A/N: Hello everyone! How are you? I hope you enjoyed the first instalment of the new 'Hello! My Name Is…' because here comes a second! I hope you enjoy this one too!
Liam's POV
Today had been really relaxed, surprisingly. Everyone seemed to be very welcoming, including most of the teachers. Which is always good when becoming 'the new kid.'
The subjects weren't actually too bad either. I was pretty bored in Social Studies, but to be fair, I always have been. Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics weren't much different to back home, which is ideal, and Economics wasn't too difficult either.
The only class I wasn't too fond with was English, due to the fact the teacher wasn't the nicest of people. However, I would just have to put up with it for the time being, as there wasn't a whole lot I could do.
Now it was the last period of the day, which just so happens to be my favourite school subject, Music. I really like music. It's my little escape from reality if anything. I can't help but feel a sense of relaxation when I'm playing music, let it be listening to it or playing guitar or singing, it all feels pretty calming.
As I arrived, I realised there really weren't many people in my music class that were from my homeroom. The only people I recognised were Humphrey, Kate, which I only know ofbecause of Humphrey, and Charlotte, Humphrey's sister. Everyone else seemed to have similar expressions on their face as to when I first showed up in homeroom.
I sighed slightly, and walked in. Once again, I made an attempt to ignore the whispers and stares as I made it to the table Humphrey was sitting at. I grabbed a seat next to Humphrey and proceeded to wait for the music teacher to finish up what he was doing.
"I shouldn't be too much longer guys, just keep chatting," he said looking up from his laptop and scanning the class. He stopped on me and had a slight confused look on his face, tilting his head slightly to the right. I just gave a weak smile and he returned it, and then proceeded to look back down at his laptop, continuing to type.
Soon after, he finished typing and stood up, walking over to the whiteboard and stopping in front of it.
"Now guys, I hope you enjoyed your break, but I can't help but notice we have a new student, if you wouldn't mind introducing yourself?" He said, waving me over. I proceeded to get up and trudge along to the front of the class. I turned to face the class and followed my usual introduction.
"Hey. Some of you may have already met me, but if you haven't, my name's Liam Jackson, and I can't wait to work with you guys," I said adding a quick smile at the end.
"Awesome man. My name's Mr Nickson and just feel free to sit back down." he mentioned. I nodded and walked back to my seat.
"Now, I'm gonna be honest with you guys, I completely forgot school started today, and I don't have anything planned, so just head out to the music rooms and just chill out for the lesson," He said, proceeding to head back to his desk. 'Sweet, nice way to end the day then,' I thought to myself.
"So Liam," Humphrey began, "I've been wondering, your accent is quite heavy, so I know you're not from Canada, but if I guess I will probably get it massively wrong, so if you don't mind me asking, where are you from?"
"I had a feeling I would get asked at some point," I said with a slight chuckle, "I'm from New Zealand."
"Oh, I thought you were from Australia," Charlotte said. Humphrey and Kate laughed at her statement as I brought my attention over to Charlotte.
"I think I've already heard that probably nine times since moving here," I said, chuckling slightly.
"Another thing, what brings you to music? I didn't see you being someone to be playing music," Humphrey asked.
"I played guitar and did vocals in a band with a couple of friends back in New Zealand. I didn't want to just flat out stop music, so I set music in my timetable."
"Makes sense," Humphrey said with a slight nod, accepting the answer I had given. We proceeded to chat for most of the lesson, just about things like where I'm from, why I moved here, and the usual stuff you'd typically here from meeting someone new.
I looked around and noticed the rack of guitars sitting against the wall. 'Might as well jam a bit. Been a couple weeks since I've played,' I thought to myself. I got up and proceeded to grab one of the guitars off the wall and walk to one of the rooms in the back. Strummed a G chord, and I almost winced at how out of tune the guitar was.
