Hi guys!
Wow, it sure has been awhile, sorry for the long break. I got cast in a show of my own recently, believe it or not, and have been at rehearsal which has messed with my schedule. I promise I'll try to do better with posting in the future:)
Anyway, for those of you who missed the previous chapter or just forgot, Kurt and Blaine decided to keep their roles, despite the romantic scenes they will have to play as Babette and Lumiere. Kurt has also begun developing feelings for Kaden, who may be playing a Beast in the show but definitely isn't one in real life.
And that's what you missed on glee!
I hope you enjoy this week's chapter!
As always:
I do NOT own Glee or any of the characters
If you notice any grammatical errors don't hesitate to reach out!
I still have pages of this story saved, so let me know if you'd be interested in seeing more chapters in the future!
"Are you ready?" Blaine and Kurt were standing in his dorm room, awkwardness lingering between them. They'd been rehearsing their romance scenes for the past thirty minutes, both skipping over the kisses.
Kurt nodded. "Yeah, I guess we should practice. Do you want to start with the first one? Just since it's the biggest deal."
"Sure. So I think it would make the most sense for me to kiss you. Mostly because of the blocking and the way our lines play out." Blaine explained, moving slightly closer.
"That's fine. Should we go over the lines before it? So we have something to work with?"
"Okay." Blaine straightened up a little, clearing his throat before beginning. "Ah, Babette. Come to me, my little fluff."
Kurt watched as Blaine lightly kissed his hand before jumping back with a sneeze. Kurt gasped, hurt in his eyes. "It's my hands, isn't it? You don't love me anymore!" He let out a cry of despair, turning away. "Oh, this horrible horrible spell!"
Blaine turned Kurt back around so they were once again facing each other. "Ah, cherie, you cut me to the wield. Do you think a little thing like that would change my feelings for you? Now you really..."
Blaine moved closer to Kurt, wrapping his arms around his waist. "Tickle my fancy." He said this quietly, staring directly into Kurt's eyes. He cupped Kurt's face in his hand, moving his thumb over his lips before gently kissing it.
Kurt slowly opened his eyes, immediately making contact with Blaine's. He stood there for what seemed like forever before awkwardly backing away. "I guess that went well. Should we... move on?"
"Yeah, sure. Do you think it looked real enough?"
"I don't know, I guess we'll find out at rehearsal." Kurt said, a tiny smile on his lips. "You know, we haven't really had time to talk. Is your mom still doing well?"
Blaine nodded. "She's good. Actually I think she's coming out to visit this weekend, so I'll get to see her again. It's kind of hard being away and knowing she's all alone."
"That makes sense. She'll come to see the show, right?"
"For sure, she wouldn't miss it." Blaine said with a laugh. "She might actually be more excited then I am."
"That's how my parents are too." Kurt picked at the seam of his script. "I like your dorm. It's really... nice."
"Thanks. I tried to make it as homey as possible." Blaine crossed to the other side of the room, eyes gleaming with mischief. "You haven't even seen the best part."
"What's that?" Kurt asked, watching as Blaine pulled out a box from the top of his closet.
"This." He opened it, spilling the contents onto his bed.
Kurt stifled a laugh. "You hide pastries in your closet? Does your roommate know?"
Blaine shook his head, ripping open a package of chocolate chip cookies. "Are you kidding? John's, like, the biggest sweet fan ever. If he knew about it everything would be gone in minutes."
"You're really proud of this, huh?" Kurt observed, watching Blaine eat two of the three cookies whole.
"Yeah, I guess you could say that." Blaine swallowed, nodding towards the big pile still on his bed. "Help yourself, I've got plenty."
Kurt happily obliged, and they spent the next twenty minutes talking and eating. "So, how do you like Juilliard?"
"Oh, it's great. I honestly couldn't be happier, everyone here is super nice." Blaine tossed a pile of wrappers in the general direction of his trash can, missing drastically. "It must be refreshing to not need to worry about being slushied in the middle of the hallway anymore."
"Ugh, tell me about it. You'd think that after four years you'd get used to it, but even now the memories still haunt me. The other day I found another red stain on one of my shirts." Kurt rolled his eyes, looking over at Blaine. He was still eating, and from where he sat Kurt could see the dust of powdered sugar from the doughnuts he'd consumed on his lower lip. "You um... you have some sugar on your mouth."
Blaine nodded. "Thanks. Would you... get it for me?"
Kurt hesitated before moving closer. The last time they were in this situation they'd kissed, and now that they were sitting here Kurt wasn't sure what to say or do. He felt himself being drawn to Blaine. It was happening again, much to his dismay. He knew Blaine was feeling it too- his eyes were wide and tentative. They were close, so close that only a few centimeters stood between them, and Kurt could smell the sugar on Blaine's breath. He shook this feeling of attraction away, bristling slightly. "Do you... have a napkin or something?"
"Yeah, over on my desk."
Kurt awkwardly stood, following Blaine's directions. He gently wiped away the sugar, placing the napkin in the garbage along with the wrappers. "I should probably go."
"What? But we didn't finish the scenes." Blaine said, wrinkling his brows in concern. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I just... forgot I have some things to do." Kurt lied, picking up his script. "I'll see you at rehearsal."
"Alright."
Kurt waited until he was back in his dorm before screaming loudly into his pillow. What was happening to him? It was like he couldn't pay attention to anything anymore. Frustrated, he grabbed his wallet, heading to the elevator. Maybe some gross cafeteria food would knock some sense into him.
