It's James Potter's birthday, so what better way to celebrate than to finally add an exciting update to this fic?
Final's week approached surprisingly fast, and it was a relief to not have classes all day, every day. Instead, Lily just had to take five three-hour long exams over the course of a week. It could have been worse.
James had picked her up from campus after he finished work and driven her back to his place to hang out before the pub quiz. Lily had her biology review book open, idly flipping through the pages in a half-hearted attempt at some last-minute studying.
She glanced over at James who was lying on the bed next to her, observing her internal struggle to focus on her book with mild interest. But how on Earth was she supposed to focus when everything that had happened on this bed had happened. James was obviously thinking along the same lines that she was, if the dark look in his eye was anything to go by.
"I'll be right back," James said before he slid off the end of the bed and left the room, a suspicious amount of bounce in his step for someone going to grab an innocent bottle of juice.
As nervous as his reasons for leaving made Lily, at least she was able to concentrate on the cell division chapter of her review book. She settled into the pillow, and pulled her feet up closer to her body, so her knees were raised and she could prop the book against her thighs.
Lily was so focused on her review that she didn't notice James reenter the room until he flopped down between her legs, resting his head on her stomach.
Lily smiled down at him, willing her body to not react to his presence. She held the book closer to her face to eliminate any distractions. If she could just finish this chapter, she would be somewhat satisfied by her studying for the day.
James trailed a hand down her thigh, causing her to gasp.
She immediately clamped her mouth shut. She was supposed to be studying. She had to possess at least that much willpower, right? She shot his innocent, smiling face a glare. "I'm trying to read."
"You know, these were the panties you were wearing the first night we slept together." He pulled them off her legs gingerly, ghosting his fingers along her skin as he did so – in a way that he knew made her riled up.
Lily ignored him, though any semblance of self-restraint was quickly leaving. With a sigh, she set her book down across her chest, still open in the naïve belief she would be returning to it at any point this evening. James had pushed the skirt of her dress up to her hips, and he looked more than ready to go to town.
He kissed along her thighs, before working his tongue along her folds, and sucking at her clit. The sight of him absolutely intent on eating her out was one of the hottest things Lily had ever seen. She worked one of her hands into his ever messy hair.
James lifted his head, causing Lily to whimper at the sudden lack of stimulation. He replaced his tongue with his long fingers and licked his lips. "You're supposed to be reading." With his other hand, he reached up and tapped the book.
"You've got to be kidding," Lily breathed, not able to make her voice sound more solid.
James shook his head and waited until she picked up the book before he lowered his head and resumed his work.
He glanced up again and caught Lily watching, rather than focusing on her book, so he flipped her skirt back down, covering his head in the process. If anything, it made the scene hotter to know what he was doing, just out of sight.
It didn't take long for Lily to cum - James' tongue was quite skilled after all – and when she did, she dropped the book onto her face, causing her high to be slightly less enjoyable than usual.
James waited for her to sit up before giving her a chaste kiss. He sprung off the bed and out the door. "C'mon, we're going to be late!"
"James!"
He poked his head around the door, "Yes, my dear?"
"I'm literally dripping."
"I know." Why did he have to look so smug about the whole thing? "I tried to clean you up," he licked his lips again, "but it just kept coming." He walked over to the bathroom. "There's a towel in here." He leaned in the doorway, holding the towel, staring at her with an infuriating smirk.
"If I stand up, it's just going to run down my legs and make even more of a mess."
"I'd love to see it."
"James…" Lily couldn't help but whine.
"No, seriously. Seeing you that wet would literally make my year. I would have no choice but to miss trivia and fuck you literally all night." James didn't break eye contact while he spoke. He tossed the towel across the room at her. "Unfortunately, we can't miss trivia."
Lily picked up the towel and did her best to clean herself off. She really would prefer to just take a shower, but James would veto that suggestion before it even left her mouth. "Why not?" she asked, spreading her legs and making sure to give him a good look.
James shoved his hands into his pockets in an effort to restrain himself. "It would be suspicious."
Lily stood up and threw the towel back to him, which he caught effortlessly. "What will be suspicious is when the two of us show up together, smelling like sex."
"Precisely why you are going to wait five minutes after I enter for yourself to enter." He grabbed her hand and led her out of the house and to his car. He opened the door for her before settling into the driver's seat.
