A/N: Hey! Sorry I have not posted in a while. I've been dealing with some health stuff. I'm fine. I've been writing. Just haven't had teh chance to post. So here is part 8. enjoy.
Part 8
An hour passed since Hawks left. Tsu still hadn't called Aizawa. Dark Shadow stayed in Tokoyami's place. "This is so much."
"I'm glad Hawks is gone. He has caused too much pain." Dark Shadow growled.
"What pain, Dark Shadow?"
"He didn't care about Fumikage. If he had, he would have checked on Fumikage after the raid. He was unconscious. We thought Hawks was going to die. Fumikage was so worried."
"I should call Aizawa."
"Why? So Fumikage can be hurt and lied to by Hawks? It's better he stays away."
"But you are not letting his body rest. Fumikage needs to sleep. You trust Aizawa, right?"
"Aizawa has the witch involved. He will only include her and her poor judgment."
Tsu thought for a moment. "Do you mean his parents?"
"His parents only cause pain as well. I will not let Fumikage hold in all his anger anymore."
"I know they made a mistake, but I'm sure they didn't mean it."
"The witch could hear me. She knew I was real. She knew Fumikage wasn't lying. Yet, she still sent him in to be electrocuted."
"That doesn't make sense. Why would his mom purposefully send him to be electrocuted?"
"Because she disapproved of Fumikage. She hates the way he portrays himself; so much darkness. She doesn't like it. She wants him to be normal. I was quiet throughout that. I didn't protect Fumikage. I will not do that again."
Dark Shadow stared at Tsu. Tsu wasn't sure how to respond. Dark Shadow was serious. She had never felt such conviction from the quirk. With that conviction, a wave of clarity hit Tsu. "You can switch back, can't you Dark Shadow?"
Dark Shadow growled. "You understand nothing."
"Ribbit! You told Aizawa and me that you couldn't. You didn't argue."
"I will not stand by again while Fumikage is hurt! That witch will only try to change him!"
"What does she not like about her son?" Tsu asked. She carefully took out her phone and typed under a blanket. She didn't want to set Dark Shadow off. But she needed Aizawa's help.
To Aizawa: Please come. Dark Shadow came in after Hawks came. Hawks said he loved Tokoyami and then Dark Shadow took his place. I think Dark Shadow knows how to switch back. He really doesn't like Tokoyami's mom.
She sent the message.
"She hates that Fumikage isn't normal."
"Dark Shadow, you should switch back to Fumikage," Tsu said. She wasn't going to get anymore information out of the quirk. Perhaps, with rest, Fumikage would be more willing to talk about this matter.
"Not while there are still threats."
"The threat is gone. Fumikage needs to rest. You need to think about his body. He will die if he doesn't rest."
Dark Shadow hummed. "He won't rest, even if I'm not here."
"Could we please try?"
"Why are you so concerned for Fumikage?"
That caught Tsu off guard. Was Dark Shadow questioning her? "Do you not trust me, Dark Shadow?"
Dark Shadow shook its head. "We trust you. I'm not used to sharing care for Fumikage. No one else has cared. It's… different."
"Ribbit. I hope that is good."
"Fumikage needs rest. I'll bring him back. You should sit close."
"I can bring my wheelchair over," Tsu said.
"No. You should be here, beside him." Dark Shadow patted the space beside him in the bed.
Tsu gulped. "Dark Shadow, that's awfully close. You are basically asking me to share a bed with him."
"If you want him to rest, you will do it."
Tsu felt small as Dark Shadow's glowing yellow eyes stared her down. She nodded. Fumikage needed to sleep. She wasn't going to question Dark Shadow. He was being agreeable. Fumikage would come back and hopefully sleep. He would also hopefully be comfortable. She slowly walked towards the bed. Dark Shadow scooted towards the side. She climbed up and sat. Her entire left side was pressed against Fumikage's right.
Dark Shadow smiled and closed its eyes. "I will bring him back."
