As CJ walked back outside of his apartment after a few hours, he wondered what was the deal with Berkley. The guy seemed to take his frustration on losing the science fair to Zero in the past very personal. Not even the gangbangers in his hood were that vindictive.
I think I just need to give Z some time to work this out, CJ thought. I already got other shit to deal with.
So CJ decided to take a seat on the bench outside and thought for a moment. He pictured Sweet sitting in a prison cell wondering how he would get out. He pictured Smoke counting his stack of cash and munching on his large order of food. Sweet's imprisonment and Smoke's betrayal was all that was in his mind at the moment, and there was no telling what C.R.A.S.H. was up to this time.
CJ decided to get it out of his mind and remind himself of the positive things that had been happening to him during the moment. He pictured Cesar and Kendl relaxing on the couch in their own apartment building, knowing Cesar would treat CJ's sister well. He pictured Ryder killing many of Smoke's lieutenants and his friend LB helping, knowing that Ryder was the only friend at the moment that CJ had.
After a moment, CJ decided to walk to the gym and do so more exercises. As he entered the gym, he spent his time on the bench press and curling weights. He also did a few push-ups and sit-ups. After thirty minutes of working out, CJ decided it was enough and decided to drink some water from the fountain. He stepped out of the gym and walked down the street.
He then decided to go see Katie and read the address on the white slip she handed to him earlier. As he read the slip, he then drove through the streets and made his way to Juniper Hollow just southeast of the Gant Bridge, where Katie's house was. CJ pulled up on the front and blared the horn, which prompted Katie to exit her home.
"Hi, Carl," Katie greeted as she entered the passenger's seat of the vehicle.
"Hey, pretty lady," CJ greeted back as he backed up onto the road.
"Let's go out to eat," Katie suggested. "There's one just down the corner from here."
As CJ drove through the streets, he turned on the radio, which played the same hip hop beat that played in OG Loc's party just weeks ago, and of course, OG Loc's terrible rapping was heard.
"My name's Locs baby/I ain't broke baby/I will never, ever, choke baby/Never sniffed coke baby/Don't poke baby..."
Katie groaned as she instantly turned the radio off.
"OG Loc?" she asked. "OG Joke is more like it!"
"No kidding," CJ agreed as he finally made it to the diner just below. "I can't believe such a busta like Loc could get a record deal."
"I also heard that he has a manager running things for him," Katie added as CJ parked in front of the building. "Some guy named Melvin."
"Melvin?!" CJ asked. "You mean Big Smoke?!"
"Uh, yeah, that's what he calls himself," Katie answered. "You know him?"
CJ then thought about his closest friend's betrayal and pictured the fat man working for C.R.A.S.H. back under the freeway of Verdant Bluffs. He just couldn't bring himself to tell his possible girlfriend his history with Smoke. "I thought I did," CJ muttered. "Now I'm not sure. Can we just go in already?"
"Uh, sure," Katie said as she and CJ hopped out of the car. "My favorite rapper is Madd Dogg."
"Cool," CJ said. "Madd Dogg's one of the sickest rappers out right now."
"Yeah, he is," Katie replied. "So much better than OG Joke."
CJ ran to the door and held it open for Katie to walk in. Afterwards, the two sat at a table and enjoyed their meal, having a casual conversation.
"So what you do, girl?" CJ asked.
"I work as a nurse at the San Fierro Medical Center," Katie told him. "I like to stay healthy and clean. That's why I bathe everyday and work out regularly."
"That's so nice to hear," CJ told her. "I like my women healthy, strong, and clean. That's why I don't do or sell drugs. That shit mess with my mind."
"I love a man that's clean," Katie said. "So where are you from, CJ?"
"I'm from Grove Street," CJ answered. "I'm part of the gang that like to keep things clean in the hood."
"That's nice," Katie replied. "I hardly know any other gangs that don't want to get involved with drugs. Glad to know you're drug free."
"F'sho', girl," CJ answered.
