Brute and Butch handed their menus back to the waiter "I'm telling ya, the chicken and broccoli here is out of this world' Butch chuckled sitting back in his booth. "You know I pass this place a lot on my way to school, never thought I'd actually set foot here' She chuckled nervously "Sorry, I'm sure I sound like some kind of hermit' she said. Butch nodded "You're new here, it's only normal to weary to jump right into a new city'
Brute cocked her head questioningly "I never told you I was new here...' Butch took a drink of his soda "I asked around, I'm new here to but I can tell you this that word travels fast here'
Brute readjusted in his seat a little uneasy by Butch's last statement. "So you a fan of hockey? Pro level?' he asked. She cleared her throat "Y-yeah, I like the Bruins' She chirped.
"Ahh so You're from Boston?' he asked. "I lived there for a little bit' she said.
"Where else have you lived?' he asked leaning in.
"Baltimore, Philadelphia, Austin, Nova Scotia, Minnesota, Boston, Santa Fe...'
Butch nodded rather impressed "Moved around a bit huh' he chuckled.
"Yeah' she chuckled nervously. "Military?' he asked.
"Huh?'
"Your family, Did you move around a lot because they're in the military?' he asked.
She readjusted in her seat "Not really, it's for my parents work'
The waitress made it back to the table with their drinks "Just gonna drop these off real quick and your orders should be out in a bit so just hollar if ya need anything' the waitress smiled walking away.
Butch took a sip of his water "So what do they do, your parents' he asked.
Brute took a deep breath "They both work for an insurance agency'
Butch sat back "You know I'm not trying to make you uncomfortable with all these questions I'm just trying to get to know my new teammate'
Brute looked up not fully realizing she was giving off the impression she was uncomfortable "No it's fine just my minds preoccupied with something else I'm sorry..'
Butch chuckled "It's no problem, relax we're just two friends having some Thai food in a city we're both new to amirite?' he joked.
She gave half a smile as Butch rubbed his hands in anticipation as the food made it's way to them "I'm telling ya, this place is gonna knock you on your ass' he chuckled as prying apart his chopsticks.
Brute did the same as she poked around at her food thinking back to her conversation with Randal.
The idea alone was depressing, she hadn't talked to Adam in a few days and as much as she hated it she was starting to miss him.
"So you and Adam...Anything going on there?' Butch asked picking some beef off his plate.
"What the hell? Could he read minds' she thought unintentionally rolling her eyes at the remark.
"Adam's cool, kind of helped me out when I first got here' she left it at that.
Butch shrugged "Seemed like a nice guy, I just figured since you guys were always together that-' he was cut off by Brutes chopsticks hitting her plate "Seriously?! Doesn't anybody get it? Did he put you up to this or something?'
Butch put his hands up in order to calm her "Easy there, just making conversation...'
Brute sighed realizing she was over reacting "Hey Butch I'm sorry man it's just this past week has just been really hard on me and I didn't mean to blow up on you like that'
Butch chuckled "Forget about it, it's gotta be tough being a super powered teen at a new school' he said looking back at his plate picking up a few noodles.
Brute froze looking from her plate to Butch "What did you just say...?'
Butch looked up with a grin "Well no use in beating around the bush right' he said looking at her with a more serious demeanor.
"You and me have a lot more in common than you think, I mean your ability to catch a puck I slapped out of the air with out even so much as a bruise was the first give away and I mean the whole green theme I mean come on' he gestured between the two.
he leaned in holding his palm out towards her as a green light started to form as all she could do is marvel at it.
"You...' was all she could manage to say as he only chuckled back with a "Yup'
Brute lunged across the table grabbing Butch by the collar "Who are you!? Where did you come from!? she barked.
Butch put his hands up again showing he was no threat "Woah woah, Brute calm down. I figured you'd be happy to know you're not the only super in town'
"I don't want to be a super!' she huffed shoving him back in his seat as she realized green volts of electricity danced from her hands as it slowly faded.
she sighed "It's like they were dormant for so long and ever since they've started to surface things have only gotten worse for me...'
she held her arm thinking over the past few weeks "I just want to be normal...'
Butch rubbed the back of his neck a little uneasy "This really didn't go as planned'
He reached out "hey Brute I'm sorry I was just trying to make a connection, there's not a lot out there like us...just thought-'
She stopped him "Look, it's cool I mean you're in your own way were just trying to help...thanks'
He looked down at his plate "...I have to ask...who created you?' he asked not really looking up from his meal.
She looked at her reflection in her drink "...C...Created...?'
Not sure how to respond she excused herself to the wash room.
She locked the door behind her as she clutched at the sink. Created...
She looked up to give herself a shock as her eyes started to illuminate a neon green "no no no no noo!' she panicked as green energy emitted from her person
Covering her face as she tried to calm down "it's okay, it's okay. You got this girl, just take a second...' she took a deep breath managing to subside her energy as the glow started to fade.
a smile from ear to ear as she watched the glow start to fade as a proud chuckle escaped her.
