Another Encounter
Middleton High was buzzing with activity in the halls. While the other students were busy with their own business, a certain...new student was in a different area of the campus.
From the doors of the principal's office, Cale emerged with a schedule in his hand; one that had his locker number and combination as well as his set of classes he was assigned to. Checking his smartphone, the boy discovered that while it was first day at a new school, he still had an ample amount of time to obtain his textbooks that were required for his assigned classes from the library.
The librarian named Miss Hatchet gave off bad vibes to Cale. This elderly woman had a sadistic side in her; a side that Cale instantly felt when he was near her. Once his textbooks were acquired, he makes his way to his assigned locker. After placing the stack on the floor temporarily, Cale inputs the locker combination that was provided for his assigned locker. The boy found it stuck at first when he tried to open it. After pounding it a few times, it finally opens smoothly before he starts to load it with the textbooks he recently received.
Meanwhile in another area of the hallway, Kim got to her own locker as she recently opened it after inputting her combination before she activated her computer that was inside. The screen shows static at first before it clears up to reveal Wade sitting on his desk.
"Morning Kim." he greets.
"Wade?" Kim begins. "Any sign of him?"
Wade begins typing on his keyboard rapidly before he stops to look at his computer. As he was, Ron arrived to Kim's locker while greeting.
"Hey KP." he sees Kim watching Wade. "What's up? New mission?"
Kim turns around to see Ron behind her as she greets
"Hey Ron."
"Kim!" Wade says, catching Kim and Ron's attention. "I got a lock on this guy named Cale. He's approximately..."
Before their friend can give further information, the two teens hear a voice that belonged to a girl practically shouting.
"Hey girls! Check out the new meat!"
Kim and Ron looked in the direction that some of the girls were taking. Then, they see a raven-haired boy at a distance; one that Kim instantly recognized.
In the perspective of every other girl who was not familiar with him, the newcomer was quite a looker to them. He had jet black hair, blue sapphire eyes clad in an outfit that consisted of a white t-shirt, black jeans, a dark gray flannel, that remained unbuttoned, and black shoes. On his right ring finger, there was a 24K gold and black ring and his left arm had a black and gold g-shock watch with the face on the ulnar wrist. Despite that his focus was on his schedule and listening to music through wireless ear buds as he walked, there were comments and questions about him amongst the female population.
"Looks like a fresh one."
"Me like."
"Hello handsome!"
"Is he single?"
"Call me?"
Even the cheerleading squad let out a lovesick sigh upon seeing Cale. However, most of the male population glared at him with jealousy before they went about their business. At a far distance, Kim was focused on Cale's arrival as she had a smile on her face; a smile that Ron instantly noticed.
"KP? You know this guy?" he asks.
Then, Mr. Barkin arrives in the hallways as he...well, barked
"All right! All right! This is a high school, not a dating service! GET TO CLASS!"
Upon the substitute teacher's shout, every teen girl who was too busy ogling at Cale instantly bolt to get to their respective classes to avoid detention. While the raven-haired boy searched for the classroom he was supposed to locate, he looks up from his schedule to see a certain redhead whom he was familiar with, accompanied by a boy who had freckles, blond hair, brown eyes and dressed in a red jersey over a long-sleeved turtleneck that was navy blue, brown cargo pants, and white sneakers.
After pausing his music with a touch of his ear bud, Cale removes them with a free hand as he greets
"Hey Kim."
"Fancy meeting you again." Kim greets with a smile, clearly happy to see him.
Then, Ron shook hands with Cale after the raven-haired boy placed his wireless ear buds in its case as he said.
"So you're Cale who KP told me about. Nice to meet you."
"You too, um..."
It was then that Kim spoke up
"Cale, this is my best friend Ron Stoppable."
The boy started to chuckle a bit before he calmed down.
"I'm sorry." Cale says. "It's just that..." he points to Kim, "your name", he points to Ron, " and his name...I'm sensing some puns here."
"I know, right?" Kim said with an eyeroll and a smile.
Then, Cale sees something small and pink crawling from Ron's pocket before it climbs onto the blond boy's shoulder and then squeaked.
"Hi."
The little creature startled Cale as he jumped back a little.
"What is that?!"
"Oh, this little guy is Rufus." Ron says as Rufus took a bow. "He's a naked mole rat."
"Those two are practically inseparable." Kim comments.
It was then that Cale calmed down before he held out his index for Rufus to grasp in his paw.
"Nice to meet you too little guy, and...try not to scare me like that again."
"Sorry." Rufus squeaked.
"Don't worry about it."
"So Cale," Ron says, getting Cale's attention. "Mind if I see your schedule?"
"Be my guest." Cale replies while handing the paper.
Ron takes a look for a solid minute at the schedule, seeing the classes that Cale was assigned to. Then, the blond grinned before he said with excitement.
"No way! You have all the classes with me and KP; except for one."
"In that case, do you know where homeroom is located?" Cale asks. "I'm a little lost since I'm new here."
"Right this way." Ron replies as he returns Cale's schedule to him.
While Ron leads the way, Kim couldn't help but gain a pleased look as she followed the two boys after closing her locker.
Fourth period recently ended as every student in the school were at their respective lockers before leaving for the cafeteria. At a particular one, Cale was placing his backpack and textbooks into his before closing it. However, when he turns to his right to depart for the cafeteria, Cale sees a tall football jock in front of him. The jock in question had blond hair, teal eyes, and a muscular build. He wore a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and jacket that possessed the colors of Middleton High school.