James didn't take his hand off her thigh for the entire drive. After parking, he gave her a teasing kiss and sprung out of the car to hustle down the street.
Lily sighed pulling out her phone to waste away the next few minutes. She adjusted her legs to get more comfortable and realized she still wasn't wearing her panties. She got out of the car, dialed James's number, and slammed the car door behind her while the phone rang.
"What's up?" James asked.
"Where are my underwear?" Lily hissed, trying not to be heard as she walked down the street.
"Relax, I took care of it." James said, well aware all of their friends were listening in on his half of the conversation, even if they were pretending they weren't.
"Obviously. Give them back."
"No." James seemed a little too happy about that.
"James!"
He didn't respond.
"What if there's a gust of wind? How would you like it if Sirius saw everything?"
"You make a good point. Let's meet up and take care of it. Would Monday work?"
"No, now works." She hung up the phone as she walked into the bar.
She made a beeline for the table, slapping James across the back of the head as she wandered to her usual spot. Her chair was missing so she just leaned forward onto the table. James's eyes flickered between her stony expression, her chest which looked much better than okay in this dress, and the hem of the skirt which didn't fall very far down her leg.
"You look nice," Mary said.
"You look like you just had a quickie," Marlene commented, arching her eyebrow.
Lily gave Marlene finger guns. "Nailed it, Marls."
"When do I get to meet this guy?" she asked.
"I don't know. We're kind of having a fight right now."
"I'm…" James started and trailed off when Lily glared at him. He tried again. "I'm sure you two can work things out."
"Hmph. Where's my chair?"
"It's broken," Remus chimed in, pointing to the corner where a chair sat, partially deconstructed and certainly not useable.
"There's not a spare chair," Sirius said, somewhat unnecessarily since Lily had just scanned the room herself. "You have no choice but to sit on my lap."
"That's not true," James said, a little bit louder than was necessary.
Lily raised an eyebrow at him and sat on Sirius' knee. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her fully onto his lap. "Sleaze," she muttered.
"You know, this could be even better with a few less layers between us."
"Consider it done," Lily responded, aiming a pointed look at James, who currently looked like a volcano a few thousand years past its eruption date. If it was a little quieter in the bar, they all would have been able to hear his teeth grinding together.
Lily waited a few minutes, before the thought of spending the night on Sirius's lap grew to a disturbing level. She managed to remove herself from Sirius's arms and wandered over to the bar to get a drink. She was waiting at the end of the bar when James slid neatly into the space between her and the next person.
"Are you seriously going to spend the entire night on Sirius after what we just did?"
Lily shrugged, trying to seem nonchalant, despite very much not wanting to be anywhere near Sirius for a long time. "Do I have another option?"
James pushed her around the corner to where the bathrooms were and up against the wall. He grabbed her wrists and pinned them above her head, before taking her lips up in his with a concerning amount of passion for the hallway outside of a public restroom.
He pulled away and stared down at her, watching her lips part, and her chest heave, and – James was proud to admit – her knees wobble the tiniest amount.
"Yeah. Yeah, you have another option."
He dropped her hands, intending to go pick up their drinks, but turned to find Remus staring at the two of them.
Remus opened his mouth and closed it again. Then put his hands over his eyes and turned around to walk away. James lunged forward to pull him back into the privacy of the hallway.
"You can't say anything!" James yelled. Someone at the bar backed up a few steps and peered down the hallway at the three of them for a moment, before slowly moving back out of view.
Remus raised an eyebrow. "I haven't said anything for three months."
"You knew?" Lily yelled, then corrected herself at a more appropriate volume. Wouldn't want to disturb any more bar patrons during this conversation.
"Uh, yeah, you guys aren't exactly the most subtle. Anyway, are you dating? Or just hooking up?"
James looked at Lily and she looked back helplessly. They hadn't exactly had that conversation yet.
"Well, uh," Lily started. "Wait, does anyone else know?"
"I don't think so." Remus looked extremely uncomfortable, shifting his weight from foot to foot as if he was about to take off.
"How did you find out?" James asked.
"That day we were making cookies. You two were acting so in love, it was disgusting." Remus made the face to match. "Anyway, I'm going to go now." He gestured behind him and walked away as fast as he could.
The two of them turned to look at each other, neither wanting to make the situation any more awkward than it was already.
