Here is another quick chapter hope you like though it's not fully edited!
Two horses galloping pulled a wooden cart along the muddy river banks; great hooves thrashing over the bumpy terrain made it jolt; rubber less wheels screeched meeting sand and stone, sparked like starlight and then dispersed quickly. Two beings sat in its single compartment; one a priestess and the other a severely wounded demon lord that was oblivious of his surroundings.
Sad eyes closed then reopened, Kagome sighed and shook her head still not fully coming to terms with what had occurred only an hour before. With another weary sigh she focused all her attentions back onto her lover again, seeing his serene beautiful face unconscious in sleep made her heart pound with solitary regret.
She worried for him now more than ever because Ko had prevented her from healing him on the island; implying that he could not trust her motives now that he had seen how deeply she cared for the demon. He was breathing unevenly and her fingers holding onto his wrist confirmed that his pulse had weakened drastically. She could only hope that their journey would end soon so that she could attend to him properly.
Before they'd left the safety of the spaces outside of the barrier, Ko had used his staff to erect a glowing shield around Sesshomaru's body for protection. It was easy to tell by his body language that he hadn't done it to be kind. In fact, his countenance expressed that he couldn't care less about this demon and that he had only performed out of obligation to accommodate the bargain that he'd struck with her.
Reluctantly he had instructed one of his companions to assist him in the task of securely removing the demon from the island. It wasn't without a struggle but they'd both managed the laborious chore.
Now that she thought about it some more without the earlier concerns that had clouded her mind, Kagome realized that Ko had made his move precisely at a time when the barrier had weakened somewhat. Making her wonder even more how he knew so much about this place and what could it all mean?
They'd journeyed from the island on a boat that had carried them out to sea and then into the path of a small tributary. Many miles later Ko had directed the small vessel into an area of the river that was dense with river vegetation and had made a complete stop. She'd watched nervously while standing in the shallow water as Ko and the other man half carried half dragged Sesshomaru's unconscious form from the boat.
The wait on shore wasn't long, and in no time at all two men were seen coming towards them. One drove a cart while the other stood between two horses guiding them along by their reigns. Suddenly she became painfully aware of how Ko had successfully abducted her and her jaw dropped .
Kagome sighed softly. She could not imagine now how she was going to make it without Sesshomaru or how was she going to process all this without having a nervous breakdown? Because just the thought of being with Ko again made her sick to her stomach and her eyes watered. She wiped them dry with the sleeve of her dress the moment that she heard a swift gallop approaching the side of the cart. She would not cry again for the enemy to see.
She glanced to the left and saw Ko on his horse keeping steady pace with the cart now that he had caught up, and wished that he would just disappear.
Ko arched a brow and mused for a moment seeing her downturn lips, the sign of her disgust for him. He huffed. She may hate him now but in the years to come she would grow to love him. He would become her whole world he thought and smiled to himself. But dwelling on such things was irrelevant at the moment, Kagome gave him her word and he trusted that she would honor it.
He pointed a finger in the direction of the forest and cleared his throat to get her attention. She looked away from Sesshomaru's face and then turned her head to hm, though avoiding his eyes.
"Kagome," he addressed her.
The sound of her name on his lips almost made her jump out of her skin, it was revolting, it made her want to throw up. She gulped as he continued.
"There is an old house through there," he said and pointed, "we can stop so you can assist your demon," he finished in a sarcastic tone.
She looked at him boldly when he made the remark about her demon and smiled wilfully at him. He on the other hand was quite confused by her odd behavior before she opened her mouth at last and spoke.
"Yes," she said softly, "he is my demon so how can I ever be yours?"
Ko stared at Kagome who stared right back at him. There was a bright sparkle of defiance in her eyes. Suddenly, a scorching pain shot across his belly with swift realization that while he may have won his prize she would never love him back. He couldn't bear to see the deep loathing in her eyes for him so quickly he rode on ahead.
Ten minutes later they were staring at an abandoned house that was partially destroyed by the elements. Kagome eased Sesshomaru's head off her lap as soon as the men dismounted and came to stand at the back of the cart. She sighed deeply. This was it; this was where she would part with Sesshomaru forever.
Ko's cruel insistence that she healed Sesshomaru to a certain point and no more, and if he lived or died after that was solely dependent on his own strength, made her feel even worse.
She was silent, closing her eyes briefly trying to swallow the bitter pain. Ko jumped into the cart and she opened them slowly. She cast him a furious gaze in spite of the burden on her soul, and protectively moved her hand to rest on Sesshomaru's bare chest.
"It is time," he said indifferently.
He could see that she was worried about the demon and was fiercely protective of him but he didn't give a damn. He only wanted to end his brief encounter with him so that he and Kagome could leave this place.
Later when Sesshomaru was removed from the cart and placed into the house in an area that at least had a roof, she folded the single blanket and placed it at his head. There were no comforts to be had here, so the least that she could do was to make him a pillow. She continued to kneel beside him, wiping beads of perspiration from his brow gathered there because of a fever.