In addition, Cale saw that this jock clearly wasn't happy to see him.
"You think you're all hot stuff just because you're the new guy, don't you?" the jock asks with a glare.
Cale simply and calmly says
"Pardon me. I'm late for lunch."
When Cale attempted to walk around, the jock blocked his path as he said
"You're not going anywhere!"
However, while the jock was glaring at him, Cale noticed movement behind the said jock as he said
"Look, Brick was it?"
"Yeah, what about it?" Brick retorts.
"Listen." Cale says in a reasoning voice. "I don't want any trouble, but I don't want you to get in trouble either."
"Why should I believe you?" Brick asks in a challenging tone.
"Because Mr. Barkin is at your six, fifty-five feet away." Cale replies.
Looking back, Brick discovered that Cale was correct; seeing Mr. Barkin hanging up several bulletins on a bulletin board. The jock looks at Cale once more, realizing that the new boy was trying to keep him out of trouble, despite being hostile.
"Whoa. Thanks for the save." Brick says in a humble tone. "And no hard feelings for my attitude?"
"Brick, let's forget what just happened and move on." Cale suggests.
"Cool." Brick says in agreement.
Then, as Cale walks towards the cafeteria, Brick couldn't help but comment to the raven-haired boy
"I'm surprised that you didn't want to fight me."
Turning around, Cale says to the jock.
"I only fight as a last resort when there's no other way to settle disputes peaceably."
"Peaceably, how?" Brick asks.
"Talking it out basically until both parties reach an agreement." Cale said with a shrug.
Brick nods in agreement before he said.
"I'll remember that."
Cale simply smiled and nodded as well before walking towards the cafeteria.
In the cafeteria, every student was sitting at his or her seat of a table, enjoying their lunch. However, a random girl sees someone in line about to receive their lunch before she whispers to another girl next to her
"Hottie in the house! Spread the word!"
As quick as wildfire, word spreads to every girl in the cafeteria as Cale received his lunch on his tray before he walks to sit at a table. However, it was easier said than done as the boy looked around to find a seat. In addition to that, Cale subtly noticed that the majority of the girls were once again drooling at him. Some of them even gave him a flirty wave as they all possessed a lovesick smile while staring at him.
"Okay, why are they still staring at me like that?"
Even in class, Cale noticed that the girls were ogling at him as well. It literally took Mr. Barkin to get their attention by threatening detention to them, despite that it only worked for a short period of time.
However, only a certain redhead actually paid attention in all of the classes he attended thus far.
Eventually, Cale sees that Ron noticed him and waves as a signal to come over. The raven-haired boy approaches the table as Kim looked back to see him coming before he took a seat next to her.
"Thanks for the save." Cale says.
"No problem." Ron replies.
Then, Kim proceeds to ask Cale
"How do you like it here so far?"
"Well, it's far different from Animo Robinson High, that's for sure." Cale says as he eats his lunch. "Although, I didn't know that Mr. Barkin can teach in almost every subject."
"Yeah. You can say that Mr. B is a one-man teacher in that department." Ron comments.
"Uh huh." Rufus squeaked.
Cale sees the naked mole rat on the table with Ron as he said
"One thing for sure though, my old high school wouldn't exactly allow pets on campus unless they're service animals."
"Rufus isn't a pet." Ron corrects before he hugs Rufus which in turn, the little creature hugs the blond boy's head. "He's family."
Cale instantly sees his mistake as he said in an apologetic tone.
"Sorry about that."
"Hey, it's cool." Ron says while Rufus nods in agreement.
Kim subtly glanced at Cale as a smile crept up on her face. The redhead noticed that he was good-natured, seeing that he sincerely apologized and was getting along well with Ron. However, a feminine voice spoke up; one that Kim instantly recognized, but Cale was unfamiliar with.
"Kim Possible!"
Cale glanced at the source of the feminine, snobby-sounding voice; there was a girl who had a physique similar to Kim's. She had brown hair, teal eyes, and quite a lovely tan wearing a pink midriff bearing top, maroon skirt, and white shoes. However, the expression on her was rather...unpleasant, especially when he noticed that Kim groaned, clearly unhappy to see her.
"Hey...Bonnie."
"I see you're still able to make it to school, despite your "world-saving duties" popping up now and then." Bonnie shot.
Cale got annoyed at that, witnessing Bonnie using air quotes when she took a crack at Kim. Soon, the brunette puts on a sweet smile as her focus shifts directly towards Cale.
"So Cale, sweetie, what do you say you ditch these losers and sit with me at the senior table?"
Instead of accepting Bonnie's offer, the raven-haired boy glares at her as he said
"Sorry, but I socialize with no one from the shallow end of the gene pool."
In Bonnie's perspective, time literally came to a screeching halt as she looked like she just got slapped in the face. This raven-haired boy literally rejected her offer and wasn't being polite about it either. Kim could only stare with wide eyes while Ron and Rufus had their mouths dropped when they heard Cale's words.
The brunette glared at Cale as she asked
"Excuse me? Care to repeat that?"
"Gladly." Cale replies as he stood up.
Then, he looks Bonnie with a hardened glare before he said to her
"I said I socialize with no one from the shallow end of the gene pool."
Bonnie was shocked that Cale said the same thing twice without hesitation or intimidation. Soon, she resumes glaring at him and asks.
