-Day 33: Cooking lessons-
12:34 pm
Misaki and Takumi had spent most of the morning laying around and enjoying the alone time they finally had with each other. They weren't accepting any calls or messages unless it was an emergency. This vacation was all about them and having fun. Takumi had an idea of cooking being fun and expressed how they should cook up something.
"When has cooking been fun for me?" Misaki wondered still following Takumi to the kitchen. "It has always been dangerous. What I cooked for you on our honeymoon was a mess."
"No, it wasn't."
"You don't have to lie about it anymore Takumi," Misaki said as they entered the well-stocked kitchen. She had asked for the pantry to be stacked with many different food items. "I'm more hurt seeing you trying to eat that food than me burning it. If I cook something and it looks strange, please don't eat it."
"I shall eat it," Takumi disagreed looking around at the products.
"Takumi!" She whined. Did he want to die from food poisoning?
He shrugged his shoulders. "I'm a doctor, I'll find some medicine for whatever concoction you create."
"You," Misaki began but then paused as she knew there was no stopping him. Maybe if she cooked something disgusting on purpose and made him eat the whole thing, then he would back off. "I still don't think you really want to make me cook in here. Suppose I burn it down? It would be best if I learn at a place where there's enough safety equipment."
"Don't say that Misaki. You're making me scared for my life," Takumi joked. "You've never had me as a teacher to help you learn. I promise to make you into the world's best chef."
Misaki smiled slowly getting into the idea of learning to cook with Takumi. "Okay, but let's start with something easy."
"Boiling water?" Takumi asked innocently.
"Haha very funny," Misaki said in reply.
"How about omurice?"
"Will you be as dramatic as you were when you cooked for us in the maid latte?" Misaki questioned thinking back to how dramatic he was.
"I did have to impress you Misa. You were underestimating my ability," Takumi answered putting together all the ingredients on the counter.
"Well you can cook," She muttered getting closer to him.
"First things first, your apron my lovely wife," Takumi said helping her put on a white apron which he found on the counter. After the apron was tied up, he put on his own apron. "Now, I'll need you to cut this onion into fine pieces. Slowly please Misaki, I don't want you cutting yourself."
Misaki felt as if she was a child asking for a toy from a parent. "Yes dad," She answered. Her reply made Takumi chuckle. She did as instructed cutting the onion in half and then cutting the half into small pieces. "Is this okay?" She asked showing Takumi what she did.
"Perfect," He complimented her work. "Now chop this chicken breast into small parts," He said moving to stand beside Misaki, holding her hand to show her how to cut the chicken.
Misaki almost snickered at him finding a way to be this close to her. "Done."
"Take some oil and preheat it in a pan," Takumi said to continue to call out the steps. He watched Misaki put her all her attention into what she did. He knew she was determined to not mess up this dish. "Put the onions in the pan and once they're soft add the chicken and stir."
"Okay," Misaki answered. 'We're going good. Nothing is burning,' She thought.
Takumi had moved away from behind her to allow Misaki to have some space so she could move back if anything happened.
"The meat looks almost done so we're going to add some veggies, salt, and pepper," He told her as he handed Misaki the bowl of mixed vegetables he put together when she was stirring the onion and chicken. "Don't add too much salt and pepper all at once. You always add too much at the beginning when you cook. Add a little at a time and taste."
Misaki did as she was told adding the salt and pepper slowly and tasting as she went on. She next added the precooked rice and broke it down as she mixed it into the rest of the ingredients. Once it was done she placed it unto a plate-like Takumi instructed. She washed the pan and proceeded to do the next part.
She had to mix together an egg and milk in a bowl as the oil heated up in the pan. Misaki felt excited with how the dish was coming along. She of all people was cooking.
Takumi watched from the sidelines as Misaki was practically doing a happy dance. "You can pour that mixture into the pan now Misa."
Misaki poured it into the pan and waited for the egg to set before she added the fried rice on top.
"Don't forget the cheese," Takumi reminded her.
"Oh right," Misaki said before she added the cheese she forgot. She then proceeded to slowly and gently fold the omelet. Once that was done, she took a plate from Takumi to then carefully lift the omurice from the pan to the plate. "Finally," She said once the omurice was on the plate and the stove was turned off.
"For you milady," Takumi said handing her the ketchup to decorate it.
Misaki took the ketchup and wrote success on the omurice. It was now time to taste what she created. They both got a fork and tasted it at the same time. Misaki's eyes widened at the taste.
"It's good," She beamed practically jumping up and down as she finally cooked something someone could digest properly.
Takumi smiled at her behavior. It was good indeed. "My wife is a chef. I can't wait to eat more of your omurice in the future."
"Thanks to you my teacher," She said inching closer and tiptoed to peck kiss on his lips.
"Anytime Misa."