A shadow paused over her but she did not acknowledge the presence, she already knew that it was Ko, the last person that she wanted to see right now. Completely ignoring him she focused all her attentions on Sesshomaru to his displeasure. Ko's right hand dropped to her shoulder and squeezed none too gently, and she sensed tension so thick within him that it was almost suffocating.
She gritted her teeth to hold in the rage that she felt. His touch was sickening and she longed to rip his conniving hands from off her body. She closed her eyes and took a long cleansing breath before standing and casting him a cold glare, but he was not watching her. Piercing eyes moved over Sesshomaru with hostility and distaste.
Ko looked away at last, but Kagome wasn't fooled by his softer expression. She could feel a wild daunting wind tailing his aura, though he tried his best to suppress it. She waited for him to state his business because she was of the mindset that he had agreed to let her aid Sesshomaru although not wholly. So it made her wonder about his inflexible scrutiny.
Night was falling and rain begun to threaten as the wind rose he noted; after all it had been a long tiresome day, and the rainy season at hand. He walked silently to the door and stood in the doorway.
With his back turned he addressed her. "Aid him to the point where he will survive, do nothing more than that," he warned. "Remember we are the same so if you try to deceive me I will know."
She started to repudiate him, and then seemed to realize that his words were meant as a challenge. She clenched her jaw hard, he wasn't worth her anger anymore, and besides she had better things to do with her time like assisting the male that she loved rather than to argue with an oaf.
Malicious mischief swept through him when she continued to dismiss him with her indifference and he spoke crossly. "Make it quick, night draws nigh and soon rain will be upon us."
Her eyes narrowed with rage and her lips quivered. There was no way she could remain passive now. She shivered with her blustering emotions and took a step closer to him. He heard her panting harshly behind him and spun around meeting stony blue eyes.
He lowered his eyes in an instant feeling the heat of her rising temper. She stared at him long, absorbing the bitterness and hate, steaming and boiling inside her until she couldn't hold it in any longer. Then finally she exploded.
"Stay the hell away from me," a slew of curse words spewed from her lips furiously. "You are a fool who thinks that you can have my love because of the past and a disagreeable pact made between us. Know this, while you may take my body I will never surrender to you. I owe you nothing. Leave, let me say goodbye to the one that I truly love."
He gazed at her incredulously, she was panting harder and her scorching eyes seared over him, and once again that burning in his belly returned. In haste he looked away, and only then did the stinging in his gut began to subside.
Kagome drew nearer to Sesshomaru who had not made a sound the entire time and knelt down beside him. She reached for his hand and immediately felt for his pulse. It was there, but barely. Too much time had been wasted already; he needed all the strength that she could give him if he was going to survive.
Like before she concentrated, reversing the flow of her reiki so that it would heal instead of destroy. She could feel her powers flowing from her being and into her hands. The glow around her fingers was remarkably bright, and gently she placed her hands on him, transferring all that she could render to assist him.
With her eyes closed as she healed him, time became meaningless as the world spun freely around her. Every color blended perfectly and formed none. She felt dizzy as her mind and soul traversed through infinite space and her sense of time loss in currents of deep concentration. However, the interlude came to a quick end by a crushing hand grasping her shoulder painfully, giving it a hard pull.
"Enough," she heard the stern voice say and she opened her eyes. "It is time to go."
"No," she objected, the rancor of letting him go ran too deep and she had not said her goodbyes.
The pressure on her arm increased the moment that she objected. Uncaring eyes bored down into her sorrow filled ones, and an angry mask set his features hideously in the shadows. His lips parted and he uttered.
"It is time to go…Now!"
She bit into her lips and closed her eyes. Her soul restless and weeping she begged him. "Please, please," her voice a quivering mess of uncontrolled desperation. "Let me say goodbye to him and I promise to be good to you."
The words that left her mouth were muttered in despair. She didn't think, couldn't think. All she felt was uneasiness and a heavy weight on her heart and soul. Just the thought of not being able to kiss his lips one last time, utter the words I love you in his ear. Words that she should have told him a long time ago made her feel like dying.
She opened her eyes after awhile and met his hooded gaze. He watched her for a moment, silence stretching between them uncomfortably. Yet the tears that filled her orbs and then had splashed onto her face shaped his heart precipitously and he gave in.
He grunted in annoyance. "You have a few minutes."
She didn't think to thank him; she scurried away from him breathlessly. He walked away from her and then paused at the door and turned. He watched a moment as she threw herself across the pale demon crying her eyes out, and hoped that one day she would love him like that.
He shrugged; something told him that wishing such a thing was futile. She would never love him like that. With the bitter thought in mind he walked out of the room and into the night.
Laying across his chest with her breast flushed against him she could feel the beating of both their hearts. She could feel the hardness of his flesh, smooth like polished marble, though it became pliant under her fingertips. She kissed his cheeks and lips tenderly, moving her mouth slowly over his.
Her hands roamed free all over his chest without any apology. If this would be the last time that she would ever be with him she wanted to remember the hard satiny feel of his skin, the soft yet firm curve of his mouth, the smell of his natural aroma and the heat of him. Time was running out for the two of them, and it didn't help the situation any at all that she could feel Ko's restless aura bearing down on her. Regardless of that she had to tell Sesshomaru how she really felt about him before the opportunity passed.
