Chapter 4: Remembering In Love: Part 1
Reaching the Lookout, Luke was amazed at how big it was and somehow seemed familiar to him.
"Why does this place seem familiar?" He asked walking up to it.
"I don't know. Maybe since we're a famous group you've seen it on T.V. or maybe walked past it a couple times."
"Could be." At that moment we heard a couple voices.
"Mommy! You're home!" Kaylee said as she and Carter ran out and hugged me.
"Yes I am." I said hugging them back.
"Where'd you go?" Carter asked.
"I went to daddy's grave for a little while."
"Oh it's that day." Kaylee asked cautiously as I quietly sighed.
"Yes. Two years ago today." I said as Luke then realized what they were talking about.
"Oh is today the day your husband was killed?
"Yes it was." I said in the way that the two didn't realize I wasn't talking to them.
"Could you tell us another story about daddy?" They asked as I smiled,
"Of course. Let's go to my room and look at pictures as well."
"Yay!" They said running into the Lookout as I laughed.
"You have adorable pups." Luke said as we were walking inside and I smiled.
"Thanks."
"Hey Skye." A voice said as I turned and saw Ryder.
"Oh hey Ryder."
"How are you doing, today?" He asked as I sighed.
"As much as I can.:
"Yeah if you need anything don't hesitate to ask."
"Okay."
"Oh how are his parents doing?"
"Good. We talked today and I checked to see how they were."
"Yeah. I bet they miss him."
"More than you know. He was their son."
"Yeah. Well I'll let you carry on."
"Okay." I said as Ryder left and we continued walking.
"I'm guessing you were talking about your husband's parents."
"Yeah. It has been a rough couple of years for them."
"I bet."
"Yeah."
"What was his name if you don't mind me asking?"
"I don't mind. His name was Chase and he was my best friend and love for as long as I can remember."
"Nice." Reaching my room we walked in as we saw Kaylee and Carter there. Going over to the bed, Luke laid down as I grabbed a photo album then laid down next to the two.
"Okay what story would you like to hear?" I asked.
"Ooh could you tell us the story of how you and daddy got engaged." Kaylee said excitedly.
"No please. No romance." Carter said as I laughed.
"Sorry Carter but mine and daddy's relationship was about romance."
"Ugh. Fine." He said as I laughed again as I flipped over to the page with pictures of us before our engagement as I started telling the story.

It was New Year's Eve. The pups were just outside playing while Ryder was inside the Lookout. They were all in different groups. Marshall, Rubble, and Zuma were having a snowball fight while Rocky was working on a couple things he needed to finish and Chase and Skye were underneath a tree talking with each other. They have gone far in their relationship to the point that Chase is starting to figure out how to ask Skye if she would marry him. As they were relaxing all their pup tags suddenly lit up.
"Paw Patrol to the Lookout!" Ryder's voice rang through their pup tags.
"Ryder needs us!" They all shouted as they ran towards the Lookout and into the elevator.
"One, two three... Where's Marshall?" Chase said as he did a quick head count and realized they were short one. At that moment Marshall came in running not seeing a soccer ball. When the others saw what was about to happen they immediately tried to warn him.
"Marshall watch out!" They said but it was too late. Marshall then tripped on the ball which caused him to crash into the others which let out a collective groan.
"Well looks like I made a goal." He joked as everyone just started laughing as the elevator rose up to the middle as they got in their uniforms then continued to the top. Once they reached the top they exited the elevator and lined up followed by Chase saying,
"Paw Patrol ready for action Ryder sir."
"Thanks for hurrying up pups but actually there is no emergency." Ryder said which made the others get confused. "I just got a call from the mayor of New York and he invited all of us to go to the ball dropping that is going to happen tonight."
"Really!" Skye said excitedly.
"Yep. We'll be leaving in a couple hours so make sure you are packed for one nights stay." Ryder said as the pups immediately got to packing but Chase and Skye stayed behind in the hanger area.
