe announced, coming to stand beside her sister.

"Oh, how original" Lucifer rolled his eyes.

"Chlo, can you please tell him to go home? He's still on leave" Kami interjected.

"Not since this morning. I've spoken to your superiors. Lucifer's back in business" He smirked, as the sisters shared a look.

"You really think you're ready for that?" Chloe frowned, as Lucifer held his hands up in exasperation.

"I'm fine! In fact, I'd be a lot bloody better if people would stop asking me that!" Lucifer exclaimed, as Chloe shook her head.

"Stay here. Drink some water. I'm going to talk to some witnesses, and you just...don't do anything crazy" Chloe sighed, before turning to Kami, as she went to walk away.

"Keep an eye on him" Chloe whispered, earning a quick nod in response.

Kami's eyes flickered back to Lucifer, finding he had cut himself a slice of the wedding cake and was busy cramming it into his mouth. Half the cake crumbled against his lips, staining his already dirty shirt. She took a deep breath, resisting the urge to facepalm.

"It's going to be a long day" She murmured to herself.

"There you go. Your favourite. It's got all that syrup and shit in it. A diabetic's death wish" Kami exclaimed, sitting down next to Lucifer, handing him a cup of coffee.

"With the extra-?" Lucifer began, but she cut him off quickly.

"Cream? Yep. It's all in there" Kami answered, as Lucifer gave her a strange look before sipping the coffee.

"I didn't know you took such an interest in my coffee order" Lucifer mumbled, as she handed him a brown bag.

"Donuts. Also, your favourite. That weird raspberry and custard flavour" Kami went on, as Lucifer's lips twitched into a smile despite himself.

"I don't think this is what the Detective meant when she told you to keep an eye on me" Lucifer stated, cramming the doughnut into his mouth.

"You heard that, huh? She's just worried about you. So, am I" Kami admitted, making Lucifer huff.

"Guilt is a useless emotion. Why would I fixate on that when there are so many more fun emotions?" Lucifer grinned, reaching out to caress her cheek with the back of his fingers.

"Don't start" Kami complained, but this did little to deter him.

"Come now, Kami. What Maze doesn't know won't hurt her" Lucifer insisted, leaning closer, until their lips were almost touching, as Kami felt her heart beat a little faster despite herself.

"You really are off the deep end, aren't you?" Kami mumbled, backing up, watching as a frown grew on his face.

"When did you become so boring?" Lucifer mumbled, before pushing himself to his feet and marching away.

Kami threw her hands up in exasperation, wanting to chase after him but not knowing what she could say. His brother was dead; nothing was going to be able to bring him back. Or alleviate Lucifer's guilt. She soon spotted her sister walking down the precinct steps, who let out a sigh when she saw the way Lucifer was now angrily hitting one of the vending machines in the corner.

"He's not doing well" Chloe stated.

"That's an understatement, Chlo. The guilt's eating him alive. I really don't think he should be on this case" Kami sighed, running a hand through her hair.

"The moment he steps over the line, I'll bench him," Chloe told her, earning a quick nod in response.

"Is there something else?" Kami frowned, noticing the look of disappointment on her sister's face.

"I'm gonna' have to work overtime if we have any hope of finding this killer. But I promised Trixie that I'd take her Trick R' Treating. It's kind of a tradition of ours" Chloe explained.

"Maze and I could take her?" Kami suggested, as Chloe quirked an eyebrow.

"I don't think responsibility is a word in her vocabulary, Kami" Chloe retorted.

"C'mon. They get on great. You know Maze would never let anything happen to Trix. I'll just tell her there will be free candy involved, I'm sure she'll say yes" Kami explained, as Chloe mulled it over.

"Alright. I'll ask...but if my daughter ends up in a strip club I'm blaming you" Chloe muttered, as Kami huffed out a laugh.

"...How're things with you and Maze, by the way? Things have seemed a little frosty at home" Chloe went on, as Kami gave a small shrug.

"I just have this feeling that she's lying to me about something. Something important" Kami admitted.

"Have you asked her about it?" Chloe questioned.

"She just changes the subject. But after what I saw at the Church...I don't know, it's probably nothing..." Kami trailed off, with a shake of her head.

"And you? Are you alright? Your ribs still hurting?" Chloe asked, as Kami realised that she hadn't felt the ache in her chest in days.

"I'm fine. Any updates on the case?" Kami inquired, a moment later.

"We've got the bride's ex in interrogation. He has a violent history, I'm just on my way to interview him now-" Chloe cut herself off when her gaze landed on the interrogation room, finding the door handles seemed to have been broken off.