"Just who do you think you are talking to me like that?"
"Well, what gives you the right to insult Kim like nobody's business?" Cale counters.
Kim was surprised that Cale is defending her against Bonnie's hostility as she heard him say to the snobby brunette.
"You should be grateful that Kim is doing what she can to ensure that even you are still alive."
Bonnie was stunned silent for a moment that this raven-haired boy standing before her, prefers her rival's company over hers. Even the students were silent while they witnessed the exchange between the two teens. Eventually, the brunette scoffed before she said while maintaining her glare.
"You know something, I thought you were hot when you first arrived here. Now, I've just decided you're not!"
Cale rolls his eyes in annoyance with a scoff before he replies.
"I've just decided I don't care."
Bonnie huffs before walking away as Cale sat back down while everyone else applauded Cale for standing up for Kim before returning to their business.
"Thanks for that." Kim says in gratitude.
"You're welcome."
Ron and Rufus were genuinely impressed with what just transpired when they regained their senses as the blond boy commented
"I can't believe you stood up to Bonnie that way. That was incredible!"
"Yeah." Rufus squeaked.
"I don't like bullies, plain and simple." Cale replies.
Then, the raven-haired boy glanced at the said snobby brunette before he comments.
"Besides, she reminds me of Heather in more ways than one."
"Who's Heather?" Kim asks out of curiosity.
"Head cheerleader at my old high school." Cale explains. "Pretty, but horrible. I once had a crush on her; emphasis on HAD."
"What happened?" Ron asks while Rufus looked like he rose an eyebrow.
"How would you feel if your crush asked you out, but it was all a ruse just so they can make their crush feel jealousy?" Cale asks.
Both of the teens were shocked at Cale's question which was a subtle explanation as Kim said
"Ouch."
"Harsh dude." Ron comments.
"Yeah." Cale says with a small nod. "The way Heather used me, is the reason why my friend Ashley despises cheerleaders."
Kim and Ron understood as they both decided to change the subject.
"By the way, does your old town have a Bueno Nacho over there?" Ron asks.
"One opened in Los Angeles almost two weeks ago before my family and I moved to Middleton." Cale explains. "I've also heard that there's one here."
"Oh, you're going to love it there." Ron says with excitement. "It's the best place to eat at."
"Yeah!" Rufus says in agreement.
Cale considers the offer before he says.
"Perhaps if I am free this Saturday, I'll swing by there."
"Cool!" Both Rufus and Ron went with enthusiasm.
Kim couldn't help but have a small smile as she witnessed Cale and her best friend getting along with one another.
It was the end of the school day when most of the students were going home. While Cale already went home, Kim was at cheer practice nearing its end as she and the other cheerleaders were in the locker room changing from their cheer uniforms to their usual attire. There was chatter amongst them, on one...particular raven-haired boy who first arrived.
"So, what's your take on the new guy?" a girl with blond, curly hair named Tara asks.
"If you're obviously talking about Cale..." a different redhead named Liz comments. "WAY easy on the eyes."
"Tell me about it." a brunette with curly hair named Crystal says in agreement.
"Look-wise, I give him a nine." another blond girl named Jessica says.
"Nine? I'd say a solid ten." a girl with black hair named Marcella said with a dreamy voice.
"Yeah, not bad." Hope says with impression.
However, there was one cheerleader who didn't agree as she scoffed off their comments and said.
"Oh please! The new guy isn't that impressive in my opinion. He may be hot in the 'looks department'," Bonnie used air quotes. "But he's still a loser."
"Says the girl who made a very bad impression on him in the cafeteria." Kim said with a smirk
Bonnie just growled in frustration before she gathered her belongings and stomped out of the locker room.
With Kim, her thoughts were mostly on Cale, defending her from Drakken and Shego, befriending Ron, and when he took a stand against Bonnie in the cafeteria during lunch.
During the evening, with his homework completed, Cale was sitting at his desk with his laptop currently on. He was in a video chat with two teenagers. One was a girl with dirty blond hair, hazel eyes and fair skin. The other was a Japanese-american boy who had black hair that was barely touching his ears, brown eyes, and all of them were in their sleep clothes.
"So how's Middleton?" the girl asks.
"To be honest Ashley, it's quite different from Los Angeles." Cale replies before adding subtly. "And quite interesting."
"I was thinking that Ashley and I can swing by this weekend." the boy suggests. "It'll be like old times since things are boring without you back in L.A."
"Oh. Sorry Hanzo." Cale says in an apologetic tone. "I've already made plans."
"Say what?" Hanzo replies in surprise. "Did you meet new friends?"
"Yeah." Cale admits with a smile.
Ashley gives a friendly scoff before she says
"That was fast. So what are their names?"
"Well..." Cale begins with a small blush. "After my folks and I settled in, the first person I've met; her name is Kim. Then, during my first day at Middleton High, she introduced me to her best friend named Ron."
It was then that Ashley interrupted Cale in an instant.
"Wait a minute! You met a girl after you and your folks moved in?" Ashley raised an eyebrow. "She's not a cheerleader, is she?"
"I do not know." Cale replies honestly. "But regardless of that, I can see that Kim is the complete opposite of Heather..." he pauses. "In more ways than one in my opinion."
"How can you be certain?" Ashley asks out of concern.
"Because I'm taking my time to get to know her better; regardless how long it'll take." Cale said with reasoning.
