Chapter 33:
Shoto was studying in his room. Dabi walked out of the shower in his sweatpants and T-shirt. "Where's our little Shoto?" He asked Fuyumi, while rubbing his hair.
"He's studying right now in his room." His sister answered. Dabi thought on that, then sneered.
"Okay~" The ravenette was out of her sight after that. He trudged over to his younger brother's room, standing right outside the door, eyes gleaming at the handle. The elder then swung his shirt off before knocking the door and not waiting for a response. "Yo~ Shoto~" Dabi swung the door open and entered on his own accord. "Whatchu doing?"
The dual haired was sitting at his desk with his laptop and notebook, expression blank until he took in the elder's bare figure. The teen gawked. "What are you doing?"
"I just came out of the shower." The ravenette innocently replied, casually falling on to the other's bed.
"Well then put something on—it's still winter. Do you want to get sick?"
"Hm? You know I don't get cold easily right? Or what? My body too much to take?" Touya switched over to his side, towel still around his neck, while he held himself up with an elbow. The younger fought a blush while scowling at him. "So what are you up to?"
"Work."
"I see, that's sad." The ravenette went back to laying on his back, hands locked behind his skull. "I'll just chill here then."
Shoto didn't give him the reaction he wanted and continued to do his homework. However, hardly a few minutes went by and it was becoming difficult to ignore the other's incessant stares. Another five minutes passed and Dabi was becoming relentless as well.
"Shotooooo~ Give me some attention~"
Shoto sighed. "Touya-nii, as you can see I'm trying to do my homework here."
"What's more important? Homework or me?"
The dual haired shut his eyes. 'He's being unreasonable. I shouldn't take the bait.'
"Ne, Shoto? Ignoring me is only going to make me more determined."
"Shouldn't you be doing something?" Shoto asked instead.
"Nope~. I'm under house arrest remember?"
"Right…" How could Shoto forget? Sometimes Dabi reminded him of the saying 'an idle mind is a devil's playground.' The younger glimpsed his way once again, digesting his half naked, half burnt muscles, waist band of his sweats sitting lower than usual on his hips, face grinning at him. When Shoto met cunning fierce turquoise eyes, he immediately looked away from the temptation.
"Shouldn't you take a break by now?" Dabi pushed.
"I'm fine." Shoto fidgeted. The atmosphere around them was beginning to rise in temperature. He then felt the table shake, and found Dabi's foot at the edge of it, nudging it. The teen was forced to put his pen down to avoid scribbling on his work.
"I think you deserve a break now, or else you're gonna burn your pretty little peppermint head." Touya swung his legs around and grabbed hold of the younger's hand, pulling him on to his lap while he sat on the bed edge.
"What are you—mh" before Shoto could protest, a pair of lips locked on to his and were open mouth kissing him, tongue slipping in naturally and forcefully.
'Hm…he's been studying for a while now, maybe I should bring these cookies up to him.' Fuyumi thought, walking over to the kitchen and retrieving the fresh batch she made. Their mother was taking a nap currently and Natsuo had some college class.
The silverette placed some in the plate and headed to the teen's room. "Shoto?" She wasn't expecting to open the door and walk in on Shoto straddling their eldest brother's lap, while practically grinding against each other still clothed, lips passionately undivided and indistinct. Fuyumi visibly gasped, the tray colliding with the ground and all the cookies splattered on the floor.
The teens froze instantly and Shoto jumped out of his lover's lap, nearly tripping backwards on the ground. "F-Fuyumi—!" He panicked.
"What on…oh my God…" The silverette's brain short circuited and couldn't even decide what words to speak that she dashed out of the room.
"Wait! We can explain—!" However Shoto cut him short when he knew Fuyumi was too far gone to even hear his words. The younger marched to the door of the bedroom before whipping his head to Dabi who continued to sit on the bed unmoved. "Are you just going to sit there?!"
The ravenette exhaled. "Well, it's out in the open now." He partially shrugged, a part of him sort of relieved that they didn't need to hide around.
"Will you at least take this seriously?! What if she tells father?!" The teen snapped for a change and that caught Dabi off-guard. He had a point. Being powerless like this, he didn't want to deal with the hassle that was their father—he was kind of getting used to living a peaceful life bugging and coddling Shoto on a daily.
"Okay, yeah. Let's go scout her." Touya appeared more stern now as he fetched his tossed shirt and pulled it on, following Shoto down the hall.
