At last, a new chapter for this story has been posted!
As you may have noticed, the title of this fic has been changed from "Alternate Events 4: A New Phase" to "Alternate Events 4: Multiversal Clashes". The reason for that is because I originally planned to write several more fics for this series following this story before getting on with my take on "Crisis on Infinite Earths". However, on Februray 14th, I started a full-time job, which I got hired at earlier than expected, so I have far less time to write than I had before. This led to me canceling most of my plans and now I've decided that "Crisis" will be the next and final installment of this tale, although there will be a descriptive summary of noteworthy events that happened between "Multiversal Clashes" and "Crisis" included in either the epilogue of the former or the prologue of the latter.
To respond to Green Hal37's review: I don't see how it's unrealistic for that many (only forty-seven) people to be present in the Metro Tower. There are much, much smaller places in real life, such as churches, libraries, restaurants, clubs, and even certain houses, that could easily hold hundreds of people without much of an issue. Given how huge the Metro Tower in JLU is, the main room alone could hold five times the amount of people that the Dr. Fates brought there and still have room to spare for more.
Chapter 11
Earth-192
Martian Manhunter moved his hands away from Supes' temples and turned to Batman. "It's done."
Batman nodded, placing the chunk of kryptonite back into his utility belt.
Supes groaned and looked up to see Martian Manhunter, Batman, and Zatanna-192 standing over him. "J'onn? Batman?"
"You're going to be all right, Superman," Martian Manhunter assured him.
"What happened to me?" Supes wondered with a puzzled expression. "I was with Lois and then all of a sudden..."
"We'll explain everything to you after we stop the Superman from Earth-50," Batman stated.
Meanwhile, Kal was brutally pummeling Captain Atom with his fists and slamming him hard on the ground. At this point, the latter was unconscious and his body was heavily battered with cracks all over it. Kal continued throwing one punch after another into Captain Atom's face, chest, and torso as more cracks appeared on him.
A pair of large green fists conjured by Hal Jordan smashed into Kal, sending him flying off. Before Kal could fully recover, Hal conjured a green wrecking ball and sent it smashing into Kal's head, dazing the Man of Steel. Kal glared at Hal and retaliated with a blast of heat vision, which Hal blocked with a green barrier.
Kal was suddenly sent flying off as Supes rammed into him. Kal landed on the ground and slowly got back to his feet, only for Zatanna-192 to bind him with enchanted ropes at the same time Wayne threw a pellet. Just as Kal reacted to the pellet, it exploded directly in front of his face and the kryptonite gas entered his lungs, causing him to cough and groan as his body started weakening.
Batman took the chunk of kryptonite out of his utility belt and ran up to Kal, exposing him to the mineral as the Superman of Earth-50 groaned in agony, while Martian Manhunter approached Kal and seized the latter's temples as he began to do his telepathic work to free Kal's mind from what the Lex Luthors had done to it.
Earth-96
Kent cried out in pain as Shazam fired lightning at his chest, sending him flying off. Before Kent could recover, he received a powerful punch to the face from Captain Marvel, who immediately followed up by joining his fists and slamming them hard on Kent's chest, sending the Kryptonian crashing to the ground. As Kent staggered to his feet, Captain Marvel and Shazam flew at him simultaneously, smashing double fists into Kent's face and sending him flying off again.
Captain Marvel flew to Kent, who stumbled back to his feet, got behind him, and grabbed Kent firmly around the arms.
"SHAZAM!" Captain Marvel shouted.
A lightning bolt descended from the sky, slamming on top of Kent's chest as he screamed in agony.
"SHAZAM!"
Another lightning bolt descended, striking Kent square in the chest as he screamed in agony again.
"SHAZAM!"
"SHAZAM!"
"SHAZAM!"
After each shout, another lightning bolt smashed into Kent's chest.
As the smoke around them cleared, Captain Marvel held Kent in his arms, the latter having fallen unconscious as the repeated attacks of the former's magical and immensely powerful lightning was too much even for him to handle. The House of El symbol on Kent's chest had been burnt away, exposing his injured chest.
