With a deep sigh, rub of her temple and with closed eyes, Anemone, leader of the resistance, tried to calm her nerves. Just less than ten minutes ago she, as well as the rest of those present in the resistance camp, were alerted by the sound of Machine activity and gunfire. She didn't have to leave from her position before knowing who was firing when the sound of cursing and yelling was heard.
One of the biggest thorns in her side; Jackass. She thought that by sending her off to the desert, a place where most androids daren't go, she would stay there and be content with the amount of time she could spend with her experiments. Apparently not. Her yelling at something, presumably whatever machine lifeforms were out there, had drawn everyone's attention to what was going on, hers as well. After all, she gave strict orders for the female resistance android to stay in the desert let any major problems come up.
She had sent a few androids to check out what the commotion was only to see them run back with their tails between their legs.
From their yells, most incoherent, she pieced together that the machine menace, a goliath class machine that seemed to easily manoeuvrer through their grasp, had attacked. Although it wasn't common for goliath class machines to wander around the city this one seemed to have made a name for itself, killing around twenty resistance members in a week. What more was the lack of help by YoRHa. They said that it would be handled by them in less than a couple days but when those days passed she took matters, as best she could, into her own hands. Areas in the city were blocked off and resistance members weren't allowed out for longer than a couple hours at a time. Resources soon began to become scarce after the rules were implemented and Anemone worried about how they were going to survive with the menace still out there.
She cursed herself for how stupid she was to not take better action and at the thought of losing a strong member of the resistance. Her lack of action has potentially caused the death of one of her most trusted members.
Several resistance androids had circled around the entrance, including herself, as they waited for something. The sounds of gunfire and yelling were all that came as animalistic growls and screeches came from the outside. She didn't know when but she was clutching either elbow, her arms crossed over her stomach. Although Androids, YoRHa especially, were told not to prohibit emotions, all she could feel was fear. What would happen if the machine turned its attention to them. They definitely didn't have the right firepower to defeat it and especially couldn't wait around.
"Anemone," a resistance member, one she worked with daily at the intelligence office, had stalked over and moved to her side. "YoRHa has been notified and they are sending some forces over now" a sigh escaped her lips as Anemone nodded her head. That was good. YoRHa had the firepower and that was just what they needed currently.
"Tell them to bring someone with a flight unit" she spoke, "If this thing gets away more could get hurt". The android nodded before quickly scurrying off, leaving her and the others to watch. Before she didn't act on time, just sitting around and waiting for something to happen, but now she needed to act. Turning around to face a few of the androids she puffed her metal chest out and coughed slightly.
"Listen up! I want a defensive line set here as fast as you can! I want the biggest guns we have and I want them trained down that entrance immediately!" she yelled out, a few of the androids immediately rushing off. "I want any already injured to move to the back and stay there. Spears, swords, and anyone who can't shoot will be positioned behind! No machines will enter the camp!" a loud course of yells was heard as resistance members ran off, fetching any weapon they could. Some had already arrived, pointing their weapons down the short entrance. Anemone could all but sigh. She didn't want anyone to die today. The number of resistance androids had shriveled and all she had was androids with no moral, no reason to fight. She was sure most wanted to desert and she was thinking about doing the same.
An explosion caught her and most of the androids off guard as black smoke rose over the barricade that hid the right side of the entrance. She returned her arms to cross over her chest, tightening them once more. Whatever was happening out there frightened her fabricated heart.
Chapter 3
The Resistance
Jackass stared at the outstretched hand, eyes shaking. She didn't know if it was from the smoke, the synthetic adrenaline that barrelled through her plastic veins, or the way too real fear she had felt. She would have most certainly died here not too long ago were it not for them and yet she couldn't grab the hand. Yeah, her arm was stuck inside of a flight unit and her body was most certainly damaged in some way from the fight but she just stared at the outstretched hand with wide eyes and twitching fingers.
This stranger, a wandering nomad from who knows where had just taken down a machine that even the most battle-hardened androids would have trouble taking down. Was it dumb luck? Perhaps. Maybe a rush of some kind of drug that enhanced the android body. Possibly. But at this point, she was just making excuses. She knew what happened, she knew what she was. She just didn't want to face it. To face the reality of the situation and let herself calm down.
YoRHa above! Why didn't she just stay in her little camp in the desert, fumbling with some ingredients and invent a new bomb?! Instead, curiosity and a desire to get away from her boring-ass job had overwhelmed her. She wanted to hit herself with her right hand, her instincts seemed to have returned, however, she quickly remembered it being trapped in the flight unit to her side.
The bloodied female seemed to have noticed what was wrong and hobbled on over, trickles of blood falling down her face and onto the ground. She seemed to have lost a lot and Jackass was about to call her out on it but not a word escaped her. Was her voice module acting up? Was it damaged in the fight? Worry seemed to coax through her body as she tried to explain to her but she was soon silenced by the buzzing of machinery.
The small Pod that followed her was back floating around, seemingly appearing out of nowhere after its sudden disappearance from the fight. It hovered with a slight buzz – a wrong buzz for sure, she hadn't heard the damn thing do that before. Much like her, it was at a loss for words, just floating and looking at her with that stationary red eye that was plastered onto its rusted face.
A clink and her arm was free. Looking over she watched as the bloodied humanoid figure, covered in bloody clothing and dust walked back to where she was before, extending that arm once again, hand open. This time, Jackass took it without hesitation, wrapping her fingers around theirs and allowing herself to be helped up.
It was then that Jackass could feel her tongue move and that voice module, embedded in her throat, actually start to work. And a single question came out. "Are you human?"
The person, the enigma, Alpha, looked at her with that bloody look, hands swaying at her sides as both her weapons lay at her feet. The repeater now had a large crack going through a part of the wooden stock, a problem that should probably be looked at soon. Her sword, stolen, had seen better days. It was covered in oil and a large chip could be seen at the tip. Both would take a serious amount of time to fix. However, none more than the female in front of her. Through a smile and a chuckle, that proceeded into a coughing fit, Alpha answered her question with elegance. Never had Jackass known someone to say a single word in such a way. It was like a weight, metaphorical, had been lifted off of her.
"Yes," she had answered. And like that, a silence followed. A silence that went past the trickling of water outside, the crackling of the burning machine, the echoes of the dropping rocks, and the groaning of the wind. Jackass didn't like the silence. It hurt her core, hurt her chips. Her hands clenched as she stared head-on at the battered, standing corpse in front of her.