"I don't think I've seen a more out of tune guitar in my life," I chuckled to myself. After quickly tuning it, I started playing a couple of songs I knew how to play. I was more or less practising like I usually would. I decided to play Swing Life Away by Rise Against. It's a nice song for acoustic, and it was rather easy yet still enjoyable to play. I also knew it the most out of the songs I usually played. After finishing, I felt pleased that I played it better than I usually play it.
I looked up from my playing and my smile quickly faded as I noticed the group had followed me into the back.
Humphrey's POV
"Liam, that sounded amazing, almost note for note," Kate said, forcing herself to remove the earphones from her ears during said song.
"Yeah, it sounded awesome," I said, staring on at him. I noticed him trying to avoid the praise he was receiving, clearly it was making him uncomfortable. He shuffled around in his seat a little bit and it was pretty obvious he wasn't enjoying the attention he was getting.
"Can you play something else?" Charlotte asked eagerly. I saw his weak smile quickly fade to a frown.
"Uh… um yeah I guess…" He hesitantly replied, slowly positioning his hands on the fret board to abruptly stop himself, "Let me just… um... think for a couple seconds…"
"He's not comfortable Charlotte…" I whispered just loud enough for her and Kate to hear. Charlotte's ears perked up as she noticed his current state.
"Liam, on second thought, you don't have to-," she got cut off by Liam leaving briskly, leaving the guitar behind laying against the wall, for it to inevitably fall over with a loud bang. Luckily though it wasn't damaged in any way.
"Should one of us go after him?" Kate asked hesitantly. Charlotte didn't even stop to think and went after him.
Charlotte's POV
"Liam! Come back!" I shouted, chasing him through the school corridors. As he turned down one of the side corridors, I heard a loud bang, like the sound of something hitting metal.
"What the fuck is wrong with me…" I heard him say to himself, after turning the corner I looked down to see him sitting on the floor, back to the lockers, with his head in his hands.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that," he said keeping his face buried in his hands.
"It's not your fault Liam, we shouldn't have followed you into the room," I said, watching him get back up and rest his head on the lockers, looking down at his feet.
"Are you okay, Liam?"
He didn't respond, instead just sitting there for a few seconds. I watched with worry in my eyes as he turned towards me and buried his head into my shoulder, proceeding to wrap his arms tightly around me. I couldn't do anything but return the hug.
"I'm sorry, I was just embarrassed you guys saw that…" Liam said, mostly muffled by my shoulder.
"You have nothing to be sorry about Liam. You shouldn't be embarrassed about a talent. You're acting like we saw you butt naked or something," I said with a slight giggle, and I felt a muffled chuckle emit from his mouth as he was still buried in my shoulder.
After a solid thirty seconds, he released his grasp and backed away and proceeded to smile weakly.
"If my timing is correct, the bell should be goin-," he didn't get to finish as the bell cut him off, but he did let off a little chuckle, causing me to giggle a little bit. Humphrey and Kate emerged from the music room holding our bags.
"You alright, Liam?" Humphrey asked with a still worried look on his face, handing Liam his bag and Kate handing me mine.
"I'm fine. Don't worry about me," Liam said, waving it off.
"Okay… By the way, that guitar was fine after it dropped," Humphrey said with a slight laugh.
"Really? I'm surprised, I thought a few strings would've broken," He replied with a chuckle and scratching the back of his head awkwardly.
Honestly, I was confused by Liam's slightly bipolar mood swing at that moment. 'Maybe he just needed a hug?' I thought to myself. I killed the thought quickly though, as I knew asking wasn't necessary and it would probably trigger another episode.
I couldn't help but notice that was one of the most comfortable hugs I think I've ever had. The thought felt weird as it sat in my mind. I was confused as to why I was thinking of it. 'Maybe school is just getting to my head or something. Or?... No… No. Not at all.'
A/N: I hope you guys enjoyed this instalment of Hello! My Name Is… because I'm enjoying it. Anyway, have a great day everyone!