"Wow, that... that really worked," Shazam noted in amazement.
"Thank goodness it did because it isn't easy taking down Superman," Captain Marvel replied, setting the unconscious Kryptonian on the ground. "Or a Superman."
J'onn and Earth-192 Red Tornado descended near the three heroes.
"Your lightning is clearly very powerful," J'onn said to Captain Marvel.
"Yeah, well, I never had to use this much of it in a fight before, but against a mind-controlled Superman, it was the only way to incapacitate him," Captain Marvel pointed out.
"I think I'm gonna try that next time I have to take on someone extremely powerful," Shazam said.
On the ground, Kent groaned as he came to. Slowly opening his eyes, he sat up, letting out a groan of pain as he clutched his burnt chest.
"Superman," J'onn called out, as he, Captain Marvel, Shazam, and Red Tornado stared at Kent with a mix of concern and wariness.
In response, the Earth-38 version of the Man of Steel looked up in bewildered. "J'onn?"
The Martian grinned, realizing his Kryptonian friend's mind was, indeed, back to normal. "It's good to have you back, Superman."
Earth-50
Kara K punched Conner in the face three times before he threw a punch at her, which she easily blocked. Conner tried to punch her again, but Kara K caught his fist and clenched it before head-butting Conner in the face, making his nose bleed. She then punched Conner in the face with an uppercut, knocking him many feet into the air. She flew up at Conner and smashed both of her fists against his chest, sending him crashing to the ground with a thud. Kara K flew down to Conner in a blur, grabbing him around the neck with both of her hands.
"Kara, stop!" Conner pleaded, struggling to breathe as Kara K started choking him.
He grabbed Kara K's arms, trying to pull her hands from around his neck, but she wouldn't budge. She picked Conner up and slammed him on the ground, dazing him. She then raised her fist, preparing to bring it down on Conner's face.
That was when a pair of robotic hands grabbed her arm and pulled it back.
Kara K whirled around to face Hank Henshaw, otherwise known as Cyborg Superman!
Snarling, she hurled a punch at Cyborg Superman, who raised his arm to block the blow. Cyborg Superman raised his own fist and delivered a powerful punch to Kara K's jaw, knocking her several feet back. He flew at her with another punch, but Kara K quickly recovered and kicked Cyborg Superman in the chest, sending him flying back. Kara K unleashed her heat vision, blasting Cyborg Superman in the chest as he stood his ground against the beam. She flew at him with a punch, but Cyborg Superman sidestepped and punched Kara K in the abdomen before following up with a punch to her face, knocking Kara K several feet back.
Before Kara K could straighten herself, Zatanna-21 approached the blonde Kryptonian and used her magic to hold her in place, grunting under the effort due to Kara K's immense strength.
Ollie flung a kryptonite dart that hit Kara K on the right side of her neck, weakening her as she groaned in pain. He then fired an arrow that exploded directly in front of Kara K's face, sending kryptonite gas into her lungs as she coughed and groaned from the ill and painful effects of the green mineral.
"Dnuorg no mals!" Zatanna-21 chanted.
Moving her hands in a downward motion, the Mistress of Magic telekinetically slammed the weakened Kara K on the ground and the impact knocked the blonde Kryptonian woman out.
"Dnecsed!" Zatanna-21 said, lowering herself to the ground.
"Well, it looks like we're done here, guys and girls," Ollie noted. "Both of our Kryptonian blondies are down for the count."
"If what the Dr. Fates said was true, they should be back to their normal selves once they come to," Green Arrow pointed out.
"What about Galatea?" Black Canary wondered. "Even without the Luthor brainwashing, she's an evil clone of Supergirl."
"We'll figure out what to do about Galatea once we're back at the Tower," Green Arrow said.
Earth-38
Metamorpho formed a huge fist made out of stone and hurled it at Diana, smashing her square in the chest as she was staggered back. Quickly recovering, Diana raised her shield to block another punch Metamorpho sent towards her with his stone fist.