A buzz and the small floating Pod had decided to interrupt the moment, breaking through that painful silence. "Warning. Commander Alpha has lost a substantial amount of blood. Proposal. Commander Alpha should go to the resistance camp and receive medical attention immediately" the Pod had buzzed it out in its robotic voice and for one Jackass agreed with the floating robot. This human, this Alpha, had been beaten so much that whatever blood that was inside her was now on the outside. Knowledge of their creators was small but Jackass knew they weren't in the best of conditions.
Turning her attention back to the now identified human, Jackass was about to propose an idea. However, before said advice could escape her the female had fallen.
Covered in her own blood, surrounded by a pool of it, the Human, Alpha, lay still, unmoving.
The void scared her. Its unending darkness that swallowed up anything and everything made her breath hitch and movement freeze. Alpha hated floating in nothing, allowing her body to be effortlessly moved around. The Stygian ocean clung to her with its hollow arms, wrapping her in a blanket of darkness and allowing the abyss to cover all. It had happened a few times before.
The first time was in basic training where the drill instructor thought it good to beat the shit out of every new recruit that was there. He had punched her in the side of the head so hard that he had broken one of the bones in her ear as well as nearly snapped her jaw in half. Luckily for him, she had gotten up right after and broken his nose and cracked a rib. He wasn't seen again after that.
A second time was during a conflict in South Korea after the outbreak of a disease in Japan. People were rioting to stop trade with the country and she and a squad were dispatched. Safe to say, two rocks to the face put her down for a second.
There were countless other times as well, too many to count, and every time she would get up, find whoever knocked her out, and beat them ten times over. It was a feeling that she never wanted to repeat ever again and yet it kept on happening.
A sick trick from life that kept on ending with her stuck with nothing but fragments of what happened, bound to wake up who knows where with who knows who next to her. So here she was. Floating in an endless abyss with nothing but herself to talk to.
What had happened? Why was she here? Her mind was blank for ideas and as hard as she scraped for a fragment of memory she could not remember.
Ah, that's right.
She just killed a mechanical monstrosity.
Alpha woke to a ceiling made of one of the darkest grey concretes that she had ever seen. It was dull and depressing as all hell. Blinking to get any gunk out of her eyes, Alpha slowly rose with disgruntled groans. Her stomach hurt like hell, not to mention the rest of her body, and it was hard to move on the account of it.
Stained bandages covered her lower body, a dark red covering the inner layers. Her face contracted into a wince as she steadily brought herself off of the bed. Cold flooring met cold flesh and soon Alpha found how hard the floor really was. Letting out a whine of pain, her arms supporting her body as movement in her legs slowly started to come back to her. Numbed by a lack of movement, she forced her legs to move.
Resting her body on a nearby stack of shelves she got a much better look at the room she was in.
It seemed to be a storage room. Shelves filled with different coloured boxes hugged one side of the room whilst the other had a small bed with a set of draws next to it. The bed itself was where she was just at, stained, much like her bandages, in that sickly red that stood out between the white sheets.
The set of draws had a small pot with some flowers in, neatly arranged and giving that side a nice floral smell, unlike the rest of the storage area. Something must have died because a ghastly stench wafted by causing her to cringe in disgust.
Suppressing a gag, Alpha made her way to the stack of shelves where some clothing was neatly folded. Looking down at it she saw her combat trousers and boots. Some new additions, however, were a tanned shirt and a set of clean bandages. A small jacket was hung on the side, a dark blue colour that worked well with her dark pants.
Grabbing them, with little trouble, she was dressed. Alpha let out another grunt, holding her stomach as she looked at the only exit to the room. A door that seemed to lead outside.
She assumed this was the so-called resistance camp and, with that, she assumed her weapons were being held somewhere different than where she currently was. It took her a moment to realize that Pod-002 wasn't with her. The annoying floating box was, presumable, somewhere else, with her weapons most likely.
A single, foggy glass window covered a good section of the top half of the door, letting in a ray of light, the only source found in the room. Steadily walking over to the door a plethora of sounds could be heard from the other side. Talking and laughter, clattering and walking. Blurred figures could be seen on the other side, their movements hidden by the glass's fog.
Shakily, her hand loomed over the decaying door handle. Its paint was long gone and an oxidized surface was all that remained.
These past few days had been hell for her. Camping under the constantly burning sun with the risk of a machine jumping out to imbed a sword within her, shoot her with raw plasma, or beat her to death. This unique new word of mysterious happenings troubled her to no end. There were, most likely, androids beyond the door, objects made by humans long ago. Did they harbor a hatred for humans? They were forced to fight for their creators with no reward for their services. Was that something they wanted?
Wincing and pulling her hand into a fist, Alpha let out a shaky breath and grabbed the handle, turning it. A bright light blinded her as she was met with a figure directly in front of her.
Alpha's blue eyes clashed with the green iris that stared at her. A bob cut of scarlet hair perfectly combed and kept was connected to a head of perfectly white skin that seemed to glow in the light. With puckered lips and perfect eyelashes, everything about this person seemed perfect. No, they weren't a human. An android.
She was shaped to be perfect. Alpha stood still in the doorway like a deer in headlights, frozen in place and with no idea what to do.
The female android in front of her had gasped at the sight of her, moving her hand to cover her mouth in what Alpha assumed to be astonishment.
"Y-you shouldn't be up!" she exclaimed, grabbing Alpha by her arms and pushing her back inside the room, "You need to rest! Lay back down! Quickly". Alpha soon broke out of the trance and slapped the female's hands away, taking a step back with a broken posture. The pain was getting to her and she was pretty sure the bandages weren't going to hold any more blood for a while.
"Where the hell am I? Where's my pod and what the hell happened?" a million questions spewed from her mouth as she gave the best glare she could to the female.
The red-headed android, in response, held up her hands defensively, backing up slightly. "Don't worry, you're at the resistance camp. Your friend carried you here and gave your stuff to one of the weapon smiths!" she exclaimed, backing up slightly.
Grunting, Alpha nearly toppled over, the pain gradually starting to get to her. The adrenalin of waking up suddenly must have started to wear off because god damn this hurt. The red-headed female had rushed to her side, gently guiding her back to the bed. "You've been asleep for a few hours, how you're up is a miracle but you must rest! Please!" as soon as they arrived at the bed Alpha let out a grunt, pushing against the android. She was heavier than expected and Alpha couldn't exactly fight against someone triple your weight.
"Popola? Everything alright?" Another android appeared from the door. Similar to the one forcing her onto the bed, they had outlandish red hair that, unlike the now named 'Popola', was messy and long, reaching behind her back for a while. She had similar green eyes and that perfect skin and at this point, Alpha was starting to get a little jealous over it.
