It is now September of 1944, Derek was now in collage, he wanted to put his bad boy image away, epically for Danny. He walks into his younger brother's bedroom, Danny was still asleep in his bed. "Danny?" Derek asked quietly as he walks over to the bed and turns on his nightstand lamp, sitting down on his bed, gently shaking Danny up. "Hey buddy, wake up." He whispers as Danny opens his eyes.
"Derek!" Danny smiled.
Derek chuckled at him and placed him on his lap.
"Listen kiddo, I'm gonna to college, right now." He told him. "But I'll be back to pick you up to go to my house."
"Yay!" Danny cheered.
Derek kissed his head.
"But I wanna talk to you about something very important." He tells him.
"Ok." Danny said.
"Look kid, I know when we're young and everything's seem so innocent and less dangerous….but as we get older to realize that the world is a scary place." Derek explained. "Now I know you may not understand what I'm saying, but…I want you to know that you are never alone in this world. You got me, mom, dad, the boys, our families and friends….and…and if you are ever feel like you're in a trouble or in a bad situation, come to us for help. Never run away from it. Got it?"
"You got it big brother!" Danny smiled.
"Good, cause I don't want you to grow up too fast." Derek tells him. "Now I want you to promise me something…" Danny looks up at him. "Promise me that you will never ever let anyone talk down on you or the boys…you tell them to buzz off…and I want you boys to remember that you are great kiddos." Derek spoke. "Because you boys are the greatest boys and everyone loves you kids very, very much. Promise?"
"Ok." He said. "I promise."
He knew Danny wouldn't understand, but hey, he was doing a big brother's job.
"Good boy." He smiled.
Derek kissed his head.
"Alright, you go back to sleep, ok?" Derek said as he laid Danny back down.
"Ok." Danny said.
Derek covered Danny with his blankets.
"But you are gonna pick me up after college?" He asked.
Derek smiled.
"Of course lil' man." He says.
He kissed his head and ruffles his hair as he turned to the door, before looking to see his sweet baby brother falling asleep peacefully. He was so blessed that he made it out alive. He loved his families and friends so much. So he walked out of the room to see his parents there with a smile on their faces.
"That is so sweet." Diane smiled.
Derek chuckles at her.
"Hey, just doing a big brother job." Derek tells them.
They smiled at him.
"And you're doing great, son." Dylan said.
Derek smiled.
"Thanks dad." He said. "I'm gonna head off to school."
"Drive safely, baby." Diane said hugging him.
Derek chuckled to himself, he knew that his parents would be extra protective of him and Danny, the same thing with Kenickie's, Sonny's, Doody's and Putzie's parents, epically after what happened to Derek, who nearly escape from near-death experience.
"I will mom." Derek assured her with a chuckled.
"Good!" Diane smiled.
Derek walked out of the house, to go to school. So like before, he's in college now and put his bad boy image away, epically for his safety and to be there for Danny.