The Booster Golds of Earths 21 and 192 fired energy beams at Diana, with Vic joining the two golden-garbed heroes as he fired his plasma blasts. In a deftly manner, Diana blocked or dodged all the blasts.
Arthur rushed Diana from behind and grabbed her in a firm chokehold, grunting under the effort of trying to keep the Earth-21 Wonder Woman in place.
Elongated Man quickly wrapped his stretchy body around Diana's legs, torso, and arms, restraining her as much as he could while Diana struggled to free herself to no avail.
Metamorpho held up his hands in front of Diana's face, emitting some kind of poisonous gas that entered her lungs. Diana started gasping and coughing, the gas taking effect on her body as the world before her eyes started becoming blurry. After about a minute, the Amazon finally passed out.
As Kal-El of Earth-96 chased Barry-Blue around the open landscape, A.C. was on the ground, unconscious, his trident lying beside him. The King of Atlantis' face was marred with blood and bruises, while his bloody nose was broken, his left eye was swollen and blackened, and his body was battered with multiple bruises.
Barry-Blue sped around, avoiding all the punches that Kal-El threw at him. The Flash of Earth-50 had to move at full speed, since this version of Superman was able to keep up with him easier than the one from his own universe.
Barry-Blue yelped, ducking to narrowly avoid a blast of heat vision that almost struck the back of his head. As Kal-El fired another blast of heat vision, this one concentrated, Barry-Blue ran in a series of maneuvers while the beam chased him around.
Ceasing his heat vision attack, Kal-El descended to the ground with a powerful thud, producing a huge shockwave that knocked Barry-Blue off his feet as he went flying many feet backwards.
As Barry-Blue landed on the ground, he groaned in pain. "I definitely should've seen that coming."
He suddenly sped out of the way as Kal-El flew down to him with a punch, the Kryptonian's fist colliding with the ground instead. Kal-El turned to Barry-Blue, swinging another punch at him, which the speedster managed to dodge. Kal-El hurled several more punches at him and Barry-Blue managed to avoid all but the last one, which sent him flying back as Kal-El's fist connected with his chest.
As Barry-Blue landed on the ground again, Kal-El unleashed his freeze breath, encasing Earth-50 Scarlet Speedster in solid ice from the neck down.
"Oh, boy," Barry-Blue muttered with widened eyes as Kal-El raised his fist, preparing to take the former's head off.
However, before Kal-El could deliver what would've certainly been a fatal blow, he was suddenly punched in the back and knocked to the ground by a pair of glowing green fists.
Groaning in pain, the Superman of Earth-96 turned around, looking up at the person who had attacked him.
"Who are you?" Kal-El wondered.
"Call me Metamorpho," the man in question introduced himself, standing before the downed Kryptonian with both of his arms made of kryptonite. "And I'm sorry to do this, alternate universe Superman."
Metamorpho unleashed a cloud of kryptonite gas on Kal-El, sending it into the latter's lungs as the Kryptonian started coughing and grunting in pain, becoming weakened and ill from the effects of the green mineral that was actually capable of ending his life.
Metamorpho then delivered several punches to Kal-El's face, the last of which knocked him out cold.
"I'm so glad you joined us in this fight," Earth-192 Booster Gold said to Metamorpho. "Would've been a lot harder taking them down without ya."
"I don't disagree," Metamorpho said.
"So you can transform your body into any element, including kryptonite," Vic noted.
"That's right," Metamorpho confirmed.
At that moment, Barry-Blue sped over to the other heroes, having vibrated out of the ice that Kal-El had trapped him in. "Oww," the speedster cried out, clutching his chest. "My chest is in so much pain right now."
Noticing A.C. lying on the ground, Arthur rushed over to his unconscious counterpart and patted the other Aquaman on the face. Barry-Blue, Vic, Metamorpho, Elongated Man, Earth-192 Booster Gold, and Earth-21 Booster Gold followed him.
A.C. stirred, groaning as he came to. He opened his eyes to see his Earth-50 counterpart standing over him.
"Welcome back, boy," Arthur said. He held out his hand, which A.C. took as Arthur helped him back to his feet. "You look like crap for a married man."