The newly arrived one's face turned sour as she walked over and grabbed the other side of Alpha, forcing her onto the bed with the help of the other android. "Listen to her and rest dammit! You've lost way too much blood!" the new android grunted, the two trying to stop a squirming Alpha from escaping. Said human was currently punching and kicking at them, an ooze of blood dripping down her side as she squirmed in their grasp. Even with the sharp pain in her side and the current headache Alpha wasn't going to sit in a god damn room healing.
The two female androids kept on trying to hold Alpha down, both their attempts not stopping the angry female from moving. Her punches were ineffective, not doing much against their metallic bodies.
"I feel like I'm intruding on something special here" A third person had decided to enter the room. That familiar hood and smirking face made Alpha brighten up as a slightly injured Jackass entered, holding a familiar gun in her hand.
Exclaiming the android's name, Alpha shot out of the bed and through the two androids' grasps. Said android laughed as the human almost toppled over again, supporting her when she almost fell onto her. "Hey, you gotta listen to those two you know? They're some of the best crappy doctors I know" she chuckled, watching as Alpha supported herself again.
"Jackass, what the hell happened?" the explosive expert let out a chuckle, propping the repeater against the wall before guiding her back to the bed where she compliantly complied.
"Ok, listen, after you beat the hell out of that machine you passed out and I had to carry you back here" Jackass emphasized by pointing down at 'here', "And after those two" a point to the two red-heads, "patched you up I had to explain a long-ass explanation after your pod exploded in her face".
Alpha took a second to intake everything she said, blinking before nodding. That did sound like her Pod. "Then this is the resistance camp" a nod from Jackass with a grin on her face. She sure did seem proud of herself.
"Then you-" "Told everyone about you being human? Yep!" Alpha felt a metaphorical dread fall over her as a loud groan escaped her. Jackass seemed as pleased as ever and it seemed as if she were the only one who didn't realize her mistake. The two redheads were looking at each other with nervous expressions on their faces.
"Jackass" "Yes?" "The main reason I kept it from you is that I wanted to keep it a secret that a human has appeared" Alpha stated slowly, making sure that she said every syllable precisely so the android in front of her understood. It didn't seem to work as Jackass kept on smiling like a smartass. "So YoRHa don't realize" she still didn't seem to get it, "So I do what I please without being hounded by them!".
Jackass soon caught onto her words, nodding and trying to fathom something to say. Her mouth opened and closed, a raised finger slowly curling back into her fist as a dejected look soon fell onto her face.
Alpha just groaned, rubbing the bridge of her nose. "Does YoRHa know?" "No" "Will someone tell them?" a silence soon fell as the explosive expert thought for a second. "No?" "Why was that a question?" "Look, I don't know! Most people here hate YoRHa anyway so you should be fine! Wait, why the hell do you not want YoRHa to help you?" the spotlight was now on Alpha who clicked her tongue in annoyance.
This argument was useless towards anything and Alpha stood up, the two redheads immediately pushing her back onto the bed.
"Look, I have something I need to do and from the stories, my Pod's told me on them I don't exactly wanna get involved with them alright?" "What stories?! Sure, they're assholes and all but they're the best of the best!" Jackass grunted, eyeing the human wearily.
Alpha let out another grunt, sighing, and waved her hand slightly. "Okay, listen. If my pod is right then YoRHa will be more than willing to burn this entire camp down to find if I'm here" Jackass seemed a little taken back, though she didn't seem to show it, looking at the two redheads before back at her.
A few beats later and Jackass looked outside the door before closing it. "What is said in here, stays in here," she said, waving a finger at the two other androids. The messy-haired one scoffed as her named sister nodded.
"Listen, Alpha, whatever you're doing I want in" before Alpha couldn't even respond, Jackass continued, "If you want to keep it away from YoRHa, fine by me, but you're not leaving me out of this crap". Jackass continued to press, moving forward towards the female with furrowed eyebrows. "So tell me what the hell your goal is"
Alpha was planning on keeping her mission a secret, and many other things at that. Her pod, an all-knowledgable relic of the past, had been hooked up to a data link for the past 9000 years, tapping into comms of different parties, scanning the earth as its rotation came to an end, and mapping the corrosion that had been happening all over.
It had after she had awoken, informed her of everything that had happened whilst she was asleep. Asleep in a box of blue fluid that trapped her in time. The science behind it still astonished her but that didn't matter. What did matter was her mission.
Project Phoenix was meant to trap humans away from the poisons of the world and allow them to thrive when everything was survivable. The thing is, that was a few hundred years back and the sleeping pod she was in malfunctioned leading to her waking up later than expected. And if she woke up late then other might have too. Or Earlier.
So, with one goal in mind, she'd search all the known locations of these sleeping pods and see if any other human life besides her lived.
Though, that also came with the question of human life. Her Pod said that Humans went 'extinct' almost as soon as Project Phoenix was put into play and if that was the case, the lie told to all androids, the lie of humans being on the moon, was truly a lie. To think self-aware creatures were fighting a war for an imaginary race made her feel several emotions, but she could do nothing. Androids populated every square inch of the shattered world and it would most likely be impossible to tell every single one that what they were fighting for was a lie! Not to mention the fact some wouldn't exactly react too well to her saying that.
But even if it hurt her to say it to the three androids in the room, she said it and explained in detail what her plan was. To find each of the human bunkers through the war-torn land and hope to reunite humanity once more. Though, of course, she would have to explain the fact humans didn't live on the moon.
The two twins, Popola and Devola she had come to learn, reacted differently to what she expected. Popola, the much mellower of the duo, reacted with surprise and had looked at her sister android in surprise. Devola had furrowed her eyebrows, muttered a cuss under her breath, and kept on listening.
Jackass, the much brasher of the three had seemed to have an entire mood change, muttering something about needing to talk to someone before leaving the room.
Popola had turned to her and gave her a warm smile, stating "She'll be alright. Just rest" before leaving the room. Devola had done the same but not before giving her a nod and closing the door behind her.
An hour had passed and Alpha had been laying on the bloody bed, her eyes closed as she tried to rest. How much she tried she couldn't get to sleep, whatever she did that blissful darkness never came. So instead she lay and listened to the noises from beyond the door. What was out there? A large open area with different buildings in a tight circle? Tanks, armored vehicles? Perhaps androids chatting and laughing around a small fire?
She let out a sigh through her nose as the sounds continued. However, after a second they seemed to dim. Her eyes slowly opened as instead of the loud chattering she heard there were now quite whispers of noise.
Letting out a grunt, she swiveled off the bed and stood up, patting down her clothing and making sure her bandages were still tight. Slowly stepping towards the door she opened and peeked out, only for the door to nearly slamming into her face.
A surprised Jackass looked at her before closing the door, a frown on her face as she peeked over through the foggy window.