Kurt spent the next couple months ignoring Blaine, focusing only on memorizing his lines and staying on top of his schoolwork. Both Gabe and Rachel had come to him with their concerns, but he'd blocked them out. He was fine, there was nothing wrong. It's just stress, he told himself. It's completely normal.
Before he knew it, opening night was there, and he was more terrified than ever. What if people laughed at him? Or threw tomatoes? He knew that only really happened in movies, but there was no guarantee.
"Are you okay? You've been staring at yourself in the mirror for the past ten minutes." Rachel observed. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail, the ends curled to perfection. Her blue and white dress cascaded around her like a waterfall, stopping just short of her ankles.
"What? I'm fine. You look amazing, I love the dress." Kurt complimented, trying to snap back to reality.
"Thanks, isn't it gorgeous? I feel like a princess." Rachel gave a twirl, watching as the dress flew in a circle. "You look great too, your outfit is phenomenal."
Kurt turned back to the mirror, taking in his appearance. He was wearing a simple yet elegant arrangement- a black feathered dress with a blonde wig and silver headpiece. "Yeah, well, here's to hoping I don't fall in front of everyone in these heels."
"You'll be fine, trust me." Kaden said, repositioning his mask.
"You sure do have a way of sneaking up on people, huh?" Kurt joked. "Nice mask."
"Nice dress." Kaden shot back. "You make a pretty attractive girl."
Kurt felt himself blush under all the layers of foundation he was wearing. Did Kaden just call him hot? "You're not too bad yourself." Oh god, did he say that out loud? Kurt immediately clamped his hand over his mouth, embarrassed. What was he thinking? Kaden probably thought he was a creep now.
But instead of laughing Kaden just smiled. "Why thank you. Now, if you two will excuse me I have a crown to retrieve."
The second he left Rachel practically squealed. "Oh my gosh, he likes you! When's the wedding?"
"Shh, someone might hear you!" Kurt hissed. "Besides, I'm sure he's not into me. You know what happened with Gabe- he probably just didn't realize how it sounded."
"Or maybe he was flirting because he wants to go out with you. I mean, come on. No straight guy would've complimented you like that. And remember when he said he liked your outfit after the cast list came out?" Rachel babbled, hopping around as she spoke.
"You're buying into this way too much, Rachel. Even if he is interested I don't even know if I'm ready to date again." Kurt confessed, repositioning his dress.
"I just don't see the big deal. You like him and he likes you, so why don't you go out?"
Kurt was about to answer this when Ms. Jackie stuck her head in. "Three minutes until curtain, take your places. And Rachel?"
"Yeah?"
"What have I told you about going into the boys dressing room?" Ms. Jackie said sternly.
"I'm sorry, I was just talking to Kurt. It won't happen again." Rachel assured, taking her basket and book from the table. "See you out there."
"Break a leg."
Act one went by remarkably fast, and surprisingly no one had a voice crack or stumbled over their lines. Before he knew it, opening night was over, and soon Kurt's family and friends were all over him, hugging him and giving him flowers. It was super nice to see everyone again, especially Mercedes.
Once everyone left Kurt headed back to the dressing room to change, opening the door in one swift movement.
Kaden looked up from where he was hanging up his costume, face lighting up. "Kurt, hey. Nice job out there tonight, you're a natural."
"Thanks, so are you." Kurt suddenly felt hot standing there. He wasn't sure if it was because he was wearing a warm dress, or maybe since he was super sweaty from being on stage. "How's it feel to be done with our first show?"
"Pretty good. Well, except for my toes. Rachel's not the best at slow dancing." Kaden said with a laugh. "What about you? How'd the tango go?"
Kurt shrugged. He knew him and Blaine should've spent more time practicing it, but he couldn't bring himself to. "I guess it was okay. No one's toes got squished, so that's a plus."
Kaden studied him. "So... are you doing anything tonight? Rachel and I were gonna go use this gift certificate I got for that new pizza place a few minutes away, but she bailed last minute to hang out with Finn. She said you might be interested?"
Kurt felt his breath catch. He didn't know how to feel. Leave it to Rachel to play matchmaker. "Well, um, I'm free. So yes, I'll go out with you. After all, It's not like I like you or anything! I… I mean…" Kurt willed himself to stop talking but for some reason the words kept flowing.
Kaden laughed. "You're really flustered. I'll swing by your dorm later. Oh, and Kurt?"
"Yeah?"
"If you want to make this a date I'd be down with it." Kaden said with a shrug.
"Really?" Kurt couldn't believe his ears.
"Yeah. I think you're really cute and I'd love to get to know you better." Kaden opened the door and stepped through. "It's up to you though."
Kurt nodded. "Yes. I'd like that."
"Cool. See ya." Kaden shut the door behind him, and the second he did Kurt sent Rachel a text to tell her what happened.
She responded immediately, and Kurt confidently faced the mirror again. It was crazy how fast a day could change. Now, as he stood there, he finally felt like himself again.
Well, that escalated quickly! Sorry for the short chapter, I was having trouble deciding on a stopping point. What are your thoughts on Kaden? I know a lot of you had reservations about Gabe (I got TONS of messages telling me that Kurt only belongs with Blaine) but hey, at least Kaden's gay too XD. Do you think there's still a spark between Kurt and Blaine that's worth saving? Let me know your predictions/ideas!
See you all next week!
