Chapter 32
Sibling Nonbonding
The burning pain throughout my body subsided quickly. My healing was pushed to maximum overdrive to get me back to full strength. I wasn't all there, or at least my consciousness wasn't. The cool air felt good on my skin as I snuggled into whatever comfortable surface I was on.
CCCCHHHHOOOOOCCCCCHHHHHHOOOOOOO!
I practically jump into the air at the sound. My heart feels like it's about to burst out of my chest with how hard its hammering. My senses were spread out trying to find the immediate threat, my body in a stance to fight off any assailants.
Or I would have if I didn't see Adamos smirking at me with what appears to be an old-fashioned train whistle in his hand. It was even letting out cartoonish puffs of air before he seemingly dispelled it.
"It's always a sudden waking with you! Dammit!" I snapped as the ringing in my ears went away. I threw a stray pillow that just diverted itself around him. I then notice that I'm inside the beach house of the mental world that Adamos lives in. There seems to be new picture frames spread along the walls of unfamiliar faces compared to the pictures of my last visit, but I don't really give them to much attention.
"Does it irritate you?" The god asks as his smirk widens a fraction.
"YES!"
Adamos just let out a snort of amusement, that irritating smirk still on his face for a few moments before softening. Becoming less smug and more proud. "Alternative alarm clocks aside," Adamos grabbed me by the shoulders. "You did it Perce. You killed Scylla."
I blinked and it took a moment for my brain to remember how exactly I ended up her. I was pushed to my limits, breaking many bones and nearly dying but I did kill the monstrous Scylla. I mean, I used a divine weapon but Adamos always kept that thing restrained by four seals.
I couldn't help but let out a breathless chuckle. "Gods I almost thought that I was going to die a few times."
"Oh, by all accounts you should have." Adamos informed me before summoning a large white board with a few diagrams of the human body on it. "You have multiple breaks through out your left arm, hairline fractures in your right. A few broken and fractured ribs, a nasty head wound, pulled muscles through your right leg, numerous gashes and scrapes and a sprained ankle." Adamos pointed at the places with a lecturing stick. Each place on the diagram going through the same type of injury that he listed off. "If you were a mortal you probably would have died from your injuries, a normal demigod? Out of commission for a few days with the help of nectar and ambrosia. You, personally have a few hours before going back to one hundred percent again."
I could feel the blood drain a bit from my face as I looked at the injury chart. "I guess she really did a number on me."
Adamos collapsed his lecture pointer and shrugged. "You would have lived. Demigods are far more resilient that mortals. Though you did get a good number of these from when you passed out mid flight and crashed through six stalagmites. That's actually what broke your arm."
"I was wondering when that happened."
"Either ways." Adamos flipped the whiteboard over and marked a tally. "That's number one."
"One for what?"
"For the number of times passed out during a quest of course." Adamos said with every bit of excited seriousness as a gambler waiting for the numbers to be called. "I'm hoping that we surpass the number of times from last quest."
"Shouldn't you be hoping I get knocked out less?"
"Pft, nah." He waves off. I only respond by punching him in the shoulder.
I instantly regret it. My hand aches as it feels like I just punched a steel girder.
"Gah! The fuck are you made of?" I could feel my hand pulsing as it starts to redden around the knuckles.
"Sturdier things than you Fish stick." Adamos laughs and despite what he may think, I definitely wasn't pouting. I was sorely tempted seeing if it was worth it to punch him in the face. I'd hurt my hand again but…
I shook my head. "Whatever. You got any ideas on where to go? Because I have no idea where I'm supposed to go."
"Hmmm," Adamos thinks for a moment. "We could go to Atlantis."
"The Atlantis? Like the one that Poseidon rules?" I ask.
"Unless you know of another Atlantis out in the middle of the ocean? It should be a few hours swim from here for you."