"So I was hoping someday, we could attend the demolition derby over at the Corvin Stadium," Katie told CJ.
"Demolition Derby?" CJ asked.
"Yeah," Katie told him. "I love to wreck cars at the stadium. I always had an affinity for wrecking cars!"
Man, this girl is something else, CJ thought. She might be the one.
After thirty minutes of dining, CJ and Katie returned to the vehicle outside.
"Hey Carl," Katie told CJ. "You should go for a ride around the city. I like a nice drive."
"Sure thing," CJ replied as he started the vehicle's engine.
He backed into the road and started driving. "Drive faster, CJ!" Katie cheered.
CJ chuckled. "Okay," he said.
So CJ picked up the speed and drove slightly faster.
"Faster, CJ!" Katie cheered once again. "FASTER!"
This girl's energetic! CJ thought.
He picked up the speed and drove as fast as he could. But Katie still wasn't satisfied as CJ made his way through Esplanade North.
"Come on, CJ!" Katie shouted. "FASTER! FASTER!"
CJ was beginning to feel nervous as Katie was demanding him to go faster than he expected. He drove as fast as he could, barely avoiding the cars around the road. He was trying to avoid crashing into anything.
"Come on, CJ!" Katie shouted. "You have to crash into something!"
"You crazy?!" CJ shouted back. "We could get ourselves killed!"
"Exactly, CJ!" Katie shouted as CJ sped through Downtown. "That's what I like in men! The kind who would risk their lives for me!"
"What the hell are you saying?!" CJ shouted.
"I'm turned on by death!" Katie yelled as CJ continued driving straight and was later losing control of the wheel. "I want us to collide in death together! That way, we could leave this world together! Death is cool! I want to die so bad! I really want me and my new man to die together!"
CJ was now appalled. He had thought that maybe Katie would be his smart choice since she was very health conscious and liked men who were healthy and athletic. But to learn that she has an eccentric sexual desire for men's death and wanted to die along with the man in a fiery car crash was too much for him, especially since the last two girls that CJ went out with took pleasure into murdering their past boyfriends.
CJ decided to drive as fast as he could through the city and made it through Doherty, crashing into multiple cars in the process.
"You're the worst driver ever!" Katie shouted gleefully. "I LOVE IT!"
As soon as CJ finally made it to the end of the street, he sped as fast as he could, quickly jumped out of the vehicle, and watched it ride away distantly as it crashed through the other cars ahead.
"Carl, wait!" Katie shouted distantly. "You can't leave me!
CJ just watched as the car up ahead started spinning out of control. It seemed that Katie couldn't take control of the vehicle as it continued driving out of control. CJ just sighed.
Man that's three straight girls gone obsessed with death! he thought. I better just go see what Zee up to.
So without turning back, CJ turned away and ran as fast as he could, hoping that Katie wasn't chasing him in the vehicle.
It was beautiful outside. The wind blew smoothly through the cool air. The sun shone beautiful orange-and-red colors through the sky. It was the end of summer, and already, it was looking as if the first day of fall had came. CJ continued walking until he headed to Zero's shop and stepped in.
"What's happening, Zero?" CJ greeted as Zero stepped out of the backroom.
"I'm off to engage with destiny, good or bad," Zero answered.
"What the hell are you talking about now?" CJ asked.
"The hour of judgement is upon me and I must ask myself if I am a sheep or a goat," Zero replied. He grabbed CJ by the shoulders. "Carl, will you be my second?" he asked.
He then placed some cards on CJ's palms. "Here are some letters," Zero said. "I have left everything to you in case I don't make it. Please."
CJ just stared at the letters in bewilderment. "I already own it," he said. "What's wrong with you, man?"
"We are crossing the Rubicon," Zero answered in a heroic tone of voice. "I am to engage in battle with Berkley. At stake, honor and our very lives."