James cleared his throat. "We can talk more later if you want, but for now you are not going to be sitting anywhere near Sirius for the rest of the night."
"Oh, thank God."
James nodded and went back to the bar to pick up their drinks. Lily followed behind, feeling incredibly out of place. Remus knew, and that thought caused her a lot of worry about how her relationship with James would change as a result. She would be down for more, but that would involve a conversation Lily was dreading an extreme amount, even if there was a strong possibility for it to turn out well for them.
James put the glasses on the table and sat down, leaving Lily standing awkwardly nearby, not really sure what he had in mind.
"I brought you you're drink, so now you're going to sit on me," James said, loud enough for the table to hear.
"I'm not a prostitute, James," Lily said as she sat down on his thigh.
"Hey!" Sirius leaned across the table wagging his finger at her. "Am I not a good enough chair?"
"I figure James is less likely to try to take me home with him after this is over," Lily said as she sipped at her drink, thankful she managed to keep a straight face.
"Doubtful," James whispered in her ear.
"James is also less likely to get a boner from this situation," Dorcas said, causing Marlene to break into laughter. No one else did though. Remus looked constipated, Sirius was obviously still trying to figure out what made James a better seat than himself, and Mary sighed deeply and rolled her eyes at Dorcas.
"Very, very doubtful," James murmured so only Lily could hear him.
Lily couldn't help the glance she shot down at James's lap.
"Did you just check?!" Marlene asked, still cackling.
Lily covered her now very red face with her hands.
The first round ended on a positive note for the group, making it to second place. It was always impressive for their team to be ranked at all during the night. They never ended up winning the free drinks that came with first place (albeit probably a good thing).
The rest of the group was talking amongst themselves while they waited for the next round to start, but Lily was content to just listen in. She was now seated much more solidly on James's lap, with his arms wrapped around her, unnecessarily holding her in place. She wasn't going anywhere.
Her phone started buzzing in James's pocket (He was very serious about the no phones rule during trivia and rightfully did not trust Lily). He disentangled his arms from around her and pulled out the phone to place it on the table in front of her. Lily looked at the number and made a noise of disgust in her throat.
"What's that for?" James asked, loud enough that Marlene and Remus on either side of them could hear.
"Don't worry about it, it's just my ex. He's been trying very hard to get in touch with me."
"Can I answer it?" James asked.
"No!"
"Wait, Lily," Dorcas brought herself into the conversation. "Is this the guy who was obsessed with you?"
"I wouldn't say obsessed."
"Seeing as he basically stalked you for two years after you guys broke up, I'd say he was pretty damn obsessed," Marlene commented.
James pulled her closer to his chest. "Block his number! When did this start?"
"I tried!" Lily protested before lowering her voice. "It started again the night after we made those cookies."
Remus straightened up beside her and reached over to grab the phone off the table. Lily lunged for his arm, and missed, something that she would blame on James's grasp on her. Remus leaned out of reach at a comical angle and answered.
"Lily's phone, Remus speaking."
Lily could hear an angry garbled voice over the speaker and groaned.
"Who is this? Severus Snape? Are you sure you're a friend of Lily's? Because I've met most of them."
A pause.
"Sorry, I believe you're mistaken. Lily would never be friends with someone who has such severe anger issues." Remus was smiling. Smiling. That was uncalled for. "Okay, sure you are. Carry on. Can I take a message?" Remus held the phone away from his ear as the voice continued to tumble out. He mimed vomiting into Sirius's lap, which made Lily crack a smile.
"Well, unfortunately Lily can't come to the phone now. Hey! Stop being a greasy git!"
Lily actually laughed at this and quickly covered her mouth with her hand. She figured Remus was just trying to piss Severus off, but that insult was perfection.
"Well, we have that in common for sure then, seeing as neither of us are dating Lily Evans."
Remus held the phone away from his ear. "This guy just told me that Lily is too good to date me. Not sure why he's worried about me when Sirius is right there but…"
"Why can't Lily come to the phone right now? Well, we are at a bar with some of our friends. She went to the bathroom about 15 minutes ago and is yet to come back. And…" Remus craned his neck to look over to the bar, "yeah, the bartenders gone too. What a surprise. You know this guy played football and boxed in college. He's jacked as fuck. Straight up could take anyone out with one punch. Anyway… anything else I can do to help you?" Remus glanced hurriedly around the table. "His name is James, I think. Could be Justin. Definitely not John. Probably. Anyway, I am growing bored of this conversation, you're not very interesting, so bye." Remus hung up while Severus was still talking.