The blond girl rolled her eyes at her friend's response, something that Cale noticed before he said
"Look, I know you still have a major beef with Heather after she used me and even if Kim is a cheerleader, I can assure you that she's nothing like her."
"Whatever Cale." Ashley says. "My opinion of her will remain neutral until further notice. I'll talk to you guys later."
The video screen of Ashley blacks out, signifying that the girl signed off, leaving Cale and Hanzo as the only ones left online.
"Don't sweat it." Hanzo assures. "You know how stubborn she is."
"I know." Cale replies.
"Hey, just between you and me, you're crushing on this girl Kim, aren't you?" Hanzo asks with a sly look.
Cale was silent for a few seconds before he smiles, as if he got busted and said
"Yeah. Despite that we recently met."
"Well, even though you said she's the opposite of Heather, be careful." Hanzo advises.
"Yeah I know." Cale says.
Eventually, both boys logged off the video as the screen was now black. Cale closes his laptop before he lies on his bed, staring at the ceiling.
"I know Ashley despises Heather, but Kim's not like that, even IF she's a cheerleader." Cale thought in silence.
Soon, the boy gets up before going on both knees on the floor in a seiza posture and closed his eyes to clear his mind off of the recent video chat with his friends.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Ashley closed her own laptop before walking to her dresser. On the mirror of her dresser, she had a few pictures that she took with Cale and Hanzo. However, she removed one picture in particular; one that she took with Cale alone, to take a look at it.
"Cale..." Ashley manages to whisper.
The girl stared at the photo for a full 2 minutes. Eventually, she placed it back on her mirror before lying down on her bed staring at the ceiling of her room as she thought of the very day that Cale left for Middleton.
Flashback:
It was a cloudy Thursday. At a mall called Hollywood and Highland, Hanzo and Ashley were sitting at one of the food court tables, waiting for Cale to arrive.
"Wonder what Cale needed to see us here for?" Hanzo asks.
"Good question." Ashley replies.
Hanzo noticed the curiosity as he asked.
"He didn't tell you anything?"
"No."
Then, they look to their respective sides and saw Cale approaching them as the teens stood up to meet him.
"Hey Cale." Ashley greets.
"What's going on dude?" Hanzo asks. "I know that you bailed out of school early, but why call us to meet here?"
"Well, I've got good news and bad news." Cale replies.
"Better start with the good news." Ashley says nervously.
"Well, the good news is that my parents got promoted in their jobs." Cale said to them.
Ashley smiled excitedly as she happily said to him.
"Oh! That's great!"
"Yeah, but the bad news is..." Cale pauses which got them worried. "We're moving to Middleton as of tomorrow-morning, especially since we've packed since Monday."
Both of his friends were stunned at the news of Cale leaving. After a minute of silence, Hanzo approached Cale before the two shared a manly hug.
"I'm going to miss you bro." Hanzo says.
"Me too Han." Cale replies.
"If Middleton has a Bueno Nacho over there, steer clear of that place." Hanzo warns with a shudder.
"Yeah, even though you never explained why."
Once Hanzo left the food court, it was just Cale and Ashley who remained at the table. The raven-haired boy didn't hear his friend speak up at first. It was as if she didn't want to speak at all. Cale knew what he had to do, as if it was a silent call. In an instant when Cale simply spreads his arms, Ashley ran to him. They embraced one another when she got in range. After several minutes, Ashley looked at Cale, looking like she wanted to cry, but held back her tears.
"I wish you didn't have to leave." Ashley says in a sad tone.
"I know." Cale replies. "But I have no choice. Whenever I have free time, I'll try and swing by Los Angeles."
"Don't make a girl a promise, if you know you can't keep it." Ashley says.
"I know." Cale replies. "And I know that you and Hanzo will keep my secret safe."
"Always." Ashley simply said.
"So long Ashley."
As Cale walked away to leave the complex, it was then that Ashley started shedding tears while watching him depart for one final time, knowing that she won't see him as often as she used to any longer. Once Cale was no longer in sight, Ashley whispers
"Goodbye...Cale."
Flashback Ends:
Days have passed and it was now Saturday in the morning. Cale was already awakened and recently finished breakfast. After getting dressed and packing his backpack, the boy grabs his rollerblades and leaves his room to reach the front door of his home. As he walked by the living room, Katherine and Sam see him leaving as the man asked.
"Heading out?"
"Yeah." Cale replies. "Kim and Ron are expecting me at this Bueno Nacho that's here in Middleton."
Katherine couldn't help but smirk before she said
"Well, I, for one, want to meet this Kim girl one of these days."
Cale chuckled before he said.
"I'll make a note of that, mom."
"Have a good time." Katherine says.
"Will do."
Once Cale leaves the house, he places on his rollerblades, puts his shoes in his backpack, and then skates down the neighborhood. As he was approaching a block and started shifting to the right in order to make a turn, he didn't know that there were two pairs of eyes watching his every move from a bush.
Behind that particular bush, Jim and Tim ducked to avoid being seen as Tim said.
"Here he comes. Lock and load."
The two boys grabbed some water balloons from a bucket and waited until their target was in range.
As Cale was about to turn right, he sees two identical boys with brown hair, blue eyes but wore different clothing, pop out of the bush and began to run to him to try and pelt him with their water-loaded ammo.
"Oh!"
As the raven-haired teen boy skates away in haste while dodging the balloons that were hurled by his assailants, he shouts at them.
"Hey, come on! Stop! Stop playing!"