"Is there any water around here by any chance?" A.C. wondered. "I need it badly right now."
Arthur turned to Metamorpho. "Since you can transform into any element, I assume you can generate a wave of water for my man here? If his physiology works just like mine, it'll help him heal."
"Sure thing," Metamorpho nodded, before turning to A.C. and unleashing a huge wave of water at him as the other heroes moved out of the way.
Aquaman of Earth-21 raised his arms and opened his mouth, indulging in the water that made contact with his skin as he felt his strength returning and injuries rapidly healing.
"Thanks a lot, bro," A.C. said to Metamorpho. "That was exactly what I needed to get my strength and energy back."
"Don't mention it," the latter told the former.
"With our brainwashed opponents out for the count, I take it our superheroic job here is done," Earth-21 Booster Gold stated.
"Let's hope when they wake up, they'll be back to their regular selves and not try to kill us," Barry-Blue said.
"According to the Dr. Fates, that should be the case," Vic pointed out.
Astra flew out of the way, avoiding the large green hammer construct that John Stewart aka Green Lantern of Earth-192 hurled at her. As Astra retaliated with her heat vision, Green Lantern brought up a barrier to protect himself from the beam.
That was when a speeding red blur suddenly appeared as Wally West aka The Flash of Earth-192 returned. Having dipped them in a cement mixer, his hands were coated in solid concrete like a pair of gloves.
"Hey! Ready for another game of catch-me-if-you-can?!" Flash shouted at Astra, who immediately ceased her heat vision attack and turned to the speedster with a glare.
As Astra flew at him with her fists outward, Flash sidestepped out of the way with a smirk. Using his superior speed, Flash lunged towards Astra and started pummeling away, delivering non-stop, high-speed blows to her face, chest, and torso with his concrete-covered fists.
Astra grunted, the powerful blows from Flash actually causing her pain and bruising her nigh-invulnerable body. The Kryptonian general could've easily handled a few dozen or even a hundred such punches without much problems, but after receiving nine hundred and fifty-three of them within roughly two-and-a-half seconds, Astra was severely dazed and ended up passing out at the end of the persistent assault.
Flash slowed to a halt, shaking his hands in pain. He vibrated his hands, shattering the remaining cement on them into pieces.
"Well done, Flash," Green Lantern complimented, descending behind his red-garbed teammate.
"One down, one to go," Flash replied. "Let's see how the others are holding up against our favorite Amazon."
Wonder Woman blocked the strikes of Big Barda's mega-rod with her bracelets before rushing forward with a punch, smashing her fist directly into the other woman's face as Barda staggered a few feet back. Wonder Woman avoided a swung from Aquaman of Earth-192, who tried to attack her with the metallic hook on his left arm, and kicked him in the chest, sending Aquaman flying off, though he managed to land his feet on the ground.
Wally West of Earth-1 hurled a lightning bolt at Wonder Woman from behind, getting her in the back as the Amazon was staggered a few feet forward.
Barda charged forward, smashing her mega-rod into Wonder Woman's face three times before following up with a strong punch that also struck Wonder Woman's face and then a kick to her abdomen, knocking the Amazon on the ground. Wonder Woman quickly recovered and, in a sweeping motion, kicked Barda's legs from under her, knocking the latter on the ground.
Wonder Woman turned to see Shayera flying towards her, preparing to strike with her mace. As Wonder Woman clenched her fists, about to attack Shayera, Aquaman extended his arm hook into a long cable, which wrapped itself around Wonder Woman's body and restrained her.
Taking advantage of the situation, Shayera smashed her mace directly into Wonder Woman's face, marking it with a bruise as Wonder Woman grunted in pain. Shayera delivered another powerful blow to Wonder Woman's face with her mace. Then another. And another. And another, this time making Wonder Woman's face bleed. Shayera then smashed the mace on top of Wonder Woman's head, dazing the Amazon.
"Let me," Barda insisted, raising her mega-rod.
"Knock yourself out," Shayera remarked.
