It was December 22, 1957 and Zack was back at Derek and Anna's house, lying in his bed, unable to sleep. He was struggling how make a right choice. He didn't wanna hurt anybody. But deep down, all he really wanted is to be with his mother again, of course Zeke and Zora adores him already. He knew that he'll still see Derek, Anna and the kids. But he knew he need to make a choice. Zack looks over at to see Archie sound asleep. "I'm gonna miss living with you, buddy." He whispers softly.
He stood up and smiled down at his cousin, before quietly walking out of the room and down the stairs to the kitchen, getting a glass of water.
"Zack?" He heard his eldest cousin, Derek behind him.
Zack turned around.
"What's the matter, buddy?" Derek asked.
Zack just shrugs as he sits on the counter and Derek smiled a little, knowing what the problem was. So he walks over to him and sat down on the counter, next to him.
"Listen kid, I know you're stress out about the choices…" He started. "But you need to stop worrying about. Nobody's gonna get their feelings hurt." Zack looks up at him. "You're still gonna see us, remember?" Derek asked.
"I know." Zack spoke. "But I just…don't wanna feel bad."
Derek chuckled at him.
"Kiddo, there's no reason to feel bad about." Derek tells him. "Aunt Zoey's house is not that far either and also…you and Zora will be walking to and from school with the other kids, everyday." Zack just nods.
Derek chuckles at him.
"I um…I guess you're right, Derek." Zack said.
"Of course I am!" Derek smiled.
Zack laughs, nodding in agreements.
"But just…follow what your heart wants." Derek told him.
Zack just nods a little.
"Now, be very honest with me…what do you really wanna do?" He asked.
Zack lets out a sigh.
"Well…" He started. "I love living here and Archie…he's my best friend."
"And he's still going to be your best friend," Derek told him.
"But in all honesty…" He spoke again. "I miss my mother so much…and…"
"You want to be with mother again, right?" Derek nods.
Zack looks up at him and nodded his head.
"Yeah." Zack answers.
"If that what you want," Derek started. "I think you should do it. Besides, Aunt Zoey misses her sweet baby boy so much."
Zack chuckled.
"Yeah…so when do I start packing?" He asked.
Derek draped his arm around him.
"Whenever you're ready, kid." Derek told him. "You just take your time."
"Ok." Zack mumbles.
Derek comforted his younger cousin in his arm, letting Zack stay up a little, for a while.