I didn't really know that it was possible to get to Atlantis. I had always assumed that it was sectioned off from the rest of the world much like Olympus and the Underworld. Needing some kind of special transport to reach it. But according to Adamos it was quite accessible.
But that brought up another question. Did I even want to go to Atlantis? I know that I'd probably be met with open arms by my father, but Amphitrite and Triton were other stories entirely. I didn't know how they would feel about me, but from what I heard it wouldn't be a warm reception.
"Would they be able to help us find the others?" I asked.
"I'd be more surprised if they couldn't."
I only think about it for a moment before making my decision. "All right. Send me back." I say facing Adamos. I couldn't really see any other option in finding the others. Maybe I could use a spell to track them or something, but I wasn't that confident in my ability to navigate through the sea of monsters alone. I wasn't Adamos. I couldn't wrestle sea monsters into submission or throw a spear at Mach 2 under water. I may feel as strong as Hercules underwater but there were just too many dangers to travel alone for so long in unfamiliar waters.
Adamos gives me a nod and snaps his fingers and the world explodes into white.
X
My eyes open to a cave ceiling. Stale air fills my lungs as I take a deep breath. My body no longer burned from the pain. Gently I test out my limbs, slowly moving them around in little paddle motions before steadily going for bigger rotations. Before long I'm backstroking through a massive pool of sea water and gold dust and I maybe did a few backflips as well.
Swimming over to the edge I pull myself out and feel the extra energy leaving me quickly and causing me to stumble a little bit before I was able right myself. Looking around I was able to see the total damage that my fight with Scylla caused.
Large boulders and stalagmites were completely destroyed, leaving debris everywhere. Decent sized craters littered the walls as a result of the hard-draconic heads of Scylla's lower half colliding with the wall at such high speeds.
It was a wonder how they didn't develop brain damage from that.
I reach to my pocket and feel Riptide resting comfortably there. Breathing a sigh of relief, I activate Sha'an. In a move that I had spent many more hours than I was willing to admit on, I heard the shield cut through the air before coming close enough that I shot my hand out. The leather straps fitting comfortably over my arm.
"Just like Captain America." I think with a modicum of pride, slightly wishing that someone was here to see that. Adamos doesn't count since he's seen me fail at that far too many times to ever be impressed.
"Now what was the symbol?" I thought as I tried to remember what the spell was for summoning my infini-bag before snapping my fingers in remembrance. It wasn't to long before my trusty pocket dimension carrier was back in my possession.
"I hope no one freaks out because it vanished?"
"…I'm sure its fine."
Jumping back into the large body of water I swim all the way to the bottom, stopping only momentarily to grab one of Scylla's severed dragon heads and some teeth and claws.
Never know when you need to bribe or use them, and they are pretty cool trophies.
Just as expected the bottom of the shaft did in fact connect to the ocean. The exit tunnel containing a large amount of sea life that all gathered around me in reverence. It took a few minutes to convince all of them to leave me alone, especially that sword fish that wanted to be my knight after he heard I was on a quest, but I managed to escape the frenzy.
Making my way out of the entrance I finally get a good look at Charybdis from a distance. It was like Percy Jackson and the beanstalk with how large the mass of green flesh was as it seemed to extend from the bottom of the ocean to the surface.
"Im uh…I'm gonna take the long way around." I mentally say as I swim along the wall, trying my best to remain as inconspicuous as possible. I didn't know if Charybdis could move from her spot, but I wasn't going to find out.
X
It took a few hours before I found my first settlement of merfolk. It was actually quite the relief as I had been attacked by a few sea monsters on my way over. Nothing to large. They were sleek things around the size of sealions that weren't as fast, though that might have been from me manipulating the water enough that to them it was like trying to swim against a sea current. Three quick slashes were all it took to turn them into golden dust.
Anyways, I was immediately singled out as soon as I made it into the settlement. The people all stared at me as I swam past them in the streets. I could faintly hear their whispers about me.
