Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Shattered Legacies. Enjoy the 2200-word chapter. I don't own Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto and a few others do.
Sakura Haruno wanted to laugh at how silly her life had been. She wanted to snort at how ridiculous the events that had led to this moment had been. She didn't, however. sakura had years to come to terms with her life choices.
'I had chosen to pursue someone who hadn't the faintest care in the world who I was.' Sakura mentally stated to herself as she started to walk back to work.
She hadn't easily gotten over her crush on Sasuke. The man had been in her heart for years, even after he betrayed the village after he had almost killed her. Sakura had almost wondered what would have happened if she had followed him into his exile. Sasuke probably would have thrown her at his brother as bait.
"Hello, Ms. Haruno," Sakura heard while she rotated on her heel. "My mommy heard you were opening a new hospital." She heard while she nodded to the child.
She bent down slowly to a knee as she waited for the child to speak once more. She remembered that it had taken some sort of a miracle for her to get the materials for said building.
"That's right, it's a hospital for children just like you," Sakura said while she slowly started to stand up. "I still need to meet with the Hokage to get the rest of the materials," Sakura added before she smiled at the girl who stood in front of her.
'He hasn't talked a lot since what happened with Sasuke. I'm starting to wonder if he accepted that his friend had left the village. Then again? I'm starting to wonder if I had accepted it.' Sakura thought while she started to continue on her path.
The woman had wondered what happened next if she was simply buying time at the end of the day. There were still flaws in the world to fix. She also had plenty of stuff at the moment.
Sakura slowly found her footing once more as she started her march towards Hokage tower. She had to roll her eyes at the fact that the goofball who had been her teammate became the woman who ruled the town. It had been rather ridiculous…
"Then again? We had Kakashi as the Hokage… That was new." Sakura stated with a frown as she continued walking. "This village becomes weirder every single day we live in it," Sakura added while she rolled her eyes.
She tilted a gaze towards the mountain which had every leader in the village's history. She almost wondered if they were annoyed by the fact, they had to carve more statues with each new leader.
"Ms. Haruno." Sakura heard as she slowly started to frown anew. "How are you?" She heard while she crossed her arms slowly.
Her frown wasn't written across her face as she noted the ANBU. She knew why they had come at the end of the day. It was the same reason each day and it often made her wonder if her friend was ok.
"I don't need an escort, Frog," Sakura stated while she started to press a finger to her head. "Does the Hokage believe I do?" Sakura asked as she raised an eyebrow before Frog finally spoke.
"No. he requires you to come with us, however." Frog stated to which he frowned at himself under the mask.
The Haruno woman said nothing at the moment. She was aware of the fact they were simply doing a job that was required of them. She was also aware of the fact there was some logical reason for them to want to protect her. There was a shortlist of powerful and skilled medical ninjas in town besides Lady Tsunade? She topped it pretty easily which meant if ANYTHING happened to her? Konoha was going to have lost its second-best medical-nin.
She was also aware that even if her former teammate had gotten over his crush on her? She was still considered one of his best friends. If he hadn't been interested? He'd probably not invite her here.
"I was on my way to speak to the Hokage as of this moment," Sakura stated with a frown that seemed to widen with each second. "Does this mean something bad had happened?" Sakura asked with another raised eyebrow.
No answer greeted her question. It meant either they were under orders not to tell her, they didn't know any better than she did, or there was simply no good answer. Sakura said nothing for a good 30 seconds before she finally closed her eyes and nodded.
"Fine. I'll come with you." Sakura stated with a frown as she slowly fell into step with the village soldiers. "Someone is hurt, I assume?" Sakura asked with a nod greeting her question.
It made her frown once more as she realized they had probably contacted her for a medical emergency. She was interested in whom it was if they had come to ask her for her help on this matter. She assumed it didn't seem to matter at the moment. Someone was hurt. It wasn't her place to judge someone based on their affiliation. It helped that it was part of being a medical-nin since they were simply a part of the city anyone took to protecting.
They still said nothing and simply chattered to each other. She couldn't blame them for ignoring her as she wasn't part of their small group. She wasn't part of them, nor had she anything when it came down to it.
Still? There was a lot to be done as of now. She had a lot on her mind and this wasn't helping when it came down to it. Sakura said nothing while she frowned. There was a lot more to be done when it came down to it.
