Alright here we go. The last chapter that survived the fire.
Welcome back to DragonsFire Entertainment, for a new part in this exciting story!
Where we last left off, The Paw Patrol find out that Chase and Marshall are missing, and when they went to Sticksburg to find them, they were arrested on the spot for the murder of Skylar!
Why would the Paw Patrol be arrested even though they were no where near the city when the murder took place? Will they be able to get out and continue their search?
Find out in this next part of Lost and Found: A Temple of Dooooooooooooooooooooom story.
Jailed
A whole hour has passed since the pups were thrown into the cell. Their pup packs were stripped, and their pup tags were taken and replaced by generic identification tags.
They were all scared, as Zuma was shaking his tail off, Rubble was laying down in the center, lost in his thoughts. Rocky was crunched up in the corner, looking like he could freak at the drop of a hat. The only ones who appeared to be fine in the cold cell were Skye and Everest, who had something else plaguing their minds and that's what they were arrested for. Skylar's murder or being accomplices in her murder to be more precise.
The two wondered why. Why would they think that the Paw Patrol would go so low to do such a dirty thing. They weren't a violent team at all and none of them wanted to be. The police should know that it wasn't like they didn't know who they were and what they'd strived for. Helping any creature when they needed help and even if some got hostile, the team would never inflict harm on anyone willingly.
That was in Everest's mind, but Skye had a different view on everything and it was just as bad.
When Ryder asked the police why they were being arrested, the officer said that they were being accused of coinciding to murder Skylar, Skye instinctly thought that it meant that the one who was accused, was Chase himself.
There was no doubt in the cockapoo's mind that Chase was innocent. The mere thought of committing murder would make Chase shiver in his paws. He may have slain before, but that doesn't mean he would pull the trigger whenever. Even if it was, he would never even think of harming a friend. But according to the police, he killed Skylar. She didn't need to read it in the Sticksburg paper. Them getting arrested at the airport spelled it all out for her. Chase was being accused of murder, with Marshall as his accomplice.
"Skye?"
Skye looked left to see Zuma, still jittering in fear. "Wh-Whewe's Wydew?"
"I-I don't know Zuma. They separated us when they got us. I have no idea where they took Ryder."
Zuma averted his eyes away. "Do-Do you think they'we tweating him okay?"
Skye twitched. "What makes you ask that?"
"I've hewd...that this city doesn't like humans Skye." Zuma mumbled as he looked back at the cockapoo.
Skye of course heard that too. It took a long time for Sticksburg to accept humankind to reside in its limits, and even then, segregated them to a separate district. The city was established to push back on human oppression on dogs after all, so it was naturally difficult for a human to even visit the city.
Even though Sticksburg was slowly and surely "Welcoming" humans in the city, there was still a huge resistance to them, but Skye felt that Ryder was a worthy exception.
Ryder has contributed greatly to the canine species, and his efforts with the Paw Patrol has not gone unnoticed by the community. While it may not be a worldwide phenomenon or a national one for that matter, word of the Paw Patrol has spread throughout the Adventure Plateau, so if any human would be respectful in Sticksburg, it has to be Ryder.
"Yes I know that Zuma, But this is the police. I'm sure they're treating him fairly."
Although Skye's optimistic manner was comforting, it was not enough to suppress Zuma's fears. "I'm scawed Skye. I don't like being in hewe. It's too dawk and….lonely."
"Lonely? We're in here with you, Zuma." Skye pointed out.
"That's not what I meant." Zuma replied "We'we all in hewe…..alone…. without Wydew."
A sudden sting flowed in Skye's heart. It was rare for the pups to be separated from their leader, and super rare that Ryder, Chase, and Marshall weren't among them in a time like this.
"How are we going to rescue Chase and Marshall now?" The two heard Everest say. "They're probably lost, cold, and hungry and were locked in here."
Everest's tone made Zuma whimper along with her.
