A/N : Hey everyone! Epifunny here!
This is my first fanfiction and I hope you like it. For each update, I will be suggesting a couple of songs that I think really remind me of the chapter. So go ahead and ENJOY!
P.S. I will update whenever I can cause I don't really have an updating schedule.
Disclaimer: The Mortal Instruments and all the characters belong to Cassandra Clare (this unfortunately includes Jace as well). I own everything else.

Song: What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

Clary POV

Clary sighed softly as she made her way out of Chemistry, Simon and Maia walking next to her. It was Friday, and all she could think about was going home and relaxing after a long week of school. But she still had Art and P.E. to get through. She wasn't worried about those two classes though. Surprisingly, Jace was slowly becoming less of a nuisance. In fact, she was starting to enjoy his company. He had seemed to understand that Art was the one thing she loved more than anything, and he respected that. He was even a good partner most of the time. As for, P.E. they had both come under a silent agreement and jogged together, with no words exchanged, every day.

It had been two weeks since she had joined Idris High and almost a month since she had moved to Alicante, and it was slowly starting to feel like home. A small graced her face as she remembered that she was finally seeing Luke that evening. Her mom and her were meeting him for dinner. Memories rushed through her head - Jonathan and her playing at Luke's farmhouse, while the adults sipped on their drinks and spoke among themselves, occasionally laughing at the children's antics. It all seemed so long ago.

While she would still get a few pangs of sadness here and there, she was slowly coming to terms with her father and brother's deaths. It had taken a while, but she could finally think about them without bursting into tears. She clung to the good memories, and her mother and her would talk and laugh about them quite often. It was quite the change, but one that she was happy and thankful to have.

By some miracle, the lunch line was pretty short, and she managed to get her pasta in less than five minutes. She was pleasantly surprised when she'd first had lunch at Idris High. The school lunch at her previous school had been just plain disgusting, and she'd almost always carried her own lunch. Idris High, on the other hand, had the most amazing food. The lunch was a full-on buffet, with everything ranging from salads to pasta and tacos to hummus. They even had a desert counter, and she could already she at least two different cakes, some pudding, a couple of ice cream flavors, and even chocolate covered strawberries!

Sitting down at her usual table, she sent her friends a small smile. At her previous school, she'd barely had any friends. Not because no one wanted to talk to her, but because the girls only spoke to her because they found her brother cute, and the boys just wanted to gawk at her bike and car. It was clear that they only wanted to know her because of her family's wealth and status.

She was in the middle of gossiping with Magnus, while trying to ignore Simon and Izzy making out because she was really enjoying her creamy pasta and was in no mood to see them playing tonsil tennis barf her lunch out, when she saw someone sitting down on her other side from the corner of her eye. She turned to see who it was, and almost chocked when she saw Jace. Alec and him always sat with the jocks and cheerleaders, so she shocked to see them at their table.

She let out a small snort when she saw Alec smack the top Simon's head with a scowl on his face, causing the couple to break apart. Izzy started arguing with her, while Simon sat quietly, looking adorable in his graphic t-shirt with a large pout on his face, his glasses crooked from kissing. Turning back to Jace, she looked at him with a questioning look, wishing for probably the millionth time in her life that she could lift a single eyebrow. But alas, the gods decided to be mean and refused to bestow the tiny redhead with her little wish. So rude.

Jace smiled at her, and her heart skipped a beat at how beautiful he looked doing so. Then she returned to her senses and her eyes widened. He smiled. He actually smiled. She didn't think she had ever seen in smile in the one month she had known him.

"Hey."

Aaaand, she was lost again. She could have died from the sheer attractiveness this man gave off. Well, I hope I don't. I'm too young for that.

"...hi?"

Clary didn't why she was being so hesitant, but seeing Jace actually smile and be friendly confused her. A lot. Like, a lot lot.

"So, I was wondering if you wanted to partner up for the Drama project next week?"

He was still smiling, and Clary almost missed what he said, but nodded her head anyway. He looked angelic, and she knew for sure that couldn't deny him anything at that moment. Hell, he could've asked her to start singing(something she was absolutely horrendous at, by the way) in the middle of the cafeteria, and she would have readily done it. Anything to please the god's-gift-to-women sitting right next to her. He was so close that she could smell his minty cologne and the leather from his jacket.

"Great, we'll meet at my place then. Is tomorrow good?"

Clary absent mindedly nodded again. She was too busy admiring his bright, honey-colored eyes and his perfect white teeth with a chip in one of incisors. She'd never noticed that before, but it somehow just made him more attractive. Darn him and his unfairly good looks.

"Okay then. See you in class Clary."

That made her break out of her trance. Did he just call her by her name? It felt... nice. Sure, it was weird coming out his mouth for the first time, but she couldn't help the butterflies that were fluttering, no - battering, in her stomach.

It was only then she remembered - he wanted to pair up for the drama project. Meaning the project where they had to break down a romantic scene from any of Shakespeare's stories and enact it in a modernized way.