Meanwhile Fuyumi walked into the first room the hallway led her to which was back in the living room. She was shell-shocked, hand covering her mouth, eyes bulging from behind her specs. She was speechless more than she was angry and didn't have time to process anything before Shoto and Touya were right at her tail. The girl failed to realize that until Shoto called her name out in a frenzy.
"Fuyumi!" Their sister swung her head around, unblinking widened eyes, staring at Shoto who returned her gaze with genuine concern. It looked like the teen had plenty to say but at the same time nothing more to say.
Dabi helped him out there, planting a hand on his shoulder and mouthing a demanding "We need to talk." His turquoise eyes locking on to her frozen grey ones, not giving her any permission to escape.
"…What's…what's going on here?" Fuyumi uttered for the sake of saying something.
"It's exactly what you saw." There was no other way of sugar coating it. The ravenette walked past her and led himself and Shoto to the couch. She trudged behind them, bringing herself to sit on the single armchair and taking a deep breath.
"I—I don't get it—when, how—what?" Fuyumi stuttered, brain racking up a million questions. The dual haired tensed, fists forming on his knees as his mind brainstormed for a coherent plausible answer. Touya, again, came to his rescue and placed a cool comforting palm over his first, insinuating him to relax and let him handle it.
"For a long while now—months, maybe a year? —since I was Dabi basically. Its unusual but trust me its mutual." Touya responded to one of her many questions.
"It's not only Touya-nii's fault—I've had vague feelings for him even before I knew he was Touya—and then I was the one desperately seeking him out after I put the puzzle pieces together, constantly bugging him." Shoto couldn't hold himself back and chimed in, in Touya's defense. Touya had a bad habit of making himself be the villain all the time. How ironic, and he was Dabi.
"Hmp, good times," the ravenette scoffed, eyes landing on Shoto. "Our little brother is quite the stubborn one when he wants to be. But none of it mattered, I pretended to act cold and didn't want you involved in my case but I was secretly relishing the feeling." He then turned back to their sister since this was about proving to her right now. "Look Fuyumi-chan, I don't know when it started really but for some reason I didn't hate it, in fact, I wanted him more. Blame it on my sick head or upbringing or lifestyle but I wanted him. Like that. And Shoto didn't seem to hate it at all. So, I played my cards."
"That's because I wanted it too…I've always been reserved and oblivious when it came to these things but I felt this inclination and relentless attraction towards him… I was just …less forthcoming compared to him, I guess."
"Wait, wait, wait—but how—"
"We had secret meetings here and there." Touya elaborated. "He knew I was Touya way before you guys, but nothing really happened between us until I kidnapped him and even then I let him off the hook. Though it did clear up a few things. But of course living under the same roof now…it's sorta hard to resist." He knew Fuyumi would understand every word despite the ambiguity.
"Wow this is just so…" Fuyumi exhaled, mind trying to process all the information, while she arched forward and pillared her elbows on her knees.
"Mind blowing? I bet. Take your time. It sucks but it is wat it is. I can't change it, he can't change it, and call it whatever, but it's not some fleeting sentiment." Dabi reassured.
"It's true." Shoto reinforced besides him.
"…But there are so many other people…not to sound cliché or ignorant but…"
The dual haired clenched his jaw. "That may be true but…I don't know Fuyumi." The teen's shoulder's were tense the entire time but he finally let them slouch in defeat. "I always looked up to Touya-nii, and I never really spent too much time with him to begin with so to me, he's kind of like a stranger in the first place. Theres still so much I don't know about him and weirdly that just draws me in closer…" He glanced at his older brother.
"And I used to envy the kid in the beginning until I realized how much of a dumbass I was and that he was no different than the rest of us—we were all in the same boat. Though he probably had it worse." Touya shared as well.
In spite the abnormality of their relationship, Fuyumi could tell it was genuine from both sides—why else would they even entertain this idea? Their sister heaved a loud sigh. "Okay, okay. This is still very odd and unusual but…I trust you two." She then smiled at them. "And I still love you two. I think it's wrong but who am I to say…as long as you're serious and no one knows finds out about this."
"That's right." Dabi fortified. "No one should know."
Shoto closed his eyes, all the stress finally rolling off of him in waves. 'Thank God.' He was relieved their sister didn't make this any harder for them.