In one swift move, Barda brought the mega-rod down on Wonder Woman's head as hard as she could, dazing the latter further. Barda then struck Wonder Woman's head two more times before delivering a strike to the latter's forehead, finally knocking Wonder Woman out cold.
Earth-78
Kara Zor-El of Earth-78, otherwise known as Linda Lee and Superwoman, flew out of the way to avoid a powerful vortex of wind that her opponent, Tess Mercer aka Red Tornado of Earth-21, fired at her. Linda unleashed her heat vision, blasting Tess square in the chest as the red android woman was sent flying back. Linda flew at Tess in a blur, sending her crashing to the ground with a powerful punch to the face.
Before Tess could recover, Linda flew down, grabbed her around the throat with one hand, and used her other hand to deliver five brutal punches to Tess' chest and two to Tess' face. Despite the thin force field-like aura installed in her system absorbing much of the impact of Linda's blows, a crack appeared in the center of Tess' robotic body, but she was fine otherwise.
Linda raised her fist, preparing to smash it into Tess' face once more, when someone suddenly grabbed her from behind in a chokehold.
It was Mon-El, who had decided to help Tess take on Linda, while Imra Ardeen and Leslie Willis assisted Earth-192 Supergirl against Kara Danvers.
"This is really weird," Mon-El remarked, grunting under the effort of trying to keep Linda in the chokehold. "You're a version of Kara from another universe, but you look a lot like her adoptive mother Eliza, who is from Earth rather than Krypton."
Hissing angrily, Linda reached back and grabbed Mon-El's arms, pulling them away from her neck as Mon-El gasped, surprised by her strength.
"And you're even stronger, got it," Mon-El noted.
Linda head-butted him in the face with the back of her head, dazing Mon-El as he let go of her. Whirling around, Linda hit Mon-El in the jaw with an uppercut punch, knocking him many feet into the air.
Tess unleashed a huge vortex of wind at Linda from behind, sending the latter flying off and crashing on the ground. Tess flew over to Linda, who was about to get back up, when a cyclone descended on top of her, dazing the blonde Kryptonian.
John Henry Irons aka Steel of Earth-192, whose metallic suit of armor had suffered some damage with cracks visible in several areas, flew over and hovered next to Tess, while Mon-El appeared near the other two heroes in a blur.
"Good to see you again, Tess," Mon-El greeted.
"Right back at you, Mon-El," Tess greeted back with a smile.
As Linda got back to her feet, Tess, Mon-El, and Steel prepared to engage her when a portal suddenly opened near them as Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman of Earth-50 emerged from it. Courtesy of Earth-50 Dr. Fate's magic, her body was fully healed from the injuries she'd received from Kara Kent.
"Wonder Woman?" Steel asked, before noticing that the newcomer wasn't quite the same Amazon he knew.
Prince turned to Steel, regarding him curiously. "Yes, I am a Wonder Woman. From Earth-50 to be exact."
Before the conversation could go on, Linda blasted Mon-El in the chest with her heat vision and the beam sent the Daxamite flying back. Linda then sped to Tess, sending her flying off as well with a powerful punch to the face.
Steel fired a cannon projectile from his kinetic hammer at Linda, who was knocked a few feet back as it struck the middle of her torso. Linda quickly recovered and flew at Steel, grabbing him and tossing him on the ground with a thud.
In a blur, Prince charged at Linda from behind and rammed her shield into the latter's back, knocking Linda on the ground.
Linda got back to her feet and turned to Prince with a glare before unleashing her heat vision, which Prince blocked with her bracelets as she gritted her teeth and slid a few feet back under the beam's power. Once Linda ceased the attack, Prince slammed her bracelets together, producing a huge blast of white-hot energy that struck Linda dead on and sent her flying off. Linda managed to land her feet on the ground before she and Prince rushed each other. Linda threw a punch, which Prince dodged before smashing her shield into Linda's face and doing the same to her chest, staggering Linda back. Prince then kicked Linda's legs from under her in a sweeping motion, knocking the Kryptonian on the ground.
