Chapter 5: First day

Following the next morning, Carl was woken up as it was around 5:00 In the morning, this was the usual time for the cooks to wake up since, they had a head start because they like to spend their first hour in prep, and then at 6:00 that is when the kitchen becomes busier than a subway station. If you understand that statement, then you get the point of how busy they get. They might be feeding, more than 200 hundred maybe more than 500 people. The total of amount of saviors is unknown but as a statement to Jesus, their groups can get as large as sixteen to twenty people. It does not say how many people they have in their ranks, so it's a random guess Carl groaned a bit as he disliked waking up this early despite the fact, he wakes up at 6-7 in the morning, as he just got out of bed, as he got changed as he walked to the kitchen, the nice thing is Katyusha's in the kitchen by 4, and she works by herself to get the breakfast made for the kitchen staff. So they walked into the cafeteria with their breakfast already made, as well as some coffee made as well for them, this was like her way of being nice to them. Honestly, a lot of people would use her kindness against her, at least one of the members of the saviors does that and he is among the culinary crew as well, so she ends up lacing his food with hot sauce and different types of peppers just to get back at him. Today's specialty pepper is a Carolina Reaper.

As Carl walked up he grabbed his breakfast, as he went and sits down, Katyusha was mostly just leaning against the counter in the kitchen, as she had a meeting to go to around noon, which mostly is a meeting between the work directors to discuss the things that they need and any type of upgrades they could use. Carl went and eat his breakfast, yes he was a slow eater despite the others being a bit quick, but I mean I would eat something slow if it looks good ya know, sides at least edible, not saying the food he eats isn't but you know what I mean it looks appetizing, while back at Alexandria, not so much, it was like the crew tried to achieve a 2 Michelin star status despite their current conditions, Katyusha isn't a professional chef but, her executive and sous chef's worked in a three-star restaurant before the apocalypse. She has at least four executive chefs and three sous chefs, and she is the head chef, yet she just sits around all day. Anyways enough of that, as he finished up, as then she then explained the meals for the day. Last night Katyusha held a meeting with her chefs on discussing the meals for the day, and they came up with their decisions.

Carl, himself was mostly out of it, mostly asleep only cause he was like tired mainly, though. Many of the people didn't like it, but she just told them to deal with it cause if they were tired as well, they are doing that as well. And she mainly had a point, as then she then said "Alright people you had your breakfast, get to work, chop-chop, morning rush begins in.." she looked at her watch as it reached 5:30. Yes, she has one of those digital watches "Two and a half hours" she stated as the crew got to work, as she went and pushed Carl a bit "Hey, wake up sleepyhead, no time for sleeping on the job." as Carl just groaned at her as then she stated, "Yea well, I hate getting up early too, but I got used to it after a while" she stated as he tried to push her away, but she just grabbed him and pulled him up "Come on" She stated as he just groaned, as he walked into the kitchen to get on his duty, which they placed him as dishwasher this time. Since if he wants to earn his spot in the crew, he has to start like everyone else, a dishwasher. As around 6:00 came around, Negan came around doing his morning routines, as he rested Lucile on his shoulder, as watched over the crew doing their work, Carl was trying to rush the dishes but Katyusha was helping him out by just saying to rinse the dishes, they have a dishwasher that could wash the dishes for them.

Meanwhile, in Katyusha's perspective, She was mostly trying to give some advice to the new guy, at least give him some slack for it, despite whatever the others say. Of course, this wasn't the only thing she did honestly, she has done something like this before despite the fast rate of course. As she was leaning against the counters, just watching over him, sides she preferred to stay by him than be around the mainline, cause if I mentioned about earlier, about that guy who misuses her kindness, well it's not only that, he's tried making advances on her, which failed heavily, the only reason why he was trying to do it is to get something to brag about, he didn't care for the romance part. So this was also the main reason why she was being rude to that one person is because of his failed attempts, as she continued to help the kid out a bit as well, we can say she has a full plate because she all around the kitchen but as well, she has to mentor over the new people. As well, which also doesn't help as well. Then she said "Look watch" she stated as she went and took over as she worked on the dishes, as she got rinsed each dish off in seconds. as then she said "don't be afraid to get water on yourself, I do it all the time, why do you think I wear black instead of white" she stated as she had good point as well. As Carl continued to wash the dishes, as a couple of hours went by as then she said "Alright, go take a break, I'll continue from here" stated as Carl went off to go do his own thing, She went and continued to do the dishes. As she mainly stayed to herself, as this was the best thing she could do, as she was working at a rapid speed, which was impressive to a point. As eventually she got done "Phew.. That takes care of the dishes for now" she stated as she went to go on her break.