"Everest. We're not going to be here for long. I'm sure Ryder is sorting this out, and we'll be back on the search." Skye chirped.
"But they didn't even give us a chance to defend ourselves." Everest replied with another whimper. "What makes you think they're going to listen to us?"
"They're the police Everest." Skye mentioned. "They don't just lock away for no reason."
"They do if they're loyal to Ozzie." Rubble spoke up with a low growl, causing everyone to look at him, even Rocky.
"O-Ozzie? Who-Who's that?" Everest shivered.
"Only the most ruthless crime boss of Sticksburg." Rubble answered grimly. "Sk-Skylar said that he practically owns the whole city, and can make it do whatever he wants." Rubble then closed his eyes and lowered his head. "There's no doubt in my mind that Bubba killed Skylar, and he's using Ozzies's power to put the blame on us."
An icy chill went down everypup's spine. Not one of them had ever heard Rubble sound so hostile and mean towards anyone.
"But, tha-that doesn't make any sense. We just got hewe today. How could they put the blame on us?" Zuma asked.
"They're not saying we killed her, Zuma. They're just saying that we had a part in it." Skye took over. "The one Bubba blames is Chase."
"Chase? Why Chase?" Rocky asked.
"Because he confronted him last night, and followed through on Ryder's plan." Rubble cleared, still having a dead tone. "Bubba probably told the police that it was Chase who killed Skylar."
"But…...he didn't…...right?" Rocky asked.
"Of course he didn't!" Skye blurted out. "Chase would never do such a thing to his friends!"
"Are-Are you sure?" Rocky asked back."
Skye twitched. "What?! Of course, I'm sure. Chase doesn't kill at all unless he has a reason to."
"What if….he had a reason?" Rocky suggested. "What if…Skylar betrayed him?"
Rubble's head snapped over to Rocky. His grueling anger showing in his eyes. "What?! No! Skylar would never betray Chase or anyone of us! How could you even think of such garbage?!"
Rocky winced back to the corner at the anger induced Rubble. Zuma and Everest suddenly had to stand ready to keep the bulldog from mauling the recycling pup.
"Rocky? Why would you say that Skylar betrayed Chase?" Skye pressed.
"L-Look…I'm just saying that anything's possible. Skylar could have done something to harm Chase, and he was just defending himself." Rocky mentioned. "That's the only way Chase would ever kill someone."
"But Skylar wanted to do more to help us, Rocky. That's why she went on the mission in the first place. Why would she want to betray us?" Everest asked.
Rocky nearly caved into everyone's troubled looks, mostly Rubble's folded stare. "I-I don't know. I'm just trying to make sense of all this. We don't really know what happened that night. All we know is that Skylar is dead, and Chase and Marshall are nowhere to be found."
Rubble barked at Rocky for even suggesting. He didn't want to fight him, but Bubble would do anything to protect his love's image. He stood his ground in front of the recycling pup, gluing his eyes on Rocky but didn't say a word.
Skye and Zuma slowly went up to him while Everest stayed back with Rubble to keep him calm. Rocky winced a little until Zuma comfortably nuzzled him. Showing no animosity for his best friend.
"Rocky, I understand that you have these feelings, But I think you're reaching very far with this and jumping to conclusions. You said it yourself that we only know that Skylar is dead, and we won't know more until we find Chase, so we have to wait until then."
"But how? How are we going to find them locked up in here?" Rocky asked.
Skye turned to the door of the cell, looking at the door that leads out of the holding area. "The only thing we can do is hope Ryder can sort this out. Wherever he is."
A dimly lit room had been in Ryder's point of view for hours now. A stereotypical interrogation room, complete with a desk lamp, a single table with a couple chairs, and a one-way window. The only difference? It was cramped and small.
Ryder could barley sit on the chair he was on due to how small it was. He couldn't even put his knees under the table as the table's surface only came up to his knees. This was obviously because the police of Sticksburg weren't accustomed to having humans in the room or the precinct for that matter. Though his discomfort wasn't on his mind right now.
