Humphrey's POV
The calming classical guitar that is my alarm woke me up as per usual. After my numerous experiences with alarms, I've found something a little more calming to be a much nicer way of waking up. After feeling around for my phone on the bedside table, I eventually found it, pressing the 'off' button on the screen; the sounds from the device ceasing and the room falling silent.
I slowly opened my eyes and dragged the covers off me, being greeted by the morning sun that happened to be shining through my window. I rubbed sleepiness out of my eyes and watched out the window, as the occasional car drove past.
I then realised we had the day off today. 'Dammit, I could've slept in,' I thought to myself. Wednesdays are really weird days to have a holiday or a day off. Usually when it's on a Monday or a Friday, not much changes, and when it's Tuesday or Thursday they just make Monday and Friday days off to, but Wednesdays. Wednesdays are annoying because you just have one random day off in the middle of the week. I remember a teacher said to me a while back that if we take Wednesday off, we should just take the rest of the week off. I liked that teacher. Mrs Wallis was here name. She was probably the best teacher in our school at the time.
'That was a bit of a tangent,' I thought to myself, getting off the bed and getting into some clothes that were laying on the floor; not really caring that much about what I'm wearing. I made my way downstairs to find my dad sitting at the kitchen table, drinking a coffee and reading a newspaper with his glasses on.
"Mornin' Humphrey," He said, taking a sip from the coffee and setting it back down on the table, "Sleep well?"
"Yeah it was alright," I said, walking into the kitchen and grabbing some cereal and a bowl out of the cupboards.
"I would've expected you to sleep in this morning," He said, straightening out the newspaper and looking at me.
"I would've, but I forgot to turn my alarm off," I said, pouring the milk onto the cereal in my bowl.
"Makes sense," He said, turning back to his newspaper, but quickly returning his gaze to me, "How much money do you have saved up, Humphrey?"
"Last time I checked, around $2,300; been trying to get enough for the used 3 Series I found at the car dealership. I'm still about $1,000 off. Why?" I asked, grabbing out a spoon and taking the bowl to the table, setting it down and taking a seat.
"Well, I know you've been wanting it for a while now, and I've talked to your mother about it too," He said, smiling.
"Wait what?" I said, my mouth full of milk and Frosted Flakes.
"Humphrey, we're willing to front up the rest of the money for the car."
Kate's POV
The sun blasted its rays onto my face through the window, signalling it was time to wake up. I rolled over and opened my eyes, looking at the minion clock sitting on my bedside table. 9:26am. I expected to sleep until later on to be honest. I've had weekends where I've slept until 1pm.
It doesn't matter though. I don't really have anything planned for today. Suddenly, my phone lit up, to show an email notification. It was from the school. 'Why would they be emailing me at this time?' I thought to myself, opening my phone and looking at the email.
"Good morning/afternoon 13RG.
I regret to inform you all, but Mr Ruggs (Your homeroom teacher) has retired from his teaching career. Usually we'd find another teacher to refill his spot, however, due to complications, we have not been able to find a replacement.
Due to this, we shall be splitting up the class. Below is a list of the people in the class and which classes they have been moved to...
The email continued on to show a table, peoples names from the class and where they're being moved. Usually there is a bit more notice for something like this to happen, but I guess shit happens. I scanned through the list eventually finding my name.
Heather Ricks – 13HA
Kate Rollins – 13PO
Jake Stevens – 13JN
13PO? That seems familiar. I guess I'll see when we get to school tomorrow. Hopefully I've got at least some friends in there. It'll be interesting to see if there is anyone I know there. Maybe it's Lily's class? It can't be because she in 13JN. I'll just leave it there. I don't want to hurt myself thinking too hard.
I got out of bed, walking over to my wardrobe and picking out some clothes to wear; just some sweatpants and a plain black t-shirt. I took my phone off charge and headed downstairs. I made my way to the bottom of the stairs and was greeted by the delicious smell of pancakes and the sight of my mum in the kitchen, hovering over the stove.
"Good morning mum," I said, walking into the kitchen, causing her to turn to me and smile.
"Good morning sweetie. How was your sleep?" She replied, turning back down to the stove.
"It was alright. Not bad but not the best either. Making pancakes I see?" I said, taking a glass out of the cabinet and some Orange Juice out of the fridge, pouring myself a glass.
"Yes, yes I am. Thought I'd make some breakfast for you guys before you go off to enjoy your day off," She said, chuckling a little bit, but the chuckle quickly fading, "I say that, but your father has already left for work, unfortunately."