Tokoyami was becoming accustomed to the darkness. He was alone, but somehow relieved. He couldn't look at Hawks. He had been weak. Though he wasn't sure if they were real, he felt tears on his face. He knew he at least wanted to cry.
It was beyond merciful that Hawks had come to visit. Being away and in the dark, Tokoyami could start to recognize the pain in Hawks' eyes. Did Hawks feel guilty for his own condition? Perhaps it was out of mercy. He did look awful. Hawks did say he needed to apologize. That was the more honorable thing to do. Perhaps they both felt they had failed.
As he wiped the tears from his eyes, Tokoyami silently thanked Dark Shadow. Even when he wasn't right there, he knew when he was needed. He still had connection to his quirk.
Just as he was settling into the abyss, Tokoyami felt a large jerk. His eyes were suddenly blinded by the lights of the hospital room. He could feel his body shaking, stumbling to find his footing.
"Fumikage, it's okay." Someone took his hand.
He turned to see Tsu, much closer than he expected, yet he was relieved. He was out of the darkness. He squeezed her hand back. "Thank you, Tsu."
"Ribbit." Tsu was growing red. She was lying right next to Tokoyami. "Dark Shadow said he could switch you back."
"I'm grateful. He knew I wasn't ready to face Hawks. I feel cowardly for running."
"I don't think you are cowardly, though things got awkward when Dark Shadow took over."
"Was Dark Shadow rude?" Tokoyami tensed as he asked the question. He knew his quirk wasn't always one to follow proper rules of etiquette.
Tsu shook her head. "It was just a weird situation. I will tell you more, but you should rest."
Tokoyami's body jolted at that. "I don't want to sleep."
"You need sleep," Tsu said. "It's important. It's why I'm here, beside you."
Tokoyami took a better look at the position they were in. Tsu was in his bed. The tiny bed barely had enough space for both of them. Tokoyami wasn't bothered by this. He was actually slightly relieved. "I appreciate your concern. I'm not sure if I can really sleep."
"That's what Dark Shadow said. That's why I'm so close, ribbit."
Tokoyami smirked and leaned against the bed. "Dark Shadow often comforted me as a child by sleeping beside me. It was easy since he could always hide under the blankets. It made many scary nights less scary."
Tsu nodded. She was understanding why Dark Shadow had asked her to be here. The quirk couldn't comfort Tokoyami, but she could. "I'm fine staying here." She blushed as she spoke, but didn't move.
Tokoyami turned his head towards her. "You don't find it strange?"
"My younger siblings have both slept with me when they are worried or scared. It makes sense if you feel that way. You had some terrible experiences recently."
"That's an understatement," Tokoyami mumbled.
"Please sleep, Fumikage. It will help me worry less, too."
Tsu's dark eyes locked with his red. She didn't realize it at first, but her eyes were watering. Her vision of Tokoyami blurred.
Tokoyami was almost stunned. Tsu was crying, because she was worried about him. As anxious as it made him, he knew that she was right. In all truth, he could not remember sleeping. He only remembered the darkness and being alone. Now that he knew what the abyss was, and had actually found relief, would sleeping be such a bad thing.
Tokoyami brought a hand to Tsu's face. He cringed at how black it was, especially compared to her skin. He certainly was not his previous self anymore. Would he ever get his hands back? He wiped the tear rolling down Tsu's cheek before pulling his hand away. He hummed. "I will try."
Tsu smiled. "I will stay right here."
Tokoyami gestured towards the TV. "Can you turn on the TV? It will help if it's not as quiet."
Tsu agreed. She used her tongue to grave the remote. She turned on the TV to a random channel. It was a soap opera styled program.
Tokoyami adjusted his head and sighed. He nestled his head into the pillow, beak straight in the air. He closed his eyes. He heard the dramatic music playing from the show. He felt Tsu's hand grab his own. Somehow, he was comfortable. And he wasn't going to change that. He took another deep breath, squeezed Tsu's hand, and fell asleep.