He dreaded seeing his pups cower to the ground when the police took them into custody, and it worried him more when they separated them. He didn't see one of his pups when they brought him in the interrogation room. He insisted that they take good care of them in which the deputy assured him with a smug look.
For all he knew, they were all in separate cells, alone, and petrified. To make matters worse, they were arrested in suspicion of being accomplices in Skylar's murder.
It didn't take long for Ryder to deduce who the accused was. His police pup, Chase. Ryder was now in fear of finding his dear friend. He'll have to immediately give him up to the authorities for a crime Ryder knew he didn't commit. Chase would've done a complete one eighty on his character to ever think of cold murder. In that aspect, Chase have a big advantage, but here in Sticksburg, where the justice is driven by their wallets, it would do little to his case.
And what about Marshall? He was with Chase thought it all, is he in boiling water too by accomplice? If The whole Paw Patrol were arrested, that would seem to make it so. The poor pup barley harmed a fly in his life, and he may follow Chase to prison, just by being with him.
It almost made Ryder not want to find them at all, knowing that as soon as he finds them, he will lose them again. In fact, part of him wished they were dead. Cause it seemed this whole mess was just getting started for them.
The door swung open to reveal a middle-aged hound dog with a shiny gold star on his light blue uniform. Followed by a familiar dog. The Jack Russel who arrested him at the airport, with an enormously proud look on his face.
"See sheriff? I done got them just like you asked. Along with his pups." The Jack Russel chirped. "They're down in the cell at Section B."
Ryder looked sternly at the two officers. Not saying a single word that would make things worse for him or his pups.
The sheriff examined the ten-year-old and then at his deputy. "You arrested them?"
Enos nodded his head with a cocky smile, a distinct attitude from before.
"Enos. Now you know I told you to bring them in, not to arrest them." The sheriff downed, unimpressed by his deputy's actions which caused the Russel's face to fall.
"Huh? But you told me to bring them in sheriff." The deputy cocked.
"I did, but in protected custody, you dipstick! I didn't want you to arrest them!" The sheriff blew off.
"Bu-But sheriff. I thought that since that the German Shepherd is the suspect, you wanted to question the team."
"See that's the problem Enos. You think and you screw up." The sheriff demeaned. "Now you done scared the begeezes out of the pups."
The once proud deputy lowered his head and whimpered in embarrassment. "I'm mighty sorry sheriff. I wish I can make it up to you."
"You can make it up by gettin them pups out of that cell. Now get!" the sheriff ordered, as he slapped the Russel's back to shove him off. Enos jetted out of the room, leaving Ryder and the sheriff alone.
The hound went over to the boy to unlock the cuffs Ryder had on. "Now you're not going to do anything funny if I take these off, will ya?"
Ryder shook his head. "Don't plan to."
"Good." The hound said, as he unshackled Ryder. "The name's Rosco and I'm the sheriff of bone district. That idiot who arrested you is my deputy, Enos. As for the others, hell, you can ask them yourself." Rosco sat in the chair across form Ryder. "Now, I must apologize about my deputy's incompetence. It was never my intention to make you or your pups uncomfortable."
Ryder relaxed a little, but he still had questions. "How did you know we were coming sheriff?"
"I figured you would after what happened last night with Skylar's murder." Sheriff Rosco pointed. "Considering that your police pup is the prime suspect."
Although Ryder speculated it, it still stung when the sheriff confirmed it. "Yeah….I-I figured that." Ryder looked at the sheriff with faith. "Sheriff. I know you may not believe me, but Chase did not kill Skylar. Skylar was one of us and Chase would never…."
"Settle your energy for defense later Ryder. You don't have to convince me." Rosco informed. "I don't think the boy did it either."
"You don't?" Ryder questioned, prompting the sheriff to shake his head.
"Nope. Not at all. There's no conclusive evidence that says it in my eyes." Rosco replied. "I also have to admit, I'm a little biased. I was good friends with his father, Tracer. So naturally, I feel obligated to help him however I can."
