This chapter will introduce a new champion, and advance the plot as we finally return to the rest of Runeterra.
Also, timeline wise, this takes place about four months after the previous chapter, and the year is the beginning of 991 AN.
Chapter 72- An old friend
Runeterra, Mudtown
"Damn, it's cold."
Sara shivered as she wrapped the dark cloak around her. It had been a month since she had parted ways with Jax and the Aean's, and she was on her way to Demacia. But first, she ha stopped at a place called Mudtown.
Sara sat on a rock, wrapping the cloak around her. The dark clouds hung heavy in the sky, looking ready to burst at any moment.
An unearthly wind ripped through the town, sounding like howling wolves.
She needed to get a boat and make her way back up to Demacia, which would take at least another five months.
"Sara?"
Her eyes widened at the familiar voice. Sara turned around, seeing a handsome dark-skinned man in a grey uniform standing there.
"Lucian?!" Sara couldn't believe her eyes.
He looked much older than when Sara first met him, mere days after she had ended up on Runeterra. Gods, that felt like a lifetime ago.
He walked forward and held out his hand. Instead of shaking it, Sara wrapped Lucian in a hug.
"I haven't seen you in years. You're all grown up. How are you?" Sara commented.
Lucian looked at her and Sara could see the pain in his eyes. Obviously, something terrible had happened to him.
"I'm…I'm trying to do better." He admitted.
"What happened? I heard your father died." Sara said.
"You did?" Lucian frowned.
"Taric told me."
"You met Taric again?"
"We crossed paths in Shurima. He was on his way to Mount Targon." Sara explained.
"Is he all right?" Lucian asked, concerned.
"He's fine," Sara assured. "He ascended the mountain and became the Aspect of the Protector. We parted ways about two years ago."
"He survived the climb?" Lucian asked, astonished. No one had successfully scaled the mountain before.
"Damn right he did. Then we parted ways. I am on my way up to Demacia." Sara said. She left out the part about Aea and the other lands beyond the sea. Lucian would be even more shocked than he already was.
"How've you been?" Sara then asked.
"Pretty good. I met someone." Lucian began.
"Lucian? Where did you go?" a female voice asked. Sara turned to see a stunningly attractive dark-skinned woman standing there, wearing the same grey outfit as Lucian.
"Oh, hey Senna. Just ran into an old friend of mine, Sara Lance." Lucian smiled.
Senna's eyes widened as she looked at Sara. "You're Sara Lance? Lucian mentioned you a few times."
"I hope he said good things," Sara smirked, holding out her hand. "You're Senna?"
"Senna Abaru. A Sentinel of Light." Senna added.
"What's that?" Sara asked in confusion.
"You know of the undead on the Shadow Isles?" Lucian asked and she nodded. "The Sentinels of Light were created to oppose the rising darkness, using weapons forged from relic-stone found on the Blessed Isles."
"Blessed Isles?"
"The Shadow Isles before they became swamped in death and darkness." Senna threw in.
"Oh, wonderful." Sara muttered. Once again, Runeterra continued to surprise her in more ways than one.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed something. A wave of black and green mist rising in the distance.
"What's that?" she pointed to it.
Senna paled drastically. "The Black Mist."
"That's from the Shadow Isles, right?" Sara asked, alarmed.
"Yes." Lucian said grimly.
"We were planning on going to the Isles to find an ancient relic there." Senna said.
"Now?" Sara asked incredulously.
"Not now, tomorrow." Lucian said calmly.
Sara looked down, in thought. She looked back up. "You guys want some help?"
Both Sentinels stared at her in shock.
"Are you sure?" Senna asked hesitantly. "This is a very dangerous mission."
"Eh, over these six years since I've been on Runeterra, I've gotten into a lot of crazy shit." Sara shrugged.
'Six years?' Senna mouthed in confusion.
"I'll explain later." Sara waved her off.
Later
The three sat in a tavern, chatting away.
"Xin Zhao told me a bit about how you're not from this world." Lucian said to Sara.
"Yeah, I'm not from Runeterra. I'm from a place called Earth, born in a city called Starling City." Sara explained.
Senna stared at her in shock. "And I thought I'd seen everything."
"So did I." Sara chuckled, sharing a look with her.
"Anyone special in your life?" Lucian asked.
"Yeah, a Shuriman woman. Sivir." Sara said fondly, her heart aching for her girlfriend.
"Shuriman? Well don't you like to go exotic?" Senna chuckled.
"I try." Sara smirked.
"I heard you fought in the Ionia-Noxus War." Lucian commented.
"Yeah, that was…something." Sara said, wincing in memory, especially of the dead Yone.
"So I have heard." Senna agreed.
"Sorry to hear about your father." Sara said to Lucian.
His eyes held healed but remembered pain and he sighed. "Thank you, Sara."
"Where were you travelling to?" Senna asked.
"Demacia. Haven't been there in six years." Sara replied.
"Demacia?" Lucian frowned.
"Xin Zhao, Jarvan and the others all think I'm dead," Sara said sombrely. "I owe it to them to at least tell them I'm alive."
"Fair enough." Lucian allowed.
"And after Demacia?" Senna asked, taking a swig from her mug of ale.
"After that…I don't know," Sara shrugged. "I've learnt not to make any long term plans; they usually go to shit. At this point, I'm just taking things one step at a time."
"It's all any of us can do in this world." Senna agreed.
"What's your story?" Sara asked curiously.
Senna tensed up and so did Lucian. Sara looked between the two of them and she could sense there was some kind of big story.
'Should we?' Senna mouthed to Lucian.
"I trust her."
Senna turned to Sara. "Since I was a young kid, the Black Mist has always persued me. Wherever I went, the Mist followed."
"Why?" Sara frowned. Why would the Mist chase only one person?
"I don't know," Senna admitted. "That's why Lucian and I were going to the Shadow Isles. There may be a relic that can tell us the truth."
"Huh, that's why." Sara realized.
"Yeah." Lucian said quietly.
"I'll help then. I always try to help anyone I meet." Sara gave a small smile, looking out at Mudtown.
"I always fear that eventually…I'll be the only one left to fight." Sara admitted.
Senna clapped her on the shoulder. "Hopefully that day never comes to pass."
Sara grinned. "I hope not. And I'll make sure it won't. It's now or never. And nothing lasts forever. I'll keep on going till the stars start to fade to light. And even on our darkest night, the world keeps spinning."
"Damn right." Lucian agreed.
"It's like the warriors on this world were all raised by the wolves. And they'd better see the full moon." Sara smirked.
Lucian and Senna chuckled in agreement.
"Tomorrow, we make for the Shadow Isles." Senna said.
"Let's do it." Sara said with determination.
And done. I know, a little short, but hopefully the next few chapters make up for it.
So a new canon champion is here and it's Senna aka The Redeemer. Her and Lucian are definitely the best couple in League of Legends and one of the best couples ever.
Senna's lore is definitely great, highly recommend it. I will be doing my own storylines while mixing in canon events and storylines that I really enjoyed, like Arcane or the Bilgewater stories.
So next chapter will introduce the next region on Runeterra and the first champion of that region.
Hope everyone enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
