As CJ made his way down the mountain, he decided to get something to eat. All that sneaking around in the military base had made him hungry. So he drove to Cluckin' Bell and walked inside the restaurant. As he made his order and enjoyed his food at the table, he thought about his latest mission. Why did Truth wanted him to steal a jetpack from Area 69? And what did he want him to use it for? The Truth was becoming a very cryptic bystander to CJ.
As he continued to eat, he heard a familiar voice on a talk radio show. It was OG Loc! He was babbling and boasting about how gangster he was and how he was able to somehow get a record deal in spite of his terrible rapping, which he never bothered to bring up. CJ became even more surprised when he learned that OG Loc's manager was Big Smoke, who tried to convince the listeners that OG Loc is a true gangster, and that Lazlo, the guy on the radio, has been convinced that Smoke was helping the community.
Oh how little you know, pal, CJ thought, reminding himself of Smoke's betrayal.
CJ didn't have time to think about Big Smoke at this point, much less any time to wonder how such a wannabe thug like OG Loc would get into the rap business. He still needed enough money to get Sweet out of jail, and Woozie was waiting for him in Las Venturas at any moment. So he finished his food and stepped outside of the restaurant.
As he got onto the Sanchez, he decided to see Barbara. So he started the engine and rode around the desert to find Barbara's place. He approached El Quebrados, where he saw Barbara at the sheriff's station.
"Over here, Carl!" Barbara called to CJ.
CJ pulled up in front of Barbara and the latter approached him.
"Come on, CJ," Barbara told him, trying to get him to hop off and to her Ranger. "Let's find somewhere to eat."
"Okay," CJ answered as he hopped into the Ranger. "Let's go."
So CJ drove through the road on a search for a restaurant. He made his way through the roads of Tierra Robada. "I love it around here, Carl," Barbara said. "This whole desert is crawling with CIA."
"This really interesting," CJ muttered.
Soon, after a long drive, CJ finally spotted the diner up ahead. He drove to the diner and parked up front. "This the spot," he told Barbara.
"Excellent," Barbara stated as the two hopped out of the Ranger.
The two were now seen dining together and staring at each other's eyes. "So you a cop, huh?" CJ asked Barbara.
"Yep," Barbara answered. "I graduated from college with my master's degree in criminal justice back in 1984."
"1984?" CJ asked. "How old are you now?"
"30," Barbara responded. "I got married just three years later to a firefighter and we both had two kids shortly after. We had our daughter in 1988 and our son in 1990."
"You got married?" CJ asked. "Well what happened to your husband?"
"He kept calling me a control freak all because I wanted everything in order and neat around the house, and he was getting physical," Barbara told CJ. "That's when I divorced the asshole in 1991 and took my children with me. They're currently staying with their aunt and uncle."
"Whoa," CJ said. "Sorry to hear that."
"Yeah," Barbara said sadly.
CJ then began drinking his water... until he coughed it up and stared back at Barbara. "Wait!" he cried out. "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you correctly. Did you say you have KIDS?!"
"Yeah," Barbara told him. She reached in her pocket to pull out photos of herself with a young girl and boy, as well as a few other photos of the young girl and boy. "See? There they are!"
CJ stared back in shock. "I didn't know you had children!" he said.
"Of course," Barbara told him quietly. "It isn't a problem, is it?"
"Uh, no," CJ told her. "Of course not, Barbara. I was just surprised, is all!"
"Okay then," Barbara said. "I'm glad you don't see anything wrong with that."
"Not at all," CJ lied. "Listen, you mind sitting here to wait for me? I gotta take a trip to the men's room real quick. That water really went right through me."
"Oh, of course, CJ," Barbara said. "Go on ahead."
"Thanks," CJ said.
He hopped out of his chair and made his way through the hallway, leaving Barbara to sit patiently at the table. As CJ looked back, he quickly headed inside the men's restroom and looked around frantically. There, he saw an open square window right next to the sink. So CJ quickly climbed through it and hopped out of the outside.
He looked around to find a motorbike parked right next to Barbara's Ranger. He looked around and quickly, but quietly crept to the motorbike and hopped on. He quickly started the engine and rode onto the road.
Sorry Barb, CJ thought. I ain't interested in being no stepfather.
CJ really liked Barbara, as she was a cop and only had one ex-husband. But he couldn't bring himself to become the stepfather of kids that weren't even biologically his. He has finally given up on finding any more girls at this point, as many of the girls he had met were far too much even for a guy like him.
I guess Cesar was right, CJ thought. Maybe I should just stick with Lisa after all. After all, she's the only girl I know who ain't fucking crazy, nor is she married with children.
Just then, he heard his cellphone ring. He pulled it out of his pocket to answer it.
"Hey," CJ answered.
"Carl," he heard Truth say over the phone. "It's me, The Truth. We got a date with destiny, man – in about five minutes."
"Where you at?" CJ asked.
"At the old airplane graveyard you've been hanging around," Truth replied.
CJ hung up the cellphone and continued riding on the dirt road. The cool wind blew through his face as he dashed. The roads were empty and stagnant, completely devoid of any cars at the moment.
As CJ made his way back to Verdant Meadows, he hopped off his vehicle and looked around. There was no sign of Truth anywhere, nor was his van either. CJ took a seat on one of the crates behind the building. He looked around the area. Again, everything was empty. There was nothing in sight, with the exception of the surroundings of the airstrip and the mountains far ahead. The sky had now switched from being purple and pink to dark blue. It was now pitch dark. There wasn't a single sound heard around the desert, with the exception of the sounds of the crows distantly. CJ waited for thirty seconds, wondering where The Truth was.