"That's comforting to know sheriff, but I came here for a different reason." Ryder admitted. "I don't know where he is. I have lost all contact with both him, and another pup that went with him. The last time I talked to him, was last night, when he said that he and Marshall boarded a plane out of here. The plane never showed up."
"I figured as much. I knew something was wrong when I found out what plane they boarded, during my investigation." Rosco stated. "According to the flight log at the airport. They unknowingly boarded one of Bubba's cargo planes."
Ryder's heart stopped. "A-Are you sure?"
"As sure as the sky is blue." Rosco verified. "Those pups were boned the minute they got on it."
The blood in Ryder's body slowly dropped in temperature. Now he knows without a doubt that their plane crashed, and it was not an accident.
"I'm sorry son. I just do not know what to tell you. Your pups seemed to have made a fatal mistake. I don't expect them to have escaped their fate."
Ryder's heart sank deeper as he slowly accepted their pup's fate. If they had not contacted him yet, and the pupcomputer showed no vital signs from their tags, it all fell into place. Chase and Marshall must be dead.
Tears formed in his eyes as he clenched his fist. The overwhelming despair was taking full control and the familiar pain he has had way too many times was brewing yet again.
However, he immediately pushed that away. He cannot give up, not even at this point. No matter if every person in the world was telling him they were gone, there is still a chance. He had jumped to a conclusion once and it turned out to be a false result. Until he see's Chase and Marshall's remains, he will continue to have full faith in them.
"Ryder? You okay son?" The sheriff softly.
Ryder looked at him. Tears still in his eyes. "I still need to find them."
"I don't know about that Ryder." Rosco stated honestly. "They could've crashed anywhere. It'll take weeks to locate a downed plane."
"Maybe, but not if I can find out straight from the horse's mouth." Ryder's claimed.
"Now, what do you mean by that exactly?" Rosco pressed.
"I mean, I have to talk to Bubba himself." Ryder cleared.
Rosco snickered comedically, until bursting out in laughter at the boy's drastic action. He did not stop until he saw the determined face Ryder had on. "Oh…you're serious."
"Of course, I'm serious Sheriff. If Bubba had anything to do with their plane not making it, Then I need to confront him myself if I ever want to find Chase and Marshall."
Rosco was taken aback drastically, as he stuttered. "Ry-Ryder…. nobody talks to Bubba. Mostly because nobody can get within ten feet from him before he or his goons shoot them down faster than a jack rabbit. Not to mention, you are a human, and the citizens hasn't fully welcomed humans yet. You'll be pummeled before you get to him."
Ryder closed his eyes and drew a breath in response. "Listen sheriff, I don't mean to undermine you here, but I have to do this. My pups mean a lot to me, especially those two. They were not even supposed to go on this trip in the first place. Now until I see them alive or dead, I am going to do what ever I can to find them. I'm going to confront Bubba no matter what you say."
The sheriff gave a long sigh as he sat back in his chair. "I guess I understand Ryder. I can only stop you from disrupting peace. The least I can do is tell you where you can find those band of ruffians."
Ryder gave a nod. "Thank you, sheriff."
Rosco looked sternly at the boy. "I'm only doing this because of my dear friend, Tracer, and I'll feel mighty guilty if I let his son down."
"Whatever you feel sheriff. It helps." Ryder grinned.
Rosco shook his head as he responded. "The place you need to go is his night club. That's where he's been every night."
Ryder popped a suspicious eyebrow. "You mean the same nightclub where the murder happened? Isn't that closed for investigation?"
"To the public yes, but he still eats and operates there." Rosco informed. "And the investigation is done for now."
Ryder thought it was very strange how a crime scene investigation would be done in mere hours, but it was not his place to ask questions that wasn't relevant that much to his situation right now. "I'm guessing I can't just waltz on in there, huh?" Ryder assumed.
