A/N Hey, guys. I want to welcome you back in the second chapter of the Euphoria series featuring my OC character Vincent Chiang. So first before I get started, I want to apologize to you guys for not updating last month because it's been a really tough month of February for me. With everything that's going on with my life, I haven't been doing my best to improve as a writer. But I will do everything I can to make it up to you guys and make more room for improvement as a writer. But anyway, this is chapter two and it's based on Season One Episode Two Stuntin' Like My Daddy. I really haven't kept up much because of the time jumps and I'm having a rough time figuring out which year the series takes place in. Hopefully when I know more about the time jumps, I will do my best to write this more often. So, this is the second chapter, and here we go.
TW: Cursing, and Mention of Drugs
I only own my OC.
Rue's Narration: Sometimes, when I get really high, I kind of think I'm psychic. When Nate Jacobs was 11 years old, he found his dad's porn collection. His dad, Cal, was obsessive. His mom always said that's who he got it from. Then he quickly realized that the colored cases and placement were no accident. It was an elaborate code, that no one fucked with his shit. Every video was basically the same. They'd drink, make small talk... ...and then his dad would fuck the shit out of some... By 12, he had adopted a rigid diet and workout schedule. Within a year, his body fat dropped from 23% to 6%. He joined the football team as a freshman and quickly excelled. By the year's end, he was not only the starting quarterback, but the team captain. He loved the crowds, the pats on the back, the cheers, the feeling of winning. But he hated being in the locker room. He hated how casual how his teammates were about being naked... ...how they'd talk to him with their dicks hanging out. He made a concerted effort to always maintain eye contact during these exchanges. Every now and then, he'd forget, and accidentally catch a glimpse of someone's penis. His older brother Aaron was a fuck-up. He could tell his dad didn't like Aaron, didn't think he had guts or brains or half a fucking clue and Nate agreed. He didn't talk to his dad that much, but they didn't need to. They had a good relationship. He didn't like his mother either. She was weak, and a pushover. Plus, she didn't take care of herself. He made a long mental checklist of the things he liked and disliked about women. He liked tennis skirts and jean cut-offs, but not the kind so short you could see the pockets. He liked ballet flats and heels. He hated sneakers and dress shoes. But was fine with sandals as long as they were worn with a fresh pedicure. He liked thigh gaps, hated cankles. He liked tan lines, long necks, slender shoulders. He liked good posture and fruit-scented body mist. He liked full lips, and small noses. He liked chokers, but the lacy ones with flower cutouts or delicate patterns. He hated girls who sat like boys, talked like boys, acted like boys. But there was nothing on planet Earth he hated more than body hair. That's one of the first things he noticed about Maddy. She was basically hairless. He'd walk her home from school every day. Made him feel good to know that he was there to protect her. He knew the world was full of men who wanted to hurt Maddy. Men who hang out the windows of their cars and scream obscenities at her. College guys who wouldn't think twice about drugging her. Lonely guys who'd spot her at a mall. Men who'd rape her, torture her, sell her into sexual slavery. He didn't even like to think about it. He did, however, like to think about the things he'd do to protect her. He also liked that Maddy was a virgin, that no guy had ever put his penis in her. He sometimes imagined marrying Maddy and starting a family. He knew he didn't want boys, though. But he also didn't like the idea of having girls. Plus, Maddy could be a real bitch. Like that night at McKay's party, something just flipped. And he knew he had anger issues, but, I mean, so did every guy. It's not like that was anything in his life he could trace it back to. It was just... who he was, and who he'd always be.
In the month of September, Vincent woke up at the sound of his alarm clock blaring, and he couldn't remember the last time he slept. He turns over to his side and pressed the stop button on his phone's alarm. Opening and rubbing his brown-bluish eyes, Vincent observed the sun rising outside his bedroom's window. Running his hand through his messy hair, he sat up and tossed the covers aside, as he got ready to start his junior year of high school.
"I'm tired." he grumbled as he walked to his bedroom's door and opened it.
Vincent's bedroom was mostly set up with posters and a wall of polaroids, to remember the memories he made as a kid. Most of the polaroid pictures consisted of him on his play dates with Lexi during their days. Making his way to the washroom, the Chinese-Spanish teen turned on the water and started brushing his teeth as he wants to look good on his first day back at Eastland High as a junior.
After cleaning up, he made his way back to his bedroom and changed into a basketball shirt and a pair of skinny jeans as he grabbed his phone and his black Adidas backpack before putting on his pair of Air Jordan shoes and going to the garage to get his bike so he could ride his bike to school since Eva has to leave early in the morning for work. Bringing out his phone, he quickly sent a text to Lexi.
