Alicia
The Doctor was hissing, I was almost screaming in pain and Martha was watching as the Doctor ran around the controls trying to get us to Omaria as quickly as possible.
The pain was intense and unpredictable. It would move from one area to the next, sometimes it was in a ring, sometimes a wave but it was always the same wrist. It was probably seconds before we arrived but it felt like forever. I was thankful when the Doctor told Martha to stay behind.
"I turned off the screen and locked it" He said behind gritted teeth when we left. The Amorans were waiting for us again, just our luck that they're telepaths. I think they were a bit shocked at how much pain we were in. They took us inside, I have no idea what they did but it dulled the pain enough so that I could lay my hand in my lap without crying out.
"What is going on." I tried to be polite but it came out as more of a growl.
"You are beginning to enter the primary stages of the telepathic links."
"Great, exactly what I wanted to know." I felt irritable, like the last time I was here except that I wasn't angry this time. This time I seemed to feel that my Doctor was in pain.
"You are getting the right idea. It is similar to allegiance except some of the symptoms will change or you may get new ones. It will be easier to tell when the other person is in danger now. As for the telepathic side of it both of you will feel when the other is in danger. You will feel pain, fear and other emotions associated with being in danger to give you a better ability to protect the other.
You will feel all of each others emotions.
You may want to live together for a while to get use to it."
"What! But I can't live with her on Earth. "
"And I can't just leave my family. Besides, I don't want to live in a box."
"It is not a box!. You can't even imagine how amazing it is. You haven't left the console room yet."
Our wrists started to burn again.
"Is there any way we can stop this burning at the very least."
Clman looked at our now raw arms. "Until you begin to get used to this situation that will keep happening. It will calm over time."
I put my head in my hands. "You mean until we stop shouting at each other and decide on some way of living with each other I'm going to have to live with an arm that looks like it's got moving third degree burns!"
The Amoran made a face only an Amoran can and simply stated "Yes."
"This is all your fault." I pushed open the door of the TARDIS.
"I didn't know this was going to happen." He whined.
"You didn't have to, you've basically kidnapped me!"
"We never said you had to live here."
"Well how are you going to stay at my home, sleep under the bed?""
"yes, well..."
"I want to go to bed. I'm guessing you have a spare bedroom in this thing" I glowered at him.
"Martha?" I'd forgotten Martha was there. She would definitely have questions.
"You can't even take me yourself. " I spat that last comment.
Martha
I followed the new girl down a long corridor. I didn't want to say anything at first.
"Sorry about that. I'm Alicia by the way." She talked like nothing had happened. A moment ago she was yelling at the Doctor, now she's talking to me like a civilised person, if walking a little to fast to be completely calm.
"Martha." I muttered.
I opened a door for her that said Alicia on it and she gasped. She spent the next few minutes looking around her new room. It was very nice. Nicer than mine. I'd been wondering who this room was for...
"I sleep just down the corridor. We're far from the control room but at least we don't have to listen to any banging and the swimming pools close." I started trying to make easy conversation.
"He has a swimming pool?" she snorted.
Then I saw her arm. Her sleeve had slipped when she touched an ornament. It was no wonder it was hidden from me earlier.
"I might be able to help you with that if you want. I was training to be a doctor before this."
She smiled at the irony. I hadn't thought about that in months but it made me smile.
"That's funny." She tried to laugh but instead she winced. "It really hurts." She said looking back down at her arm. I started to look at the burns, they were shaped strangely and moved but perhaps I could try to cool them a little.
"Do you have any other injuries?" I asked, moving towards the small bathroom.
"That depends. "
"Depends on what?"
"On how long it's been since I saw the Doctor. " Alicia was talking like this was an everyday thing for her. Was it?
"What do you mean?" After all, why would an injury be based on a length of time since you'd seen someone? And what type of injuries?
"Why don't you have a look? It's only been about a week, but a lot happens in a week if you're me." Alicia sighed and removed her school shirt.
While I looked I asked "Why were you arguing when you came in?" I was trying not to be shocked at what I was looking at. Rashes I'd never seen before, moving burn marks? What else could be going on here?
"It's a really long story because I'd have to start at the beginning." Alicia went to the wardrobe and found another, softer top to put on.
"Where's the beginning?"
"When I was six." Alicia looked at me, probably expecting a bigger reaction but I'd learnt to stay calm in front of patients. That or I've gotten better at hiding my feelings while I've been with the Doctor.
"Huh, so what happened when you were six?"
"Nothing really, at least I didn't think so at the time. It was the first time I met the Doctor.
He came to find me. I had no idea who he was but when I met him he just said he was the Doctor and that he would be with me forever. Whoever I needed him to be he would be, whatever I needed he would get me and whenever I was he would find me. That's it. "
Alicia said this dreamily, I could see a sparkle of adoration in her eyes.