"Hey Ryder is it okay if Skye and I invite our parents to the celebration cause I have relatives in New York that they haven't seen in years." Chase said.
"And my parents never have been there yet." Skye said.
"Yeah its okay I don't mind. I'm sure they will have fun."
"Thanks Ryder." They said.
"No problem." He said as the two turned and headed back down stairs to start packing. Entering into the elevator they rode it down as they talked.
"So you have family in New York." Skye said.
"Yeah my Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Jonathan live there. They actually own a very nice house and property. We could possibly go visit them when we get there."
"Really?" She said as they exited the elevator.
"Yeah you guys haven't met and unless my parents told them without telling me they don't know that you and I are in a relationship."
"Ahh. Okay I would love to meet your family."
"Great. Once we arrive we can head over there."
"Okay. Now let's get packing."
"As you wish." He said as Skye giggled then they turned to their pup houses and started packing. An hour later they were all packed up and ready to start their trip. As they were loading up the Paw Patroller Katie then came by.
"Hey pups." She said.
"Hey Katie. Are you coming along with us?" Skye asked.
"Yep. Ryder invited me to come along."
"Cool. We are just about ready to head out so you are just in time." Marshall said.
"Cool. I am going to go see Ryder then we can go from there."
"Okie dokie." Rubble said as Katie walked into the Lookout.

After a couple hours of travelling they then reached the outskirts of New York City. Stopping in a parking lot Ryder then spun around to face the pups.
"Okay guys we're here. You can explore around the city while Katie and I go look for a hotel that allows dogs." He said as the dogs exited the Paw Patroller.
"Hey Chase are you going to see your aunt and uncle?" Marshall said.
"Yeah I am going to take Skye with me this time."
"That's fine. Have fun."
"You too."
"So Chase how far away do they live?" Skye asked as they started walking.
"Not far. Actually they live just a couple blocks from here."
"Nice. When was the last time you saw them?"
"Um I think it was when I was really young like I'd say a year or two before I joined."
"Cool. So it's been about five years."
"Somewhere around there. Well this is the house." Chase said as they started walking up a driveway.
"Wow you weren't kidding when you said really close."
"Yep." He said as he knocked on the door. A few seconds later the door was opened and Charlotte peeked her head out then immediately opened the door wider when she saw Chase there.
"Chase." She said as she pulled him in for a hug.
"Hello to you too Aunt Charlotte. Long time no see."
"Exactly. Oh where are my manners come in." She said as they walked inside then saw John and Christine there already.
"Oh hey mom and dad. You got here quicker than we did."
"Hey Chase and Skye. And yes once you called us and told us that you were coming here and that we could come along we immediately packed up and came here." Christine said as Chase, Skye, and Charlotte sat down on the couches.
"Nice."
"So could we get some introductions here? I see we have a new person in the room." Jonathan said.
"Oh yeah. Aunt Charlotte, Uncle Jonathan this is Skye. She is one of my teammates." Chase introduced.
"Nice to meet you Skye." Charlotte said.
"Likewise."
"And don't forget Chase." Christine said.
"Oh I would never forget. I just delay." He joked.
"Okay Chase. I have a feeling they would like to know." Skye said.
"Okay okay. As they were just talking about Skye is also my girlfriend."
"Really?!"
"Yep. We have been together for two years." Skye said hesitantly.
"Yeah two years just about."
"Cool." Jonathan said.
"Yep."
"But don't forget the rules we have around here about dating couples." Charlotte said.
"Aunt Charlotte."
"Charlotte not here." Jonathan said to his wife.
"But..." At that moment Skye's pup tag lit up.
"Oh well I guess I am going to have to take this. I'll be right back." She said standing up.
"I'll come with you." Chase said as he quickly followed before his aunt could say anything else.
As soon as they got outside Skye answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Hey Skye it's me." Rebecca said.