It wasn't anything bad. The people seemed more curious rather than cautious. As if the fact that I was here was the same as seeing Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson himself wander into town for no reason.
"Why do they keep staring?" I think as I look over at a group of mermaids and mermen. As soon as they see me looking at them, they avert their gazes, like naughty school children who were caught with their hands in the proverbial cookie jar.
"Maybe we're so far out in the underwater boonies that they don't get visitors, or maybe you're just that handsome?" Adamos says and I can hear the sarcasm in his voice. "Or maybe it's the fact that you're the only person here that doesn't look like they belong on the side of a Starbucks coffee?"
"I can see the fucking obvious. I meant why are they staring at me like the president just stepping to a McDonalds? It's like they want to ask me something but are too afraid to."
"The only way to find out is to ask."
I lightly sigh to myself as I look around. I see a boy and girl around a fountain. It wasn't spewing water obviously, but it was just…there. Like it was just for aesthetic purposes, but I couldn't help but feel that something better could be put there. It wasn't even a special fountain, but a generic one you'll find at any mall. They could at least put—
"Percy. Focus. Questions first. Aesthetic rants later."
Right.
I swim over to the two of them and I could see their eyes widen. Neither of them look much older than me, maybe a year or two but with mythological races you can never be sure of their actual age. For all I knew they could be 57 years old.
"H—Hi. I'm Percy. How, um…are you doing good?" I stumble through my question. Inwardly I cringe at how awkward that sounded. First impressions weren't my strong suit.
The two of them froze like a deer in the headlights. Their eyes went wide at me. In the merman's hands were what looked like a sack of groceries. They were probably running errands or something.
"Uh…Hello?" I ask once again. This time breaking them from their stupor, though this resulted in a far different and much more uncomfortable reaction than I was hoping.
"Oh! Y-Your highness. We are so sorry!" The mermaid hastily apologized before getting into a bow, showing me for the first time their sharp teeth, much like a predators. She grabs the boy's arm, dragging him down with her. "We didn't mean to ignore you, er, we didn't mean to offend you in any way." The mermaid spoke so quickly yet her words were so clear that I was kind of impressed. Her companion gave a polite apology as well, neither one raising their heads to look me in the eye even once.
I looked between both bowing figures, not knowing what my course of action should be. I had never been revered before. At the moment all could do was let out an unintelligent 'uhhh'.
"What are you waiting for? They won't do anything until you tell them to." Adamos coaxes.
"Uh…you may…rise?" It was obvious that I said it more as an unsure question than an actual command. The two merfolk immediately rose to attention. Their backs straight and their posture at attention, but I could see the nervousness in their eyes, as if they didn't know if what they were doing was correct. The merman himself was tightening and loosening his grip on his bag, like he didn't know what to do with it.
"Hey. Relax." I said with my most easy-going smile. I raised my hands in a calming gesture. "I'm not going to bite your heads off or anything." The two of them looked rather confused. Their eyes met and they seemed to have one of those unspoken conversations before their shoulders hesitantly slumped unto a more relaxed stance.
"Um, how may we help you your highness?" The merman spoke. Inwardly I felt a twist in my gut.
"Please don't call your highness." I asked and immediately we were back to square one as the two of them bowed and began to spew out apologies like water from a hose. I quickly moved them back to the regular position, ceasing the stream of apologies. "Hey, hey. I'm not mad or anything. I just…don't feel too comfortable with being called you highness."
"Of course, my lord." The two of them said in unison. I wanted to correct them again but Adamos cut me off.
"We'll be here all day if you keep trying to correct them. Just accept it and ask your questions."
"So, is it alright if I ask you a question?" I asked and received to slightly hesitant nods in return. "Could you explain to me why everyone keeps staring, and why you are calling me your highness?"
The two-merfolk looked at me as if I just asked if the sky was green.
