CHAPTER TEN

Waking up I felt groggy and my eyesight was fading in and out of darkness. Not fully understanding where I was or what had just happened I laid still and tried to blink slowly as I took in my surroundings. While waiting for myself to remember what had happened I became aware that I was floating and instinctively relaxed my now tense muscles knowing that I would float better. Slowly I started testing the strength of my various body parts and found I had enough strength to start treading what I was sure was the ocean water.

My vision finally stopped fading in and out of black and I was able to make out that I was floating in the middle of the ocean with bit's of the airplane strewn in the waters around me. Turning around in the water I saw Jamie floating in the water about twenty yards away from me. She was gasping and bobbing up and down, immediately I started swimming towards her biting my lip harshly as I came to find out that I had bruised if not broken a few ribs as I swam slowly towards. I just managed to reach her when I heard the sound of a boat engine coming closer. Looking up I saw an older man came to the edge of the boat and leaned down holding his arms out and speaking what sounded like Inuit.

While I wasn't fully sure what he was saying I knew that he was here to help me and Jamie and I pushed her towards him first. After he pulled her up into his boat he came back over to the side and reached out for me. As he was pulling me up I noticed the faint crying of an animal and remembered Kujo who was probably floating in the cold waters as well.
The old man helped me over the edge of his boat and onto the deck where I sat down beside Jamie with more then a few grunts of pain from my ribs. Seeing the old man start dragging Jamie into the small cabin that was hopefully heated or at least warmer then the deck I turned to search for the sound and I was surprised to see a small piece of wet fur coming in my direction across the deck. Since I was already sitting on the deck I just opened my arms and Kujo ran into them mewling and shivering like crazy.

As I tried to comfort Kujo and get him warmed up the old man came back out of the cabin and over to me. I managed to stand up with a lot of help from the old man who seemed to be wary of Kujo whom I kept a hold of as we walked to the cabin. Thankfully the cabin was heated and the old man had a couple of blankets that I piled into a nest around Jamie, myself and Kujo.

I must have blacked out because the next thing I knew someone was shaking my shoulder which caused pain to shoot up and down my body from the rough movement. Biting back a few choice words I opened my eyes and tried to focus my blurry gaze on the person in front of me. Seeing an old man come into focus I realized that it was the old guy who's boat we were on.

I couldn't make out everything that he was saying but I could make out the words for follow, home and food so I slowly stood up just remembering Kujo in time to keep him from tumbling off of my lap as I stood up. I wrapped two of the blankets around my shoulders and the other three around Jamie whom the old man then picked up and carried out of the cabin with me following close behind him.

I couldn't tell exactly where we were but I figured I could worry about that later, right now I was more concerned with Jamie. I hadn't noticed while in the water but when I had been wrapping the blankets around her I had noticed a piece of metal sticking out of her left thigh. Thankfully keeping the metal in had made sure she didn't bleed out however there were many things that could go wrong and she needed first aid immediately.

As we got off the boat thankfully there was an old truck near by that we loaded into and the old man drove us to his home. I was close to blacking out a few times as the truck bumped around a lot but thankfully I managed to hold it together and when he parked I slid out first, still holding the now sleeping Kujo while the old man carried Jamie.

After performing some first aid on Jamie and pulling the metal from her leg I changed her clothes and then after a hot shower I changed my own. Thankful to be out of the freezing clothes I sat/laid beside Jamie with Kujo in between us and quickly fell asleep.

It took a few days but I managed to learn the old mans name, Inuksuk, and I was able to understand most of the basic words as long as he said one word at a time but when he spoke a sentence I basically only caught the first two word's and the last one. He seemed like a very happy and nice person and finally after seven days of attempting to communicate the need for a phone, I had an epiphany. I could just draw what I needed and show it to him.

After that revelation I managed to find a notebook and a pencil and drew a SAT phone, showing it to him I saw his eyes light up and he nodded before saying a word in Inuit that I didn't know and immediately leaving the small living room.

Not five minutes later he came back in with a SAT phone and I felt my heart jump a beat as I realized that finally I would be finding out if the others survived the crash. Something I had been trying not to think about since I had remembered the crash had happened.

I hesitated over whose number to try first but ultimately decided on calling Mitch first. Listening to the ring of the phone I was torn between excitement, hope, joy and fear.

"Mitch Morgen. Totally awesome scientist." I heard a male voice say, slightly broken up.
"Mitch, it's Jupiter. Jamie's with me but she's sleeping. How are you? How are the others? Did everyone else survive?" I asked, surprised by the number of questions that were now pouring from my mind out of my mouth.
"...Are you serious? Is this Jupiter? Because if not I promise you I will find you and-!" Mitch started to threaten and I cut him off,
"Yes you mad scientist it's me, and I'm kind of hoping you will find us. I have no idea where we are. Oh! Mitch I have him. Kujo. The cub I still have him."

"It really is you. Just stay on the phone I'll get the others, were all in the hospital right now. Jackson got the worse of it he now has a broken arm as well but besides a few bumps and bruises the rest of us are fine. Hold on a second. . . guys! Guys! It's Jupiter! She's fine, Jamie's with her and she still has the cub!"