"Oh hey mom what can I do for you?"
"Well we just got into town and we were just wondering where you are at the moment."
"Oh I am with Chase at his aunt and uncle's house."
"Cool. Will you be there for a while."
"Probably. Hey maybe you could come over."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I am sure they wouldn't mind."
"In fact let me go ask them." Chase said as he walked inside.
"Was that Chase?"
"Yeah he just went inside to ask them." At that moment Chase walked back outside.
"They said that they wouldn't mind if you come on over." Chase said.
"Okay. If you could send us the address we can be right over."
"Sure. I'll leave it in the message."
"Okay we'll see you soon."
"Okay I'll be outside waiting for you."
"Okay love you bye."
"Bye." Skye said as she ended the call. "So what was your aunt talking about when she said about rules of dating couples?"
"Oh my aunt is very particular about that if anybody is dating that they must not be found alone together or something so yeah."
"Well we're alone together."
"True but I am sure that someone is watching us."
"That is totally not creepy."
"Yeah but we love her even though she has this mindset. She apparently did it when my parents were dating then when she and Uncle Jonathan started dating which is kind of why I was here last time but anyway my mom joked around with her and did the same thing to her."
"Wow. That's funny."
"Yep." At that moment Chase's pup tag lit up. "Hello?"
"Hey Chase it's me Ryder."
"Oh hey Ryder what can I do for you?"
"I'm just wondering where you and Skye are."
"Oh, we are at my aunt and uncle's house with mine and Skye's parents."
"Okay that's fine. So I'm guessing you'll be staying there for a while."
"If that's okay with you."
"That is fine. Just make sure you meet up with the rest of us at eleven-thirty."
"Okay we can do that. See you later."
"See ya." Ryder said as they ended the call. After the call ended they saw Marcus and Rebecca turn into the driveway. Standing up they walked over and greeted them.
"Hey mom, dad."
"Hey Skye and Chase. This is a nice place."
"Thanks. My aunt and uncle own it. Want to go inside."
"Yeah." Marcus said as they walked inside.
"Hey guess who made it." Skye said when they got inside.
"Hey there they are." Christine said as they each gave hugs to each other. But when Charlotte saw Rebecca she could not believe her eyes.
"Rebecca?" She asked surprised, catching everyone off guard. Looking up Rebecca gasped at who she saw.
"No way! Charlotte is that really you?"
"It's me." She said as they hugged each other.
"Aunt Charlotte, Rebecca, you two know each other?" Chase asked slightly confused and surprised at the same time.
"Ha knew her. We were very close friends when we were younger. She lived next door to us at one point until my family had to move."
"And let me tell you we had so much fun when we were pups." Rebecca said.
"Wait so you're telling me that my mom and your aunt used to be best friends. Okay this has to certainly be the most surprising news I have heard ever." Skye said.
"Tell me about it." Chase said.
"So how long has it been?" Rebecca asked.
"I think about ten years or so."
"Wow."
"Well Charlotte you probably should go check on the food."
"Oh yeah you're actually in time for dinner."
"What's for dinner Aunt Charlotte?" Chase asked.
"Now that you'll have to wait to find out. Becca mind helping me with the food."
"No of course not. Lead the way." She said as they headed to the kitchen.
"Uncle Jonathan?" Chase asked still wondering.
"Well I guess now I can't tell you."
"Yes, don't say anything." Charlotte called from the kitchen.
"I won't, dear. So Chase and Skye have you had any plans about engagement or anything like that?"
"Well I wouldn't know anything about that cause I'm not supposed to." Skye joked as everyone laughed.
"Well we haven't had any plans about that. We are taking it slow right now. Just learning more about each other."
"That's the best stage in any relationship."
"But I'm sure that if any plans were being made that you would know as soon as possible."
"Well if you guys are done with your little chat if you wash up dinner is ready."
"Okay we'll be right there."