"You…don't know My lord?" The mermaid asked to which I just shook my head no. "My lord, you are the son of King Poseidon." She explained. "News of your birth has already spread throughout all of the oceans. It is only natural that one of the royal family be treated with such respect."
I was shocked. I had no idea that all of Atlantis knew about me. Hell, at school I was basically an absolute nobody. The only people that even knew I existed were the bullies and Tyson. "Can I ask how you know all of this?"
"His Highness announced your success in retrieving the Masterbolt to all of the kingdom as well as your lineage to the royal family."
"I guess this was one of those proud daddy moments." Adamos commented but I didn't respond. Instead I just thanked the two merfolk for answering my questions and swam off without a second glance.
I never really gave much thought to my relationship with Poseidon. Despite our rocky first official meeting, the one where I punched him, I liked to think that we were at least on good terms. Not enough for me to openly call him dad or anything but good terms, nonetheless. To hear that he is showing off my achievements like a normal proud parent, it was a bit weird, yet oddly endearing.
"This is totally something that father would do." Adamos spoke with a bit of nostalgia. "I remember when I was younger and killed a sea monster that was attacking the borders of Atlantis, he tore down one of his statues and hung it there for people to see."
"It just sounds so weird. Hearing him act like an actual parent." I though as I swam out of town. A pathway lit by glowing markers susceptible only to the eyes of those that belonged to the ocean guided me to Atlantis. "No offense but you deities don't exactly come off as the friendliest company."
"None taken." Adamos shrugged. "But you know Percy. If people all knew who you were this far out, what do you think it will be like when you get to Atlantis?"
"…Fuck me."
X
"…found the bolt…"
"…killed with a look…"
"…fought a god…"
"…seduced fifteen different women…"
I felt my face flush at that last one.
Ever since I made it to Atlantis, I had become the center of attention. People parted like the red sea wherever I went, and their eyes never once looked away. It was like that small town on the outskirts as well as another that I managed to pass through but one hundred times worse. Some how word of my impending arrival managed to reach Atlantis before I did if the crowd of people at the gates meant anything.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a few shady figures skulking about. I would have never known about them if Adamos hadn't confirmed what I was seeing.
Apparently Atlantis had their own secret service/royal guard whose main duty was to protect the royal family from any threats and such, not that they truly needed it since they were gods but it was tradition and Adamos reasoned that there was no point in killing a mouse with a cannon.
A bit cocky for a reason but I could see their point. No reason to burn down a shed to kill a spider, no matter how much Annabeth tries to justify it.
We still need to replace those practice swords.
Anyways, they have been stealthily following the moment I swam into the city.
I looked over at the crowd that had lined the streets. They had given me space, and all looked at me like I was some kind of exotic animal.
I gave a small wave to a random group of mermaids that looked my age, causing them to squeal and fangirl. I quickly sped up my pace as I hurried down the street, not wanting for anyone to get any ideas and start crowding.
Luckily for me the palace of Atlantis is rather easy to find. It stood as a tall imposing castle in the center of the city, its beauty rivaling that of Olympus with its own unique style fit for those that lived underwater and had complete freedom of movement. As I looked up at it, I couldn't help but feel speechless, much like my first visit to Olympus.
The sound of snapping fingers broke me from my trance, reminding me that I now stood at the steps of the palace. Merman soldiers lined the steps with their spears held at the ready. Each one that I passed as I ascended stood at attention, as if this was some kind of ceremony or something, their faces somehow more composed than the guards to Buckingham palace.
"It seems they really are brothers." I murmured in my mind as I first laid eyes on the monstrosity that was the palace doors. They were massive golden things that looked like they weighed a few tons each. All along its surface were images of merman warriors, ships sailing, storms, currents and animals. Basically, anything that had to do with the oceans were carved into it with such fine and delicate detail that it almost looked lifelike.
I almost reached out to touch it but before I could, the doors swung open on their own without a sound making me jump back.
