Summary: Kasumi and a very important rainy day.

Rain at five o'clock, coming in from the northeast. She had a little while longer 'til the showers would start, perhaps enough time to grab a quick bite to eat. Or maybe, if she was willing to take the detour, she could pull out the little surprise she'd been keeping in mind for the past few weeks…

Kasumi flipped up the collar of her jacket. She still had a few minutes to spare. First, there'd been the detour, a stop to pick up the real deal, sized and fitted exactly. Then the deli next door, for a sandwich and coffee, and a counter to sit at and watch the rain start. Kasumi missed Shizuku at her side, munching through salad. Rain always slid Shizuku in odd moods, sometimes melancholy, sometimes romantic, sometimes lonely, sometimes nostalgic for her idol days. Somehow, gray days and the patter of precipitation broke through Shizuku's constant planning to reveal the essence of the woman Kasumi cared so much about. Rainy days were special to both of them, rainy afternoons and evenings together, lights low, voices loving, decisions left to drift. Kasumi glanced at the window, raindrops racing down as the percussion against the glass lured her out to shout, to seize this moment, this hope. Her own reflection winked back at her, confident and certain this was the day. Kasumi tipped her fedora, checked her pocket for the weight of the box with one hand and grabbed her umbrella with the was a ritual. Shizuku's professional life was rituals…don't break the curtain, don't say good luck, no mirrors onstage, lead with the left foot…and Shizuku's off stage life had a certain regularity that spoke of careful planning. So Kasumi had planned this, hoping that by carrying that extra texture with her that Shizuku would understand how much this moment could mean to both of them. Opening the deli door, she put a palm up, feeling the chill of the rain. Surely Shizuku would be willing to warm her up after…

She looked for a bright pink poncho. As promised. Rinako couldn't get away, but she'd promised Kasumi tech support. Kasumi waved, got a nod in return, flicked on her wireless mic, and then kissed the air, remembering the first time she'd kissed Shizuku, in the rain, Shizuku's happy tears mixing with the rain. And then Kasumi started to sing, this rain pouring down hard enough to drive most people inside.

"I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feeling
I'm happy again
I'm laughing the clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love"

The dance came easily to Kasumi, her natural athleticism and native exuberance easily carrying her down the street. She'd switched tap shoes for something with grip, this wasn't a movie set after all and Kasumi might have adjust on the fly or run for it, if someone decided to ruin the romance of this rainy afternoon.

Exhilaration. Kasumi was warm, her blood pulsing against her skin as the rain tried its best to chill her. But no, inside, inside, like the song, she was ressonding the warmth of a sun, a blue eyed beauty who would smile at Kasumi and everything gloomy would flee. Spinning, umbrella held out, face up, Kasumi soaked in the moment, thinking what Shizuku would feel, how she would be taking the song and the moment and transferring that into what a kiss felt like, a happy goodbye for a moment of absorbing this overwhelming, explosive spontaneity. And so the feet moved, and the words came, and the water splashed everywhere. And Kasumi laughed, arms flung out again, ready to pull Shizuku in and never ever let her go.

Rushing water down a downspout. Kasumi spotted pink ahead of her. She'd picked the perfect street for showing off her Kasumin Kelly moves. Making a silly expression, she let rain and thoughts of love drench her, then leapt for the streetlamp, shouted "Kasumin loves Shizuku" and spun back to the pavement, but not to earth, because her mood was still floating, an arrow through the storm clouds, to where warmth blazed. Then both feet into the standing puddle, thank you waterproof, grippery kicks, bouncing and laughing, splashing, everywhere to bring color to anyone's gray day. Then there was a cough behind her and over her shoulder, Kasumi saw someone glowering. Tossing off a quick smile and air kiss, Kasumi winked in the direction of the camera watching her. And she'd mapped things out properly, this was the train station Shizuku was due to arrive at.

Hopping up the stairs, continuing to hum, Kasumi was surprised by a concerned shout.

"Kasumi! You're drenched."

Guess Shizuki's train was a little early.

Sweeping her umbrella out to the side, Kasumi made a deep bow. Shizuku stood there, on the platform, perfect in black pumps and a black trench coat, hair under a transparent rain bonnet, makeup perfect for a gray afternoon, blue eyes deep enough to dive into so Kasumi did, dropping her umbrella, wrapping her arms around Shizuku, laughing at the squeal of complaint.

"Kasumi!"

"Welcome home, Shizuko! Kasumin made you a music video."

"Kasumi did what?"

Kasumi held Shizuku's hands in hers, her lover's closeness keeping off the shivers, "I wanted to know how Shizuko feels so I danced in the rain." Both their phones vibrated, "There you go."

Shizuku pulled out her phone. A video message from Rina. A close up of Kasumi's winking face, followed by "I'm singing in the rain" as the camera pulled out and Kasumi began her grand adventure.

"That's why you're soaked."

'Yep."

"That's why you're happy?"

"Nope."

"Really?"

Kasumi loved how much nuance was in every syllable of Shizuku's trained speech, the flirtatious doubt, the invitation to amuse. Kasumi reached into her pocket.

"Kasumi is happy because I know every rainy day you think of me, and every sunny day, and every starry night, and Kasumin will be there for every weather and mood, you, the fabulously unique, completely irreproducible Osaka Shizuku have." Kasumi paused, flippin up the lid to show a gorgeous sapphire and platinum ring. "Marry me, Shizuku. Your pouts are the cutest"

Shizuku's eyes went wide, her hand flying up to cover her lips, tears raindrops on porcelain cheeks, "Pouts?"

"Well, Kasumin's the sunny, smiley one." Kasumi now was sure of her answer, hand on hip, impish grin glowing, "Now put on the ring and warm Kasumin up."

"I thought you were the sunny one." Shizuku sounded scoldy but Kasumi only heard love's teasing lightness.

And then Kasumi was in a rib crushing hug, Shizuku muttering "I love you I love I love you" so fast it was a hiss of escaping steam and then Shizuku's lips were pressing against Kasumi's and the ring box nearly dropped but Shizuku's lightning quick reflexes caught it, and Shizuku's warm hand, ring on her fourth finger was gently pressed against Kasumi's cheek, fingers stroking, blue eyes with an openness Kasumi had never seen before, perfect lips an explosion against hers and Kasumi was overwhelmed, wanting to run, shout, swing from a lamppost, but instead she pushed her weight down in to her grippy, kicky shoes, let the wave of Shizuku's joy crash into her, and answered with the tenderest of kisses, a small spark that set off light and fireworks that must be seen all over Chicago from the height of this El platform.

Breathless, bursting, Shizuku pulled back with a laugh, "You elate me."

"Elevate?" Kasumi wasn't sure she'd heard right, but they were on an "elevated" platform and Shizuku was really smart.

"Elate, exhilarate, intoxicate…I've never met anyone like you, Kasumi-chan."

That sounded right. "Good." Kasumi had Shizuku's hand firmly in hers, "Let me take you home."

Leaning in to her fiancee, Shizuku scooped up Kasumi's umbrella and started singing.

"Let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place
Come on with the rain, I've a smile on my face"

Time to duet.

A/N: I've been in a rainy mood so this was fun. Once again the first paragraph is an Idol Fanfic Heaven Fantastic Departure prompt, and some of my fellow writers suggested the Kasumi, Shizuku, umbrella trifecta.
