When D would awaken, he would be pleasantly surprised to no longer be within the well. Rather, he was on damp ground. The blades of grass tickling his face when a cool wind would flow over him. Slowly, he pressed upon the ground to sit up and look around himself.
They actually were close to the well itself, and Alucard was across from him. With his body slumped against a tree, he looked like a drowned rat, poor thing. Seems that the man had pulled him from the well (with obvious struggles in doing so).
D shifted up to stand. His clothing was damp, and clung to his skin, making the surface irritably itchy. D would frown, going over then to crouch over Alucard's form, slowly bringing the palm of his hand mere inches from the other's mouth. Thankfully, Alucard was still breathing, just unconscious. A quick scan of the surroundings told D their horses were not nearby, and hopefully still by the road they came down on. So he went to collect them, but not before peeling off his signature cloak, letting it hang on a low branch to dry.
With D vanishing behind a hut, Alucard was coming back to reality. A sound of pain gurgled in his throat before abruptly coughing. His lungs felt like they were on fire as he emptied them of well-water. It left Alucard almost heaving, leaning forward as water dripped from his lips.
"Ah—Fuck." He wheezed, giving a few good hits to his chest before he would slump back against the tree, eyes closing as he grimaced. The sound of hooves upon the earth got Alucard to open his eyes once again, glad to see D and their horses in one piece. With little word, D held out a hand for the other to take, pulling him to his feet and handing over the reins. D then moved to grab his still dripping cape and put it on the back of his horse.
Seems there was a change in plans.
"We can't linger here." D spoke quickly, hoisting himself onto the saddle with utmost ease, while Alucard struggled a bit, still needing some more time to come back from nearly drowning. He didn't question the other's urge to keep moving. No sane person would want to linger on land filled with blood and hellish auras.
With grip on the reins firm, and a kick to the animal's sides, the horse moved into a quick trot. Down the dirt roads and along the rest of the barren countryside.
It was silent for a few moments, with D turning his head slightly back as he spoke:
"Are you alright?" He asked, with Alucard taking a moment to reply.
"I'm fine— and you? It was hell getting you out of that damn well." Alucard would have to admit with a huff. "I won't lie, it took a few tries to pull us both out. The walls coated in slimy algae. I had to dig my claws into the stone."
"I'm glad you did. Thank you." D spoke in a softer tone, something rare of the other. "Though, I could have gotten out on my own, should you have waited."
"I thought you were dead." Alucard would have to retort. "You were facing down in the muck of that well— but thankfully not in the actual water."
D couldn't argue with that, and he let the conversation simmer back into silence.
D wasn't too eager to keep talking. He was beginning to find it difficult to allow words to spill from his lips. His mind was swirling— the blood thirst was only further consuming him. He couldn't wait much longer to feed. Once they settled for the night, D would slip off to hunt down an animal to drain, and then use for a warm meal.
It was always quite vacant between settlements, Romania was filled with rolling hills, jagged landscapes, fields of grass and acres of silver fir.
With the moon steadily coming up over the mountainous horizon, it was time to find somewhere to settle until dawn. It would be good to peel away damp clothing and let it dry by a fire— but standing around with bare bottoms wasn't too pleasant, either. Alucard made quick work of collecting kindling as D would tie their horses, letting them rest with saddles removed. The sound of the other's heartbeat was all he could hear— no rustle of trees, no bird's song. It went in deafening sync with the pumping of the horse's veins. D had to practically keep his mouth clenched as he quickly fastened the ropes to one of the many firs.
So, the pair would sit together with a fire going as the moon began to steadily creep up into the black sky. The dhampir stared intensely into the flames, memorizing every flick of the wild heat. Alucard could feel this uneasy tension building, glancing at the other, who seemed to not notice.
Alucard could see this unbridled want in the other's sharp eyes…his pupils were like mere pinpricks, with the veins popping against the sclera. Then it finally hit him.
"… You need to feed." He spoke up finally with a scowl.
"I will once you rest." D spoke back firmly.
"Why? You cannot wait any longer, I can see it in your eyes. You're about to go mad with bloodlust." Alucard would protest, standing up and approaching the other where they sat. D would tense, coiling tighter at the other now close.
"I do not wish for you to see it." D replied through gritted teeth, eyes avoiding the other. He continued to stare into the all consuming flame, and Alucard would do something terribly small witted.
He offered out his arm before the other, the cloth pulled back to reveal glistening white skin, the pink of his blood just barely visible along the forearm. Not only that, but he was staring at D with an utter seriousness, and maybe too much faith in the other's self-control.
"Feed from me, D. At least to hold yourself over. You're about to become lost to your nature, and only God will know what you will do when you go to feed." Alucard explained, daring to press his arm up close to the other's face. D would recoil as if something putrid has been presented to his senses.