"I'll show you where the bathroom is Skye. Follow me." Chase said as he led her up the stairs and down a little hallway.
"Is this the only bathroom here?"
"No there is one downstairs but that one will be used a lot so I figured that we could use the other one. It's right here." He said as they entered into a bathroom.
"Cool. It's a double vanity."
"Yep." He said as they started washing their hands. But then they don't know who started it but they started having a splashing fight. After about ten seconds they stopped but then they heard Jonathan call from downstairs.
"You guys coming."
"Yeah. We're coming." Chase said as they walked downstairs and to the kitchen.
"What were you doing? I hope you weren't getting into anything yet." Charlotte said.
"Aunt Charlotte. Stop we weren't doing anything like that." Chase said.
"How about we just get to dinner." Jonathan said as they started going through the line. When they got to the pot Chase then saw what was in there.
"Yes you made your pulled pork."
"Yep cause I know how much you like it."
"Is it delicious?" Skye asked.
"Trust me it will be the best pulled pork you will ever have. It is amazing." Chase said as they got theirs.
"Well if you say so." After they got their plates made they started to head out to the living room when Chase then tapped on Skye's shoulder. Pointing to the backyard they then walked outside and sat at the table on the deck. "Wow this is a nice backyard."
"Yeah and fun fact when Derrick and I were younger and we were here last we would roll down that hill over there and then jump into the pool and let me tell you my aunt was so mad. She did not like finding pieces of grass in her pool."
"Because they are hard to pull out." Charlotte said as the two saw her and Jonathan walk out and sit down with them. "You aren't planning on doing that again are you?"
"No Aunt Charlotte I was just telling her what Derrick and I would do."
"Good cause you know I would hate that."
"Yes we know. That's why we would do that."
"Yep." Soon they finished their dinner but they were enjoying the fresh air when Rebecca came out.
"Hey Charlotte the oven is beeping."
"Okay thanks Becca." She said as she stood up.
"What are you making Aunt Charlotte?"
"I am making my strawberry shortcake."
"Another one of my favorite things."
"You know it. Once I heard you were coming I knew I had to do it." She said as she walked inside along with the other three.

A couple hours later Chase and Skye were sitting on the couch watching a movie while Marcus and Jonathan were talking about random stuff when Chase tapped on Skye's shoulder. Looking up she saw him motioning her to follow him. Getting up they walked outside where it was nice and quiet.
"So why did we come out here?"
"I figured that we could take a little walk together where it was nice and quiet."
"In the dark?"
"Stay here. I've got just the thing." He said walking away as Skye stood there a little confused. "Are you ready?" He called out.
"Uh I guess so." She said as at that moment he flipped a switch as the whole backyard suddenly lit up with lights. "Woah." She breathed in amazement as Chase walked up to her.
"Is this better?"
"I believe so." She joked as he chuckled a little bit. As they continued walking they were unaware that they were being watched. At the house Charlotte was looking out the window when Christine walked up to her.
"You know they wouldn't like it if they saw you watching them."
"I know but I can't believe that he found someone that he truly loves."
"Yeah. She is wonderful. What are they doing right now?"
"Right now they are walking through the garden with the yard lights on."
"Okay. Why don't we leave them to it now?"
"Okay." Charlotte said as they walked off. Back with Chase and Skye they were walking near some Cherry Blossom trees when Chase thought of something.
"Hey Skye come with me. I want to show you something." He said as he gently pulled her paw.
"Where are we going?"
"Somewhere that will remind you of someplace but it is not exactly that place."
"Um okay." She said confused as she followed him to an area covered by trees.
"Right through here." He said as they walked in between the trees and came to this one area. Looking up Skye saw something that did definitely do what Chase said.
"Woah it is just like our little cliff side in Adventure Bay."
"Yep. I found this place the last time I was here and I remembered it and thought that you would like it."