Zero stared at a sailboat sitting on one of the glass tanks. "It's funny..." he started, "I've never noticed before how beautiful this time of year can be... I may never again see Rome in the springtime. A butterfly..." Zero turned back and started whimpering dramatically.
"C'mon with all the talking, man - is you going to battle Berkley or what?" CJ asked impatiently.
"It's a fight to the death!" Zero shouted. "Come hither!"
Zero guided CJ to the backroom to show him a creation of the miniature battlefield on the table, complete with bases.
"Behold, No Man's Land!" Zero announced.
"Man, y'all take this shit seriously," CJ muttered.
"Berkley's HQ is across No Man's Land!" Zero told him. "I'll drive the Bandit, you fly the Goblin and help any way you can! If I get the Bandit into Berkley's base, he must leave San Fierro for good! LET BATTLE COMMENCE!"
CJ didn't say another word and decided to just control the Goblin plane, complete with a magnet, as Zero drove the Bandit car through the track. Just then, Zero's Bandit came to a stop. It was blocked by a barrel on the path.
"Carl, don't be an idiot!" Zero announced. "Use that Goblin to remove that barrel!"
So CJ controlled the Goblin and used the magnet to pick up the barrel and drop it to the side of the path. As CJ controlled the Goblin, he noticed the tanks up ahead.
Those must be the tanks Berkley's army use to destroy the Bandit, CJ thought.
So instead of worrying about the blocked path, CJ went back to the starting point and grabbed a bomb with the magnet. He flew the Goblin over the course and dropped the bomb on the tanks. As he saw more tanks up ahead, CJ used the Goblin to fly back to the starting point and grabbed another bomb with the magnet. The Goblin flew through the course and to the end of the track, where CJ dropped the other bomb on the other tanks, which exploded promptly.
"Carl, I'm blocked!" Zero called as the Bandit approached another barrel that was blocking its path.
So CJ used the Goblin to pick up the barrel and moved it to its side, giving the Bandit access to continue driving on the tracks. CJ was about to grab another bomb to destroy another set of tanks up ahead when he noticed the Bandit approaching a river gap between the two paths.
"Get a plank from our base and make a bridge across that gap!" Zero announced.
But CJ was too determined to make sure that the Bandit wasn't destroyed by the upcoming tanks. So he instead grabbed another bomb and flew the Goblin across the tracks to search for the tanks, which were seen halfway through the tracks. He hovered the Goblin over the tank and dropped the bomb onto it, causing it to explode.
"Carl, I need a bridge, now!" Zero announced.
So CJ returned to the starting point and used the magnet to grab one of the planks. He flew the Goblin over the course and dropped the plank between the river gap, giving the Bandit more access to continue accelerating through the track. CJ used the Goblin to return to the starting point and grab another plank since he felt that there would be another river gap in the course.
"There's another cursed barrel in the way!" CJ heard Zero call out.
So CJ used the Goblin to fly over the track to find two more barrels blocking the path. He used the magnet to pick up the two barrels each and move them to the side, giving the Bandit access through the track. As CJ flew the Goblin over the tracks, he found that it was all clear, and the Bandit would make it to the end of the track in one piece. He watched as the Bandit continued accelerating through the track and finally make its way to the end.
"Ha ha!" Zero chuckled in triumph. "HA! Berkley, you sir, are a loser! Leave the field of battle in shame, pack up your crummy mail order business, and GET OUT OF MY TOWN! Carl, you are all a duelist like me could want in a second. Sir, I salute you!"
"Well thanks for the props, Zee man," CJ replied. "I guess that fool Berkley ain't gonna be able to set foot in this city now. I'ma go back to the garage and check out the inventory there."
CJ let out a relieved sigh as he walked out of the shop. It was fun working for Zero, even though a lot of his tasks were rather far-fetched to him. CJ was just glad he was able to help out his fellow allies and got his first property in San Fierro. He stared at his watch. It was now 7:30 PM. So CJ decided to head over to the garage to see how much work has processed so far.