From Tsuyu Asui: Please come. Dark Shadow came in after Hawks came. Hawks said he loved Tokoyami and then Dark Shadow took his place. I think Dark Shadow knows how to switch back. He really doesn't like Tokoyami's mom.
Aizawa frowned at the message on his phone. He and Mic we're standing outside the Tokoyami's apartment. He had so many feelings. When did Hawks arrive? Why did he have to say something so stupid? Was Dark Shadow listening to Asui? He gritted his teeth as he put his phone down. He needed to meet with the Tokoyamis. After his latest conversation with Dark Shadow and Tokoyami, he was starting to wonder if their presence was only adding to the problem. He'd deal with whatever happened with Hawks later.
A hand gripped his shoulder. "Sho… you really think it's good to meet with these people?" Mic always knew how to read Aizawa. He couldn't hide any emotion from the man. That wasn't a bad thing.
"It's a necessity at this point," Aizawa said. He knocked on the door.
Fuhimito answered the door. Himito peered from around her husband. "Mr. Aizawa, hello. Do you have news on Fumikage?"
"He is currently fine. They have given him a prosthetic for his beak. He is recovering as we speak," Aizawa said.
Fuhimito relayed the information to his wife. She looked relieved when she received the news.
"Thank you, Aizawa," Fuhimito said. "It's a relief to know our son is in great hands in such a difficult situation."
"This isn't your first difficult time with Fumikage," Aizawa replied. "I'd actually like to speak to you about Fumikage's earlier days. Specifically, his times before Dark Shadow was able to emit."
Fuhimito's face paled. "Those are dark times for our family."
"And they are causing problems with Fumikage's recovery," said Present Mic. "He has so many fears, and Dark Shadow is so protective."
Fuhimito sighed. He moved aside. "Please come in and sit."
The two instructors made their way to the apartment. They sat down in the living room around a coffee table. Once everyone was settled, Fuhimito spoke.
"What do you want to know?" He asked, interpreting his question bfor his wife.
"To be blunt, what lead to the electroshock therapy?" Aizawa asked.
First Fuhimito flinched, then Himito flinched a moment after. It was clearly a sore subject, but one that needed conversation.
"Did Dark Shadow share this with you?" Fuhimito asked.
"Yes, Dark Shadow did and Fumikage confirmed," Aizawa nodded.
"We are not here to judge your past decisions," Present Mic added.
The parents both appeared disheartened. It took a moment for Fuhimito to find the words. "The moment Fumikage was born, we knew there was something different about him. As an infant, we would hear him laugh at nothing. He would reach for something that wasn't there. There was an invisible interaction we couldn't see."
He looked to his wife for more words. Her hands flew and he spoke at an equal speed. "Once Fumikage started to speak, he was often talking about this imaginary friend, Dark Shadow. What made it so strange was that we never directly taught him the words dark and shadow. Yet Dark Shadow was his first word. As a toddler we would hear him have conversations with Dark Shadow, but nothing was there. We thought he just had a great imagination. Then as he got older, he began making demands on behalf of Dark Shadow. Claiming the house had too much light. We had to join the darkness to make Dark Shadow happy. It was quite terrifying to hear that coming from a three year old. We brought this up to the doctor. After a few brain scans, they said they could see the activity in Fumikage's brain. He really thought something was there. That was horrifying news to us. They tested him for psychic quirks in case he was reading someone's mind, but those tests were all failures. It seemed that our sweet child had a horrible mental disorder."
"Did that initiate electroshock therapy?" Aizawa asked.
"They tried so many other things. It was a year before we did the electrotherapy. We ended up sending him to an asylum for most of that. We visited him daily and learned what the doctors were trying. Doctors thought at first that he was acting on bird instincts, and perhaps trying to communicate with other birds. They tried treating him like a pet bird to see if it helped. They tried more psychic testing and none of that succeeded. They did temperature based therapy. The only thing left was electroshock therapy. We just wanted our little boy to be normal."