"I love it." She said as they sat there overlooking the valley below for a little bit. After a little while they headed back into the house. After about thirty minutes Charlotte came into the room.
"Hey Chase, when did Ryder say to meet them?"
"He said at eleven-thirty."
"Okay then we should get going in a few minutes."
"Okay." A few minutes later they all got in two vans with Chase and Skye riding with Charlotte and Jonathan.
"So Skye how have you liked your visit here?" Jonathan asked.
"It has been wonderful."
"That's good. But it's only going to get better with the New Year's Celebration." Charlotte said.
"We can't wait." Chase said. Soon they got to Times Square where they eventually found a parking spot then headed to find the others. After a couple minutes of searching they found Ryder and Katie. "Hey Ryder." Chase called out as Ryder turned towards the voice and saw Chase and Skye walking towards them.
"Hey Chase and Skye, glad to see you."
"Same did we get here on time?"
"Yes you did."
"Okay." When it got to five minutes before midnight Chase walked over to Ryder while Skye was talking with her parents. "Hey Ryder is it okay if I take Skye somewhere?"
"What about the celebration?"
"I know a place we can go and see it if we can't make it back in time. We'll only be gone about ten minutes."
"Okay. Go have fun."
"Thanks Ryder." He said as he walked over to where Skye was. "Hey Skye come with me really quick."
"Okay." She said as they walked off as Rebecca and Charlotte looked at each other. "Where are we going?"
"I found a place where we can watch the celebration without a bunch of people nearby."
"Okay then lead the way." Walking up a path they soon got to a clearing with a little set up there. "Oh Chase how do you keep finding these places?" She asked as she couldn't take her eyes off the set up.
"Well the first one you found I just stumbled upon it."
"True."
"The one at Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Jonathan's I found several years back. Then this one I found earlier when I went out to get a couple supplies for Aunt Charlotte."
"Wait when did you do that?"
"While you were sleeping."
"Ah. I see you did more than just getting supplies for Charlotte."
"Hey I wanted to show my girl how much she means to me."
"Well I love it." She said as they sat down. When it got to eleven fifty-nine Chase then made a move.
"Skye."
"Yeah Chase."
"Do you mind standing up for me."
"Um okay." She said as she stood up then looked down at Chase.
"Skye you know we have been a couple for two years now and you are the only one I have had my heart with all these years. Well I don't want to be girlfriend and boyfriend anymore." He said which got Skye a little worried that he wanted to break up. But then he started to pull something out that started to take her breath away as she then knew what was about to happen. "I would like to be married to the best girl in all the world. So with all the love in my heart. Will you marry me?" He asked holding up a box with a pin in it with their initials on it.
"Of course I will marry you. Yes!" She said excitedly and right as she said yes it struck midnight and everything started going off and cheering could be heard in the background as Chase got up and they hugged while crying tears of joy in Skye's case. When they broke apart Chase then put the pin on Skye's collar as she was smiling the biggest smile ever as they then turned and started watching the fireworks as Chase pulled her in close to him. After the fireworks were done Chase then turned to Skye.
"I hate to break up our moment alone but we should get going back down to Ryder and the others."
"That's okay. I had fun here with you." She said as they packed everything up and headed down to the parking lot where the others were at. When they got there they saw everyone standing there talking with each other. Seeing the two walking towards them Rebecca then walked over to the two.
"Hey did you have fun."
"Yeah we went to this one spot where we could watch the whole show without anyone getting in the way. It was amazing." Skye said.
"Sounds like fun." Then Rebecca noticed the pin on Skye's collar. "Where did this come from?" She asked as Skye was trying to hold back a big smile.
"Well you see we did more than just sit there."
"No. You are not." She asked shocked.
"We are."
"That is wonderful." She said as she hugged the both of them. Turning to the others who were all watching them by now she gave the announcement. "They're engaged!" She said excitedly as the others were shocked.
"No way." They said as they all swarmed in towards the two. Once they started to clear up Charlotte then spoke up.