"Not if you don't have someone to escort you in there. Someone he trusts…..like me."
Immediate red flags went off in Ryder's head. "What do you mean you?"
"I can get you to see Bubba, because I'm one of the sheriffs he trusts." Rosco confessed.
"Are you….admitting that you're a corrupt sheriff?" Ryder asked in disbelief
"Yes…..wait…no…no…yes….I….. it's complicated."
"How?! Either you are or you're not, which one is it?" Ryder pressed, with annoyance.
"Dua-I-I-I mean that I'm a….a-a…." Rosco shook his head. "L-Look, it doesn't matter to you right now."
"Sheriff." Ryder jeered. "You should be ashamed of yourself."
"I am Ryder. It's not like I want to!" Rosco replied. "Now like I said, It shouldn't matter to you right now. You want to talk to Bubba, right?"
"Yeah, but how do I know you're not going to stab us in the back or something?" Ryder questioned in irritation.
"Because I want to help you. I want to do all that I can for Chase to be okay." The sheriff answered.
"Why? So you can turn him in and make Bubba happy?" Ryder pressed.
"No. That is far from the truth!" Rosco argued. "I maybe many things, but I still have my word and ethics."
"Then why are you so flexible with Bubba?" Ryder shot back.
"Because I have no choice to!" Rosco threw back. "This job save my wife and pups, and my life saves them as well. Ozzie has us under his paw. We're not strong enough to push him and his cronies back. So we have to play by his tune until we know we can take him down. I don't want to answer to him and Bubba, I want Sticksburg to be safe. But after the fiasco with Tracer, the other districts have lost their confidence and rolled over for them. There will come a time where they will get what is coming to them. Until then, we must play by their rules so we can take them down by our rules. Now like it or not, I am the only way you can talk to Bubba without getting hole put in ya. So It's either you accept my help, or you don't find your pups. Which will it be?!"
Ryder glared at the sheriff. His face as stiff as a tree. Wondering if he should accept the sheriff's shady proposition. As dangerous as it was, Chase and Marshall were counting on him to find them, and the longer he thought of a plan, the longer they would wait, and Ryder had a sick feeling that they did not have much time.
"Okay sheriff." Ryder then gave a stern look. "But mark my words, if you double cross me or my pups…
"Now you hush with that. I'll give you my word and on my badge, you can trust me."
A whole hour has passed since anyone has said anything. Nobody wanted to, in fear of scaring each other more. Though the silence was driving Rubble crazy. Everything that had happed was all too much for the bulldog with no room to breathe. From losing the love of his life, to being arrested for her murder. It all felt like he was on a very intimidating emotional roller coaster, that Rubble wanted to get off.
And now everything was as worse as it can be. Skylar's dead, Chase and Marshall are missing, and the Paw Patrol were in jail.
This was all his fault. He wished for this to happen. He may have tried to not believe, but it came true anyway. The worst thing is that Marshall was caught in the crossfire and for the second time in his life, he may have lost his Dalmatian friend again. All because he could not keep his thoughts and wishes to himself, and now they're in jail for a murder they didn't have a part of.
Skylar's murder.
How can it get any worse than that?
"Rubble?" Rubble heard Rocky call to him as the bulldog locked eyes with him. He could not help his rough stare he was giving the mixed breed after he said some horrible things about Skylar.
"What do you want Rocky?" Rubble asked in a low monotone voice. Making Rocky gulp.
"I uh…..I wanted to say sorry about saying those things about Skylar." Rocky uttered shyly. "It was wrong for me to thing that Skylar would ever turn her back on us."
Rubble let off a little, admiring Rocky's bravery. "Are you saying that because Skye or Zuma told you to?"
Rocky fidgeted with his paws. "N-No….maybe."
A dismissible sigh sounded from the construction pup. "It doesn't matter anyway. It's not going to solve anything. We're still stuck in here with no Ryder. We're doomed."