"What's wrong?" Alpha asked, peeking through the blurry glass and not seeing any movement. Jackass scratched her cheek, nodding it to the side and looking at Alpha with a nervous smile.
"Oh, you know, just nervous over the fact YoRHa are here" she chuckled, giving a small thumbs-up, "Yay". Alpha didn't share the same enthusiasm and opened the door slightly peeking out and trying to see what was going on. It was hard to see anything on account that a truck blocked her site but she did see someone.
Dressed in full black, a female android stood with an unamused face. A single black dress with white accents clothed most of her body but also some thigh highs and high heels adorned her lower parts. Not something she was expecting. A black blindfold was wrapped around her eyes as she seemed to scan the area in front of her. A large sword hovered behind her back as a much smaller one was clutched in her hand.
A second female was next to her, wearing similar clothing with a similarly annoyed look on her face. She leaned against a pillar of the building they were under, holding a similar sword in her hands, feeling the tip of her blade with gloved fingers whilst tapping one of her heeled feet.
Jackass had joined her in peeking out through the door, pointing at the two strangely dressed females. "Yeah, those guys are with YoRHa" "I could have guessed" she grunted, from below, watching as another female walked up to them.
She wore a similar set of clothing to Jackass. A hooded cape covered her head and ran down to her knees whilst a similar shirt covered her chest. Two belts were tightly wrapped across her stomach with small satchels attached, holding equipment most likely. A pair of beige combat trousers hugged her legs loosely, tucked into black boots that extended up half her shin, landing at a pair of knee guards. All were dated and old, most likely equipment that had been through the runner a few times
"Who's that?" Alpha inquired, Jackass responding quickly. "Anemone. Leader here. She's seen some shit, probably the third oldest member here" "Who's the first two?" "Twins probably" Alpha continued to watch, making sure to remain as hidden as possible. They started to talk soon after, their words barely audible to them.
"I see you've already dealt with the threat," the lead female spoke with as much emotion as a piece of slate. Anemone simply nodded, her body language clear as day. She was nervous. She hugged herself, moving on the heels of her feet and Alpha could clearly tell she was uncomfortable.
"If you knew you'd be able to deal with the goliath why did you send a distress signal out to YoRHa, wasting our resources and time?" she pushed. Even if she had a blindfold it was obvious she was glaring.
It was time for the resistance leader to speak up, a small stutter in her words before she finally got out a proper sentence. "We didn't know the danger at the time. My main priority was to make sure the least amount of casualties occurred!" the leader argued back. That didn't seem to be the answer the android wanted as she stepped forward with an even deeper frown.
Her hand rested at her side, gloved hand pressed against her side. It was at this point that Alpha realized how sexual her figure was, with all the curves in all the right places. Whoever made these damn things really did enjoy the female figure.
"If you knew you were trying to minimize casualties then why did you have your men fight it? Why didn't you distract it, bring them back in whilst closing the damn gate?!" it was at this point the YoRHa android had raised her voice, grabbing the resistance leader by the scruff of her shirt, looking down at the smaller android.
Anemone let out a choked cough, wincing as both hands clutched the female grabbing her.
"They always such dicks?" Jackass suppressed a choked laugh, looking down at the female human and shaking her head.
"Sadly no. Seems White is losing it finally" she mused with a hum. Alpha didn't question her any further, continuing to watch the scene unfold.
As the argument continued to unfold the smaller android kicked off the wall, walked up to the larger female, and whispered something to her, causing the larger android to drop the resistance leader. A nearby android went to help her but Anemone raised a hand, standing up herself.
"My partner raises a good point. I believe that for our time some compensation is in order. We'll have to ask for some extra supplies in the next supply run to the bunker. Think you can handle that?" she asked.
If she wasn't threatening before she sure was now. Anemone seemed backed into a corner.
Alpha's grip on the door tightened. She was never one for assholes thinking they run the place. She'd listen to superior officers, but anyone who was some egotistical prick could go to hell. Jackass seemed to notice her clenching hand and tried to pull her back.
"Come on. Just lay back down, they'll be gone soon" she murmured, trying to push the human back onto the makeshift bed. However, it was clear the human wasn't going down quite as easy as she suspected.
"You can't just turn a blind eye to what's happening! We have to do something!" she growled, pushing the android's arm out of her way, "She's your boss, your leader!". Jackass seemed to wince, her appearance taking a much more somber look.
"Listen, don't worry about it. Just. Just lay down and rest okay?" Alpha let out a deep sigh, staring at Jackass with mixed emotions. Shaking their head they sat down, letting out another sigh as she massaged her temple with an open palm. The sounds of arguing had died down by now and the two stayed in silence, the resistance android pacing around the room, taking peeks outside the window every now and then. Guess she wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon.
Alpha leaned against the freezing cold wall, feeling where the bandages covered her stomach. Jackass had suggested that they change them but she declined, deciding to wait for the twins. It wasn't that she didn't think Jackass would be able to change her bandage, well she didn't for one, but if it were the twins who saved her then it would be better for them to change it than the explosive scientist.
At least twenty minutes had passed since jackass had demanded her to lay back down and those minutes ticked by like an eternity. The commotion outside had subsided for quite some time as well, leaving them in unbearable silence. The noise was what Alpha wished for, a rare commodity in this desolate future apparently.
Looking over to her side she saw Jackass leaning against one of the shelves, one arm crossed over her chest whilst one hand rested against her lips. One foot was pressed against the shelves whilst the other lay still on the ground. She seemed lost in thought and Alpha didn't blame her. She was told the truth about a lie she had been living her entire life and now her leading commander was probably face down on the ground.
Watching two people, two androids, who were on the same side fighting didn't sit with her and it probably didn't sit with her either. Alpha, even back thousands of years ago, always kept a promise to protect the innocent from the tyrannical. But what good was she in a box of concrete, bedridden, and with repressed exasperations.
She wasn't going to just sit around in this room and wait around till she got better. She felt fine, her wounds, although a pain, would heal in time and worse comes to worse she'd have to use a close-range weapon. She had her rifle and her Pod, wherever that stingy bastard was hiding, so she could, and probably would, be able to fend against whatever else is crawling outside. She was able to beat a bloodthirsty wolf machine, even if she did go unconscious, but she would be much more prepared and well versed in killing machines! At least, that was what she believed.
Groaning, she slapped a hand against her face, dragging it down and allowing her thumb and finger to rub against the bridge of her nose. She was going crazy in here.
"Jackass, can I please just leave now" she spoke with little effort, her words a mumble of noises. Jackass looked over with a scowl on her face before going back to her original position. Apparently not.