Linda rolled back to her feet, only for Mon-El to suddenly grab her left arm while Tess grabbed Linda's right arm as the two restrained her. Linda grunted, trying to break free, while Mon-El and Tess used all their strength to hold her in place.
Prince threw her lasso around Linda's neck and it glowed. "Kara Zor-El of Krypton," the Amazon said to the Kryptonian. "Remember who you are. Tell me who you are."
After a few moments, Linda suddenly stopped struggling against Mon-El and Tess' grips and turned to Prince with what seemed to be a puzzled look.
"My name... my name... my name is..." Linda stammered, before letting out a groan as she closed her eyes. When she opened them a moment later, her expression was stone cold and Linda once again started struggling against Mon-El and Tess as they immediately held her arms firmly.
"Fight it, Kara Zor-El," Prince urged. "You must fight it. Resist the spell of the Lex Luthors that has corrupted your mind and remember who you are. You are Kara Zor-El. Your name is..."
"Kara Zor-El!" Linda exclaimed, before she once more stopped struggling against Mon-El and Tess. Turning to Diana, she declared, "My name... is Kara Zor-El. And I am Superwoman!"
Prince smiled. "It worked."
With that, she removed the lasso from around Linda's neck.
Linda glanced around in bewilderment. "What happened to me? Where am I?"
"It's a long story, but you were brainwashed into battling another Kryptonian by a group of madmen," Tess explained.
"You're going to be all right," Prince assured Linda, who had a shameful look on her face. "We're going to find the men responsible for what happened to us and make sure they won't get away with what they've done."
As Kara D and Earth-192 Supergirl exchanged powerful blows, Leslie Willis hurled a blast of electricity at the former's face, knocking Kara D's head back as she grunted from the pain. This gave Earth-192 Supergirl an opening as she delivered two punches to her Earth-38 counterpart's face before following up with an uppercut to her jaw, knocking Kara D several meters into the air. Supergirl flew up after Kara D and delivered a kick to her chest, sending Kara D crashing on the ground. As Supergirl flew down to her, Kara D rolled back to her feet and blocked a punch her Earth-192 counterpart threw at her. She then sent a punch to Supergirl's abdomen, knocking the other Girl of Steel back.
That was when Kara D was struck by another blast of electricity from Leslie, who concentrated the attack from both of her hands as Kara D grunted from the pain.
"Sorry, Supergirl," Leslie said to Kara D. "I didn't really want any part of this, but that magic guy with the creepy-looking gold-plated helmet who brought us here didn't give me much of a choice."
As Leslie continued firing electricity at Kara D, Supergirl got behind the latter and grabbed Kara D in a firm chokehold, restraining the Earth-38 Girl of Steel, who continued groaning in pain.
Imra placed a hand to her temple and attacked Kara D with a powerful mental blast, causing the Kryptonian to groan louder from the combination of Imra and Leslie's powers hitting her simultaneously.
After several seconds, Imra ceased her mental attack and turned to Leslie. "You can stop now, Livewire."
Leslie ceased her electric attack on Kara D, who was severely dazed and looked like she was on the verge of passing out.
"I'm in need for a serious recharge," Leslie said, panting from exhaustion.
Supergirl regarded her with an alarmed expression. "You're Livewire?"
"The one and only," Leslie replied with a grin. "What is it with the blondies of your Kryptonian species dressing like cheerleaders? At least the actual Supergirl finally ditched the skirt and threw on some pants."
Supergirl glowered, clearly offended by Leslie's 'actual Supergirl' remark.
Kara D groaned, looking around in bewilderment before noticing Leslie and Imra.
"Supergirl," Imra said.
"Imra?" Kara D said, before turning to her former enemy. "And Leslie." With a puzzled expression, she asked, "Where am I and what happened to me?"
Earth-21
High up in the air, Clark Kent aka Superman of Earth-21 interlocked fingers with his former enemy and current ally, Brainiac 5, as the two struggled against each other's strength.
"I helped you overcome a form of darkness that plagued your mind before, Kal-El," Brainiac 5 reminded the Man of Steel. "I intend to do exactly that again."