He nodded at Lily, who wore an expression somewhere between horror and hilarity. "I either just solved the problem or made something I accidentally started much worse."
He handed the phone back to Lily, who frowned. "How could that be your fault? You don't even know the guy."
"Well," Remus lowered his voice so only Lily and James could hear. The next round had started, and the intrigue caused by the one-sided conversation had faded from the minds of their other friends. "I may or may not have posted a video of you two dancing in the kitchen on your "Friends from Home" Snapchat story. Anyway, I correctly deduced that he had seen it somehow, seeing as he described our dear James here as both unattractive and taking advantage of a girl who 'obviously doesn't know any better.' Anyway, either he's now afraid of the jacked guy you're hooking up with," Remus acknowledged James with a nod, "or he's going to stalk you two for a duel of honor. In which case I suggest a restraining order and/or James's grandpa's shotgun, which is kept in the box on top of the old refrigerator in his garage. Up to you really."
At Lily's bemused expression, Remus smiled and took a sip of his drink, turning to face the front where the quiz questions were being broadcasted.
James pulled Lily closer to his chest. "I'd fight a duel for your honor," he whispered in her ear.
Lily smiled to herself and leaned back against James's chest. She shook her shoulders a bit to try to relax (and shake off the presence of Snape that had settled there in the last ten minutes).
James tried, and failed, to suppress a groan by burying his face in the back of Lily's neck. The vibrations from deep within his throat made Lily shiver. James had to bite his lip to keep from alerting all of their friends to his present situation.
Lily shifted her weight again as she leaned forward to pick up her drink and James couldn't handle it anymore. He pushed her off his lap with an "Up woman, I need to take a shit," and shoved his hands into his front pockets as soon as possible. Anything to try to hide his raging boner.
Lily settled back into the chair and took another sip of her drink, waiting what seemed like a reasonable amount of time before she followed James.
It didn't take long for Marlene and Dorcas to round on her.
"So, Lily," Marlene started.
Dorcas picked up the sentence. "You've been sitting on two attractive men's laps tonight, you are having, and I quote, 'the best sex of your life,' – "
Remus choked on his beer next to her.
" – and you have a psychotic ex-boyfriend who is head over heels obsessively infatuated with you far past the point of concern. Next thing you're going to tell me is that you're married."
"Well…" Lily started, draining her drink. "I'm not sleeping with the bartender, as Remus oh so succinctly shared, so I'm going for a refill." She stood up and twirled the glass around on the table, shooting a wink at Dorcas before she turned around.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Marlene asked. "Don't you have to drive back to campus in an hour?"
"All the more reason to get a refill," Lily winked.
Remus choked again, his face growing red from the spluttering.
"Don't you have an exam tomorrow?" Mary asked, now listening in on the conversation.
"Fuck biology," and with that, Lily wandered over towards the bar. She passed the queue for new drinks, heading toward the hallway where she assumed James was hiding out.
She walked down to the end and looked around, but James was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, two hands wrapped around her waist and jerked her backward. Lily's scream turned into a moan as James ground his hips against hers, the entire time trailing kisses across Lily's neck. He pulled her backward through a door that Lily hadn't noticed before.
As soon as the door was closed, he put an unyielding arm low across her hips, his hand clutching her so hard it would be sure to leave a bruise through her dress. James pushed her upper body forward, so she was bent at the waist, and she yelped, feeling out of control until her hands found purchase on some sort of metal rack.
James was unable to stop his hips from thrusting into her while his free hand roamed around her body. When he couldn't take it anymore, when he literally needed her right that second or his entire body would have no choice but to explode, he gave her ass an appreciative squeeze and undid the button of his jeans, his knuckles brushing against her folds as he did so. He was pleased to see them glistening with wet in the slight light that filtered under the door.
James wasted no time plunging into her, causing a shuddering groan to pass both of their lips. His eyes squeezed shut, as he thrust once, twice, his entire body screaming finally, finally.
Just as quickly he pulled out and jumped backward, leaving Lily to straighten up and turn around herself, and incredulous look on her face.
"I'm sorry, oh my God, Lily, I'm so sorry."