The women were rushing forward a second later, trying to push the doors open, but it was no good. Had someone locked the room? She attempted to kick the door down, but her foot barely seemed to dent the metal door. Kami pressed her ear to door, eyes widening when she heard whimpering from inside. She grimaced when she heard a familiar voice a moment later, beginning to realise what had happened, as Chloe raced around the adjacent door, letting herself into the viewing room so she could see what was happening inside.

"Lucifer! What are you doing?" Chloe exclaimed, glaring at the man who was lounging on one of the chairs inside the interrogation room.

"Just having a little chitchat with our friend here" Lucifer replied, not seeming to notice the fury in Chloe's tone.

"You get out of there. Now" Chloe insisted, as Lucifer rolled his eyes but pushed himself off the chair.

"Oh, she's so demanding" Lucifer muttered, making his way towards the door, ripping it open effortlessly.

Kami was taken aback for a moment, not understanding how he was able to open it so easily when she and Chloe hadn't been able to make it budge an inch. Her attention was quickly pulled to the suspect who was crying on the floor, his knees drawn up to his chest. Kami shook her head as she approached the older man, crouching down beside him, reaching out to touch his shoulder. If Lucifer had hurt the man, no matter what she or Chloe could say would stop him from being fired.

"Are you alright?" Kami questioned, noticing how the man flinched.

"H-his eyes! Did you see them?!" The man sobbed, his arms shaking uncontrollably.

"What do you mean?" Kami frowned.

"They were red! Fucking bright red! Who are you people?!" The man cried, turning away from her.

Clearly, the man was having some sort of mental breakdown. Or maybe he was just seeing things. There was no way that Lucifer's eyes had actually turned red. That wasn't possible. Although...the impossible was starting to become a regular occurrence around the nightclub owner, Kami realised.

"What're you wearing?" Kami giggled, as she looked over her niece's Halloween costume.

She had been running late after the incident at the precinct, trying to stop Lucifer from getting fired for intimidating a suspect. He didn't seem to care. Hell, Lucifer didn't seem to care about much at the moment. Maze had been left in charge of getting Trixie ready for Trick R' Treating, and had already taken the young girl to a few houses by the time Kami arrived. Instead of Trixie wearing the princess dress Chloe had picked out for her, she was now wearing an astronaut helmet and an assortment of kid's jewellery and colourful leggings. It was certainly...different.

"I'm the President of Mars. Duh" Trixie replied, sassily.

"Oh, of course..." Kami trailed off, when she saw Mazes' appearance.

She was wearing her classic look of a leather jacket, trousers and boots but it was her makeup that had Kami taken aback. Half her face was perfectly normal-looking, whereas the other had some sort of prosthetic attached, giving her skin a rotting appearance. She had a strange white eye contact in, which Kami doubted she could even see out of. Her cheek was hollowed, only being kept together by stringy pieces of flesh. She wondered how long it took Maze to put the prosthetic on, it looked so real. Kami could see how Maze's good eye widened when she saw her eyes travelling over her face.

"You really went all out for Halloween, huh?" Kami laughed, in amazement.

"It is my favourite holiday" Maze shrugged.

"Thank you for doing this, Maze. I know it's probably not what you had planned for today" Kami stated, as Maze gave a small shrug.

"I expected worse" Maze replied.

"Still, you've definitely earnt some girlfriend points" Kami smiled, leaning forward to press a quick kiss to Maze's lips.

"...This doesn't freak you out?" Maze asked, gesturing to her face.

"You're gorgeous, Maze, but that's not why I like you. It's kind of lame to admit, but it's because of what's in here" Kami explained, poking Maze in the chest.

"My tits?" Maze guessed, making Kami snort, as she slung her arm over her girlfriend's shoulder.

"Because on really shitty days you can still make me laugh" Kami told her, as Maze's lips twitched into a smile.

"I'm telling Mommy you said a bad word" Trixie grinned, in a mischievous tone.

"Oh, well then I might just have to confiscate this" Kami smirked, reaching down to grab the pumpkin bag Trixie was carrying.

"Hey! No fair!" Trixie complained, jumping up to try to grab the bag back.

"Alright, I'll give it back...if I get half your candy" Kami suggested, as Trixie pursed her lips.

"...Deal" Trixie nodded, excitedly, as the bag was returned to her.

Kami watched as she then skipped forward to the next house, a suspicious item waving around in her hand, as Kami raised an eyebrow at Maze, who gave an innocent shrug.

"Is that one of your whips?" Kami giggled.