She could only feel giddy as a few proud "Yes!' escaped her as she left with a new sense of confidence.
She came back to Butch looking up from his phone "I don't know, I don't remember a lot of my early life and as of recently my powers have only started to reveal themselves...I don't know just the idea of being created is...well it doesn't seem to unlikely' she said poking at her plate once more.
Butch sighed "I know, sorry for dropping all this on you I had panned this going a completely different direction'
Brute rolled her eyes "What? You'd think we come together and start some sort of super team' she chuckled to look up to see a more stern looking coming from her green eyed counter part.
Butch sighed "You remember that ...thing that appeared in the air one day...well I don't think it's the last we've seen of it. If it comes back, this towns gonna need a new line of defense. I think that's us'
Brute only chuckled looking about in disbelief before a tremor shook the whole restaurant bringing them to lock eyes "Butch...you felt that'
Butch looked at the window in the front of the restaurant as the whole city block shook "I think we all did...'he jumped from his seat b lining for the door "Wait Butch!' Brute said keeping after him.
Brute walked out joining Butch as they both stared in awe at the portal before them, it towered over several stories tall illuminating a blue glow.
After a moment a metallic tentacle emerged from the portal as it latched onto a surrounding building. Shortly after a second one latched out taking out one of the patrol cars on the curbside. Three more shot out followed by the large mass that made up its body.
The portal closed behind it as eerie silence filled the now crowded street.
A light came from the center of the object as it seemed to scan the crowd.
Butch finally let the moment settle in as his arm shot out letting out a green volt at a city transformer overhead causing a mass explosion.
"Come on! Why you standing around! Get out of here!' he shouted causing the civilians to turn and run away from the green eyed vigilante .
The creature that stood over started to scan the crowd before turning its light towards Butch who waved it over until Brute held his arm back.
"Ahh what are you doing!?' Butch asked trying to pull his arm from her grasp "Look man we can't stay here it's to dangerous!' she pleaded to some resistance.
"Look if we turn and run now, people are going to get hurt or even worse! I can take this thing or at least hold it off!' He looked over his shoulder as he tackled Brute behind a truck as a beam of light shot passed the two charring everything in its path.
"See that could have been you, you idiot! We have to go!' she shouted "I can't!' he hollered
With a deep breath he looked over to see the thing scanning the area "The last time I fought these things, it ran into me and my brothers. We managed to take a few of them when ever they spawned but we finally got overwhelmed and those things took my brothers back through the portal with them'
Brute was at a loss of words as she felt her grip loosen as Butch pulled away "Get out of here...' was all he said as he walked out into plain sight
"Hey! Big Tall and ugly! I'm right here! Let's keep this going shall we!' he shouted a the metal tentacle shot out at Butch as he only dodged it with ease.
"Ohh hoho so close but you're only off by a hair' he chuckled as a second tentacle shot out to miss him again embedding itself in a concrete wall.
Butch sat on a lamp post not far from it with a smug grin "I'm dying of old age here...come on when are you gonna give me an actual...' Butch looked over his shoulder as a tentacle retracted back ready to strike, Fuck...
A green explosion erupted over Butch's head as it deflected the tentacle.
Butch scanned the streets as he saw Brute holding her arm in his direction as it emitted a green glow.
He smirked jumping down to street level "Thanks' she sighed "Did you really expect me to just leave you here'
Butch shrugged looking back "Maybe I knew you'd stick around' he looked back at the thing as it appeared to scan Brute "Word of advice, avoid the arms and go for the body. If we can knock it over we'll have an edge..' As they looked back the thing started to shake as three more tentacles sprouted from it's core.
Butch looked back "Didn't account for that, didn't know it could do that...new plan just don't get hit!' he said running along the street as the metallic arms seemed to slam just feet behind him.
Brute dived out of the way as another beam shot passed her. She looked over a turned over car looking at Butch hop from lamp post to building striking at the core of the creature sending it back. his arms were covered in his energy creating gauntlets. he looked back at Brute "Focus your energy to give you a little extra pack in your punch' he looked back at the downed creature punching his gauntlets together.
Brute took a deep breath "Okay...focus...focus...focus your power Brute, focus...' she closer her eyes as her energy seemed to form at her legs.
She smirked bending at the knee as the energy began to charge "Focus...focus' she mouthed to herself launching from her position passed Butch.
He smirked "Well that didn't take long'
After a second Brute reached her target giving a devastating kick sending it into a parking garage as it crumbled on top of the creature.
Brute turned dusting her hands proudly "You know I might have a knack for this sort of thing'
Butch only nodded with a smirk "Yeah well I softened him up for ya...Brute look out!'
