Happy Tuesday everyone!
I finally uploaded on schedule TWO TIMES IN A ROW! (so impressive, I know).
Anyway, if you for some reason missed last week's chapter, Kurt and Blaine worked to perfect their stage kiss (for those of you who don't know, stage kissing isn't actually "kissing" at all. Instead, one person places their thumb over the other person's mouth in a way that the audience can't see, giving the illusion that their lips are touching). Kurt also booked a date with Kaden, courtesy of Rachel, and has begun to develop feelings for him.
And that's about all! Let's get into it!
As always:
I do NOT own Glee or any of the characters
If you notice any grammatical errors don't hesitate to reach out!
I still have pages of this story saved, so let me know if you'd be interested in seeing more chapters in the future!
"Okay, favorite movie?" Kaden sipped from his milkshake. Kurt found it hilarious that even though they'd gone to a pizza restaurant both of them ended up just getting ice cream.
He took a sip of his own milkshake before answering. "That's hard, I guess I'd probably need to go with Pretty in Pink. What about you?"
"Oh, definitely Harry Potter. I just love the way they did the movies, they're so fun." Kaden finished his milkshake, moving the cup to the side. "What about ice cream? Do you prefer vanilla or chocolate?"
"Vanilla, easy. It's so much better."
"I disagree, chocolate all the way. Favorite pastime?"
"Singing."
"Surfing."
"Cats or dogs?"
"I guess if I have to choose I'll go with cat."
"Seriously? Cats are so mean!" Kaden joked. "Okay, how about this one. How many guys have you dated?"
Kurt paused. He had no idea where this conversation was going. "One. What about you?"
"None." Kaden nervously crossed his legs.
Kurt didn't really know how to respond to this. "Have you... dated girls?"
"No, not really. I kissed one once, but that's it. If you don't include stage kisses."
"Wait, so you've never been in a relationship?"
"I've been too nervous to pursue one. I don't know how my parents would react if I told them I'm gay. Scratch that, I know exactly what they'd do. My dad would lecture me about being a family disappointment and my mom would scream at the top of her lungs." Kaden said this lightly, but Kurt could tell it bothered him. "You're actually the only person I've told. Not even my best friend knows."
Kurt sat there, deep in thought. "So you're still in the closet?"
"Yes. Why?"
"No reason." Kurt finished his milkshake, throwing it into a nearby waste basket. "This was fun, thanks for inviting me."
"You're welcome. Do you want to come over for a little bit? My roommate's out with friends, so we'd have the whole place to ourselves."
Kurt sighed. "Actually I should get home. We can't be tired for tomorrow's production."
"That's true. Let's get out of here."
"What do you mean it didn't go well?" Rachel pressed, eyes wide. "I thought you liked him."
Kurt gave a small sigh. His date with Kaden had been two days ago and Rachel wouldn't stop pestering him about it. "I do. It's just... he hasn't really come out yet. And I don't know how I feel about it." Kurt was busy patting foundation on his face, already in costume. "Why are you here anyway? You heard what Ms. Jackie said about hanging out in the boys dressing room."
"I know, but no one's changing so what's the big deal? Besides, you need my help."
"Rachel, I don't need relationship help from you."
"No, I meant with your makeup. You're doing it all wrong, let me." Rachel took the sponge from Kurt, running it under some water. "Always make it wet first, that will help with application."
Kurt watched as Rachel finished blending it in, impressed by the end result. "Wow, you're good. Are you sad it's closing night?"
"Yeah, I am. I had no idea it would go by this fast. How do you feel about it?" Rachel tossed the sponge she'd been using into the trash.
Kurt shrugged. "I don't really know. I guess a part of me is sad. There's just... a lot going through my head right now and I'm trying to figure things out."
"Well, I'm here if you need to talk. We are friends, after all." Rachel applied liner to Kurt's eyes before stepping back. "Can you take it from here?"
"I think I'll manage." Kurt smiled once more at Rachel before she left. He finished his makeup with a light pink lipstick, looking at his reflection once again. He rolled his shoulders back, trying his best to appear confident. Perfect. He'd just need to fake it until he made it.
The show went even faster then the first two times they'd performed, and before he knew it Kurt was standing backstage once again, waiting for his cue. For some reason he was extra nervous tonight which was unlike him- usually his stage confidence was through the roof.
The lights went up, and the scene began. The dialogue seemed to flow perfectly, and soon it was time for Kurt to make his entrance. He shook out all his nerves before stepping out onto the stage.
Him and Blaine exchanged their dialogue, but Kurt couldn't focus on anything.
Well, except for Blaine's hair.
And his arms.
And the way his eyes lit up when he smiled.
And how cute his butt looked in those pants.
And how-
Suddenly Blaine was staring at him, urgency in his eyes. Kurt realized no one had said anything for a while. It was his line. Quickly snapping out of his trance, he spoke. "It's my hands, isn't it? You don't love me anymore!"
Blaine moved in closer, picking up the slack Kurt had left. He finished the first portion of his line, and then they were moving closer, arms around one another.
Kurt was sweating. The stage lights seemed extra hot, as if they were burning him from the inside out. A minute passed, both still standing there.
And then it happened.
They were kissing.
It took a minute for Kurt to realize he was not in fact kissing Blaine's finger, that their lips were actually touching. He didn't know how to respond, so he did the only thing he knew how- he deepened the kiss, pulling Blaine closer to him. He could hear the audience whispering, and that's when he finally came to terms with what was happening. He quickly jumped back, picking up where they'd left off.