A pair of sea green eyes stared back at me. A bit darker than my own and as cold as the arctic ocean. The man looking at me had long black hair that reached to his shoulders, tied into a ponytail and deep green colored skin along with two fish tails for legs as opposed to the singular tail. He wore a chiton that seemed fit for royalty. A mix of sea green and gold weaved together.
"It seems that you have made your way to the palace boy." The man spoke with the barest hints of venom, as if he was trying to keep the loosest sense of formality.
"Triton." Adamos spoke with a neutral tone in my head.
"Good day Lord Triton." I said, adding on the lord to at least get on his good side. He certainly wasn't hiding the fact that he didn't want me around by the way he narrowed his eyes.
Triton gave an annoyed sigh before turning and swimming into the palace with only a simple order to follow him.
The doors closed behind me as I swim inside, and I felt my mouth drop as I looked around. The inside was just as beautiful as the outside. The walls were made of slabs of stone probably from the deepest parts of the oceans and gemstone lanterns hung from pillars that lined the walls, radiated light.
Paintings, vases, weapons and a bunch of other treasures lined the walls. I really wanted to pick them up and get a good look at them, but I wasn't the only one that thought of this if the glances that Triton was giving me meant anything. It took a lot of willpower not to pick one up.
I was so enamored with the decorations that I didn't even notice that we made it to what appeared to be the throne room.
"Well." Triton spoke with impatience, drawing me away from looking at the immaculate room. He was now sitting in a throne that sat on the right side of two other thrones with the one right next to him being much larger and more extravagant. I could only guess that the larger of the two empty thrones belonged to my father while the smaller empty throne must have belonged to Amphitrite.
"Um…where is Lord Poseidon?" I asked as I noticed that it was just us in the throne room. There weren't even any servants or guards present. The sheer isolation I felt as I was alone in a room with a deity that doesn't like me in the slightest put me on edge.
"Father," Triton spoke the word as if it were a right that only he was allowed. "has business in the outer reaches of the kingdom. He will not be returning for some time."
I felt my spirits dip a bit at the news. I hopped that I could have asked for info on my friends but that seemed far less likely now. Still, not yet ready to give in I prayed that Triton would at least be somewhat empathetic and helpful. "Then can I ask you something?" Triton made no protest, but his eyes did narrow a bit. "I was on a quest with other demigods and a cyclops named Tyson. I was wondering if you could tell me where they were."
Triton's face leveled into a sneer. "You bastards truly are arrogant. You come here unannounced and presume to make demands."
"Wha?" I was stunned at the amount of spite that filled his voice.
"Are you daft boy?!" Triton snarled. "Are you ears filled with kelp?"
"I heard what you said!" I couldn't help but raise my voice. "What I want to know is why?"
"I had hoped that you had come to apologize for your tainted existence." Triton spat. "It is bad enough that father has already claimed you in front of the kingdom." He grumbled that second part.
"Then why not just turn me away? Why bring me here?" I demanded, my temper flaring. I could feel the water start to become agitated as I lost my cool, but it never lashed out. Triton's own power keeping it just out of my grasp to wield.
"To draw the line. The line in the sand that separates those of different standings. That one's birth does not mean that they are excepted so easily, that doesn't mean that they have truly joined the collective masses under our banner. That mere words mean nothing in the face of true loyalty to ones heritage and kingdom."
"Is there a rest stop between now and the fucking point!?" I snapped at the prince.
Triton gave me a glare of cold disdain. "The POINT boy, is that despite father's claims you will never truly be one of us. You are an outsider born on the surface with no clue as to the lives of our citizens nor the responsibilities that those of our blood hold. Instead you gallivant across the surface like a fool playing hero with children."
I wanted nothing more than to punch him in the face at that moment. To show him that he couldn't just speak to me like I was some child that knew nothing. He didn't know me. He didn't know my life and yet he sits there and tries to make ME feel like an outsider!Like I had a responsibility to be here in Atlantis! Who the fuck did he think he was!?
