epilogue: what time is it? summertime!
Kairi stared at herself in the mirror. She pursed her lips and fixed her bangs for the umpteenth time. Her lips were already glossy as it was, but she decided to add another layer on just in case. Something wasn't right and she couldn't pinpoint what it was. Her hair was fine and her face was decent, so what was it?
She stretched her arms and yawned. It was 6:31 in the morning and school started at 8 am. She was thankful for those extra fifteen minutes tacked on since Radiant Garden started school at 7:45. (It was a monstrous decision really.) That was one thing she liked about going to school in Twilight Town. Spending time with Naminé and Xion was also a plus. Sometimes Olette would join their little group when she got sick of Pence and Hayner acting like idiots. More so Hayner than Pence.
Her year in Twilight Town went smoothly. She tried her best to keep in touch with everyone after they went to their respective homes, Sora and Riku in Destiny Islands and Grandma and Axel in Radiant Garden. Roxas and Ven went to another public school in Twilight Town, but they would meet up with the girls to study. Kairi tried her best to talk to Grandma and Axel everyday. Grandma told her about the local gossip which Kairi relegated to Xion as Xion lived for gossip. Axel rambled on and on about being a senior and Isa being a pain in the ass about getting assignments done.
She wondered once everyone got here if they would notice her new haircut. It was just above her shoulders, reminding her of fourteen-year-old Kairi's hair. Kairi shivered, remembering the kind of person she'd been back then. Fourteen-year-old Kairi made present Kairi want to curl up in a ball and die.
Knock knock
"You coming down to eat breakfast?" Naminé's soft voice wafted through the door.
"Yeah," Kairi said as she picked up her bag and headed for the door. "When do you think they're gonna be here? Midnight?"
Her roomie let out a laugh. "Sooner than that. All I know is everyone is being secretive about it."
"Of course they are." Kairi rolled her eyes. She scanned her room, hoping she wasn't missing anything as this was the last day of school. Frankly, she wouldn't even come in today if it weren't for one of her teachers deciding to have the final exam on the last day of school. Who does that anyway?
The last thing Kairi expected after eating breakfast with Naminé and heading out the door was to see the whole gang on the front porch, duffle bags and suitcases galore. She turned to look at Naminé.
"Did you plan this?"
Naminé batted her eyes innocently. "Of course not, Kairi. What makes you say that?"
Kairi sighed. This was going to be a crazy summer.
The End
(For real this time.)
a/n: i was honestly debating on whether or not Kairi and Naminé should be sisters, but decided not to go in that direction. The last few chapters of this fic was rushed, ngl, but! But I'm still proud of myself for finishing it nonetheless. This is the first story I've finished unless you count oneshots, but I don't. In the past I've never been able to finish a chapter-ed fic, but here we are! Woo! Honestly I'm not sure how to feel right now. I was honestly going to post the last chapter on March 28th which is Sora's birthday and the day KH1 released. I feel like there's so much I want to say, but my mind's all over the place rn. Lol.
Thank you for everyone who read this story. (That includes the silent readers!) I think my next project is going to be a homage to romance/humor stories from circa 2007. I wrote a oneshot based on that era in kh fanfic. I just miss it, okay? I'm not sure how long that fic will be, but hopefully it'll be a fun, little project. XD