Slowly lifting herself up, grunting uncomfortably, Alpha spun her legs off the side of the bed and stood up. Something was clearly wrong. "Listen, those YoRHa guys are probably gone by now and I'm feeling fine, so can I just-" "You're not leaving this room" Jackass snapped, turning to the human. She didn't look happy at all. "You're injured so you're staying. Stop whining and lay back down" Alpha clicked her tongue, walking towards the android.
"Listen Jackass, I'm fine. I'm pretty damn sure YoRHa is gone so I can go out-" "That's not the point" she hissed, poking Alpha in the chest. "If what you told me an hour ago is true then you could be one of the last damn humans and I'm not letting you just go out there and get yourself killed!" Jackass yelled, continuing to poke Alpha in the chest. It was starting to get annoying.
"So what?!" Alpha yelled back, slapping her hand away, "I can damn well protect myself. And as I told you, I have a mission to complete!" "I'll do it for you then!". The argument was starting to get louder, each raising their voice, "For all you know, one could be on the side of a cliff! Or even worse, at the bottom of the god damn sea!".
Spit was flying and curses too. Each side was flailing their arms around and soon enough things started to get physical.
"Just lay down!" Jackass grabbed Alpha by her arms and rugby tackled her down onto the bed, promptly resulting in Alpha sticking her booted foot in her face.
"Get the fuck off me!" she yelled back, delivering harsh kick after harsh kick.
The two were in a stalemate, fighting and yelling as blows and insults were passed around. They were so preoccupied with their struggle that they failed to notice the door opening.
A loud cough broke the two from their scuffle, their heads turning to see the female they were spying on just minutes ago. Anemone didn't seem pleased, a twitching eyebrow and frown helped the two realize that. Her arms were crossed and poking their heads around the door were two more resistance members that Alpha didn't know. One ginger with similar goggles to her and a large bald male. The two were looking at the scene, holding back laughter and sniggers. The resistance leader didn't seem to find it funny at all.
"You two done?" the resistance leader asked, prompting the two to look at each other and back at her. If this were a cartoon Alpha would say this was almost comical to some extent. Removing themselves from each other Anemone let out a sigh, watching the two pat themselves down.
"Good, now come on, we have a lot to talk about".
It wasn't a good day for the resistance leader, not a good one at all. She had been scared half to death by a Goliath class machine threatening the entrance of the resistance camp as well as the lives of one of her many trusted androids, watched as a human was dragged half-dead through the camp, and now was dealing with YoRHa. This nightmare of a day was the worst she'd had in ages. And yet it seemed she could up it one more.
Rubbing the bridge of her nose, the resistance leader let out a held breath and sighed deeply. Why couldn't she just have one day off in this damn camp? It was either one problem or the next with this place. Some days she just wished she was made a YoRHa Operator. Sitting down and not worrying about anything, well other than one person.
But she shouldn't be fantasizing about that, she had other things to deal with. And they were currently sitting in front of her.
Dressed in some spare clothing they had, the human Jackass had come across was seated in front of her, the aforementioned android next to her, poking and speaking to said human with a shit-eating smirk upon her face. The Human did not look pleased in the slightest.
"Finished?" she asked with a sigh. Jackass looked over at her and snorted, leaning back in her chair whilst the Human seemed to recover from the relentless poking and squabbling in her ear and sat up somewhat straight. Her expression was still sour, her wounds most likely. It was at this time too that Anemone could actually see what the human looked like.
White hair, much like a YoRHa android atop her head with striking hazel eyes. Her skin a deathly pale and her body, although covered in cloth, was clearly bulky in some ways. The clothing she wore was standard issue stuff they had at the camp as well as some boots that were a little too big for her.
Blowing what could have been her hundredth sigh today she began to speak.
"I do apologize for bringing you out when you're still recovering, however, this matter should be addressed immediately" the human nodded her head in understanding.
"That's fine. I do understand you have a base of operations to handle" her voice surprised Anemone slightly. It was both foreign and familiar at the same time. Nodding her head she let a small cough into her hand.
"Thank you. You see, um.." "Alpha" "Alpha, I may have to decline your request for us to not inform YoRHa. You being down his is dangerous enough and-" she was silenced by the human holding up her hand, a smile on her lips.
"Thank you, Anemone," her name seemed to roll off her tongue too sweetly, "However, I would prefer if you were to keep my existence a secret. I have an important mission and YoRHa being notified might complicate things. So respectfully, I would prefer you to keep it a secret". She spoke with elegance and kindness, laced with authority and respect that Anemone simply sunk into.
"Jeez, when did you become such a stick in the mud" Jackass snorted. Of course, her own resistance member did no such thing. Snickering at the human who gave a sideways glare that swiftly shut the android up.
"With all due respect Alpha, I don't see why not notifying YoRHa would not speed up your mission, whatever it may be, it might, in fact, speed it up" she questioned which was shut down by a swift reply.
Alpha rested her elbow on one of the armrests as she spoke, motioning with her placed arm. "YoRHa knowing my presence would have me shipped back to their base and then the moon and I'd rather not have to go through all the process of getting back down here again" she chuckled, "I'm sure you understand?".
She did, she truly did. But she could not wrap her head around why YoRHa should be ignored. However, she was one of her creators. She couldn't exactly say no. "Alright if you say so. I won't contact YoRHa" the human gave out a soft smile and thanked her.
"I'm sure the resistance members would do the same?" "Yes, I'll make sure of it" her smile widened again and she thanked her once more. A weird feeling to her but she accepted it with a smile of her own. "There is something else I'd like to talk about as well, mainly regarding your equipment" turning her head to the side she looked at the two resistance members behind her.
A singular male and female. The male, a tall bald android, dressed in a simple white shirt, black leather jeans, and large combat boots; The female, orange hair with a pair of blue-tinted goggles snugly put over them, dressed in tatters of old clothing as well as black combat pants and boots, similar to many other members of the resistance. The two were the best-known members of the resistance and were known for both weapons and mechanics respectively.
"This is Amakuni, our head blacksmith of the camp. He helped fix up your weapons" she spoke, pointing to the male. He gave a small wave and said a boisterous 'Yo'. Alpha replied with one of her own. "And here is Bolt, one of the many maintenance androids of the camp. She's been toying away at your pod" Bolt gave a small snort to her introduction, turning to Anemone with a smirk.
"You're making it our like I'm like our resident mad doctor" she joked, her eyes scanning over to Jackass who seemed to catch on, sticking up her middle finger as she sulked into her chair. "As Anemon said, names Bolt. Anything with chips or pods, bring 'em to me, I'll give you a discount" walking over she extended a hand to the sitting human.
Alpha gladly took it, standing up and shaking, "Not even, a discount?" she joked back causing the female android to laugh.