"Percy. Calm yourself." Adamos ordered but I didn't want to. I waned to unleash my anger and knock out his teeth, but soon found that I couldn't. Adamos had my powers restrained under lock and key, preventing me from doing something drastic, yet probably worth it.
Slowly I began to take deep breathes as I let Adamos' presence sooth my nerves and suppress the anger that I felt. Without another word I turned around and swam away.
"Good riddance bastard." Triton couldn't help but throw one last insult, making me stop in my place and level him a furious glare. One he matched with a cold sneer. I left without a word.
X
"Stupid Triton with his stupid face and his stupid throne…" I ground out as I swam through the halls of the palace. I was so lost in sightseeing earlier that I never memorized the path back to the front of the castle and the windows were far to small for me to squeeze out of and just swim away.
"Where the hell is everyone!?" I practically shouted to the empty hallway that I was swimming through.
That was another thing. I hadn't seen scale or tail of any servants or guards this entire time. Either they were embarrassingly understaffed for a palace or they were all very good at avoiding me.
"By the gods will you shut up!" A female voice shouted from behind me.
The voice was so sudden that I already had Riptide in my hands by the time that I fully turned, prepped and ready to be transformed into its blade form.
What stared back at me was probably the largest woman that I had ever seen.
No, I don't mean weight wise, but rather in height.
She stood maybe a couple inches short of twenty feet tall, her head about a foot from scraping the ceiling. She seemed to have a very curvaceous body, with pale skin that seemed to glow in any light. Her black hair gave of a luminescent light almost exactly like Adamos' own, causing it to shimmer a bluish green at the edges. Less like an aurora borealis in a starless sky that Adamos had, but more along the lines of a bio-luminescent sea creature
She was beautiful or would have been if she wasn't making such a sour face with such bloodshot eyes. In her hands had to be one of the largest bottles of wine that I had ever seen. It was probably almost as tall as I was.
"So, you're back huh?" She slurred as she eyed me. She went to take another sip of her bottle only to realize that it was empty. With a disappointed sigh she tossed it away where it lazily drifted to the floor. "Well? What do you want this time?"
"Uh…I don't understand?" I had no idea who this was or what she wanted but it was clear that she was so wasted that she must have mistaken me for someone else.
"You don't yunderstand? What? Going senile in your old age Father." She swayed as she took a few steps closer.
"Father?" Now I was double confused. I had never met this woman before and now she is confusing me with her own dad.
"It seems that Kym is quite drunk off her ass." Adamos commented.
"Wait you know her?"
"She is our sister. Kymopoleia, or rather Kym for short. She is the goddess of violent sea's and storms."
"So, she must think I'm…"
"Our father, yes."
"Fan-fucking-tastic." I let out an internal sigh. "Listen I think that there's been some kind of mistake here."
"Oh, so I'm a mistake now?!"
"What!? No, I never said—" I tried to explain but she cut me off. Even though we were underwater, tears were visibly starting to come down her face somehow.
"Oh, I always knew it," Her voice becomes wet with emotion as she takes another swig of a bottle that she pulled from somewhere. "You and mother never cared. I see the looks. I hear the whispers. 'Why can't Kym apply herself like Triton?' or 'Why can't Kym be like Rhodes?' well I would if I could dad. I bet Aphrodite and Adamos would make better parents than you."
I stiffen at the name, but Kym seems to be so into her own drunken ranting that she didn't even know that she said a name that I shouldn't have known.
"So, another child of yours?" I ask sarcastically.
"I have many children with many different people from different pantheons. Rhodes was just born after the Titan wars but before I married Athena. I have another daughter that's considered a demon in Asia, would you like me to explain how she happened?"
I could hear the challenge in his voice at the question. It felt like he was asking a loaded question about his own choices and wouldn't hesitate to make the explanation as graphic and explicit as possible. "Nope. I prefer my mind didn't need a thorough bleaching after that kind of conversation."