Cale continues to skate even faster as he began to outdistance his attackers while they stopped running. Turning around to skate backwards, he taunts them.
"What now?! You can't even catch a paperboy at your speed, little punks!"
However, he didn't see that a car was backing out of a driveway. As the raven-haired boy laughed in a taunting manner while turning around to skate forward, he finally notices as the vehicle stopped.
"OH SNAP!" Cale shouts.
While the driver honked the horn, Cale flipped over the trunk of the car before he stuck the landing perfectly. Jim and Tim's jaws dropped when they see their fleeing target did that stunt before they slowly looked at one another while still in shock.
The raven-haired boy looks back to see that his attacking pranksters were no longer in pursuit as he breathed a sigh of relief before he continues to skate to his intended destination.
In an area near the Smarty Mart, Kim was patiently waiting for someone who was supposed to arrive to meet her there. About 5 minutes later, she looks to her left to see Cale quickly approaching before he slows his speed to a stop.
"Sorry I'm late." Cale apologizes.
"It's no big." Kim replies.
As Cale sits on the curb to remove his rollerblades and put on his shoes, he says to her
"On my way here, I got attacked by a pair of knuckleheads with water balloons."
Kim slightly gasped in concern before she said as Cale stood up after attached his skates to his backpack.
"Oh no! They didn't get you, did they?"
"Nah!" Cale said with a smirk while shaking his head. "I outclassed them in both speed and style."
"Spankin!" Kim smiled. "So, shall we head to Bueno Nacho?"
"Lead the way."
The two teens walked off to Bueno Nacho side by side.
Meanwhile, at the Middleton train station, there were two teenage visitors emerging from the train before one of them took out her smartphone to open an app which had a map of the city.
"Ashley, you know that Cale's booked, right? Finding him will be like finding a needle in a haystack."
"Doesn't mean that we can't try and find him to pay him a surprise visit." Ashley says as she pockets her device.
"Whatever." Hanzo says with an eyeroll.
"Come on, Hanzo."
Hanzo and Ashley walked to the exit of the train station to try and find their friend.
At the Possible residence, Jim and Tim were entering the house, completely disappointed.
"How did he do that?" Jim asks.
"I don't know, but I got a feeling he's no ordinary paperboy." Tim says.
Suddenly, the two boys see James reading a newspaper at the dining room table as they got curious
"Dad?"
"Where did you get that paper?"
"Oh I got it earlier when the paperboy just swung by here while you two were out." James replied
What James said completely stunned the boys as they had worried looks
"You mean..." Jim said to Tim
"That guy we chased wasn't the paperboy?" Tim finished, equally worried.
James heard it and quickly lowered his paper to see the empty bucket in one of his son's hand as he scowled, getting upset.
"Boys! We're you panning to pelt the paperboy with water balloons again?!"
Both boys smile sheepishly as they tried to hide the bucket in vain, knowing that they got busted.
Back in the city, Cale and Kim finally arrive at Bueno Nacho as it was noon. The raven-haired boy takes a minute to see the restaurant that had a sombrero hat for a roof and a sign on a lamppost shaped like a taco.
"So, this is it." he comments. "Looks like the one back in my hometown."
"It's a popular hangout here in Middleton." Kim says. "Come on, I'll show you the menu."
The teens proceed inside the restaurant. Once they step, Cale sees Ron scarfing down what appeared to be a taco before the blond boy noticed them and waved while calling with his mouth full of food
"KP! Cale!"
The two approached the table where Ron was sitting at as the raven-haired boy said
"I'm surprised to see you here."
"Yeah. Got here ten minutes ago." Ron replies
"Sorry if I kept you waiting." Cale says.
"Dude, it's all good." Ron says with a dismissal hand gesture.
Soon, Kim takes Cale's hand into her own and said
"Come on. I'll show you what they have."
With Ashley and Hanzo, they were leaving Smarty Mart while the girl taps her smartphone.
"Whoever this Kim is, she sure is making Cale lead us on a wild goose chase; but at least he was here." Ashley comments.
"In case you're not noticing, we probably won't find him by the time we have to get home." Hanzo says.
Ashley dismisses her friend's claim as she said
"Ah, quit your bawling!"
As they walked off, the Japanese boy says
"Can we at least make a pit stop somewhere? I'm getting hungry."
Back at Bueno Nacho, Kim and Cale took a seat as the boy eyed his ordered in suspicion.
"The naco?"
"It's basically a taco with nachos inside it." Kim explains to Cale.
"And nature's perfect food!" Ron boasts. "Great choice, dude."
"Yeah!" Rufus squeaked.
Cale sees Rufus on the table, but also noticed that no one was making any complaints on the little creature being in the restaurant.
"I'm surprised that management hasn't complained about Rufus at all." Cale says.
Ron shrugs before he says
"Eh, they don't really care about the little guy being here. Go on, Cale. Try it."
The raven-haired boy eyes his food as he picked it up while thinking of Hanzo's previous warning about the place. Cale takes a bite and chews it slowly while Ron and Rufus watch with a hopeful smile. However, Cale makes an unrecognizable expression as he slowly resumed chewing the food while thinking
"So that's why Hanzo warned me."
After swallowing the food with...much difficulty, Kim asks out of concern.
"Are you okay?"
"Of course he's okay! Cale got his first naco after all!" Ron says with excitement
As Rufus squealed in delight, Cale says with a hesitant tone that Kim instantly recognized but Ron was oblivious to
"Yeah. It's really...something."