"I think me fixing up your little pod for free is good enough, don't ya think?" she mused, "Speaking of which!". The female reached behind her and unclipped Pod-002, pressing something on the back of his metal frame. Said frame was no longer rusty and a coat of fresh paint had been applied. '002' was in bright white on the side and the large hole on the side had been filled. He looked as good as new.
He let out a small beep, hovering in space as two mechanical arms flew out from under him, two lights on the lower portion of his face lit up, one green the other red. It felt like booting up a computer.
"Hey, how you doing buddy?" Alpha asked, the small drone turning to her.
"Suggestion, Commander Alpha should not throw herself into danger as she did before. If you lose any more blood then there are serious health risks such as hypovolemic shock or worse, death" Alpha let out a groan, turning to Bolt. "Is there any way I can refund it?" she spoke, earning a small laugh from the female and Jackass.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Alpha," Amakuni spoke, his rough deep voice causing her to turn to him. He was a bit taller than Alpha, about 6"5 in height, and his muscles didn't help with making him look like a giant.
"Pleasures all mine" Alpha spoke, shaking hands with him, "gotta say, you remind me of an old friend, use to be as big as you and just as beefy". Amakuni let out a laugh, a gentle smile on his face.
"I'll take that as a compliment. Here, I don't want to keep you" he said, grabbing a sheath and handing it to her. Alpha's eyes seemed to sparkle as she grabbed it and immediately unsheathed it, revealing a silver blade. How the human got her hands on a Pod and YoRHa issue sword she didn't know but she didn't really want to know.
Unlike how it looked when Alpha was first brought in, the blade was polished and sharpened, not a chip in sight. The tip, which before had been broken off, was now back, sharper than ever. The handle had also been fitted with some kind of black rope that went with the black and white colour scheme. However, a small amount of blue could be seen on certain parts, going along with the design. Anemone didn't question it either and watched as the human was in awe, giving it a few test swings.
"I do hope it's to your liking. It was a bitch for me to work with under such time constraints. I wanted to make sure it was ready after learning you woke" he laughed, earning a smile from Alpha.
"Thank you. You've truly done an amazing job with it" she said, placing her weapon to her side. "Might I ask of my gun?" the male hummed, nodding his head.
"That thing. It's gonna take me a while. I'm missing a few parts but it should be done soon, don't worry" he said, scratching the back of his head.
Alpha nodded her head, "Thank you, you've done a lot".
Anemone cleared her throat once more, drawing all the attention back to her. "Well, now that's over with. I suppose I should say welcome, Alpha, to the resistance camp".
Alpha had talked a while longer with the resistance leader before being told that she could walk around and spread her legs a while, something she immediately took advantage of. She never was one to sit down, always wanting to be on the move. So, currently, she and her pod were exploring the surprisingly small camp. She was expecting more but what she found was that it was a small patio between a few buildings with some tents up. It didn't scream resistance however Alpha had come to accept all the craziness that this new world was giving and so she had accepted it.
Before she started to walk around, Amakuni had talked to her about her repeater. Apparently, it was damaged beyond belief, the inner workings being crushed and cracked and if she used it she'd do more harm than good. So she left it with him, asking for it to be fixed up.
Jackass would have come with her on her walk, however, Bolt had dragged her off, saying something about something that needed fixing. She was dragged away whining and complaining.
Anemone had given her a small nod before saying she needed some time with the other commanders of the resistance. Most likely due to her.
And so here she was, sitting down on a small chair under a tent at the edge of the camp, eyes closed and leaning back. Ever since she had been thrust into this dangerous new world, she never got a chance to simply sit down and relax. The threat of machines and surviving in a boiling desert were never peaceful. But here? With smooth conditions and no threat of a machine stabbing her in the back, she could finally rest a little.
It didn't mean she rested fully. She trusted these androids, the so-called protectors of humanity, however, she still felt as if something was awry. Perhaps their relation with the mysterious YoRHa or maybe it was just her.
Pod-002 floated over her, taking watch as she thought, her hand at her side, ready to unsheathe her weapon.
It was never a good instinct to have, but one she gladly accepted.
It had started to get noisier again, with a few members of the resistance returning. She held felt many of their gazes and heard many of their whispers, most pointed at her.
Some doubted her existence, saying she was a spy from YoRHa or the machines. Others said that they wanted to talk to her, ask her questions about their existence. As if she could even answer them properly.
Then, of course, their gazes. Some were from Anemone as she peeked over discreetly at her from her workstation, muttering to a few of her commanding officers. The twins were nearby, behind a pillar discussing something. She had received a polite wave from Popola which she returned back to her.
Then there were those she didn't know. There were a few that passed by and stared, taking note of her before leaving. Then some stared for longer. One was a part of a group that thought they were sneaky, staring in between two people and one of the tents in the main plaza. She noticed her after her pod had notified her. It wasn't a malicious stare but one that did hold some emotion behind it.
Then there was a second. A small group near the edge of the camp. A group all huddled around a fire, talking and laughing, the loudest of the camp she had found. They seemed to be looking at her with intrigue, pointing and talking about her without a care.
Other than the continued staring, Alpha kept on resting, her pod keeping a silent watch over her. To her surprise, Bolt had actually done a good job on the small bastard and the paint job wasn't for show. Normally he would have sparked into an early grave and would have needed to be resuscitated by her, yet he kept on going, not a sign of him collapsing.
"Pod, what did she do to you whilst I was asleep?" she asked, causing his metal frame to turn to her.
"What do you mean commander?" he replied, a small sigh escaping her.
"I mean, what did Bolt do to you. Normally you'd fizzle out and I'd have to get you up and going again. Yet you seem perfectly fine" her small pod just floated, seemingly thinking.
"The resistance member Bolt had removed and added missing essentials to my inner mechanisms that were damaged. Now I am properly functional and shall not 'fizzle out' whilst we are in combat" Alpha gave a small hum to his explanation, her eyes snapping over to her left. One of the members of the small group had started to make their way over.
"Hold that for now Pod, we have some company" she mumbled, propping herself up as the android stopped in front of her. Pod-002 had snapped over, a small wiring noise emanating from him. He seemed as ready as she was.
Dressed in a heavy combat vest with a jacket underneath, the android was large, the same size as the resistance's head blacksmith. Large, baggy combat pants with several full pockets covered his large legs with a similarly large pair of boots that covered his feet. A pair of fingerless gloves on his fingers and like many of the resistance members a pair of goggles covered his eyes, screws, and tape holding them in place.
He seemed slightly nervous from the whirring pod but kept his attention on her. "I just have to ask, are you really a human?" his voice was young, younger than his appearance showed, and Alpha was a slight bit surprised by it.