Holy snickerdoodles with a side of flying rats! She was going to have to enact a romantic scene with Jace. With Jace.

And I said yes! Well, more like nodded yes, but same thing.

Great.

Just freaking great.

Maybe death wouldn't be so far after all.

Clary POV

Art was... normal. Seb kept trying to talk to her as usual, which was starting to get really annoying, especially when she was busy working on Jace's portrait. Not by choice, of course.

Madame Dorothea had told them to work on a portrait and photo album. The portrait had to be made on one partner number 1 by partner number 2, and the photo album had to be based off partner number 2 by partner number 1.

Yeah, you should probably read that again to make sure you didn't get confused. And again. And again. Once more. Maybe one last time?

Clear now? Good. Let's move on.

Clary had decided to work on the portrait, seeing as Jace had absolutely no artistic talent whatsoever. Plus, he claimed to be good at photography, so really, it was a win-win.

He claimed to have a few photo ready, but Clary didn't believe him, especially since he hadn't even shown her a single one yet. So, quite obviously, she refused to show him her drawing, no matter how much he whined and begged.

For some reason, she had drawn him shirtless, and with wings. Yep, that's right. Shirtless. With wings. Her drawing was extremely detailed, each feather on his wings sketched to perfection, yet there was no color on it whatsoever. She only planned on shading his eyes and hair and stunning shade of golden, but other than that, she decided to leave it at that. Sometimes, there is beauty in simplicity.

During P.E. they were jogging, again. Simon kept whining about it, but Clary was completely enjoying herself. Jace even brought his Airpods along, and they listened to his music while jogging.

It was surprisingly enjoying, and Clary secretly liked the fact - though she kept denying it - that they shared a similar taste in music. MCR, 21 pilots and Imagine Dragons all the way, baby!

She was back home now, trying to decide between some overalls that were covered in paint, but still looked kinda cute, and a pair of baggy jeans that were ripped at the knees and clinched at the ankles. After some debating, she decided on the overalls. They were way more comfortable, and it was Uncle Luke anyway. He'd seen her in way worse.

After pairing the overalls with a blue crop top, she pulled her hair into a messy bun and put on a pair of black sneakers. She had white ones that would look way better, but no way in hell was she going to wear white shoes at a farmhouse. Nuh uh. She'd learned her lesson before. Those shoes were never clean again.

"Clare, you ready?" She heard her mom calling from downstairs.

"Yeah, I'm coming!"

Grabbing her phone, she quickly ran down the stairs.

The drive to the farmhouse was quiet. It was a little awkward, but Clary didn't mind. Her mother and her were still learning to get comfortable with each other after being distant for so long. They were both still healing, and she didn't mind that sometimes it would be uncomfortable. Like they say, trust the process. She simply enjoyed the cold breeze, and the beauty of the small town.

The car came to a stop outside a large house, with fairy lights hung around the porch, and a small swing to the right of the front door. And on it was sitting a middle-aged man wearing a red flannel shirt and dark blue jeans. His brown hair was unruly, and square spectacles sat on the bridge on his nose. The fairy lights cause shadows to dance across his face, and Clary could see a kind, soft smile grace his face.

With an excited squeal she jumped out of the car, and straight into his arms. The raggedly handsome looking man got up from the swing to hold the midget of a girl in his arms, his chest rumbling with his loud and friendly laughter. He twirled the redhead around, while she squealed again and squeezed her arms around him tighter.

"Uncle Luke! I missed you so much!"

He laughed again and put her down, so that her tiny feet touched the ground again.

"I missed you too, sweet girl. Look at you, all grown up and pretty! You look just like your mother." He laid a sweet kiss on her forehead.

He then turned towards Jocelyn. The two gazed deeply into each others eyes, with a look that Clary could not quite comprehend, before pulling each other into a tight hug. They held on for quite a long time, and seemed to be having a conversation, but Clary couldn't hear a thing. She didn't interfere though, and let them have their moment. Finally, after more than a minute, they broke apart and Luke gave Jocelyn a small nod.

"Alright then kiddo. Let's head inside. Amatis has made her famous roast, and she would kill us if we let it get cold. You know how crazy that woman is." He said, with a small eye roll.

Ready to spend time with her favorite people, Clary happily entered the house, with a large grin etched onto her face that would not leave for the rest of the evening.

Hey guys! Long time. So um, a lot has happened in these past few months. I've been having exams upon exams, and a lot of school and extra classes. The stress from Covid, online classes, exams and just life in general caught up, and it reached a point where I couldn't take it anymore. I've been having anxiety attacks and my mental health was really bad. It caused a writer's block and just stopped me from enjoying the things that I would usually love. However, I have been working on myself, along with constant support from my family friends. It is not easy, but I am healing. I'm learning to love and accept myself. It's a long road, but I already feel so much better and confident about myself. I love you all so much. Muah.