"No, thanks," Clark snarled, before head-butting Brainiac 5 in the face hard and staggering the Kryptonian super-computer's head a few feet back.
Clark delivered a powerful punch to Brainiac 5's chest, sending him hurtling hundreds of feet through the air. Clark flew after Brainiac 5 and joined his fists before slamming them on top of Brainiac 5's head, sending him crashing to the ground with a powerful thud. As Clark flew straight down towards him in a blur, Brainiac 5 leapt out of the way, while Clark's fists collided with the ground, heavily damaging it on impact. Clark got back up and turned to Brainiac 5 before hurling a punch at him. Brainiac 5 raised his arm, blocking Clark's punch, and dodged to avoid another punch that Clark hurled at him. Brainiac 5 delivered a powerful uppercut to Clark's jaw, knocking the Man of Steel many feet into the air. Brainiac 5 flew up at Clark, grabbed him, and flew back down, brutally slamming Clark on the ground. As Clark staggered back to his feet, Brainiac 5 grabbed him in a firm chokehold from behind.
"You're the greatest hero in the entire universe, Kal-El," Brainiac 5 stated, grunting under the effort of keeping Clark restrained. "Don't allow your nemesis Lex Luthor to destroy who you are."
Growling, Clark flew several feet in the air and slammed his back on the ground, freeing himself from the chokehold while Brainiac 5 was dazed by the impact. Clark stood up, grabbed Brainiac 5 with both hands, lifted him up, and slammed him on the ground hard. He then kicked Brainiac 5, sending him flying many feet away.
Suddenly, a red blur appeared behind Clark and he cried out in pain as Bart stabbed him in the back of his right shoulder with one of Oliver's kryptonite-tipped arrows.
"Sorry about that, stretch, but I had no choice," Bart apologized, not liking literally stabbing his good friend in the back.
Clark turned around, glaring at the speedster, who wasted no time speeding around in circles to build up electricity. As Clark reached back in an attempt to remove the arrow embedded in the back of his shoulder, Bart hurled a huge lightning bolt at him. Due to the kryptonite in the arrow weakening him, Clark grunted in pain as the lightning hit him dead on and knocked him on the ground.
Barry-Red appeared next to Bart, eyeing the other Flash in surprise. "How did you do that? My lightning had no effect on him."
"Well, stabbing him with one of those green k arrows will surely do the trick," Bart pointed out.
"Right," Barry-Red nodded in understanding.
Clark started getting back to his feet, pushing through the intense pain shooting through his entire body as the kryptonite continued to affect him.
John Stewart aka Green Lantern of Earth-21 flew over, smashing a huge green baseball bat into Clark's face before immediately following up with a strike to the top of Clark's head, knocking him back on the ground. Stewart then struck Clark in the face with the baseball bat construct again, dazing him.
Brainiac 5 sped over and looked down at Clark, who was struggling to get back up due to the painful and weakening effects of the kryptonite arrow getting worse with every passing moment. Brainiac 5 stamped Clark in the face hard, knocking him out cold.
Alexander 'Lex' Luthor of Earth-64 delivered several powerful blows to Earth-78 Superman's face with red sunlight gauntlets, staggering him back. In retaliation, Superman punched Alexander square in the chest, sending him flying off and crashing on the ground.
Lois Lane of Earth-64 kicked Superman in the chest, knocking him several meters back. As Superman steadied himself, Lois-64 sped up to him and threw a punch towards his face. Superman raised his hand, catching Lois-64's fist and clenching it as she grunted in pain. Lois-64 tried to punch him with her other fist, but Superman caught that one and clenched it too. He head-butted Lois-64 in the face, dazing her. Lois-64 head-butted Superman back, slightly knocking his head back as the attack barely fazed him. Superman then head-butted Lois-64 again, this time hitting her so hard that she crash-landed on the ground with a powerful thud.