The remainder of the show was awkward to say the very least. The rest of the cast would not shut up about what had happened, and a part of Kurt was excited when the show ended. He practically sprinted to the dressing room, wanting to change as quickly as possible so he could crawl under his bed and never come out. Unfortunately for him someone else was already in there.
Kaden.
Kurt avoided eye contact as he slowly undressed, willing Kaden not to speak. Of course this didn't work.
"So, um. That kiss tonight. I thought you guys were just stage kissing." Kaden said this calmly, like he wasn't at all fazed.
Kurt sighed. "So did I. It was weird." Weird? That was the understatement of the year.
Kaden nervously bit his cheek, leaning against the wall. "Are you mad at me? I just feel like ever since our date you've been kind of... distant."
"I... no, I'm not mad at you." Kurt folded his costume neatly, packing it into one of the boxes under the table. "I did want to talk to you though."
"Okay, I'm all ears." Kaden hoisted himself up onto the tabletop, watching as Kurt closed the lid to the box. "You can tell me, whatever it is."
"I don't think we should go out anymore." Kurt blurted. He felt a pang of guilt in his chest as he said this, unsure of what to do.
Kaden looked like he was going to cry. "Um... what changed? I just thought things were going well."
Kurt closed his eyes before continuing. He knew he wouldn't be able to say what he needed to while watching Kaden fall apart. "I think you're really attractive and nice, and you have great hair. I just... I don't think we're very compatible. We're so different, and that's not a bad thing, I just don't know if we can move past it. You're also still in the closet, which is completely fine, but not really ideal for a relationship." Kurt peeked at Kaden as he said this, trying to read his expression.
But all Kaden did was nod. "Okay. I understand. Thanks for being honest with me."
Kurt blinked once, twice. He could barely believe what he was hearing. "You're not... upset?"
Kaden shrugged. "I'm sad, but not upset. You're right, we are really different people. I completely get it."
Kurt let out a sigh of relief. "You have no idea how good it feels to hear that. I still want to be friends, you're a super cool guy. And don't take it personally. I don't think I'm ready to date anyway."
Kaden smiled. "I'd love to still be friends. I was thinking of throwing a small cast party this weekend, do you want to come?"
"I'd love to." Kurt gave him a hug before stepping back. "Good job tonight."
"You too. You really embraced your inner Babette." He paused, biting his lip. "And that sounded way cooler in my head."
Kurt laughed. "I liked it. See you this weekend I guess."
"I'll see you then."
"This place is awesome!" Rachel exclaimed. "Isn't it cool Kurt?"
"Yeah, super cool." Kurt faked a smile as he said this. After spending the rest of the week thinking he'd ultimately decided that going to Kaden's party probably wasn't the best idea. He didn't want things to be weird between them, and the last thing he wanted was to encounter Blaine. They still hadn't spoken since the whole kiss thing, and he was not looking forward to addressing it. In the end he'd agreed to go to the party, mostly because it was between that and watching Gabe and Heather make out on the couch.
"Welcome." Kaden said, approaching them. "Can I offer you a beverage? We have soda, beer, and wine coolers. Take your pick."
"I'll take a wine cooler, please." Rachel said.
Kaden nodded. "Alright. And for you?"
"Pepsi's fine. Thanks." Kurt offered Kaden a smile which he immediately returned. Maybe the night wouldn't be so bad after all.
Kurt spent most of the party keeping an eye on Rachel, who somehow managed to get tipsy after only two drinks. He talked briefly with a few theater kids, and spent some time on the dance floor.
Just as he was about to gather Rachel and head out he felt a hand brush against his arm. He rolled his eyes. "Kaden, I already told you. I don't want any beer."
"Last time I checked my name's not Kaden."
Kurt swiveled around to see Blaine standing there, drink in hand. "Blaine! What are you doing here?"
"Same as you I guess. Drinking Pepsi and watching Rachel make a complete fool of herself." Blaine took a sip of soda, setting his cup on a nearby table. "Can we talk?"
Kurt shrugged. "I mean, we could. I don't really want to though."
Blaine rolled his eyes at this comment. "It won't take long." He looked around the room, spotting an empty corner. "Come on."
Kurt followed him, weaving through the crowd. When they finally reached their destination he sat against the wall next to Blaine, trying to seem nonchalant. "So. What is it you want to talk about?"
"You know what. The kiss." Blaine lowered his voice as he said this, as if everyone in the room hadn't witnessed their impromptu make out session. "I'm just curious. Why did you kiss me?"
Kurt couldn't believe his ears. "Huh? You're the one who kissed me!"
"No way, it was you!"
"Blaine, I was just standing there!"
"Well if it wasn't either of us who was it?"
Kurt sighed. "I... I don't know. How about we both just forget about it and move on?"
Blaine raised an eyebrow. "Forget about it? How am I supposed to do that?"
Kurt shrugged. "It shouldn't be too hard. I mean, it's not like it meant anything. We were just acting."
"Really? Because I feel like we weren't." Blaine sighed. "Kurt, you know how I feel about you. I told you at the hospital. Can't you just accept the fact that maybe it did mean something?"
"It didn't." Kurt said firmly. "I don't know why it happened but I do know that it's not because I have feelings for you. I don't." He said this as confidently as he could before standing. "Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to the dorms."
"Kurt-"
"No. I'm done with this conversation."
THEY ACTUALLY KISSED!
I know a lot of you were disappointed with the Kaden situation... how do you like this twist?
So, what do you think? Is there still a spark there? Let me know in the comments, I love hearing your opinions and ideas!:D