Brute looked down to see the tentacle wrapped at her leg "ahh shit..' was all she could get out before the giant arm slung up sending her skyward "Fucccccccccckkk'
Butch looked up shielding his eyes from the sun no longer able to see how high Brute was sent "Damn, how high did she go?'
The creature began to pull itself from the rubble "Fuck, can't worry about that now' he charged his gauntlets a bit more "Come on!' he waved the thing over charging forward.
Brute sat up as her head started to swim "oww what happ...' she froze when she spotted a satellite float by.
She covered her mouth not being able to breath as she sat up on the damaged satellite she crashed into spotting earth before her.
She bent at the knees as she focused her energy again "Focus...'
After a moment she burst from the satellite hurdling for earth.
Butch managed to land on top of the beast gripping at one of the tentacles and ripping it from its sleeve "Fuck yeah' he chuckled jumping away ad the limb shook on the floor as he tossed it.
"Haha what now huh!' he gloated before another limb grew in its place "I should have saw that coming..' he groaned.
A sonic boom erupted from above buckling Butch as he looked up "Well you certainly know how to make an entrance...' he smirked.
Brute shot down breaking the sound barrier as she whispered to herself "Focus...focus' Her arm started to glow as a object formed in her hand from the glow.
"and...got it!' The object took the form of a bass guitar as she wielded the bass over shoulder "Drop the Bass!'
She swung giving off a loud "Kerangggg!' breaking right through the beast leaving a gaping hole in its core.
After a second the tentacles holding it up collapsed on itself and it rolled over ceasing movement.
The dust settled as Brute held her glowing bass skyward "Thank you Townsville...goodnight' the glowing instrument vanished from her hands as she collapsed passed out on the rubble.
Butch walked through the debris looking for Brute "Brute...hey Brute you alive down here'
That's where he saw a figure holding Brute up in it's arms looking over at Butch "The hell..."
Before he could react the figure held its hand out flashing a bright light blinding Butch temporarily.
By time Butch looked the thing was gone as was Brute.
Elsewhere
The masked figure flown down laying Brute in a field as it tapped at its mask making it retract to reveal Adam with a concerned look "Come on B come back to us now' he tapped at her face as she slowly came to. Adam smirked tapping at helmet concealing his face and stepping away.
Brute sat up her vision becoming clear "What?Where? Butch?' she spotted the figure before her "You...did you save me...?'
Adam looked back before taking flight disappearing into the clouds.
"Wait! Hold up' she said flying after and following the break in the clouds to keep on his trail.
Adam tapped at his ear piece "Ramona, She's fine. A little banged up but seems fine-'
He was caught off by a message "Incoming object'
Adam looked over his shoulder to see Brute not far behind "Ahh shit' he shot upwards as did Brute spotting his break "Hey hold on! Why'd you save me! Come back!' she shouted slowly gaining on his tail.
Adam tapped at his ear piece "Shit Shit Shit! What do I do?'
"Shake her!'
Adam shot through the city sky line towards the country side, he wasn't sure what was Brute's limit when it came to her powers but he was about to test it.
Breaking through the clouds once more he looked over his shoulder Brute was nowhere to be seen. With a confident chuckle he looked back in front on him to see a break in the clouds where Brute broke through looking back at Adam rather unimpressed. "You can't expect to escape me at that speed?' she chuckled flying closer and reaching for his helmet. Adam smacked her hand away touching a button on his helmet for a voice changer "Why don't I put it first gear then?' he let go kicking his boots out thrusting him faster and well passed Brute. She was slowed down by the burst of speed "Shit! You won't get off that easy!' she yelled a bit excited. She shot back to the ground bracing her self ready to shoot back up "Come on! Come on! Focus!' she said as her energy flowed down to her legs "Yes!' she looked back up spotting a shadow in the clouds "Gotcha!' she shot up leaving a green thunderbolt in her way and shoulder checking Adam causing him to spin out "Fuck Fuck Fuck' Adam cursed trying to stop his spin out before he crashed into a mountain side. The dust settled as Adam stared pulling himself from the hole he created before Brute floated down before him in a relaxed position only leaning on her arm and legs up "Sorry about that, new to flying. Didn't mean to knock ya off course like that' she reached out again before Adam spoke again with his disguised voice "Wait! It's...it's best you don't..' he pleaded still trying to remove his arm from the mountain. Brute paused pulling her hand back "Why's that?' she asked as Adam pulled his arm free "I'm a hero just like you, but it's best my identity was kept secret' he stated as Brute reached out again as Adam let go of the voice changer letting out a "Please...'
Brute hesitated after that as Adam used his free hand shooting a flare into Brute's face "Ahhh! You fucking Asshole!' she shouted rubbing at her eyes.
Adam broke out and shot skyward vanishing through the clouds, Brute after a minute was able to look about to realize He had escaped.
She smirked to her self "Til next time I guess'
