It was now July 4th of 1949 and everyone was at the Jacobs' for BBQ party and ready to blow up the fireworks when it gets darker. Katelyn was hanging out with Anna in the Jacobs' kitchen with Donny in her arms and both Archie and Zack were sitting on the counter eating a cookie. "So…what's the deal with you and Phil?" Anna asked her.
Katelyn looks up at her, confused.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"Oh come on, Kathy." Anna smiled. "When I met you guys…I knew you had a crush on Phil."
Katelyn tried to control her blushing.
"What….no, no I don't." She lied.
Anna chuckles at her.
"Ok…maybe I do a little…but…he's in high school and…" Katelyn started.
"So are you." Anna added. "If it makes you feel any better, Derek told me that Phil had nonstop talking about you getting into high school in the fall." She adds.
"Really?" Katelyn asked, while Anna nods her head.
"Yep." She says.
Derek came in the house and ruffles Zack's hair.
"Hey ladies." Derek smiled.
"Daddy!" Archie squealed as Derek holds him.
"Hey bud." He smiled, kissing his head.
"Hey honey." Anna smiled as they shared a kiss.
"What's going on here?" Derek asked as he wraps his arm around Anna.
"We're talking about Katelyn's crush on Phil." Anna smiled.
"Anna." Katelyn scolded, making them chuckled at her.
"Kathy, as your big Godbrother, I'd rather have you date one of the boys, mainly Phil since he's the closet to your age." Derek told her.
"Really?" She asked.
They smiled at her.
"Of course." Anna tells her. "Besides Phil really likes you."
"It's true, kid." Derek adds.
Katelyn smiled at the thought.
"Someone's blushing again." Anna smiled.
Katelyn snaps out of it.
"No I'm not." She lied.
They chuckled at her and they all looked over to see Phil walking in with Putzie and Kenickie behind him.
"Ok, I'm gonna go run to the store to get more sodas and I'm taking Putzie and Kenickie with me." Phil told them. "Wanna come?"
"Me?" Katelyn asked.
"Sure." Phil smiled.
"Ok!" She smiled.
Derek and Anna smiled at them.
"Yay!" Kenickie and Putzie cheered.
Everyone chuckles at him.
"Can I come too?" Zack asked.
"Sure kid." Phil said. "Let's go."
So they walked out of the house and to Phil's car before driving off.
~At the store~
Zack was sitting on Phil's shoulders while Katelyn had Putzie in her arm while holding Kenickie's hand. They were walking back to Phil's car and back to the Jacobs' household.
"I can't wait to get into high school." Katelyn smiled.
Phil smiled at her.
"Me too." He says. "Kathy, I've been so excited for you to be going to high school with me."
Katelyn smiles at him.
"Me too." She replies.
"Do you like Philly?" Putzie asked her.
Phil and Katelyn chuckled at him.
"Of course cutie-pie, we are best friends." She smiled.
"I think he meant, do you love Philly." Kenickie told her.
Katelyn looks up at Phil who had a small smile.
"Uh…l-let's just…get home, ok." She said.
They got to Phil's car and buckled the boys in, before getting in.
"I love you, too." Phil whispers to her as he gently held her hand.
Katelyn smiled warmly at him, happy to know that one of her best friends was into her as well! She always was in love with him since she was 2 years old. Even before she knew what crushes were.