"Damn," CJ muttered as he sat around expecting Truth. "Where is this fool?"
"Woooah! Shit! Oh!" CJ finally heard Truth yell out.
He looked behind him to see the old man flying the jetpack, completely out of control.
"Hey, man, look out!" CJ shouted as he ducked out of the way, barely avoiding getting hit.
The Truth slammed into the ground as the jetpack fell out of his grip. "Damn! Ow!" he cried as he slowly got up to his feet "THE NEW AGE BEGINS HERE!"
"Say what?" CJ asked.
"Not all fantastic things are lies, Carl!" Truth explained. "Today, we'll know EVERYTHING."
"Oh, I can hardly wait," CJ replied caustically. "I hear knowledge is truly sacred in this part of the world."
"Man, I've tried, but I can't fly for shit!" Truth told him. "You better do it. Land on the train, kill the guards, get in and steal the stuff."
"Oh, yeah?" CJ asked. "What stuff?"
"I don't know yet!" Truth answered.
"Oh. You don't know yet!" CJ answered, pacing a few inches from the eccentric elderly man. "I was starting to think you was a lunatic." Then he paused for a few seconds, looking dumbfounded. "What you mean "you don't know yet"?" he asked as he re-approached the elderly man once again.
"You'll be stealing the answer!" Truth told him. "Look, fly the jet pack. Land on the train. And steal whatever they least want us to get."
That's when Truth looked around.
"Shhh," he told CJ, trying to keep him silent. "Listen." He looked around, cupping a hand over his right ear. "They're coming." he said. "We better go. Peace on earth, dude."
CJ watched as The Truth left. The old man had ordered him to locate a train to steal whatever it was he wanted to take. So CJ took the jetpack Truth had given him and flew over through the desert to locate the train tracks. There it was, the train rolling on the tracks. He saw some soldiers guarding the storage on the train and saw the right opportunity to search for the stuff Truth had mentioned to him earlier. As he flew around the train, he used his tech nines to shoot at the guards on the train. He continued searching for the stuff he was supposed to obtain in each cart until he finally saw a jar with green goo inside.
That must be the stuff Truth was talking about, he thought.
So CJ grabbed the jar and flew off, with the remaining guards on the train shooting at him. CJ paid them no mind as he flew back to Verdant Meadows. As he finally got there, he took off the jetpack and discerned the jar for a few seconds.
"You got it, man?" Truth asked as he approached CJ.
"I got something," CJ replied.
"Let me see," Truth said, grabbing the jar of goo from CJ's hands. "Oooh... Everything is different now."
"What is it?" CJ asked eagerly.
"Everything," Truth answered. "They will call this 'year zero'. I'll be in touch."
He then turned and hopped into his Mothership. "Hey wait!" CJ called as the engine of the vehicle began. "What is...?!" But before he knew it, Truth had already left. "Yeah, see you around," CJ muttered.
Just then, he heard his cellphone ring. CJ answered it. "So Carl, how was your mission with that Truth guy?" he heard Toreno ask him.
"Toreno!" CJ cried out. "What the hell you want?"
"Just thought I'd check in to see how you're handling things with the crazy old man," Toreno responded. "I heard you collected some green goo from the train."
"So what exactly was that stuff for anyways?" CJ asked.
"What you just collected there was the glow-in-the-dark goo, made by some lunatic scientist in 1958," Toreno answered. "That was used as fuel for night goggles in replacement of batteries."
"Batteries?" CJ asked. "This gooey stuff?!"
"Weird, ain't it?" Toreno answered. "You'd be surprised how seemingly useless materials such as that becomes vitally utilitarian for your future missions."
"All that is nice and all," CJ told him, "but what's this got to do with me getting my brother out of jail?"
"The less I tell you, the more you'll work your way to be rewarded to see him again," Toreno responded. "For the most part, I just want you to do whatever you can to work for the bail money. Besides, you still have your other allies: your baby sister, her Latino boyfriend, two stoned mechanics, your friends from Los Santos, your friend's sister - I heard you two are currently dating by the way... "
"Well sort of," CJ replied, feeling rather amorous. "She's real beautiful, and we only been...Hey wait a minute! How the hell you know about all of them?"
"How many times do I have to tell you, Carl?" Toreno said. "I know everything. Have I not been lucid as to who I am and what I do?"
CJ just let out a sigh, feeling dumbfounded. "Didn't think so," Toreno replied. "Now why don't you have a great time in Las Venturas, CJ? Your blind Chinese ally's waiting for you."
As Toreno hung up, CJ decided to travel to Las Venturas. It was a nice night to go out for a drive through the desert. He spotted the Sanchez by the building. So he hopped onto the vehicle and took a nice, long road trip through the deserts. He turned on the radio and came across the CSR 103.9 station, which currently played TLC's "Baby-Baby-Baby". CJ naturally wasn't a fan of TLC, nor a fan of R&B in general. But it reminded him of Lisa, as she was a new fan of TLC, and the few good times CJ had with Lisa as well ever since she moved into San Fierro to help out him and the others last month. Plus it was a perfect song for him to play while cruising on the freeway. So he kept it on to play. It was a nice ride through the dark onto the freeway. He was really enjoying the ride and couldn't wait to see what Woozie had waiting for him.