Alpha hummed to his question, leaning back in her chair again. "I am. Why? Don't believe me?" her hand slowly rested on the armrest, the hilt of her blade a finger's length away from her. He seemed to notice as he held up his hands defensively.
"N-No, no! Not at all! It's just that, you know, you show up out of nowhere" he stated, his hands moving as much as his mouth, "And, well, me and the guys are just thinking that maybe you aren't actually one?". His voice got quieter as he talked, seemingly wincing over his own words and Alpha wouldn't blame him.
Alpha looked over to the group and saw them looking over, whispering between themselves. Guess they were too scared to come over themselves. "What's your name," she asked, looking back at him.
"Um, oh, ugh, names Axel, ma'am" he immediately slapped his feet together and saluted.
Alpha immediately cringed, waving him off. "Don't call me ma'am" she grumbled, "I hate being called that. Just call me Alpha" she grumbled, "either way, a pleasure to meet you, Axel". She shoved her hand out and the male flinched before taking it, his mouth slightly agape.
"So this is what a human's hand feels like?" he muttered under his breath, still holding onto her hand even after the handshake was over.
A small chuckle escaped her. He reminded her of a kid, a large, mechanical kid at that, but a kid. "I hope I don't feel too bad. I've been under the sun for god knows how long" she chuckled, the handshake finally ending.
"N-not at all Ma- Alpha. It's just, you feel warm" Alpha chuckled, a small smile decorating her face once more. That was one thing she always seemed to forget. These androids weren't human. They weren't warm or filled with organs. They were automatons. Without souls. At least, she thought as much.
The small group a way away seemed to have moved onto something else, a few still peeking over at them. "I'll take that as a compliment, Axel. Now, is there anything else I can do for you?" her pod had calmed down, the whirling stopping. He still seemed to be on guard and Alpha didn't mind it, though Axel clearly did.
He seemed to think, scratching the back of his head before muttering a quiet no. "Well, I'd rather not keep you. It was a pleasure meeting you, if only for a moment Axel" Alpha smiled, nodding her head at him.
"You as well Ma- Alpha! If you are ever free, me and my friends would gladly keep you company!" he almost seemed to yell what he was saying before bowing and walking off. Alpha gave a small wave to him and watched as his companions smacked him on his back and laughed at his return. Companions huh? It was something Alpha sorely missed.
Alpha enjoyed the time she had with her squad. From times of petty squabbling over missing slices of bread or firefights, she always enjoyed every moment with them.
Ever since she woke up in this barren world she thought back to them. What happened to them after she was placed in hibernation? Did they die protecting their countries? Die old with their families?
Alpha wished the best for them all and whatever they did in their final moments.
A low sigh escaped her as she crossed one leg over the other, swinging it back and forth aimlessly. Perhaps she should go and do something? Sitting around was never productive.
"Commander Alpha, what seems to be the issue?" Pod chimed in, floating down to her level. Seems like he caught on.
A click of the tongue and she felt her face morph into a pout, "I want something to do. Sitting around isn't my strong suit" she grumbled, her pod continuing to stare at her.
Pod-002 seemed like it was about to say something but was cut off by a loud yell from the side of the camp. "Yo Alpha! Come here for a sec!" It was Bolt, waving with one hand whilst another was close to her mouth.
"Seems like actions come running" she muttered, standing up. "Please be careful commander, you are still recovering" she ignored her pod and strolled over, sword in hand.
"What do ya need?" she asked, following Bolt as the two made their way over to a small workstation, seemingly belonging to Amakuni.
"It will fucking fit, trust me" "No it won't now get off of it!" currently wrestling over her broken weapon were both the boisterous Jackass and giant Amakuni, yelling at each other. Seated on the giant's lap was her weapon and on his back was the aforementioned Jackass who was currently trying to insert what could only be a new barrel. It was obviously too small but from what they were arguing over.
"I'm surprised you didn't hear them. The two had been going at it for some time" the orange-haired android snorted, crossing her arms as she watched the scene unravel. She probably saw it as amusing, Alpha did not.
Lifting up her sheathed sword she delivered a harsh hit to the android's head causing a loud 'ow' to escape from them. Amakuni seemed to see a chance as he pushed back, forcing the female off his shoulders and to fall onto the ground. "Bastard, I could have broken something" she hissed, standing up and dusting herself off.
"Can't break something that's already broken" snorted the blacksmith, earning a quick middle finger from the scientist.
Alpha exhaled, looking over at Bolt, "Please tell me this isn't why you called me over" she grumbled, causing her to shake her head.
"Nope. But I'm sure Ama can tell ya!" she snickered, giving a wink before walking off.
Amakuni gave a quick nod to her and she returned one back, crossing her arms, sword still in hand. "Pleasure seeing you again Alpha. I would have come and got you myself but I was a bit preoccupied with something" he chuckled, earning a snort from Jackass who had now repositioned herself next to Alpha.
She sent a glare to the blacksmith who sent one back. "How childish can you be" she grumbled, smacking the android in the face earning a yelp from her.
"He did it first!" she grumbled, gasping before grumbling quickly after.
Rubbing her eyes she turned to the blacksmith who shrugged. "Well, either way, I've come across a problem" lifting up her weapon she pointed at a few areas. "I'm missing a few crucial parts, mainly the barrel, some springs, and whatnot. Now I'm sure you'd like to keep this thing so I'll cut to the part you'd probably wanna know" lifting a small map up he unfurled it onto his lap.
Titled at the top was 'Abandoned factory', most likely the place displayed. The paper was stained with ink yet a very clear and well-sketched area of this 'Abandoned factory' was on full display for her to scan over.
"A few clicks West is the Abandoned factory. Even though people say it's abandoned, the place is filled with machines that mess around with the old equipment. Most notably the old weapons areas" he explained, pointing at a few areas on the map.
"Last I heard this place had quite a few good parts in and so I need them if I wanna finish your gun" he scratched his chin, folding the map back up before placing it to the side.
Alpha hummed, nodding her head, "So you want me to get them?" "No, no, of course not. I was gonna ask Anemone to see if she could spare a few members to go get them. I-" he was cut off by alpha holding up a finger as she nodded her head.
"Not many machines you said?" Alpha hummed, looking over at her pod. Even without a face, she could tell it was disappointed in her. "I'll happily have an excuse to move. Besides, I still need to repay you for the sword" she smiled, giving him a slap on the shoulder.
Running a finger under his nose the android let out a smirk as he shook his head. "I'd thought you would say that. Alright, I'll go grab a better map buuuut there might be a problem..." Alpha followed the man's gaze as he drew out his word, looking over at a not-so-happy Anemone behind her war table.