"Alucard. You do not know what you're doing." D growled as he brought his cape tight over his nose and mouth. His lips twitched, he seemed to almost be increasing in size, his body flaring defensively. But Alucard was persistent. Vampires of his world simply were not the same as D.
"Feed. D. I trust you. You cannot kill me if you tried." Alucard pushed further, but no words would hit D's ears. D's eyes would snap open, his mouth watering as his fangs would begin to reveal themselves. Slowly, his hand firmly wrapped around the other's wrist. Alucard would shiver, D's skin was freezing. What little blood he had seemed to travel to his eyes. The blonde was left to stare with at what appeared to be a pure-blooded noble before him. D came close, mouth opening to reveal the fully grown fangs, the deadly blue of his gums and tongue. His mouth would quickly move against the other's skin…
Teeth would sink into Alucard's neck.
Alucard fell back onto the ground with a startled hiss as D quickly shifted to straddle his frame. D eagerly suckled, a large hand wrapping around the back of the other's head to keep him still. Alucard stifle a cry of pain as his hands clung tight to the other's back. His heart was hammering, he had never been fed upon by another before. He could feel the vampire's venom flow into his veins…it left his skin feeling terribly hot. A soothing calm was washing over Alucard. But his heart was still hammering, a pit dropping in his stomach as he attempted to remain calm. The closeness of their bodies…and the helplessness he felt. It caused him to shift as D continued to feed from him.
Alucard's blood…it was intoxicating. Sweet and smooth on D's tongue. He found himself seeking more and more of it with satisfied groans against the skin. Heat pooled in his stomach, Alucard tasted like something he couldn't describe— oh, should nobles have been able to taste such a thing, they would never touch humans again. A dhampir's blood simply couldn't be beat— yet, it was poison to them. A forbidden taste of true satisfaction.
"D— enough." Alucard choked, hands sliding onto the other's chest in an attempt to push him back. No sounds came from the other, only heavy huffs through the nostrils between mouthfuls of blood. His skin appeared to be drained of all blood entirely, a translucent white hidden under unruly black locks. It was as if the other's jaw was locked into place, and Alucard would need to literally tear D from his body.
"D!" Alucard would snap again, giving a harsh shove to bring the other back to reality. D's eyes locked with the others as he quickly recoiled, blood coating his chin and dripping onto his clothes. His eyes were still inhuman, fangs bared as he would stare with wild eyes. Blood continued to spill cleanly from Alucard's neck, and he would bring a hand upon the wound tightly as he laid back on the ground with shallow breaths.
D kept still, and kept distance as his true form would fade with sanity settling back in. His breathing was still heavy, and he wiped the blood from his face in utter disgust. He looked then to Alucard, features pained as he carefully approached, sliding down onto his knees as he slipped his hand under the one upon Alucard's neck. The moment D did so, Alucard's hand would slump at his side, eyes fluttering. D had drank until his stomach felt bursting, leaving him feeling nauseous, while the other grew feeble under his hold.
"Keep your eyes open, focus on me." D whispered to the other in an alarmingly soothing voice. Blood trickled still between his fingers, and his mind was swirling, but he kept back his words as he focused on Alucard.
"Do not fall asleep, stay awake and with me." He demanded calmly, to which Alucard would nod, swallowing thickly with a weak gasp. Though, Alucard could not die from these wounds, he would still sink into a coma-like state until he had revitalized, just as D did when he was impaled.
With the blood finally ceasing from Alucard's neck wound, Alucard kept his eyes on the other, taking in his pained features. Even though D had fed, he couldn't stop his eyes at staring at the glistening crimson on his hands and ground, turning blonde hair red. D dared pull his hand away slow, relieved to see the wound was no more. But the intoxicating blood was still upon it. D knelt in, bringing his tongue firm against the skin. In a single smooth motion, he licked up, making Alucard gasp a little at the sensation. D couldn't control himself, pulling Alucard upright as he took in every last drop of blood his body could manage.
Even as dazed as he was, Alucard felt his stomach twist at feeling the other so closely. It had Alucard weak in another sense, hands clutching the other's thick hair with a shudder. Maybe it was the vampire's spell which controlled his actions…as when Alucard pulled the other's head away from his neck…
Alucard brought their lips together in a feverish kiss. Alucard could taste his own blood still upon the other's lips, and it left him grimacing. D froze up at the sensation, pulling himself back as he looked down at the other, who smiled and tried to coax D close again. D moved into the offer with no hesitation, their lips meeting again, but this time slower, softer. Alucard gently leaned into it, even if he could barely sit up. D would be the one to pull away again, turning his head as he wiped away the blood of his hands upon his clothes. An awkward air quickly settled between them as Alucard looked away, eyes focusing on their small fire.