It took a minute for Lily's sex-addled brain to get what he was on about. "James, it's fine."
"No, it's not! That was such a douche move." He grabbed one of her hands, looking the most earnest Lily had ever seen him, still muttering apologies.
Lily couldn't help but laugh at the way he looked, profusely apologizing with his pants around his knees. She wasn't nearly as worried about this entire situation as he was. It wasn't like he had come in her or anything. Plus, she was on birth control which minimized the already minimal chance of her getting pregnant from that slipup.
She managed to stop laughing for long enough to place a soft kiss on his lips, cutting off his mumbling.
"Why are you being so cool about this?" he asked. "Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not complaining, once again, I am so sorry, and I understand if you never want to hookup again, but God Lily, you're not even my girlfriend, and – "
"Who says I'm not?" Lily asked. She immediately wanted to take the words back, but it was too late, and it wasn't as though the two of them weren't drifting in that direction anyway. The topic was going to come up eventually anyway and now was a good of time as any.
" – there's no excuse. Wait, what?" A dozen different expressions flitted across James's face from confused to hopeful to something akin to constipation.
Lily started to laugh again – this entire situation was so ridiculous. And James's pants were still around his knees. Lily took a deep shuddering breath to try to stop laughing and control her anxiety. She squeezed her eyes shut. "Well, I think I just asked you out." She squinted out of one of her eyes to judge his reaction.
A goofy smile almost split his face in two. "Okay, then girlfriend," he pulled her in for a solid kiss. Lily could still feel his smile when he pulled away.
James reached down to pull up his pants, honestly, he thought, it was embarrassing that he hadn't bothered to do it sooner, and worse that he was still half hard with all the emotional turmoil he had suffered in the past two minutes, but his mind and body weren't exactly corresponding at the moment.
Lily stopped him though and reached down to give him a few pumps with her hand.
"Lily, I'm not having sex with you like this."
She had the audacity to roll her eyes at him. "We have all night for that."
"Don't you have a final tomorrow morning?"
"Why does everyone care more about my finals than I do? God, James, I'm about to suck you off and you're worried about my biology final."
He was about to make what was sure to be an excellent retort, but Lily sunk to her knees in front of him, so he gulped instead and prepared himself for the vague embarrassment that came from lasting only a minute.
It seemed like Lily had barely wrapped her mouth around him, barely swirled her tongue at all, before he was tugging at her hair and letting out a gravely "Lily" to let her know he was about to come. He watched her swallow with wide eyes, before leaning against the wall to keep from falling over.
Lily stood up, pulling his pants up as she did. James took them from her, and it took him three tries to button them.
James grabbed her hips and pulled her into him. It was absolutely necessary that he kiss his girlfriend again, right then.
After obliging, Lily turned to walk away but made a face.
"What?" he asked, vaguely worried he had kissed her wrong or something.
"Nothing, it's just there's stuff working its way down my leg, and I am wearing a really short dress."
"I've got it," James said. He reached under his skirt and ran three of his fingers along her folds, collecting as much wetness as he could, before popping them into his mouth and sucking. "Better?"
Lily nodded.
He pushed her toward the door. "Now get out of here, girlfriend." He was never going to get tired of saying that.
Lily got her drink refilled and returned to the table. Marlene looked at her expectantly.
"What?"
"You weren't really gone long enough for a thoroughly satisfying shag. But any progress?"
"What?" Lily's mind was still in the closet with James.
"With the bartender?" Marlene prompted, looking exasperated at Lily's spaciness.
"Oh, right." Lily shook her head. "No dice. He was much more interested in a busty blonde."
"Busty blonde?" Sirius asked, walking up behind the two of them.
Lily waved her hand vaguely toward the crowd of people standing near the bar.
Sirius scanned the crowd for a moment before sitting down. "More importantly, does anyone know why I just saw James dancing in the hallway outside the bathrooms?"
Lily sipped her drink with pretend thoughtfulness. "Maybe he hit his head on something and it made him delirious," she suggested.
"Ouch," James said, leaning onto the back of their chair. "Anyway, stand up, girlfriend." He said in a slightly mocking tone, so all of their friends just brushed over it, aside from Remus who was staring at them critically. James's smile was ridiculously wide as he settled his chin on the top of her head while he waited for her to move.
Lily sighed and stood up. James wrapped an arm around her waist pulling her down on top of him as he sat.
