Chapter 68- The Kids

Runeterra, Aea, Port of Leglen

"Why the hell is it so quiet?"

Sara, Madeline, Yamato, Lorina and Billy carefully watched the port town of the country Leglen from atop a nearby hill.

"I don't know," Madeline admitted. "The pirates around here are usually crowding the area."

"Must be a big shipment." Billy said.

"I'm sure L over here would know all about it." Madeline muttered.

Lorina glared at her. "I may be a criminal, but I don't deal in kids. I have honor."

"Oh for God's sake!" Sara groaned. "Why don't you two just kiss and get on with it?"

The two groaned and shook their heads.

"I see movement." Yamato interrupted, pointing towards the town where a group of people were walking out of a small wooden house.

"What's going on?" Lorina asked.

"I don't know, but they're pointing to the coast, so that could mean the shipment is coming in." Billy said.

"It's too early. They won't come in for at least another hour." Madeline shook her head.

"What do we do then?" Sara wondered.

"We should probably blend in," Lorina suggested. "They'll be expecting an attack from the hills."

"She's right," Billy agreed. "But perhaps, we can infiltrate and wait."

"That seems like the best option." Yamato nodded.

"Let's do it then." Sara said.

The five walked into town, walking along the dirt street. People looked at them suspiciously, but all five ignored them.

"This place seems kinda sus." Sara commented.

"Sus?" Billy frowned, having never heard the word before.

"In my world, it's a shortened version of the word suspicious." Sara explained.

"Oh!"

"What are you outsiders doing here?" someone called out.

"None of yer fuckin' business." Madeline replied.

"There's a tavern." Lorina noted.

"Please tell me you're not planning on getting drunk." Sara gave her a look.

Lorina rolled her eyes. "Not now. We have a job to do."

"Good."

The five walked into the tavern, seeing it packed. The group slid into a bench by the window, so they could watch the bay.

"Hello. Are you here to see the great pirate from another world?" a petite waitress asked.

"Pirate from another world?" Sara frowned. What was she talking about?

"There's a man who we're fans of out there sailing around the world," she explained. "He's a pirate, always wasted, and the captain of the Dead World. His vocabulary is extraordinary, and he's slain great sea beasts."

The five exchanged looks. Whatever world was out there was obviously colliding with Runeterra. And that was not good.

"Hi, sweetheart," Yamato began. "Is there a shipment coming in?"

"Yes there is, but don't say that aloud. I heard kids are being brought in. Or more accurately, the prize is a young red-haired girl, about 12 years of age." The waitress said, leaning in closely and whispering.

"Why just one?" Lorina asked.

"I heard she is a powerful mage. But that's it. I don't know more." She replied.

"All right, that's good. Thank you." Sara smiled. The waitress nodded and quickly moved away.

"A powerful mage? That doesn't sound too good." Sara admitted.

"Mages fetch a high price in the slaver markets," Billy admitted. "When Oberlin overthrew the previous king of Draton Dynasty, he abolished slavery in the empire."

"Yeah, he was a former slave, born in the underground pits beneath the city." Madeline added, wincing.

"Damn." Sara muttered.

"Yeah. All of us are all grown up now…and still need help somehow." Lorina sighed sadly.

Sara looked at them. Everyone was broken in some way, though Lorina was better at hiding it. Yamato was the only one who didn't look broken in some way.

"Okay, we've been waiting for like two hours, no one's shown up," Billy said. "Think Oberlin sent us all the way here for nothing?"

"I know him, and he wouldn't do that." Madeline shook his head.

"I have no idea." Sara shrugged.

Lorina looked out the window, her eyes scanning the area. Something was amiss, she could tell that much.

Sara drank from her mug of ale, wiping some foam off her mouth. The tavern was even more packed than before, people shouting and cheering.

"Hey guys, I think we might have a problem." Yamato said.

"What do you mean?" Sara asked. He merely pointed out the window. Sara's eyes widened.

Dozens of armed men stood by the dock, scattered and pacing up and down, as if they were waiting for something.

"Armed guard waiting for the cargo to arrive." Lorina said in recognition.

"Which means when they come, we'll have no choice but to fight not only the pirates but also the guard." Billy finished.

"Fantastic." Sara said sarcastically.

"Eh, we can take 'em." Madeline shrugged, fiddling with her pistol beneath the table, putting bullets in.

"I hope so." Lorina muttered.

"I think I see a grey ship coming in." Sara narrowed her eyes.

"We better get ready then." Yamato nodded.

A few minutes later, a massive wooden ship came to dock. It blotted out the sunlight and a red flag blew in the wind.

"Come on, ya lazy curs! We don't have all bloody day!" a mercenary, a huge bearded man shouted.

As he walked forward, a knife came flying out of nowhere and hit another mercenary in the back.

He let out a gasp and toppled forward, dead.

Everyone else turned as Billy Rockwell emerged from a dark alley, spinning and hurling knives. Two more thugs went down.

Sara Lance came charging out of another alley. Drawing her sword, she sliced down one thug before spinning and slicing the throat of another in a rotary motion.

The door of the tavern burst open and Madeline Frey exited, her rifle in hand. Aiming it, she let loose, several rounds taking down a few thugs.

"Get that cargo outta here!" the bearded man roared.

Lorina Craven and Yamato jumped from a rooftop together and landed.

"Time to throw a tantrum!" Lorina smirked.

She kicked one thug in the chest while Yamato fought a few more. As one grabbed him, Lorina spin kicked and sent him down.