Then again? There was a lot she hadn't expected from her friend when it came down to it. she had a lot to be happy about on his plate. She didn't at all wish to bother anyone nor creature a scene in which people were bothered or disturbed. There had been too much of that in the world already and she'd be damned if she added to that total. She did wish the man didn't fret over his friends and how they seemed to be placed in hard situations at the moment. His friends were all shinobi and he hadn't remembered that it seemed.
'He's got one of the most powerful monsters in the world inside of him and he still doesn't realize we can handle things similar to that. We fought a goddess and it didn't seem to click in his head that I can handle myself.' Sakura mentally stated before she mentally rolled her eyes.
It seemed as if the entire world decided that simply because she wasn't her teacher that she wasn't anything special. She was anything but happy at this label yet there was little and almost nothing she had left at the end of the day to change it. If they wanted to label her as it seems as of the moment? Then she'd do what she was capable of not to disturb that type of problem. It only made certain that they underestimated her as of now.
She hadn't yet pondered as to what to do next when it comes down to it. There was a lot to do next before it was all said and done. She slowly strolled after her friends while she tapped her fingers on her side. She seemed far too willing to do next before she smiled to herself.
Then again? She had been rather odd when it comes to their topics when she considered it. He had become a rather odd man in the years since the war had ended, a man who was honestly the oddest leader she could fathom trying to be the Hokage.
"Sorry, Ms. Haruno. We're just following orders." One of the ANBU agents stated to which Sakura only rolled her eyes at this. "We will allow you to go about your business when you have met with the Hokage as per his orders." The ANBU agent stated which was met with an under the breath sigh.
"Let's just see what he wishes," Sakura said while placing a hand on her temples. "Only he could make this a public spectacle rather than just sending a shadow clone or a messenger," Sakura muttered to which there was no real reply.
"As I said? Just following orders." Sakura heard as she sighed and waved her hands back and forth in the air.
"I'm not blaming you. I'm blaming the way things are." Sakura stated with a roll of her eyes. "How bad are things if he sent an ANBU squad?" Sakura questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"Only as bad as it appears, Ms. Haruno." Another agent stated before the first seemed to sigh and glance around. "All we're doing is following orders. I don't think anyone here wants to start issues with someone who's friends with the Hokage." Another agent added to her at the second.
This had become a far harder pill to swallow. Her friend had honestly been odd at the moment. She hadn't seen him since his wedding. Sakura didn't say anything about how the man was probably swamped with work, she remembered Lady Tsunade mentioning how hard the office was to be. There were more problems with ruling the city and it seemed as if he had found that out in the way she had.
Still? Sakura was interested in what he had been doing. He had been a recluse for the most part since he had taken office. Sakura was understanding that he had been a lot harder on himself when he had been given the office. Yet he hadn't shown his face at the second when it came down to it.
Yet? She expected this, he hadn't been entirely ready for the pitfalls that may have awaited him. Not yet at least. Sakura did feel bad that her friend wasn't able to entirely adapt to it without striking a balance, it wasn't her place to tell him what was to be expected of her at the second.
"Does he want me for a certain reason or is it just for a personal meeting?" Sakura questioned as she tried to get any details from him. "Easier said than done," Sakura stated to which there was no answer.
It made her ponder what her old friend had been up to. All the power in the world politically, perhaps one of the strongest shinobi physically, yet no ambitions now that he had climbed to the top.
"I wish I knew, Ms. Haruno. All he told us was it was important and he asked for you." She heard as she frowned.
'Is it because I'm a medical-nin? Because he knows I'm not the only medical ninja in town. Hell, I'm not even one of the best, not yet. Lady Tsunade says I still have some lessons to learn, always need improvements and I can't say I blame her. The second I get cocky is the second someone will show me just how little I understand.' Sakura thought as she walked further and further into the city.
She felt off at the moment like something was hunting her. It almost made her get into a fighting stance if it came down to it. Yet? There was no sign of it nor what had caused this to come to pass. She lowered her hands which seemed to have been off handily balled into fists. It had made her curious about what was hunting them or at least what had spooked her into the combat stance.
The escorts seemed to glance around, not noticing what had drawn her into this type of stance at the second. It had been some time before the Haruno had fought last and some of the soldiers even appeared to honestly be curious why they had been this way. The more time that went on only convinced them of this.
After all, the woman had helped fight a god, what use would a few special force soldiers do if they had that type of power under their control? What was to come? It made them feel worthless at the time considering 3 of the most powerful shinobi walked around town like they owned it, which wasn't exactly far off the mark with the type of power they commanded.
Still? She marched forward, herself at ease for only a few seconds. This was going to be something odd.
There was more on the second.
