Let The Chaos Ensue…
Chapter 25: Running
September 8th, 9:34 AM, Utah, Hidden Haven Caverns
The energy of the universe shifted, and as he was walking through the tunnels of Hidden Haven, Jim could sense something was not right. With a curt goodbye to Blinky, he quickly made his way to the surface. Just barely missing Indigo's call.
Running on all fours in the brush, the only direction he followed was the one that created the deep pit in his stomach.
He followed it all the way back to Arcadia in a back alley, right up to Arthur Stark and his shotgun, and right between him and indigo. Jumping into the space between to save the love of his life.
The shotgun went off, and Jim's body rolled toward Indigo.
"Jim!" She screamed, scrambling forward on her hands and knees against the wall she was pinned against.
The troll moaned and slowly got up, blood seeping his white shirt. He barely acknowledged the girl other then wrapping her waist in his tail and moving her behind him. His whole posture threatening and defensive toward the man with the gun. Fire was aglow in his eyes as they burned red.
"Jim…" Indi said. "I-I'm scared." Her voice shook, her body was trembling, and her tear stained cheeks were soaked with tears.
"You foul creature," Arthur said. "Go back to hell where you came from!"
Ignoring the man, and now paying more attention to the distraught state that Indi was in, he turned around, scooped her up bridal style and jumped onto the rooftop and dashed away, back to his house.
The door slammed behind him as he set Indi down in front of the door. The girl in question completely crumpling to the floor in tears. Barbara came from the upstairs asking about the commotion.
"Oh god, Indi, what's wrong?! Jim how are you back?"
Jim snarled and his tail whipped behind him. "If that son of a bitch tries to even touch you I'll kill him," he growled.
"Who? What's going on?" Barbara yelled.
"My dad, he found me, he's trying to kill me."
"What? Why?"
Indi looked exasperated at the questions, even with the tears. "I don't know? He's a shitty parent?"
"Well, I'm a shitty parent, and you don't see me trying to kill Jim," she scoffed.
"I think we're making light of the situation," Jim snapped, his eyes still red.
"What are we going to do?" Barbara asked.
"I'm gonna deal with him, how I dealt with all my other problems."
"Jim, you're not going to kill him!" His mother scolded.
"Why not?!"
"He's a living, breathing, human."
"And Gunmar, and Bular weren't living, breathing, trolls?"
"That's different,"
"How?"
"They're tro…" She paused, then chewed on her lip. "I'm not going to finish that sentence."
"Good."
Jim went for the door, but Indi grabbed his wrist.
"You came," her eyes filled with tears.
Jim's eyes slowly changed to purple, and his expressions softened. "Of course I came, I… I love you."
She looked shocked, and a whole new wave of tears struck. "No one's ever told me that before, I love you too." They stared into eachother's eyes for a moment before she spoke again. "But I mean, Jim, I called you two hours ago. You were in Utah, that's like eight hours away.
"There's no way," he said as he pulled out his phone to check the time she called.
Sure enough, the call came two hours previous.
"I… I… I'm really fast," he practically giggled. He shook himself and snarled. "Graahhh, we're getting sidetracked." He scrolled through his phone and called Strickler. "He's back, Indi's dad got out and he's trying to kill her, get to mom's house ASAP!" Was all he said before he hung up.
He called Toby next.
"Bring Arg to my house, it's an emergency!"
"I'm serious Jim, you can't kill him," his mom stressed.
"Well I don't see any vegan options!" Jim yelled, frustrated with the situation, his eyes glowed red.
Strickler burst in the house, whacking Indi with the door.
"Ouch," she said unenthusiastically
"You're okay," he sighed, gratefully.
"Thanks to Jim," she said.
"Strickler," Barbara said, "Tell him he can't kill her father."
"Ah, I think it's a splendid idea!" His sclera glowed.
"WALTER?!"
"What?"
"Jim," Indi said. "You do what you think is best!"
And all of it was on his shoulders from that moment on.
REVIEWS BITCHES! I demand them.