Superman turned to see John Jones flying at him, but was too late to prevent the Martian from knocking him many feet into the air with a powerful uppercut to the jaw. Jones flew up after Superman, grabbed the Man of Steel by the cape, and flung him on the ground in a spinning motion. Superman landed on the ground with a powerful thud, dazed by the impact. As Superman got back to his feet, Alexander flew towards him, firing several blasts of green kryptonite energy at the Man of Steel's chest. Slightly staggered back and momentarily stunned, Superman shrugged off the kryptonite blast, having built up some resistance to the effects of the poisonous mineral due to his advanced age and the amount of time he'd spent under Earth's yellow sun.
In a blur, Superman sped towards Alexander, grabbed him around the throat with one hand, and slammed him on the ground hard. Superman raised his fist, preparing to deliver a blow to Alexander's head.
Lois-64 gasped, concerned for Alexander's well-being, before she wasted no time rushing at Superman in a blur with her fists at the ready.
Superman suddenly turned to Lois-64, raising an arm to easily block a punch she hurled at him. He then punched Lois-64 in the abdomen, sending her flying off and crashing on the ground.
Jones suddenly grabbed Superman in a firm chokehold from behind and the Martian's eyes glowed red as he placed his hands at the Man of Steel's temples.
"You must resist, Kal-El," Jones urged. "Resist the spell or the Lex Luthors will accomplish exactly what they want."
Snarling, Superman elbowed Jones in the abdomen, forcing the Martian to let go of him. Whirling around, Superman threw a punch at Jones' face, but Jones caught Superman's fist and head-butted him in the face, staggering Superman's head back. Jones then punched Superman in the chest, sending him flying off.
Lois-64 flew to Superman and delivered a punch to his face, sending him crashing on the ground. Superman got back to his feet, only for Jones to descend behind him and firmly grab Superman around the arms, restraining the Man of Steel, who struggled in an attempt to get free. As Lois-64 flew down towards him, Superman blasted her in the chest with his heat vision and the beam sent Lois-64 flying back before she landed on the ground.
As Jones continued to hold Superman in place, Alexander flew towards them, held his arms out towards Superman's face, and unleashed a stream of green kryptonite gas from his gauntlets. Superman grunted as quite a bit of the gas entered his lungs before he started feeling dizzy and ill while his vision blurred.
Lois-64 flew over and delivered a hard punch to Superman's head, making him groan in pain as the blow marked his cheek with a bruise. She punched Superman in the face a few more times, dazing him, while Alexander fired five green kryptonite blasts at Superman's torso, weakening the Man of Steel.
Roaring angrily, Superman suddenly spun around like a tornado at full speed and the force of the Man of Steel's movements threw Jones to the ground as the former managed to free himself from the latter's hold.
Alexander raised his gauntlets, preparing to unleash another kryptonite energy blast, only for Superman to suddenly grab his wrists and squeeze the gauntlets, crushing them. Alexander tried to free his wrists from Superman's grip, but the Man of Steel wouldn't let go.
Lois-64 flew at Superman and punched him in the jaw, staggering him back as he inadvertently released Alexander, who managed to steady himself in mid-air. Lois-64 delivered two punches to Superman's face and threw a third punch, which Superman dodged. Superman grabbed Lois-64 by her arm and tossed her on the ground, where she landed hard as the impact dazed her.
John Jones rammed into Superman, sending him crashing to the ground. As Superman tried to get back up, he suddenly clutched his chest and groaned in pain as the kryptonite gas that had entered his body finally started taking effect. He looked around, his vision once more blurring.
Jones flew down to Superman and delivered a hard punch to the Man of Steel's face, knocking him out at last. The Martian Manhunter of Earth-21 turned to Alexander and Lois-64, who looked down at the unconscious Superman.
"So that's it," Lois-64 said. "We won."
"Yes," Jones confirmed. "If what the Dr. Fates said is true, the Lex Luthors' brainwashing spell will be gone from his mind when he comes to."
"Good to know," Alexander said. "But on the off-chance that the Fates are wrong, we shall keep an eye on our unconscious opponent until he wakes up and make sure that his mind is, in fact, back to normal."
"Of course," Jones nodded in agreement.