"Yeah I noticed the driveway seemed a little empty, but hey, just sounds like and opportunity for a little girls morning," I said jokingly, causing mum's eyes to light up and a smile to grow across her face as she looked up at me.
"That sounds like a great idea!" She basically squealed in excitement, "It's been a while since I've actually done anything with you girls so let's do it!"
"Now we can do that soon, just don't burn the pancakes," I said, pointing to the pan that had smoke appearing from it, causing her to quickly turn and flip the pancake, revealing the underside to be burnt a bit and a groan emerging from mum. I chuckled as I picked up my Orange Juice, taking a sip from it and walking into the living room and plopping myself on the couch.
Charlotte's POV
The sound of curtains pulling open caused me to wake up from my slumber. I opened my eyes and lifted myself up to make myself sit up, being greeted by bright beams of sunshine blinding me.
"Good morning sleepy head," Mum said with a cup of tea in her hands.
"Well that's one way to wake me up I guess," I said, rubbing my eyes a bit, "What's the time?"
"It's coming up about 9:30ish. Why?" She asked, my eyes widening.
"Oh my god it's that late?! I have to get ready! I have to do my makeup! I have to do my hair!" I said panicking and heaving myself out of bed.
"Why do you have to do all this stuff?" She asked, chuckling at my immediate panic for an event she doesn't know is happening.
"Liam is picking me up in 30 minutes!" I basically shouted, rummaging through my wardrobe for something nice to wear. She rolled her eyes and chuckled.
"And where is he taking you?" She asked, still chuckling a bit and taking a sip of her tea.
"I don't know. Some cafe from what he said," I replied, calming down a bit.
"Okay, so you don't need to look like you're going to a ball. Just wear something casual," She said, shrugging her shoulders.
"I still want to look nice for him," I said, looking through some of my dresses.
"Well, I doubt he'll be too bothered about what you wear," She said, taking another sip of tea, this time setting the cup on my desk and walking over to my wardrobe. She looked in the wardrobe for a few seconds and pulled out a striped blue and white shirt and handed it to me, and continued searching in the wardrobe. Eventually puling out a navy blue skirt and handing it to me.
"There, that should look fine," She said, picking up the cup and taking it out the door with her. I just shrugged my shoulders, taking it with me into the bathroom along with some underwear, because I don't feel too comfortable going commando to a cafe.
Since I had to be leaving in 25 minutes, I had to be quick about everything. So I did just that and washed myself and got dried and dressed in record time, also leaving myself enough time to brush and straighten my hair.
After doing everything I felt was necessary, I went back to my room and stood in front of the mirror standing against the wall. Mum was right, it did look relatively nice. I smiled at myself in the mirror, happy with how I looked. I checked the clock on the wall and it read 10:02am, so I laid down on my bed and waited for Liam to show up.
Surely enough, the rumble of the Holden showed up in the driveway, and soon after, I heard the doorbell ring. I smiled widely to myself and grabbed a jacket and my phone, and also putting my wallet in the pocket of my jacket in case I needed it.
I went down the stairs to see Liam at the door with mum talking to him. He saw me come down the stairs and I don't think I've ever seen someone smile so much at the sight of me.
"Heya Charlotte," Liam said as I walked up to the door.
"Hi Liam," I replied, giving him a hug and him happily returning it. I saw my mum smirk out of the corner of my eye.
"You ready to go?" He asked, pulling himself back.
"Yup. I'll see you later mum," I said, turning to her and giving her a hug.
"Alright sweetie. Now don't have too much fun you too," She said, winking and causing Liam to laugh.
"I'll make sure she gets home safe. See you later Linda," He said, taking my hand and leading me out to the car. "Milady," He said with a very posh accent as he opened the passenger side door for me.
"That accent was actually pretty good," I said, laughing. I heard the drivers side door open and he climbed into the car.
"I didn't want to say this in front of your mother, but you look absolutely gorgeous," He said, turning the ignition and the car roaring to life.
"Aw thank you," I said, blushing a little bit. He smiled and proceeded to pull out of the driveway and start driving down the road.
"Now, which cafe do you want to go to?" He asked, as we pulled up to an intersection. I thought for a second and decided on my favourite cafe in town.
"Hot Bakery. Bland name but they're absolutely amazing," I said, him nodding and pulling through the intersection. As we went through the intersection, I heard a song come on the radio. It was So Far Away by Avenged Sevenfold. Usually I didn't listen to these guys, but I quite liked this song, so I turned up the radio, causing Liam to smile and look over at me.
"I don't think you realise how much I love this song," He said, turning back to looking at the road. I had a feeling we would have a nice time. I don't think I could be happier at the moment.