Everything went back to normal in school. Well, between Bakugo and Shoto. Initially after that awkward kiss during Shoto's birthday, the blond was somewhat avoiding the dual haired but now he didn't care anymore. Like he moved on or something. Shoto also treated that incidence as a one time mishap. A small teenage mistake rendered in the moment.
"Hurry the fxck up already—freakin slower than turtles!" the blond shouted at both Shoto and Deku by the door.
"Why does it bother him so much? Really, somethings never change." Shoto sighed in exasperation. Bakugo was simply too used to having his way with them.
"Um, actually you guys go ahead first." To his surprise Midoriya timidly stated. Shoto did notice that the green haired wasn't looking up at or meeting Bakugo's eyes at all, whereas usually he would be staring at him like a love-struck puppy.
When they hadn't budged, the blond glimpsed over his shoulder again and was puzzled to see Deku walking in the opposite direction, while Shoto was coming closer. He was too far ahead to say anything so brushed it off.
Later that day, after one of the class bells went off, the blond approached the green haired. "Yo ner—"
"Ah, Kacchan—sorry, can it wait? I have to go to the teacher's lounge." With that Deku hastily rushed off, leaving the other teen standing on his own.
The next day, Bakugo walked up to him again but this time the quirkless user had to run to the bathroom.
The blond's patience was running thin as this happened more than a few times by now. Towards the end of the day, he called out to his childhood friend once more when he noticed the green haired walking out the class door. "Deku—!"
"Yo~! Bakugo, my man!" He was interrupted by a strong arm over his shoulder. It was Kirishima. The blond glared and shoved him off, deflecting the frustration towards him instead.
"Can't ya see I'm in the middle of something!?"
"What! Hey sorry! How was I supposed to know?" The redhead raised his hands in peace, but the blond clicked his tongue when he registered Midoriya was gone already.
The next day, Bakugo was determined that nothing would get in his way. And he would say he succeeded because he currently had his childhood friend trapped against the wall, a hand panted right in front of him, preventing him to take a step further.
"Ya have some nerve." Bakugo forced a wicked smile on his face but his eyes were glowering down at the teen.
"K-kacchan?" Deku feigned innocence as he turned away from the hand on the wall and met eyes with him.
"Ya think ya can avoid me?"
The green haired teen averted his eyes, guilty as charged. "I what?"
"Act dumb and I'm gonna punch ya."
"Urk."
With that, Bakugo gripped him by the arm and dragged him into one of the empty music rooms, somewhere they could be granted a hint of privacy. It was the end of the school day anyhow, so most of the students were making their way out of the building.
"What's the damn deal with ya?" The blond pressed. "Ya hated it or somethin'? 'Cause that wasn't the impression I was getting when ya were moaning so loudly–" The blond was bitter and it was apparent in his voice. He also couldn't answer why it was bothering him so much. Was he that bad? That was his first time. He'd do it again, over and over but what the hell was up with the other?
"Kacchan! Okay okay!" the green haired broke free from his grip and covered the blond's mouth, face turning ten shades of crimson. "You don't have to say it so loudly."
Bakugo stopped talking, feeling the calloused palms against his lips, missing the feeling when he pulled the teen's hand down. "Then what?"
"…Are you sure you're not the one that didn't hate it?" Deku quietly flipped the question on him.
"What the?! Why would I—!"
"I don't know!" All that yelling was rubbing off on the shorter teen as well, as the atmosphere got heated around them. "You didn't really say anything after so..."
"Duh! 'Cause my mom came home that time! And you hurriedly left!"
Well, he had a point, Deku suddenly considered. "So, how did you really feel then? D-did you like it?" Deku tried again, less resentful this time.
'…he did.' But being honest and outright wasn't Bakugo's strong suites. However, in this very moment Deku was looking at him for an answer, eyes hopeful and desperate. Normally he didn't give a damn what the other thought or wanted but the way he was being stared at, he was compelled to respond and not break whatever they had going on. He was on thin ice as is already, given his history with the teen. Even if the green haired never held it against him.
"…What If I said I wanna to do it again—every day since then." The blond averted his face, rubbing the back of his neck with mild embarrassment. Deku could only stare at him in awe, cheeks warming up and heartbeat fluttering at that. But then all of a sudden, he dropped his gaze to the ground. "What? Say somethin'?! Ya regret it or something?"