Vincent - Morning, Lex.
Lexi - Morning, Vinny.
Vincent - I'm on my way to school. Do you need me to stop by your place so we can go to school together?
Lexi - I'm stuck with Cassie for today. Maybe I'll see you there?
Vincent - For sure. I'll see you at school.
Putting his phone away in his pocket, Vincent hops on his bike and rode to East Highland High School to begin his junior year. Some of the people that he knows would be back there either in junior or senior year. But the only person he knows that's going to college is McKay since he had graduated last year, although there is one thing that Vincent knows. And that is drama, romantic relationships, and new friendships formed.
Arriving at the school's campus, he parks his bike near the bike rack and locked it as he slung his backpack over his shoulders and walked to the school's entrance before he observed some of the students catching up with their friends since some of them had either left or sticked around during the summer. Walking past McKay's younger brothers Roy and Troy, who look like exact each other, doesn't seem to bother Vincent, although he has trouble telling who is who. He observed his new friend Jules walking together with Rue while Cassie, Maddy, and Barbara Brooks, or as everyone calls her BB, talked about Jules and her attempt to commit suicide at McKay's party. Vincent noticed some bandages wrapped around Jules' left arm where she had cut her left arm with a knife the other night.
'Looks like Jules had found a way to stop her arm from blood loss.' he thought.
Going over to his new locker, Vincent puts his backpack in the locker before someone tapped on his left shoulder. Turning his head to the side, his brown-bluish eyes made eye contact with a certain best friend's dark brown eyes.
"Hey, Lex." he greeted as he adjusted a small smile on his face.
"Hey, how are you?" she asked.
"I'm good, and you?" he replied as he took a binder and a notebook out of his backpack.
"I'm good since summer's been boring." she said.
"At least we both did something in the summer." he said as he closed his locker.
"Walk me to drama class?" she offered.
"Sure thing." he accepted.
The two best friends walked to drama class together while everyone else went to their own classes to start their first day of school. Going to the gym, some of the students found their own seats on the floor while Vincent sat beside Lexi with his left leg crossed behind his right leg and his right arm on top of his right leg.
"So, let's start with a little improvisation. I'd like each of you to get up and tell us a five-minute story about your summer." the drama teacher announced as she called for Rue, hiding behind the other classmate, "Looks like we have our first volunteer: Rue."
"Please don't do this to me." Rue muttered.
"Come on, everyone. Let's give her a little encouragement. A memory? Anything that had an impact on you this summer." the drama teacher encouraged.
Rue stepped onto the stage as she tried to figure out what she did in the summer. Both Vincent and Lexi noticed Rue was having trouble thinking of what she wanted to share, but there is something that Vincent doesn't know about.
"Did you see anything weird about Rue this summer?" Vincent whispered to Lexi.
"Well, she came over to my house three days ago and asked me to piss in a Tylenol bottle so she could prove to her mother that she's not doing drugs." Lexi replied.
"Jesus Christ." Vincent grumbled.
The two best friends could hear their two classmates talking behind them about how messed up Rue is and having brain damage. And Vincent clearly didn't like this. He isn't about to let his two classmates bad mouthing Rue.
"Hey, you two are being fucking rude." Vincent called.
"Mr. Chiang, no talking and no cursing please." the drama teacher called.
After a couple of minutes, Rue ran off the stage while Lexi got up and ran to check on Rue, and this made Vincent realize that Lexi is showing her concern towards Rue for doing drugs, even though that Rue and Lexi had known each other since pre-school.
"Anyone want to go next?" the drama teacher asked.
"I'll go next." Vincent replied as he stood up and went to the stage.
Taking it to the stage, Vincent spoke through the microphone and shared what he has done in the summer while everyone stayed silent for the whole time and not spoke a thing.
"Thank you, Mr. Chiang." the drama teacher said proudly.
"Is it hard to say my first name instead of my last name?" Vincent muttered as he stepped off the stage and went back to his original seating place.
The next day, instead of a normal school day, there were rumors about a video that was posted on the Internet, speculating that Kat was involved in a sexual activity. Vincent, who was the only one that hasn't seen the video, became concerned. Sitting in class that he shares with Jules and Kat, Vincent tries not to share his concern with anyone since he was busy having a small chit-chat with Maddy at McKay's party.
"Katherine Hernandez, please report to the principal's office. Katherine Hernandez to the principal's office." the P.A. system called.