He was the first male that had ever made her feel so much fire. It rose within her, filling her limbs and swirled inside her belly. When she was with him he seemed to cast her into another realm where all her fantasies came true. How she loved him, now regret filled her soul, numbing it so much that she believed she would never feel anything real again.
Her mouth moved to his ear and she struggled not to cry anymore. The color left her cheeks becoming ashen like a corpse. Her lips parted on a sob and her tears flowed once more.
She trembled, her lips quivered incessantly and she felt that she wouldn't be able to speak. She took a deep breath to calm her anxieties, because now was not the time to hold back.
She sniffled and closed her eyes against the need to cry once more, then began to speak unsteadily
"How can I say goodbye to you when you are my heart. Leaving you is like dying but for you I would pay any price so that you may live."
She paused and looked at his face, wishing that he would wake up so that her words would be more meaningful.
However, his eyes remained closed and it would seem as though he would stay unconscious for some time. She rests her forehead on her palm as sensations of hopelessness assaulted her, making her feel more lost and desperate. She hoped like mad that he would wake up soon but sadly that wouldn't be the case. She sighed again when he remained motionless, at least his pulse had strengthened and he would make it, and for that she was very relieved.
She smiled lovingly at him even though he could not see it and continued on with a heavy heart.
"I don't know if you can hear me or not but I need to tell you that I have loved you for a very long time now and I should have told you so."
She shook her head denying the surging spike of her emotions, she had to stay calm and in control as much as she could.
She breathed deeply feeling despair building up again, and it calmed her so that she could finish telling him what was in her heart.
"Sesshomaru please don't give up on me, I wish that when you are better you would come find me but I fear if you try to breach the barrier again you may die. I wish also that there was a way I could protect you from the barrier so that you could come rescue me, but regrettably I cannot think of a way to do that."
She kissed him one last time and got up to go and then stopped suddenly. She went deadly still and stared at him again. In that moment she forgot about everything around her. She was caught up in time and then his fingers moved and his eyes opened. She had been correct, she had definitely felt movements coming from him before.
His gaze was steadfastly upon her, weary but filled with his true emotions. She could not move for she felt sure that she would fall over from shock. She had never been so confused, happy or sad in her whole life. She became mute watching as he opened his mouth to speak but the words were not forthcoming. He was still very weak and talking became difficult.
She dropped back down beside him again resting her head on his chest, she could feel the quiet drumming of his heart and felt eternally thankful that he was alright.
It was gentle, only a slight touch but she could feel his fingers threading through her hair. She eased up and gazed into his eyes. He didn't speak but his eyes were dark almost glowing red. It was frightening and she tensed, he smiled at her in an attempt to ease her mind. Kagome continued to stare at him intently, trying to understand what he was telling her without words.
The breadth of her suffering, remorse and love had awakened him. He had heard her confession and when she had said that she wished that there was a way for him to save her and that he should not give up on her, his eyes had opened.
He hadn't much energy left but he could still do this. As she stared at him with all the love in her eyes, and it was all for him, he took a deep breath and pulled her closer twisting her head. Kagome gasped in fright and tried to pull away but was unable to. She had used up massive amount of energies to bring him to this point because of the severity of his injuries.
She thrashed around trying to escape him and he knew that he had to find a way to convey his true intention before her actions alerted the monk and ruined his plans. His warm tongue caressed the skin of her neck tenderly and she stilled. It was only a feeling but she felt that he wasn't trying to hurt her. All that he was asking was for her to trust him implicitly.
The surge in his youki covered her in a haze of wooziness and delight, her eyes fluttered down as sharp incisors breach the skin of her neck, sinking deep into her flesh. She screamed through clenched teeth, biting down on her tongue to muffle the sounds of her anguish.
The pain of his bite sunk deep into her soul and she felt like she would certainly die. Her powers flared then dimmed like a dying flame before his demonic energies flooded her being; calmness descended upon her as he licked the trickling blood away until none remained.
She felt drugged, he was weakened even further. She eased up and stared at him in perplexity, wondering what he had just done. She didn't get the chance to ponder on it for too long, that vanished when Sesshomaru bit deeply into his lips and pulled her to him.
The kiss was sweet as honey, potent like wine and tangy as oranges as she fed off his blood. Greedy lips moved over his as fire pooled into her belly. She had never been so acutely aware of every fiber of her being.
He parted her mouth with the consuming thrust of his tongue, drinking ever more deeply. The thirst increased between them but he had little else that he could give. Weariness overrode him and he fell into a peaceful sleep.
Ko's footsteps were heavy on the broken wooden flooring, hastily Kagome pulled herself together and stood just before he entered the room.
Now that she was on her feet, she felt dizzy and all of a sudden the urge to fall asleep started to weigh heavily on her. She took a step and the world spun. The last thing that she felt was Ko's hands around her waist and then everything faded to black.
Please review, thank you!