"No. I don't… I said I wouldn't but… I …also don't want to be a distraction all of a sudden…" Midoriya played with his fingers. "I thought I'd be okay with anything but…I don't want to be a rebound or a substitute for Todoroki-kun…" He voiced.
"Hah?! When did I—"
"But it's the truth isn't it!" Deku snapped his head up at him, locking eyes, daring him to deny it. Bakugo clenched his jaw, thick silence filling the room.
"…I've been thinking 'bout it for a couple days now. I always looked down on ya just 'cause ya were quirkless. Ya were always behind me yet I felt like ya were somehow miles ahead of me. I hated that. I didn't wanna recognize that feeling. That's why I grew so distant from ya and always tried to beat ya down. I always tried to show my superiority over ya, but always lost.
"After entering U.A. nothing went as I planned. I spent days tryna figure out your strengths and weaknesses…what am I saying…che." The blond ruffled his own hair. "It probably doesn't mean anything telling you all this now, but that's what I really think. You're your own person—not some replacement of half-n-half. Izuku," Deku couldn't believe his ears, Bakugo actually used his first name. He swore it must have been some audible hallucination. "I'm… sorry for everything up till now…"
When the green haired didn't respond immediately, Bakugo raised his head to check on him and was taken aback by fat tears flowing down the other's face. "W-what the?! Are you just broken?"
Deku sniffed, overwhelmed by unspoken emotions, while he wiped his tears. The confession sounded genuine, but he still had a difficult time believing it all. After hearing that, it almost seemed like his life had a purpose. The shorter teen didn't bother replying—in truth he had no words that could express what he was feeling—and lunged at Bakugo instead, throwing his arms over his shoulders. The blond staggered back a bit, letting out a curse out of habit but didn't throw the other off.
"You're hopeless…" The blond murmured instead.
Four Years Later
Shoto: 20
Touya: 28
The League of villains had been long disbanded, with most of the members including Shigaraki apprehended with maximum security.
After his trial, Endeavor was allowed to return to his hero duties but no longer number one or number two, and frankly he was okay with that.
Natsuo had finished his medical school and was a practicing physician in one of their nearby hospitals. While Fuyumi continued her teaching career.
Shoto had also graduated U.A. High with honors and was a pro hero, along with Midoriya and Bakugo, who were dating and owned their own apartment.
And Dabi, or preferably Touya, was free to do whatever. He was no longer obligated to wear the tracker, but the quirk eliminator still remained. Not that he was complaining since it was giving his skin the long deserved break it needed from constantly being burned. The elder was also placed under Shoto's guardianship after the teen became a full-fledged hero. But either way, Touya wasn't causing any problems for anyone anymore.
He was no longer under house arrest, so once in a while he would visit Q city and be bugged by Twice and Toga—one of the only few villains that managed to escape. Toga would always be in disguise, while Twice would show up in his regular civilian clothes, hence unrecognizable. Over the years, the ravenette did pick up a few hobbies. With his boredom driving him mad sometimes, he convinced one of his new friends to teach him the art of tattooing, and that was something he pursued a few days a week while Shoto was occupied with his hero activities.
"I'm already convinced that we'll never live together in this lifetime."
Dabi recalled saying that once a couple years ago. 'Well damn, looks like times really do change.' He scoffed a smile to himself as he reached for his jacket and walked to the foyer of their personal apartment where the two lived. He passed a portrait of Shoto on the wall. 'You're truly a blessing.' He mused, in a good mood as he went to pull his shoes on.
The elder made his way to the agency Shoto was currently employed—after some grocery shopping— waiting outside the building on the street. He waited patiently until a certain taler dual haired walked out, unaware of his presence.
"Yo~!" Touya called out with a wave, leaning against the bike railing at the edge of the street. Shoto instantly snapped his head up to meet his eyes.
"Touya-nii? What are you doing here?"
"Picking you up of course. Got some groceries too." Touya showed the bag in his other hand.
"Oh okay." The younger smiled appreciatively as they began walking. "Let me guess, did you buy mint ice cream again?"
"You can bet on it."
The hero shook his head fondly. "You've gotten me used to the taste too now."
"And how is that a bad thing babe?"
Shoto was smiling, amused, gaze pointed ahead of him. "It's not I guess."
Once they passed the main streets and were closer to the local streets of their neighborhood, their fingers naturally intertwined with one another, the sun also casting a shine on their matching earrings now and then.