A small chuckle escaped Alpha as Jackass hummed from behind her. The arguing between the two probably didn't help her gaze being sent over to them. "Do you think she heard us?" Jackass whispered shouted earning an even harsher glare from the resistance leader. "I'll take that as a yes".
Without missing a beat the resistance leader walked on over, her glare still as intense. Alpha met back Anemone's glare, the two in a stalemate. Jackass had stepped back, her mouth slightly agape as the two had their staredown. Brown against blue, their two colours clashing. A few members had started to look over at the two and neither seemed to care, continuing to have their silent battle.
The two kept on staring, their eyes unflinching. Alpha barely had time to blink as she continued to stare into the resistance leader's eyes. She wouldn't break. She needed her gun and if she needed to go into enemy territory to get it she damn well would.
With a sigh the android turned away, a strained expression on her face as her shoulders relaxed, her arms being pulled against her chest.
"I won't be able to stop you. Besides, I don't have any jurisdiction over you, Alpha the human" she let out a small smile. Alpha followed, nodding her head as she turned to the blacksmith beside her.
Perhaps this small adventure could have more out of it than just a fixed weapon.
"Ama, you said that this weapons production site had a bunch of different weapon parts?" she questioned receiving a small hum from the male.
"Not per say. I've heard bits and pieces but someone did see a large collection of parts that a few machines were hauled off to who knows where" a chance to get more than she bargained for perhaps? Both Bolt and Amakuni had done a lot for her so maybe getting them a few things would be a perfect way to pay them back?
She was sure the members of the resistance would prefer their currency of nuts and bolts but she was sure that a few weapon parts would make the whispering stop, at least for a while. That, and the two aforementioned androids had done a lot for her, and repaying them was something she wasn't against.
"Then I suppose we've got our hands full then buddy" Alpha grinned, her small pod nodding its metallic frame. It was moments of adventure that brought the best out of Alpha. It was probably the main reason she hadn't gone mad yet. Finding new places, discovering never before seen things. Everything was exciting to her.
Anemone seemed to disappointedly sigh, shaking her head but smiling nonetheless, "It's still dangerous out there you know. You could run into a machine or goliath, or worse". To say they had met less than an hour ago, it was clear that the android cared for her and Alpha appreciated it, giving her a thumbs up.
"I suppose I should give you something huh?" Jackass snickered, leaning on her shoulder. Holding out her hand, glinting in the sun, was a rusty revolver, the same one Alpha had seen her use before. "It ain't much, but does it pack a punch. A few shots and most things go down easy" picking it up, Alpha gave it a quick spin, aiming down the sight and twirling with her finger. Heavier than most weapons she'd handled but seemingly reliable.
Turning her head to the android she gave her a smile, something that seemed to catch the android off guard. Perhaps she wasn't expecting such a reaction? Scratching the back of her head, the hooded android whispered a quick, 'your welcome' before stumbling away slightly.
"One last thing Alpha" Anemone walked up to her again, handing her a map. It was similar to the blacksmiths if not cleaner. No ink splotches and some areas had been filled in more.
"Each member of the resistance is sent to a different part of the city and, in turn, is supposed to mark down anything new they find on their map. Digital or not" picking the map from the resistance members' hands she nodded. "It's so we know if there are any dangerous areas we shouldn't go if you..." she didn't finish but Alpha got the message.
Placing the rusted revolver to her side, strapping it with a makeshift holster that Jackass so kindly provided, Alpha was ready to go again.
Anemone had gracefully gifted her a new backpack which allowed her to carry any parts she found. Not to mention a few rations the twins had prepared for her. How they knew to cook so well was beyond her but she didn't mind it. Besides, she wouldn't be gone for long, at least she didn't think she would.
Her pod floated next to her as she walked out of the resistance entrance, the remains of the carnage from before in front of her, a few androids cleaning it up and scrambling around for any scraps. She felt a little guilty not helping out but she wouldn't demand them hand over anything valuable.
Either way, she adjusted the straps on her new backpack and started to walk towards where the abandoned factory was.
It was time to go.
With a breath of fresh air, Alpha let out a pent-up sigh as she watched the many cars drive below her balcony. The downside to living in a refugee camp was the number of damn people that were there. Lucky for her, she was able to avoid the cramped tents and got herself a, albeit cold, apartment complex.
The camp itself was a large section of Manhattan that had been sectioned off from the outside to keep any of the ill away. Courtesy of her new boss's corporation.
It was a fact that most of humanity wouldn't survive and so those who could have been sectioned off were put onto different humanity-saving programs and, it was safe to say, they were living in luxury.
Most power stations had shut down so electricity and hot water were a commodity that most wanted. And most couldn't get. Those of higher power of course were allowed it, they were the ones giving the people food and shelter after all. Besides, she wasn't complaining. She got a roof over her head and was able to stay healthy thanks to it.
Holding a small mug in her hands as her only warmth, she took a long sip of it and sighed. She had to warm her damn coffee over a fire, something she despised greatly, but it made her warm so she drank it and didn't complain. "Drinking that shit again?" however, someone didn't exactly like it.
Strolling next to her, a bottle of water in their hands was her fiance. Dressed in a woolly jumper and baggy sweatpants, it seemed like they just woke up. They too rested their arms on the balcony railing, looking down below at the passing cars.
They didn't seem particularly happy, then again they weren't happy most of the time, and that's something Alpha found somewhat endearing. Their two personalities mixed quite well and whilst her days of swearing had dimmed, the woman's next to her hadn't.
"I swear to fuck that if we have to live in this shithole for another month I'm gonna break those bastards' necks and throw them into a damn pit" she growled, taking an angry sip from their water. "Damn place is like a fucking graveyard" Alpha chuckled at their language, shaking her head.
The more they swore, the more she wanted to too. "Please, those fucks would get you in an instant. You can't even beat me in an arm wrestle, what says you a damn army" "Well you're part of the army-" "UN" "Same shit. You're a fucking warrior who could bring fucking giants to their knees" her arms flailed as she yelled, a few passerbyers down below looking up and Alpha had to push them back less they be spotted.
Living situations weren't good currently, especially with the rise of cases of the illness that had spread from Japan, yet Alpha kept confident in the UN as well as the last countries with any sort of bastion. This world, albeit in ruins, could be restored.
A/N:
This shit was rushed to hell. This has got to be the worst chapter I have ever written. It has gone through 6 rewrites and was supposed to be double in length but who gives a damn. It's here and done. End of.
There have been a few mistakes in what I've written previously but I cannot give a damn about changing them now so whatever.
Hopefully, there aren't too many mistakes in this chapter and if there are do say and I'll fix them as quickly as possible.
Once again, any reviews are welcome on my writing and thank you for your continued support.
