Later that evening, Phil walks in Putzie's bedroom to see Putzie sitting up on his bed playing with his yo-yo with Danny next to him, comforting him. "Hey kids." Phil smiled as they both looked up at him.
"Hey Phil." Danny spoke.
"Hi." Putzie quietly says.
Phil lets out a sigh.
"Danny, can I be alone with my baby bro for a bit?" Phil asked.
"Of course bro," Danny said standing up. "I'll go check on Pammy for you, Uncle Peter and Aunt Peyton."
"Thanks buddy." Phil smiled as Danny walked out of the bedroom.
Phil sits down on the bed, in front of Putzie.
"Putzie, I'm here now." Phil tells him.
Putzie looks up at him.
"And I'm never ever gonna leave again." Phil adds. "You guys are my family and I need you guys as much you guys need me."
Putzie lets out a big sigh.
"Did mom and dad tell you?" He asked.
Phil nods.
"About the night terrors?" Phil asked as Putzie nods.
"It was awful Phil," Putzie spoke. "Not only was I watching you bleed to death, I failed as a big brother to Pammy."
Phil felt his heart break.
"Oh buddy…you can never fail, you're Putzie Jacobs. You're the greatest kid I've ever known." Phil tells him, he gently rubs Putzie's knee.
Putzie looks down, holding back the tears.
"Ya know, I remember when I heard Derek was in that hospital bed when you boys were only 3 years old…and how everyone was scared for him…" Phil spoke.
Putzie looks up.
"It's bad enough that he almost lost his life, leaving Danny to never see him again." Phil lets out a sigh. "But when I got shot…I was freaked…freaked out that I was never gonna make it…"
Phil tried to stop the tears from coming.
"While Patrick was nursing me back to health and wrapping up my wounds...all I could think about…w-was…you, Pammy, mom, dad, Katelyn and…everyone else…" His voice trailed off and then he cleared his throat. "I just…when Patrick and I…went to HR and my commanding officer…I told them I couldn't…I can't risk my life to do this…even though how much I wanna help and save people…I-I just…"
He stood up, rubbing his eyes, pretending that he wasn't wiping his tears away, and looked back at his younger brother sitting up.
"I'd never ever get to see you guys again…watch you and Pammy grow up…you going off on your very first date…"
Putzie softly chuckled to himself.
"Or when you or Pammy get married…I would've never see my future children and Katelyn…I just couldn't do it." Phil adds. "That is why I'm gonna make sure you or the boys never, ever go into war. Ever." He let out a shaky sigh.
Putzie saw his eyes were filled with tears, so he stood up and looked up at him, holding his wrist.
"Y-you're crying." Putzie said softly.
"Now I'm not so tough anymore." Phil said sitting down on his bed.
Putzie turned to him.
"You may be a hero to the whole world, but you were and will always be my number 1 hero." Putzie told him. "And I'm so proud to call you, my big brother. When Pammy was born, I did everything a big brother would do. Protect her, love her and care for her."
Phil just nods his head.
"Dad said, it's ok for real men to cry." Putzie adds.
"Thanks Putzie." Phil cried.
They hugged as Phil cried in his arms.
~Out in the hall~
Peter was comforting his wife who was crying quietly while Danny held Pammy in his arms.
"Dear, we'll never ever send any of the children to war." Peyton whispered.
"Don't you worry sweetheart," Peter whispered back. "We'll all make sure they never do." He kissed her forehead.
Danny looks down at Pammy and smiled a little, thinking about when Daisy was born and how he wants to be just like Derek. His hero. So he walks in the bedroom as Phil looks up.
"Thought you'd like to see her." Danny said.
Peter and Peyton walked in the room.
"Oh Pammy, sweet lil' Princess." Phil cried as he gently held her in one arm.
"Son…you don't have to go back, ever again." Peter said, putting a comfort hand on his shoulder. "I promise." Phil smiled.
Phil just nodded, before kissing Pammy's head.
"Danny, thanks for protecting Putzie while I was gone." Phil says.
"No need to mention it," Danny smiled softly as he draped his arm around Putzie. "I'll do anything for Babyface."
Putzie chuckled at him.
"Thanks man." He smiled.
"Anytime kid." Danny winked.
Pammy was starting to get fussy now.
"Oh, I'll make her a bottle." Peyton says.
"No mom, I will." Phil offers as he stood up, still holding Pammy. "My favorite job is being the big brother." He said as he pats Putzie's shoulder.
Peter and Peyton smiled at their eldest son as they all walked out of Putzie's bedroom to go downstairs while Phil makes a bottle for Pammy.