"Rufus and I eat here all the time." Ron comments.
Hearing what Ron recently made Cale nearly drop his food as he asks in shock
"All the time, as in every single day?" He sees Ron nod. "Is this where you live?"
Ron scoffs before he replies.
"I wish! Rufus and I are just regulars here." Ron suddenly feels a rumble in his stomach. "Could you excuse me? I need to use the men's room. Be right back."
Once Ron enters the restroom and closes the door, Cale placed the naco back and pushes the tray away as he said in disgust.
"Ugh..."
"Didn't like it?" Kim asks.
"No." Cale replies. "Now I know why Hanzo warned me to steer clear of this place."
Rufus overheard it as he angrily makes his way towards Cale while the boy said to Kim
"I'm not going to lie. It tasted...awful. The tortilla was bland, the meat felt undercooked and the sauce tasted like it was store bought."
Suddenly, Kim sees movement as she said
"Uh oh!"
Looking down, Cale sees Rufus glaring at him as he squeaked like he was ranting while angrily shaking his paw at him.
"I'm guessing Rufus likes this place?" Cale asks.
"More than you know." Kim replies.
Cale tries to be civilized to Rufus as he said
"Look Rufus, I'm sorry for what I said, but please don't tell Ron and I'll let you have this."
At first, Rufus shook his head while squeaking "Uh uh" before turning around and crossing his paws over his chest. However, temptation got to the little creature as he looked back at the naco. After looking at Cale once more, Rufus just nods and then squeaked
"Okay."
The naked mole rat dives into the naco and eats it from the inside out as Cale and Kim watch.
"At least he's easy to bribe."
Then, Kim stood up as she said
"Come on, we can stop by Cow and Chow on the way to the mall. There's someone I want you to meet as well."
Eventually both teens left Bueno Nacho while Rufus was nearly finished eating Cale's naco he left behind.
Ten minutes have passed since Cale and Kim made their departure as Ashley and Hanzo approached the restaurant. The mere sight of it was more than enough to cause the Japanese boy to groan in disgust.
"Oh no! ANYWHERE but there!"
"What's with you?" Ashley asks annoyed.
"That place has the nastiest food ever served!" Hanzo says. "I tried it once and I had to run to the bathroom all day!"
"We're here to find Cale, remember?" Ashley retorts. "He could be there."
She pulls out her smartphone and looks at the app.
"Besides, there's a Cow and Chow nearby so we'll go there for a bite after."
As they walked to the entrance, Hanzo mumbles.
"I hope he's not in there, for his sake."
Ron exits Bueno Nacho with Rufus on his shoulder as he sees two teens he never saw before; a girl with dirty blond hair tied in a ponytail, hazel eyes, and clad with a sleeveless black top that revealed her midriff, camouflage colored parachute pants, and gray shoes, accompanied by a boy who was Japanese in origin with slicked back black hair, brown eyes and wearing a red shirt, black cargo shorts that went past his knees, black shoes, and a red and black cap that had a yin yang symbol on the front, but it was worn backwards.
"Excuse me." Ashley says
"Can I help you?" Ron asks.
"Yes. We're looking for a friend of ours. His..." she pauses and sees Rufus on Ron's shoulder. "Oh! How cute! A little naked mole rat!"
As Ron lets Rufus crawl to Ashley, he asks "You have one?"
"No, but they're cute little animals in my opinion." Ashley says as she gently pets Rufus on the head with her finger.
"Ashley..." Hanzo says.
"Oh right! Sorry Hanzo." Ashley says before she clears her throat. "Our friend's name is Cale."
It was then that Ron interrupts and asks
"Wait! Does this Cale have a black backpack with rollerblades attached to it?"
"Yeah. How did you know?" Hanzo asks in surprise.
"He and my best friend KP just left ten minutes before you got here." Ron explains.
"You mean he was here?!" Ashley asks in shock.
While Ron nods in response, Hanzo groans as he says
"Oh man! I hope he didn't eat any of that junk here!"
Ashley shook her head with an annoyed sigh before her eyes suddenly widened in fear.
"Uh...Han?"
Hanzo continues his rant
"I mean, what's with the hype of this joint? Chipotle tastes better in my honest opinion!"
"Han...?"
"And who the heck invented the naco?!" Hanzo says. "That bum should get his culinary license revoked, big time!"
"HANZO!" Ashley finally shouts.
"What?!" Hanzo asks in annoyance
Ashley points with her finger in horror. Turning around, Hanzo sees a very angry Ron as the blond boy asks
"What did you just say?!"
"Uh oh!" both Ashley and Rufus went.
Cale and Kim arrived at the Middleton mall several minutes after stopping at Cow and Chow. When Cale simply ordered a hamburger, the boy enjoyed it to the point where he completely finished it. Right now, they were in Club Banana as Kim saw a new kind of clothing being advertised by a sign.
"Oh my gosh!" Kim says with excitement. "The new jackets just came in!"
As Kim grabs one from the shelf to try it on, Cale asks in curiosity
"You know that we're in spring, right? Why get that jacket when summer is approaching?"
"I just like the style." Kim answers.
"Well, it looks nice on you either way." Cale comments.
While Kim blushed slightly at his compliment, the teens hear a friendly female voice calling out
"Kim!"
Kim turns to the source as does Cale; he sees an African girl who had black hair, brown eyes, and wore a red dress that had a black belt around the waist.