"… We need to wash up. The scent of blood could bring night creatures." D spoke out then as he already began to stride towards the woods, leaving the other laying weak and exposed. Alucard did not have the will to move as it felt his vision blurring, and a tightness seeping into his chest.
"I'll look for a stream, and bring you to it." D offered, and before Alucard could reply…
He was gone.
D shot between the trees with more speed than necessary, careless with the branches he would snap with the force of his legs. He didn't focus on anything in particular, but his loveable parasite had a few things to say.
"D! We need to talk!" He barked out, only to be quickly shushed by a clench of the palm. But Left Hand was terribly persistent, daring to bite at its own host to force the hand open. D came to a stop in one of the trees, glaring down at his open hand as he perched upon one of the branches. "What the hell was that whole fiasco? Do you plan to go back? I have many questions for you."
"I can tell. It was nothing… I shouldn't have accepted the offer." D would admit grimly. "I saw what it was truly like to feast upon blood like a noble…it's dangerous. I cannot go back, I'm a danger to him now that I've tasted his blood. I've broken one of my own rules."
"Oh, you broke more than one, alright. But you can't leave him half dead in the woods like that. Whether he'll die, it's cruel to let him be torn apart by night creatures."
"Or nothing will happen, and the sun will rise. I can find my way back to the frontier on my own."
"Alucard is your guide! You need to hide those damn emotions and go back. You're usually good at that sort of thing. What is this other dhampir bringing out of you?" Left Hand would pry, and D went totally silent. "Oh… D. Is this really what you're feeling? Is this different from the glances you've given to shy maidens?"
D would give no reply, again silencing the parasite before launching himself from the tree and onto the forest floor. His cloak elegantly flowed out around him as he looked beyond the trees towards the sound of a shallow creek. The trees rusted, their leafs shattering the moonlight into dancing flecks upon the forest floor.
"I do not know what's overcoming me. It has only ever happened once before…"
"Doris?" Left hand would reply, and for once… the silence from D was a definitive answer. He continued his empty stare for a few moments longer, before turning back towards the direction of camp.
Oh, Doris. A young, beautiful women he had met in his early years of hunting. As quick as a whip and with a bit of fight, yet the smallest push could bring her to tears. How long ago was that…a few hundred years? Maybe more? She had long left this world, and her lineage was unknown to the dhampir As it was for the many men and women who had grazed his immortal life. This was simply the life of a hunter.
Upon returning quietly back to the small camp, Alucard had remained where D had left him, laying upon the ground, his blood having seeped into the soil. His eyes were closed, looking as if he were asleep. Alucard opened an eye upon hearing footsteps approach him, then feeling the other's large hands underneath his body as he lifted him up, tucking him to their chest before venturing back into the woods. His strides were long, and quick, dark locks gently grazing Alucard's face as he leaned into it with a muttering sigh.
Alucard could've walked, or at least limped. But he chose to remain still in the other's arms, hair heavy with blood. He wanted to speak, but he didn't know how he'd even start. It left him simply gazing out, watching trees pass by.
It was silent between them both all the way to the stream. D would place Alucard down at the bank, with Alucard sitting up right slow as he brought a hand to the other's chest to still him.
"I will be alright." He spoke, his voice a hush whisper as he moved to quietly take off his shirt, movements sluggish, but capable. D kept his distance, kneeling a few feet down the stream to wash away the blood upon his hands and face in disgust. Alucard would get down into the nude, and slowly walk into the stream, slowly washing away the red from his hair and neck. A liquid once so alluring, now a reminder.
"…how do you control it?"
Alucard would look at D, who was still crouched down over the slow waters.
"What do you mean?"
"Your bloodlust. How do you control it?"
Ah. Alucard felt his own hand lingering upon where he had just been fed upon for a few moments before focusing his hands on scrubbing his shirt, moving it roughly between his palms.
"I do not control it. I simply adapt to it. Though, my thirst is not as strong as one of pureblood, I still have the desire to feed. You seem to put it off for much too long, and give in when you're on the brink of madness. Allow yourself the vile pleasure of blood, D. Seek it more frequently."
That advice was…unexpected. It had D stilling, hands still in the water, water flowing over them gracefully, diluted blood seeping between his fingers.
"You just need to accept that part of yourself. You can hate it as much as you wish, but it will always be a part of you."
D then looked up, looking over the glowing form of the dhampir across from him. Moonlight shone down upon Alucard's wet skin, giving an ethereal glow to his features, yellow eyes shining and hair gently curling at the tips. They stood in place for what felt like an eon in time, before glancing away to continue quick bathing, and return to camp.
The blood and nature of a vampire flowed through them both, for now and forever.