Madeline fired from a corner, killing a few more thugs. The gangplank came down and a dozen pirates emerged, holding swords and flintlock pistols.

"I'm not scared of the pistols." Sara muttered, but Madeline heard her.

"Excuse me?" she narrowed her eyes.

"They've got fucking flintlock pistols! If they shoot at me, they're gonna hit the fucking bystanders instead, and then have forty seven minutes to reload, what, you think I'm just gonna stand here and look around?!"

Madeline groaned and rolled her eyes.

Yamato's eyes glowed as his sword became flaming. He spun, decapitating a thug and charging straight at the pirates.

Lorina punched anyone that came at her. Billy charged, rolling and stabbing a pirate in the abdomen.

Spinning, he brandished another knife and stabbed another in the side of the head, killing him instantly.

Sara deflected a sword strike and rolled to the inside, cutting his head off. Madeline drew her pistol and fired, killing another pirate point blank.

A few charged at her but Yamato punched the ground, producing a shockwave of energy that took several down.

"Neat trick." Sara chuckled.

Lorina decked a thug and smirked, cracking her fingers.

"Punk." She muttered.

Billy sliced another down as he made his way onto the ship. A pirate tried to attack him but Billy punched him and grabbing him, threw him off the ship.

Billy jumped down as Madeline shot two more.

KABOOM!

A huge chunk of the ship was blown apart. Everyone turned as someone small walked out of the hole.

It was a young girl with a mop of red hair. She wore a simple green tunic and her eyes were glowing golden.

"Dumbasses." She muttered.

Madeline lowered her rifle. The girl looked familiar…somehow, but she couldn't tell how or why.

Two pirates charged but the girl unleashed a powerful stream of golden colored energy from her eyes that sent them flying back and crashing into the tavern, destroying the building.

"I hope no one was in there." Lorina quipped.

Sara stared at the girl with a dropped jaw. She fired beams from her eyes just like how Superman fired Heat Vision.

"Those fuckers are so annoying." She rolled her eyes.

"Who are you?" Yamato asked as he, Billy, Sara, Lorina and Madeline faced her in a half-circle.

"Name's Enya. Enya Frey." She replied nonchalantly.

Madeline dropped her rifle in shock, her eyes widening and her jaw dropping.

"Frey?" Billy asked with narrowed eyes, looking between the two.

"…Enya?" Madeline asked hesitantly.

Enya looked over at her with a raised eyebrow and said. "Yeah, Maddie, it's me, ya little sister. Whatever."

'She's like a moody teenager.' Sara thought to herself.

"I didn't know you had a sister." Billy said to Madeline.

"I thought she died when the Aean War started. She was two years old at the time." Madeline replied.

"Oh, so you just decided it was a good time to abandon me, eh?" Enya snapped.

"Look, if you were dead, how was she able to find you?" Lorina pointed out.

Enya gave her the stink eye. "Oh good, now the kleptomaniac is giving me life advice."

Lorina frowned and took a slight step back.

"So the word kleptomaniac exists on Runeterra too. Good to know." Sara mused.

"Zip it blondie. I had this whole thing under control." Enya said to her.

"Oh yeah, that's what it looked like." Sara rolled her eyes.

"Enya, maybe you should just calm down." Yamato said carefully.

"Monk, if I want enlightenment, I'd go to the tavern and get drunk. But until then, I didn't ask, so shut it."

"We just saved your life, why are you being a bitch?" Billy asked.

"I don't know, you tell me? I was supposed to get here, so I let myself be captured, so I could go to the slaver markets and take out the underground Demons as part of a favour to Rosalind." Enya replied.

"Rosalind? The Angel?" Sara asked.

"Yep, she asked me for help and increased my power."

"I had no idea you were a mage." Madeline said.

"Well, my powers only manifested when I was five years of age." Enya replied, looking at her older sister.

"Look, King Oberlin of Draton Dynasty asked us to come free the kids on the ship." Lorina said.

"No kids, just me." Enya said.

"Oh! Terrific." Sara muttered.

"Anyway, now I need to go tell Rosalind the mission went awry." Enya replied, giving everyone a mock-salute.

"We also need to speak to Rosalind." Yamato said.

"Really? Why? So she can give you little blessings?"

"No, to help us stop the Shadow King." Yamato replied.

Enya noticed Sara rubbing her knee in pain and asked her. "What's wrong?"

"My knee hurts whenever I wake up in the morning." Sara replied.

"So just wake up in the afternoon. Duh." Enya rolled her eyes.

Sara groaned. "Fucking smartass."

"Anyway, I'm off. See ya some other time. Maddie, I'd recommend you stop drinking and smoking so much. Not good for your lungs or liver." Enya replied, mock-saluting everyone and walking off.

"Ayo, what the fuck was that?" Sara asked.

Madeline stared at her sister in longing.

"M," Lorina said gently. "GO talk to your sister. I know you want to."

Madeline slowly nodded.

"So we need to find Rosalind?" Sara asked.

"We do," Yamato said. "She is on of the oldest and wisest Angels. She will know what to do."

"All right," Sara cracked a smile. "Let's go find an Angel."

And done.

So a new character is here, Enya Frey, who is Madeline's younger sister, and a powerful mage.

For casting, picture her being played by Lia McHugh.

Hope the interactions and fight scenes were enjoyed, and now there is another fantasy world that is starting to collide with Runeterra.

More will be revealed next chapter. So now the 13 will seek out Rosalind. And don't worry; Enya will appear again, as will Oberlin and Goragan.

Next chapter will involve some important conversations.

Hope everyone enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter. If you live in Ukraine, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