As she walked out of the kitchen to do her thing, as she was walking to her office, as she walked by Carl, as he was just leaning against the wall as he was thinking of stuff. As she relaxed into her office for her small break.

Carl went back and got to work only to find out that she finished up his job for now pretty much. So he had nothing to do, so he just went back to his dorms until he was needed. As the day continued to go by, Negan came by the dorms as the cooks were resting, as Negan looked around as Carl was up writing some stuff, as Negan walked over as then he sits down nearby as then he said "So.. how was the first-day" Negan then asked with that grin that he had as Carl just said, "It was, okay.." he stated as Negan then said "Well that is good to hear honestly. At least people are treating you nicely." as then Negan then said "come, I'll show you around the area" he stated as Carl had no choice but to go with him honestly for the safety of his life. As they were walking around the sanctuary, as this tour went on for an hour or so, as they were arriving at the range as some people were practicing with their rifles. The Range was indoors to prevent, the undead from hearing their training

Katyusha was walking out of the range as she was holding her M82, as she ran into Carl and Negan as then she said "Greetings, both of you" she stated as then Carl then said "Hello there" as Negan then said "Hello Kat, hows the .50" as then Katyusha then said, "Well, Old Medusa has been treating me well honestly." Medusa was nicknamed that she named her M82. As she then said, "Well I hate to depart, but I'm going to head back to clean up my gun a bit before I have to head out onto another patrol." Negan nodded as Katyusha continued to walk with her gun Carl then said to himself "For a lady with a big gun, she is pretty cute" then Negan said, "What was that?" Then Carl said "Nothing important". Katyusha walked back to her quarters she walked into the room then shuts the door and locks it as she then sets her gun down she then grabbed her kit and she began to disassemble her rifle and she would begin the long period of cleaning her gun and putting it back together.

Back with the tour between Carl and Negan, they were heading back to the dorms then Carl said "Do you guys like have anywhere else instead of a multi-dormitory" then Negan then said, "We do but they are mostly, for job leaders and all that". As they arrived back at the dormitory as then Negan then said "Alright, well. I must make my departure, I see you around kid" Negan ruffled his hair a bit as Negan walked off as Carl fixed his hair a bit as he walked back into the Dormitory, as they were doing their own thing. If people were wondering the Dormitorys were unique honestly, they had their dayroom and kitchen combined into the same area as the dormitory. As Carl went and laid down on his bunk, as the others were discussing things. As it was only an hour or so til dinner hour, he waited for the Dinner hour to come around as soon Dinner was called as he got up and he went to the cafeteria as he got his food as he was walking to sit down, as Negan than whistled to gain his attention as Carl looked over as Negan signaled him to come over as Carl walked over as then Negan then said "Please, Join us rather have a new conversation then have someone sit alone" as Carl had no choice as he went and sits down now.

As Katyusha moved a bit for him, to make some space at least for him to sit down as now he was going to sit next to her, and across from Negan, Negan then said "So, Kat what was on the menu" As then Katyusha replied "Uh we went with ratatouille for the main course with beer batter onion rings for the side and dessert, a Chocolate Lava cake" as then Katyusha replied with "Anyway's, Bon Appetit". As they were having their dinner as then Negan asked "So how are you enjoying the time so far" then Carl shrugged "Not much to do honestly." Katyusha just said "It takes some time to make some friends around here" she stated to him "It was the same thing with me honestly" as Carl then said "Hopefully I guess" as Negan then just said "Well start venturing out, talk to people. Just because you're new here doesn't mean you're hated" he stated as they mainly continued to converse during the rest of the dinner hour.

Katyusha looked at her watch as then she said "I must make my departure, I will see you in the morning" she stated to them as she went and kissed carl on the cheek before she went off to her office/quarters. As Negan had a grin as he was about to say as then Carl then just said "Don't you dare.." then Negan went quiet but he kept that grin