"Monique!"
Seeing Kim react that way was a true sign that this girl was friendly towards her.
"How've you been, girl?" Monique asks before she noticed Cale. "I see you've brought company."
Then, Kim turns to Cale before she said
"Cale, this is my friend Monique." she turns to Monique. "Monique, this is Cale; the boy I met last weekend."
"Nice to meet you." Monique says as she shook Cale's hand.
"Likewise." Cale replies.
"Be right back." Kim says to Cale before going to the counter.
It takes approximately five minutes before Kim returns and instantly noticed Cale staring off into space. The redhead gets slightly worried as she asks.
"What's wrong?"
"Well, I feel bad leaving Ron behind at the restaurant." Cale admits. "Maybe we should've waited for him until he was finished."
"Cale, it's no big." Kim assures. "Besides, Ron stays at Bueno Nacho for long periods of time. I'm sure he'll be all right.
The raven-haired boy smiled slightly as he said.
"Yeah. Maybe you're right."
At Bueno Nacho, Ron and Hanzo were standing close and weakly slapping each other like two children at a playground.
"Take back what you said!" Ron demands.
"Never!" Hanzo counters.
"TAKE IT BACK!"
"NO!"
All the while, Ashley was merely sitting at one of the outside tables, drinking a cup of soda and watching the childish, yet entertaining fight with Rufus sitting on top of her shoulder.
"Boys can be so immature at times." Ashley comments as she looks at Rufus.
"True." Rufus squeaked.
The pair resume watching the show as Ron and Hanzo continue slapping each other.
Back with Cale and Kim, they were walking through the streets as they talked to one another. However, they pass by the very same park where they first met last week as both teens noticed.
"Deja vu much?" Cale asks
"Yeah." Kim says.
They enter the grass field in silence. As they were, Kim subtly glanced at Cale while memories of her first encounter with him returned to her mind and remembering what her mother advised her. Silently taking a deep breath, Kim clears her thoughts before she says.
"Cale?"
"Yes?"
"There's...something I've been meaning to tell you." Kim says as she and Cale stopped walking.
"I'm listening."
"Look..." Kim hesitates. "I know that we have recently met a week ago, but ever since that day..." she glanced down shyly before looking into his eyes, "I can't stop thinking about you."
The raven-haired boy was stunned silent. While he began to develop feelings for Kim, Cale didn't anticipate that she was starting the same way to him. He smiles warmly; something that Kim instantly noticed as she had a subtle hopeful look.
"I'll be honest with you, Kim." Cale says. "I haven't stopped thinking about you either. I..."
Cale pauses as he felt something was wrong; like danger was approaching quickly. Suddenly, Cale embraces Kim as he shouts
"GET DOWN!"
He dips her while bending down as Kim sees a green energy blast sail twelve inches above Cale's backpack, missing him before it destroys a nearby trash can. When they stood up straight, Cale and Kim look up to see Drakken and Shego in their hovercraft with the woman's hands glowing with green energy, indicating that she was the one responsible for the attack.
"Don't you idiots have any better hobbies?!" Kim says in annoyance.
"Aw...but breaking you is so much fun!" Shego taunts, then eyes Cale. "And your little boyfriend too."
Cale and Kim both blush as they shout
"He's/she's not my boyfriend/girlfriend!"
However, Cale mumbles
"Not yet anyways."
Kim heard what the boy said as she asked
"Not yet?"
"I know it's a bit too soon, but..." Cale says with hesitation.
As Kim smiled at the thought, Drakken interrupts
"Whatever! Shego! Attack!"
Shego jumps off the hovercraft, ready to fight. While the woman charged at the two teens, Kim's instincts kicked in as she was ready to defend Cale
"Cale! Go! I can handle them!"
Instead of running, Cale stood his ground as he began to remove his backpack.
"No!" he unzips his backpack. "Not this time."
When Shego got in range, Kim sees Cale pull out a small pellet from his pocket that was charcoal gray in color. Realizing that it was a smoke bomb, Kim prepares herself. Once the boy threw the projectile, Shego became blinded by the smoke temporarily as Kim and Cale quickly got in position. When the smoke cleared, Shego sees her opponents. However, the woman sees Cale wearing a back harness; attached to it was a sword that positioned diagonally where the hilt was off the right shoulder.
"I'll take Shego." Kim says.
"Then Doctor Bonehead is mine." Cale replies.
While Kim fought Shego, Cale was facing Drakken who pulled out a blaster and fired several shots at him. However, he dodges them easily thanks to his superior agility and ninjutsu training. The good doctor was getting frustrated, seeing that he was unable to get in a good shot.
"WILL YOU HOLD STILL?!" Drakken shouts like an angry child instead of an adult.
Cale manages to jump to a tree branch as the leaves give him cover. While Dr. Drakken waits for him to make a move as he aims his blaster, Cale draws his double-edged ninjato sword from the sheath silently before he tightens his grip. With a powerful jump, the boy takes it into the air before landing onto the hovercraft. Without hesitation and a mighty swing, the blade of Cale's weapon simply cuts the blaster in half.
"HEY!" Drakken shouts. "Didn't your mother ever tell you not to play with sharp, pointy things?!"
"Didn't your mother ever tell you not to play with guns?" Cale counters as he stood up straight.
Drakken squints his eyes as he looked at Cale and asked.
"Have we met?"