"He sort of stalked me for a few months. Then I had my first trip to Omaria"
I finished bandaging her arm and sat down on the bed beside her.
"He must have thought something was up, otherwise he wouldn't have taken me to see the Amorans."
"Who are the Amorans?" This is a very confusing story.
"They live on Omaria. They're blue and scaly. Anyway they were wearing these robes and I was given some too.
The Doctor and I were standing in this circle of stones and they asked us to say 'I pledge my allegiance to my Guandan. I was about seven."
"Guandan ?"
"Like Mate, other half, you know..."
I stopped just listening then. I can't believe what I'm hearing. I tried to continue my calm show.
"What does that mean? Did he marry you?"
"I'm still trying to work that one out to be honest. I think it's more complicated than that. Anyway, after we got back from Omaria I didn't talk to him for four years.
Then he turns up on my way home from seeing some friends one day, right behind me by the way. Don't get me wrong, I had no problem with that at all. Anyway, he claims he had a call from the Amorans and we go to find out what they want.
Really weird stuff starts happening, the weird stuff gets worse and here we are.
Now I think about it a lot of that should have been way more creepy than it felt." She looked down, probably embarrassed that she was okay with all of this.
"It sounds creepy to me. I'm beginning to think of him differently now."
"Yes, it's weird but he's not a paedophile. Trust me, he saved me from my own uncle when I was little. "
We sat in silence thinking. I sensed a bad history here, before the Doctor came into her life. If she felt it was better now it must've been worse before.
"And the injuries?"
"All perfectly normal. Horrible aren't they." Normal, for what?
"So what is it like?" I asked.
"You mean our relationship? Well neither of us had any idea what was going on and the Doctor let it slip that it was all an accident."
"That's one big accident."
"Yep, but I only found that out a few months ago so I don't really care. It's also when I first found out about the rules of allegiance and I was thinking, well doesn't an allegiance work both ways. I'm pretty sure the Doctor had no idea what he was talking about because that's when I had my first ride in this tin can." Martha laughed when I called it a tin can.
"The TARDIS is going to hate you. It's got a personality of it's own this ship."
"Since when did ships have their own personalities?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, okay so allegiance. This is where it gets embarrassing for both of us." I turned pink at what I was about to say. I could feel the Doctor knew something was up too.
"The Doctor and I are physically connected. It uh." Alicia looked at the door. I looked up as well.
The Doctor had turned up in the doorway.
"Do you have to go into that much detail?" He said.
Alicia turned from pink to red. He looked towards me and said quietly. "Some strange things happened and now some more strange things have happened. That's all you need to know."
Whatever happened to that poor girl I'm going to kill the Doctor if he doesn't give me a good reason not to. He does realise she's basically covered in burns and things. He does get that, right?
When Alicia got ready for bed I hunted the Doctor down. "What the hell have you done!"
The Doctor jumped and turned to face me.
"What have I done?" He actually looks surprised!
I pointed down the stairs with my other hand on my hip.
"There is a sixteen..."
"Thirteen."
"What?" The Doctor stands looking towards me with his arms crossed.
"She's thirteen. She's growing much faster both physically and mentally than normal for her age because of the allegience."
Still trying to recover from that revelation I stab my finger back towards Alicia's room.
"There is a thirteen year old teenager lying in your TARDIS covered in injuries. Not only that, she tells me it's your bloody fault! So how the hell did you get her to trust you so much when your the one who made her that ill in the first place!"
"I.." He sunk into a seat and slumped. His hands went deep into his hair.
"It's complicated."
"I'm going to need a better reason than that not to hit you right now." I am furious.
"Why does everyone I ask to come with me hit me?" He looked up.
"That's not a reason."
"Fine, yes it's my fault this started. No I did not mean for it to happen, I definitely did not mean to become engaged to a six year old; stop throwing that cushion around!"
I hurled the only loose seat cushion at him.
"Do you want to know or not?" He cried.
"Fine."
"Well other than that I know just as much as Alicia does anyway. It's impossible to be parted. There's no such thing as divorce where this comes from. Not that I'd want to. .."
Did he just imply what I thought he did!
I hit him with the seat cushion again. I know I'm going to be glaring at him for days.
Then he showed me his arm. There were the exact same marks as on Alicia's. I didn't realise that when Alicia said physically connected she meant it in more than one way.
"There's more. I expect she told you about allegiance. Well, it's definitely not a one sided Relationship. There are some things that are just a bit to intimate. Allegiance being one of them.
I'd die for her in a second Martha. You don't need to worry about that. and I would never harm even a single hair on her head."
I calmed down a little bit. Only a little bit.
"Now will you put that seat cushion down?"
I put it back where it belonged knowing I wouldn't get any more out of him until I did. "So now what?"
"Now Alicia and I have to find a way to live with each other or these burns will never go away."