Grumbling, Kat observed Jules a little bit before she got up and left her seat to report to Mr. Hayes, the head principal of East Highland High School. Vincent asked to be excused as he got up from his seat to help defend Kat and her involvement in the sexual activity. Going to the office, Kat knocked on the door as she made eye contact with Vincent.
"Come in." Mr. Hayes called.
Vincent and Kat went in at the same time, but Mr. Hayes raised his eyebrows at Vincent, having unannounced his presence.
"Mr. Chiang, I didn't call you to come and report to me." Mr. Hayes spoke.
"I'm here to defend Ms. Hernandez here and her suspected involvement in the video." the Chinese-Spanish teen replied.
"I heard a very disturbing rumor." Mr. Hayes began.
"About what?" asked Kat.
"There is a recording of you engaged in... sexual activity. Or something to that effect, that is being shared amongst the students." Mr. Hayes replied.
"Is this about that video of that girl getting banged from behind? Because no, it's not me, but... just out of sheer curiosity, what could have possibly led you to believe that is was?" Kat questioned.
"I just want to be clear that I haven't personally seen the video..." Mr. Hayes started.
"It is because the girl in the video is fat, Principal Hayes?" Kat demanded.
"I'm not jumping to conclusions, Katherine..." Mr. Hayes cuts in.
"Mr. Hayes, what everyone here in East Highland is saying is not true. Kat's not involved in any of the sexual activities. Look, I haven't seen the video either, because it is not the right thing to do and it makes it so much worse. And someone could end up being a victim of an illegal activity." Vincent stated dryly.
"I'd just appreciate it if everyone would stop talking to me like it was, because, frankly, it's... offensive. You know, it's one thing for my classmates to body shame me, but for you, Principal Hayes that's just... a whole nother thing. It's degrading. It's... discriminatory. And it just goes to show how insidious, and... systemic body terrorism truly is in this country. From my own principal." Kat stated.
Well, I'm... I'm... I... I can't apologize enough. And I give you my word, I will do everything in my power to put an end to this rumor." Mr. Hayes finished.
"Thank you, Principal Hayes." said Kat.
"If there isn't anything else, Mr. Hayes, Kat and I would ask for your permission to let us leave the office." Vincent finished politely.
"Very well, Mr. Chiang. You and Katherine are allowed to leave." Mr. Hayes stated.
"Thank you, sir." said Vincent as he and Kat got up from their seats and left the office.
At lunch time, Vincent sat beside Lexi at a table while Rue and Jules sat at another table, engaging in a conversation as the pep rally took place at the cafeteria.
"You guys pumped?" the coach asked.
"Yeah!" the crowd shouted, feeling pumped.
"Are we gonna win?" the coach asked.
"Yeah!" the crowd shouted again.
"Then let's hear it for the East Highland Blackhawks!" the coach called.
Vincent observed some of the guys from East Highland's football team coming into the cafeteria while Cassie and Maddy led the group of cheerleaders down the stairs as they started dancing. While the pep rally was going down, Lexi tapped on Vincent's arm, as the Chinese-Spanish teen stopped eating his bag of chips.
"What's up, Lex?" he asked.
"I heard some rumours about you going to Principal Hayes' office earlier. Is there something going on that I don't know about?" she asked.
"Oh, it's about a video about Kat's suspected involvement in a sexual activity. I went to the office with Kat to help her out and explain to Principal Hayes about the situation." he explained.
"I hope you're not in trouble." said Lexi.
"I'm not." Vincent mocked as he raised his hands in surrender.
After school, the two best friends decides to walk home together after some stressful week at school, first with Lexi voicing her concern for Rue and her use of drugs, and second with Vincent defending Kat and her suspected involvement in a video. Walking to the Howard household, Vincent and Lexi made a stop at the front door.
"This is me." said Lexi.
"Yeah, since I just a live a couple of blocks down from here." Vincent agreed.
"See you, Vinny." she said as she opened her arms.
"See you, Lex." he said as he hugged her and rubbed her shoulder.
Watching Lexi walk to the front door, Vincent hopped on his bike and went home as he had started thinking the times he spent with Lexi during their days as kids. But one thing was for sure, he wasn't ready to ask her out yet until the time is right to do so.
And that will be the end of chapter two for today. So what did you guys think? I'm sorry if I took so long to write this because I had to rewatch season one again so I could understand the transcript and how I could get Vincent involved in a circle. I also felt like Lexi is an underrated character in the series and she didn't get enough screen time in season one. But anyway, let me know what you guys thought of chapter two and I will see you in chapter three.
