Chapter five

Bella

The following weekend had arrived, and I had spent the week trying (and failing) not to think about Edward Cullen. Alice had spent all week talking about her date with Jasper and now it was Friday afternoon, I was tired of hearing about Jasper. She was currently getting ready and was practically yelling at me from her room to where I sat on the sofa in the living room. I had my laptop open researching for my latest assignment.

"You're not going to spend all weekend working on that are you?" Alice asked coming into the room.

"No," I replied. "I got a new book to read later."

Alice rolled her eyes at me, "You need to get a life."

"I have a life." I defended myself.

"You have a stalkerish ex and a term paper, that's not a life," Alice replied.

"He's not a stalker," I said.

"How many times has he showed up here or waited for you after class?" she demanded. "That's what I thought." She continued when I said nothing.

I glared but still said nothing. Finally, Alice walked out the door with a final wave goodbye. I sighed in relief at her absence. I loved Alice like a sister but sometimes she could be a lot to handle.

She was right about Jacob though. He had taken on stalkerish behavior as of late. I've had to threaten to call the cops more than once to get to stop banging on the door. I walked at a fast pace to my truck to escape him after class. Lost in thought I was startled when Rose opened the door.

"Get dressed. We're going out." She said without looking at me.

I glared at her, "what?"

"There's a fraternity party tonight and we're going." She explained like she was talking to a child.

"So, go. Why do I have to go?" I demanded.

"Alice is on a date. Who else is going to go with me?" She said shrugging.

"Um… Tanya? Kate? Irina? Hell, go with Lauren and Jessica for all I care. But I'm not going." I said.

She glared at me storming out of the room.

Two hours later she came back into the living room with the phone to her ear and I knew she was talking to Tanya. There was no way she had called Jessica or Lauren. She gave me a small wave as she walked out the door. I knew she wasn't mad I had refused, If she had held up hope that I would go she would have put up a bigger fight.

I was alone once again. I began working on my paper, but after a few minutes, my phone rang. I looked at the caller Id and sighed. It was my dad, Charlie. I could guess why he was calling.

"Hi, Dad," I said answering the phone.

"Hi Bells," he replies.

"what's up?" I asked knowing he'd need promoting to get to the point.

"Sue and I were talking about coming to see you soon," he began. I was shocked by that and immediately suspicious. He and Sue (his girlfriend) wouldn't visit without a reason.

"Why?" I question.

"I can't visit my only daughter?" he demanded, and I could tell I'd insulted him.

"You never do," I replied.

"I know and I should." He said then paused. I knew this was the reason for his call. "So… I ran into Jake the other day…"

"Charlie don't," I said. I knew it. I knew his call had to do with Jacob.

"You're being unfair Bells," Charlie said anyway.

"Unfair would be marrying someone I'm not in love with. Jake says he'd be happy but that's not true. I'd be miserable therefore he'd be miserable and that is not a marriage I want to be a part of. Besides marriage isn't even something I want; I've seen where marriage leads and that's not a path I want to walk." I explained.

Charlie sighs, "I can't convince you to change your mind?"

"Dad…" I said.

"Alright, alright." Charlie conceded. "I got to go; Sue has dinner ready. I love you, Bells."

"Love you to dad," I replied hanging up.

I laid my phone down and rubbed my face in my hands. I couldn't focus on my paper anymore, so I closed my laptop and got ready for bed. I took a little while but sleep finally came.