Rocky silently gasped. "Rubble. Come on pal. Don't be like that."
"How could I not be?" Rubble asked back. "Skylar's dead. Chase and Marshall may be with her, and we're all stuck in jail with no one to help us."
"Come on Rubble, this isn't you." Rocky urged. "You're usually one of the first ones to still be excited in the toughest times."
Rubble slowly turned to Rocky in pure disbelief. "Rocky, my girlfriend died yesterday, and Chase and Marshall could be with her."
"Rubble don't say that. We'll find them."
Rubble snapped in frustration. "We're not going to find them locked up in here!"
Rocky immediately winced away from the bulldog. Cowering to the ground and shaking his tail off.
Skye, Zuma, and Everest directed their attention at them, preparing to break them up if a fight broke out. Before anyone could say anything though, the pups herd the lock on their cell click.
They spun around and spotted a lone officer open their door with a embarrassed smile.
"Howdy ya'll. Just letting you out. Ya'll free to go." The officer chuckled nervously.
All the pup's heads cocked.
"Huh? We awe?" Zuma asked.
The deputy nodded. "Yep. Turns out I wasn't supposed to jail you in here after all, just bring ya'll in."
The pups all look at each other with skeptical looks.
"This isn't a trick, is it?" Rocky suspiciously asked.
Enos shook his head. "Nope. We don't do stuff like that. Especially to the Paw Patrol. I'm mighty sorry for locking you in here and scaring ya'll."
The pups exchange glances again, thinking that this was way to easy. After shrugging their shoulders, the pups all began to walk out of the cell, keeping their eyes glued on the deputy in case it was a trick. They never thought they'd get out of jail like this.
"Ryder!"
Ryder smiled gleefully at the sound of his name being called all at once by his pups. No matter how old it gets, he'll never get tired of their joyful barks and howls.
As all of them burst over, Ryder kneeled and opened his arms to them. The pups piled his shoulders, pushing Ryder on his bottom as they licked him like ice cream.
The sheriff and deputy stood by bewildered.
"I can't believe it sheriff. He must really take care of them." Enos assumed.
"I can hardly believe it myself Enos. Almost makes me sick to my stomach." Rosco replied with a scorn.
The Jack Russel turned his head at his superior officer. "Sheriff. How could you say that? I think this is a beautiful sight."
"Enos. I cannot wait for you to switch your mouth out with your rump, as much as you talk out of it. Now hush!"
Enos gave a short, embarrassed whimper. "Yes sir."
"Alright now. That's enough of that. This is a police station, not a daycare." Rosco ordered, prompting the pups to get off Ryder. "Now, I need a few minutes, so I can set up you're meeting with Bubba, so ya'll have to loiter here for a bit."
As the sheriff excused himself and motivated the deputy to do so, the pups all look to their owner with confusion.
"What?! Ryder what is he talking about?" Rocky started off.
"What does he mean by setting up a meeting with Bubba?" Everest added.
"Ryder what's going on?!" Skye blurted out with a worried whimper.
Ryder looked at his pups reluctantly. He wished the sheriff didn't say anything about his meeting with Bubba cause he knew he would get this reaction.
He was careful in wording his plane to them. "Sheriff Rosco is setting up a meeting between me and Bubba himself."
One collective gasp comes out of everyone.
"W-Wydew! You can't be sewious! Bubba is the most ruthless cwimeboss evew! He could huwt you weal, weal, bad!" Zuma whined.
"Ryder you can't go through with this!" Skye whined with him.
"I have to pups. You see, the plane Chase and Marshall got on last night, was one of Bubba's planes. Out to make a delivery." Ryder informed regretfully.
"What?! Wh-Why on earth would they do that?!" Rubble asked with total shock.
"I don't think they willingly did Rubble. I guarantee that it was a trap laid by Bubba. It must be the reason they never made it to Foggy Bottom. The only chance in finding them in time, is by interrogating Bubba himself." Ryder claimed.