"She's the President of Mars. She won't get very far without whipping a few people" Maze replied, as Kami shook her head fondly.

"Hey, um...I'm sorry if I've been distant recently. I promise, I'm gonna' make more effort with us, okay? Maybe we can go out after this..." Kami trailed off, as her phone began to ring.

She let out a long sigh as she took her mobile out of her pocket, seeing it was Chloe who was calling. Shooting Maze an apologetic look, she quickly answered the phone call, hoping it was just her sister checking in on Trixie.

"I need you to tail Lucifer" Chloe announced.

"What's happened?" Kami frowned, noting the serious tone to Chloe's voice.

"He punched Dan. Stole his badge and his gun. You were right, Kami. He doesn't know what he's doing. I'm scared he's going to get hurt" Chloe explained.

"Jesus. Do you know where he is now?" Kami asked.

"He's back at the precinct. Look, I'd keep an eye on him myself but we've found the killer. I'm heading to Strode Pharmaceuticals to apprehend him. Please, just...keep Lucifer out of harm's way, okay?" Chloe went on, clearly worried.

"Sure. I'll be there soon. Be careful, Chlo" Kami replied, before hanging up the call.

"You're leaving?" Maze guessed, in a sour tone.

"It's Lucifer-" Kami began, but Maze cut her off.

"Isn't it always?" Maze scoffed, as Kami gave her a look.

"It's not like that. He's in trouble" Kami stated.

"Fine. I'll look after your niece, go run off with my best friend again" Maze muttered, before storming towards where Trixie was knocking on the door to the nearest house.

"Maze..." Kami trailed off, not sure what to say.

She reached the precinct just in time to find Lucifer's car speeding away, and quickly tailed him, surprised to find him heading right towards Strode Pharmaceuticals. He must have found out where Chloe was headed, maybe he was still trying to help? He parked right outside the main entrance, wasting no time in jumping out of his car, not having realised Kami was close on his heel.

"Lucifer! What the hell are you doing?" Kami called after him.

"Maybe something good for once" Lucifer snapped, pushing open the glass front doors.

"What does that mean-" Kami was cut off, as Lucifer began shouting, rushing towards a middle aged woman, holding his arms out.

"I know you're out there, Mr Sniper!" Lucifer exclaimed, pushing himself in front of the woman.

Kami jumped out of her skin as a bullet whizzed through the air right above their heads a second later. She realised the killer must have been after the woman Lucifer was trying to protect. Kami didn't seem to have the same faith Lucifer did that they wouldn't get shot.

"Oh, come on! You can do better than that! Shoot me!" Lucifer shouted, holding his arms out again, making himself a larger target.

"Have you gone fucking crazy?!" Kami gaped, rushing to his side.

"Kami!" A familiar voice screeched, as her eyes flickered up to see Chloe watching them from the first floor, a horrified expression on her face.

"Uh-oh. The police are here. Gonna' have to hurry up Mr Shooter!" Lucifer warned, as a bullet struck a glass advertisement beside them.

"Seriously? I mean, I'm standing right here" Lucifer goaded, as Chloe raced off, presumedly to find the shooter.

"Just shoot me! Do it...do it!" Lucifer screamed, angrily.

Another bullet whizzed right past Lucifer's head a second later, far too close for comfort. It was then that Kami saw the look of relief on Lucifer's face, and realised that he really did want to get shoot. He wanted to die. Kami's feet were moving before she knew what she was doing, putting herself right in front of the older man.

"Get out of here, Kami" Lucifer hissed, grabbing her shoulder, trying to push her away.

"No! I'm not gonna' let you get yourself killed!" Kami retorted, as a bullet struck the floor beside them.

"Why not? Maybe that's what should happen. Maybe that's what I deserve" Lucifer spat out, as Kami twisted around.

"No! It's not! You're not a bad person, Lucifer! You were put in a position that no one should be! Your brother was gonna' kill me. You didn't have a choice-" Kami began, as Lucifer cut her off.

"Yes, I did! I...I chose you..." Lucifer trailed off, with a frown.

A sharp shout from the second floor had their heads snapping up, as they watched Chloe shove the sniper against the railing, his rifle now on the floor by his feet. They hadn't even realised the shooting had stopped. Neither spoke for a few moments, not sure what to say to Lucifer's sudden revelation. He had chosen Kami over his own brother. His flesh and blood. Why?

"...I think you both just saved my life" The woman who was still cowering beside Lucifer mumbled, as the pair had completely forgotten about her existence.

"Well, I'm glad someone's having a better day than I am" Lucifer muttered.