"And did Himito ever try to use her quirk on Fumikage? Did she ever hear Dark Shadow in her own way?"
Even Present Mic was shocked at Aizawa's question. "That's pretty accusatory, Shouta," he whispered.
Aizawa didn't respond. His face remain calm and serious.
Fuhimito slowly signed Aizawa's question. His face paled when he saw all the blood leave her face. His hands began to fly, seemingly to repeat the same signs. Tears filled Himito's eyes. Fuhimito's jaw slacked. Then anger filled his eyes. He stood up and moved away from his wife.
Crying, Himito was signing back. Fuhimito folded his arms, fighting back his own tears as he turned away from his wife.
"She knew Dark Shadow was there, didn't she?" Aizawa asked.
Fuhimito nodded his head. He wiped a tear from his eye with a fist. "I don't understand why she would do this to our son. She kept saying she hoped the therapy would make him normal. I feel completely fooled. No wonder Dark Shadow never trusted us. We hurt Fumikage when it was completely unnecessary."
"Dark Shadow shared that she knew. I just wanted confirmation. I think it would be best if, while we are still treating your son, that we keep you away from him. Let us heal this trauma before he get involved with this difficult family dynamics."
Fuhimito sighed and nodded his head. "You will do better by him."
"We will need you to stay here. Fumikage still cares about you both. There is always a possibility of villian retaliation. We would hate for you to be placed in harm's way as an attempt to recapture Fumikage."
"We will stay. It seems we have to sort out much of our marriage dynamics. We can't pretend nothing happened if we are here."
"Thank you. We will be leaving. Come on Mix." The two teachers bowed before standing and leaving the apartment.
"Next time you plan on unavailing a family's dark secret, could you warn me in advance? That was awkward." Mic grabbed the hair on his head as he spoke.
"It was a surprise to them as well." Aizawa was looking down at his phone as he spoke. He quickly typed out a message to Asui.
To Tsuyu Asui: I can't say I blame Dark Shadow for not liking Fumikage's mother. I am on my way to you. Have you managed to keep Dark Shadow calm? Did Hawks leave completely?
"You know we have to report this to Nezu, right?" Mic asked. "This whole situation has become so much."
"I'm prepared to have the school take full custody of Fumikage temporarily," Aizawa said. He typed on his phone. Mic's phone buzzed. "I emailed you the paperwork I already started for this. I had a feeling this could happen. I need you to add our conference to this documentation."
Mic scanned the paperwork. "We still need a parent signature at the bottom of this."
"Fuhimito Tokoyami seemed more than willing to cooperate. I'm sure he will sign it."
Mic sighed. "Again, a little more heads up would have been nice."
"Sorry, I got lost in getting the job done. I'll work on trying to voice my plans to you."
"Will you also try and get some more rest?" Mic asked.
Aizawa's phone buzzed.
From Tsuyu Asui: Hawks is gone. Dark Shadow switched to Tokoyami. Tokoyami is now asleep next to me.
Aizawa smiled. "Great job, Asui."
"Did you hear me?" Mic said.
Aizawa sighed. "Once I check back in with Asui, I will rest. Please just finish that paperwork so we can work independently from the Tokoyami's."
"Will do," Mic said as he wrapped his arm around Aizawa's shoulders. The two walked all the way to Fumikage and Tsuyu's hospital room.
As the sun began to set, a man covered in a dark robe in a single row boat paddled toward a light house in the sea.
Sirens filled the air. "Intruder alert!" An alarm announced to the tower.
Once the boat was close enough, the man in the boat jumped to the base of the light House. Knives were pulled out. Still cloaked he made his way to the top of the tower, before shattering the glass to enter.
Three guards open fired. A furry of bullets littered the air. The man did an acrobatic maneuver towards the three men. His skin began to melt in the air as he slashed at the guards. With in a matter of moments, the three guards dropped.
The main's face now melted into the blonde and blushing Toga Himiko. She walked over to a set of security cameras. "Get ready, Mr. Stainy. I'm coming to get you out."