"Ryder! There's no way Bubba's just going to tell you what happened!" Rocky pointed."
"He may, or he may not. Whatever he does, I must try. If we ever want to find Chase and Marshall." Ryder replied. "I'm sorry pups, but that's just what I've got to do."
The pups could hardly believe what they were hearing. Here was their leader, fully admitting to them that he was going straight into the lion's den, and more than likely get mauled the second he gets there.
Skye was awfully close to dropping to her belly and begging Ryder not to go confront Bubba. But then she had a thought. A thought about Chase. What would Chase do if he were here? She had an answer in mere seconds.
"You're right Ryder, you need to go."
The pups glare at Skye. Ryder paid his attention to her.
"I may not want you to, but I trust your judgement. If you really think that speaking to Bubba will help you locate where Chase and Marshall are, then I can't stop you. All I can do is stand by you in whatever you do." Skye stood on her fours and glued on Ryder's. "I know for a fact that Chase would say the same thing, and maybe even Marshall. I feel obligated to help you anyway I can."
A prideful smile formed on Ryder's lips. This was the second time today Skye has stepped up with her faith in front of everyone, and that was very impressionable on him.
Meanwhile, the pups had a different expression. Pure disbelief.
"Is your head in the clouds Skye?! You do know who Ryder is talking about right?!" Rubble asked. "This isn't Mayor Humdinger, this is Bubba. A really bad guy!"
"Yes Rubble, I do know who he is, and I'm not saying that I like the idea, but I trust Ryder as Chase and Marshall do, and if he says that it's the only chance, we have at finding our friends, then I have to let him do it."
"Can't we just go out and find them? We already know they boarded Bubba's plane, can't we just search for it ourselves?" Rocky suggested.
"We could Rocky," Ryder acknowledged. "But that could take days. We would have to comb all over the plateau for them, but we may not have time for that."
"But…..but…but Ryder…" Everest stammered in worried whimpers. "He….he could really hurt you Ryder."
"I know, but if we want to find Chase and Marshall alive at least, I need to confront Bubba." Ryder insisted.
Everyone fell silent. The pups course didn't want Ryder to go on this dangerous confrontation, but they also want to find Chase and Marshall as soon as possible. Skye already accepted that it had to be done, and Rocky and Zuma was convinced. Everest was still on the fence, but she at least joined Skye, confident in her and Ryder. Thinking that all she could do is hope for the best. Rubble was the only one standing alone while everyone else was showing their reluctant approval.
Before long, the bulldog gave a long and defeated sigh. "Okay Ryder. I get it. But on one condition."
"What is it little buddy?" Ryder inquired.
"We go with you." Rubble declared.
"No." Ryder said with no delay. "Absolutely not. Me going is bad enough, but all of you? Out of the question."
"But we don't want you to get hurt Ryder!" Rocky added.
"It's better me than all of you." Ryder replied.
"Don't say that Wydew!" Zuma cried. "If we lose you, we lose evewthing! We might as well be dead!"
"No means no pups." Ryder authorized. "I'm not going to argue any further. I have no time to. As soon as Rosco give the okay, I'm going by myself. If I find any one of you following me, there will be punishment. I'm talking total groundation. Do I make myself clear?"
All of the pups whine as they drop their heads, letting out the word at the same time. "Yes Ryder."
"Thank you pups. I know it's hard, and I don't mean to put my foot down on this, but it's way to dangerous for all of us to go. I hope you understand." Ryder stated.
The pups stayed silent, not wanting to say anything in their fears.
"Alright now Ryder, I just talked to Bubba." Rosco announced as he came back in the room to address Ryder. "He says he will be willing to speak with you at his club, but on one condition."
Ryder stared at his pups for a bit before looking at the sheriff. "What is it sheriff?"
"He says for you to bring your pups with you. That's the only condition. Without them, no talk." The sheriff announced, making Ryder sick in his stomach.
I won't bother hyping up the next part because that won't come till much farther down the line.