"Well I guess we better celebrate."
"Aunt Charlotte no. We don't want to impose."
"It's no imposition. There is still more pulled pork that I can heat up."
"Pulled pork. I'm in." Marshall said as everyone laughed.
"Well I guess we can come over." Ryder said.
"Okay. Feel free to follow us." Jonathan said as everyone started heading to the vehicles.
"Hey Aunt Charlotte Skye and I will be riding with our parents."
"Okay."
"I'll ride with you Charlotte." Marshall said as he hopped in their car with them.
"Okay." Soon enough they all reached Charlotte and Jonathan's house. Entering in they then headed to the living room as they all talked while Charlotte started heating up the pulled pork.
"So tell us, how did he ask you?" Jonathan asked as Skye smiled as she was leaning against Chase who had his paws wrapped around her.
"Well, so he took me up on this cliff side that had a great view of the fireworks and all and it got to about a minute until midnight and he had me stand up and as I was standing he was talking to me and at one point I got scared thinking he wanted to break up because he said he didn't want to be girlfriend and boyfriend anymore and he took a quick pause but then he pulled out the box with it in there and he asked me."
"Nice."
"Yeah and the moment I said yes the clock struck midnight and the fireworks started going off."
"Woah that sounds amazing." Rebecca said.
"It was."
"Though I didn't mean to scare you." Chase said.
"It's okay." She said as they continued to have talk. A little while later they started eating the pulled pork and continue when it got time for the others to head over to the hotel.
"Well we need to get going. Are you two going to stay here for the night?" Ryder asked.
"As long as it's okay with you guys." Chase said.
"I'm fine with it." Ryder said.
"And we'd love for you guys to spend the night with us." Charlotte said.
"Okay."
"We'll come by around ten to pick you two up."
"Okay. We'll see you tomorrow." Skye said.
"Okay." He said as they left.
"Well why don't I show you to your rooms." Charlotte said.
"Okay." Chase said as she led them upstairs.
"So Chase you'll be in the same room as last time."
"Okay."
"And Skye you can sleep in here." Charlotte said as she showed them a couple rooms across the hall from each other.
"Okay. Thank you."
"Of course. We'll be going to bed shortly so you can stay up for a little while longer if you want."
"Okay. Thanks Aunt Charlotte."
"No problem." She said as she headed downstairs. Tapping on her shoulder, Chase motioned for her to go into his room as they shut the door and sat down on the bed.
"I honestly still cannot believe that we're engaged."
"Same but I promise that I will never leave you." He said as she smiled.
"That's all I want. That and to eventually get married to you." She said as he laughed a little.
"Well that will be coming here soon."
"Good." She said as he laughed again. A little while later they said goodnight to each other as Skye headed over to her room.

The next day after a slow start everyone woke up as they all had breakfast together before Ryder and the others came as they said goodbye and headed back to Adventure Bay.

"And that's how daddy and I got engaged." I said finishing the story.
"Cool. Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Jonathon are awesome." Kaylee said.
"That they are." I said. "Now why don't you two go on back outside?"
"Okay bye mommy." They said running out.
"Bye." I said as the door closed and I turned to Luke. "What do you think?"
"It's wonderful. Chase sounds like he was so much in love with you." He said as I smiled.
"He was. The funny thing is that I wasn't in love with him from the very beginning."
"Really?!"
"Yeah. I kind of knew he had a crush on me but at first I just wanted to be friends plus I was going out with somebody else."
"Okay. I got to hear this story." He said getting comfortable as I laughed then started telling the story.

Hey guys here is chapter 4. I have had a lot of time on my hands recently and decided to post another chapter. As you can tell this chapter has been a long one. That is why I decided to split it into several chapters. Don't know how many chapters there will be concerning these memories of Skye's but I do have several already written so all that's left in those is to write the surrounding dialogue outside of the memories.