"Yeah." Cale replies as if it was obvious. "It's not the first time you've seen me."
"Not that!" Drakken says before scratching his chin. "You look familiar, as if you remind me of someone."
Cale was silent for a minute before he says.
"I was about to say the same thing."
"Who are you?" Drakken asks in curiosity.
"The name's Cale." Cale replies as he repositioned his sword. "And here's something to remember me by, Bonehead."
"Bonehead?!" Drakken asks in confusion. "What does that mean?!"
Instead of answering, Cale thrusts his sword into the dashboard of the hovercraft, damaging it. The vehicle begins to go haywire as Drakken tries to stabilize it. However, the boy leaps off while sheathing his ninjato in midair before he safely lands onto the tree branch and then jumps to the ground. Looking to his left, Cale sees Shego knocking down and pinning Kim.
"Got you now, princess!" Shego says.
However, before Shego could strike, she and Kim hear a male voice.
"Not quite."
Shego looks to her right and doesn't react in time to avoid Cale's jump kick which knocks the woman off of Kim. The raven-haired boy holds his hand out to Kim who gratefully accepts it as she was helped up.
"Thanks."
"Anytime."
Shego jumps to her feet before seeing Cale and Kim get in their respective fighting stances. However, they all hear bumping noises as they Drakken trying to keep the hovercraft stable while the good doctor shouts
"Shego! I need you!"
In response, Shego runs to the hovercraft and gets on board with a jump before taking control of it to keep it stable. As they were making their escape, Drakken shouts while shaking his fist at the teens.
"KIM POSSIBLE! CALE! YOU TWO THINK YOU'RE ALL THAT! BUT YOU'RE NOT!"
As they watched the villains flee, Cale glanced at Kim while asking.
"Does he always say that?"
"Yes, he does." Kim replies with annoyance.
Cale goes to a tree with Kim following him. After giving the trunk a pound, the boy looks up to catch his backpack that was stashed on a branch. While removing his back harness to place it inside, Kim asks as he was zipping his backpack to close it.
"So Cale?"
"Yes?" Cale replies as he slung his backpack on.
"What you said, back there when Drakken and Shego attacked," Kim began nervously. "did you really mean it?"
Cale was silent for a minute before he says to her,
"Yes. I am aware that it's too soon, but I started liking you since the day we first met." Cale says in honesty before adding. "Also, there's something I..."
However, Kim's Kimmunicator started going off, interrupting the boy. Kim looked at Cale with uncertainty. However, he simply says
"It's best if you answer it."
Kim smiles before she pulls her PDA out and answers.
"Go Wade."
"Kim! I got a solo mission for you!" Wade informs. "A rare artifact was stolen from a museum by a pair of thieves! You need to get there, pronto!"
Once Kim disconnects the transmission, she looks at Cale apologetically and says.
"Sorry."
"It's okay Kim." Cale assures. "Do what you need to do."
Kim smiled at the boy's words. Eventually, the redhead glanced away shyly before she says.
"Well, I better go. Also..."
Kim paused as Cale asks
"What is it?"
Suddenly, Kim closed her eyes before she kissed Cale on the lips. The boy was surprised at first as his eyes widened, but then they closed as he returns the kiss as his arms wrapped around Kim's waist while her arms draped around Cale's neck. The kiss ended in two minutes before the two teens opened their eyes and smiled at one another.
"I think you should get going." Cale suggests.
"Yeah." Kim said in agreement. "Bye Cale."
As Kim quickly left to go on her mission, Cale could only watch as his smile slowly while thinking.
"Kim. I wanted to tell you my secret as well as my feelings for you." His smile drops subtly. "I guess this is as close as I can get."
Eventually, Cale walks off to return home.
At the Middleton Union Station, Ashley and Hanzo were getting on board the train to return to Los Angeles.
"Well, we lost Cale." Ashley says in annoyance. "Thanks a lot."
"What did I do?" Hanzo asks, equally annoyed.
"Picking a fight with that kid which got us in trouble and grounded by our respective parents." Ashley replies.
"Hey, you were the one who wanted to find Cale in the first place!" Hanzo counters. "All because you wanted to pay him a "surprise visit"." he uses air quotes.
Ashley tries to counter it, but was unable to as she just growled in frustration and then said
"Let's just go!"
It was Monday as school was back in session. However, one particular blond boy wasn't happy in the hallways as two people approached him.
"Hey Ron, you okay?" Kim asked out of concern
"Yeah. Did something happen?" Cale asks equally concerned. "You look like you lost something."
"Well," Ron begins. "After you two left, some punk was dissing Bueno Nacho and...well... we fought."
Kim and and Cale looked worried.
"When the police arrived, they escorted the punk and his friend to the union station and me home." Ron says. "So while I'm grounded for three days..."
He suddenly grabs Cale by the shirt and shouts in desperation
"I'M BANNED FROM BUENO NACHO FOR A WEEK!"
"Uh-huh!" Rufus sadly squeaks
Cale loosens Ron's grip as he says.
"Okay. Take it easy, Ron! It's not like the end of the world."
Suddenly, the warning bell rings as the trio noticed. As Cale turned to get to his locker, Kim says to the raven-haired boy, getting his attention.
"I'll see you in class, Cale."
"You too, Kim." Cale replies.
While Ron was oblivious to Kim's unusual smile, Rufus was the only who noticed it as he looked confused.
"Huh?"
Stay tuned for the next chapter.