I felt him nod in approval at my decision and I was about to let out a small breath of relief when I felt my instincts blare. I tilted my head back as vase took up the same spot that my head was just in previously.
"So, am I not worth your attention oh mighty Poseidon!? Just ignore me until I go away, is that it!?" Kym shouts at me as I dodged another vase. In the time that I was zoned out she had somehow managed to down her entire bottle of alcohol and pull out a third. She must have said something she thought was important because now she was actively trying to kill me via fancy decorations.
"I'm sorry!" I shouted as I deflected a nightstand by controlling the water. "Can't we talk this out? I'm not Poseidon!"
"Tryin tuh runaway, are yuh?" Kym's speech started to slur together even more than before as she drunkenly stumbles a bit. Her cheeks were flushed red from the booze. She raises her hand and I feel the water ripped from my control. I tried to use it, but it just wasn't responding. It was like a game of tug of war between control and I was losing ground fast.
Rather than trying to fight a losing battle I try to come up with a different plan.
Kym had clearly drunken enough alcohol to kill twenty mortals alone and was heavily inebriated. Her coordination was off, and her mental processes were mostly shot at this point.
I didn't want to admit it but for once, my years of experience with Gabe's alcoholism was going to be useful.
It wasn't an ability that I had a lot of practice with as I mostly left it to Adamos to control when I needed it rather than have to distract myself in the middle of combat trying to use it.
A pure white flame sparks in my hand. It was much smaller than whenever Adamos summoned it and I could feel a sharp tug in my gut trying to sustain it, but it seemed like enough. This was the flame of life, the spark that all living things have inside of them and the reason why when people visualize the soul, they seem a small spectral flame.
But seeing the life force of others wasn't what I needed right now. No, I needed its other property. It's ability to heal the body.
With a small boom I jet myself through the water at Kym, making sure to move out of the way of the furniture that she was tossing at me. When I got to close, she threw a wild swing in my direction the I barely avoided by backing myself against the wall. I put strength in my legs as I pushed off, colliding with Kym's face.
I pressed my flaming hand in between her eyes. Kym tries to shake me off, but I held on for dear life. The flames begin to work their magic as her own body's healing begins to work quadruple time on her.
I didn't know how long I had been going for before Kym gathered enough awareness to grab me and toss me away, but it was to late and the damage had already been done.
The thing about alcohol is that it is technically a poison to the body. I learned long ago from Adamos that mortal alcohol is almost like water to gods, it may taste the same, but it would take an entire tanker truck of beer to get a deity buzzed, much less hammered. Kym however was getting wasted at a much faster rate, meaning that the alcohol that she had been consuming was of godly make meaning that it was hitting her system hard.
The flames of life however are something that heals and brings the body back to peak physical condition, by pushing the body's healing beyond what should be possible. Everything from broken bones, cuts, concussions and even lost limbs and brain damage if the wound is fresh enough and not instantly fatal. It works like the healing factors that you see in comic books.
For Kym however it was pushing her metabolism to the max, processing and expelling the alcohol from her system as fast as it could, and judging by the size of the three bottles, she had drunken a lot of alcohol.
What happens when the body intakes large amounts of alcohol and is then quickly metabolized out of the system? The end result is a force induced hangover of epic proportions.
I put my fingers of my left hand to my lips and begin to blow. My right hand still on fire begins to flash like a strobe.
A loud whistle comes from my mouth that echoes through the halls as sound travels much farther under water. It was one of those loud taxicab whistles that everyone can hear for half a block.
Kym screams in agony, her eyes and ears closed shut as she tries to block out the sound. Her massive body was to big to move freely through the hall, causing her to bump into everything.
So, lost in her own splitting migraines from the sound that she accidentally backs up and slips on one of the empty bottles that she left on the floor.
She desperately tries to grab onto anything to stop her descent and manages to grab a nearby pillar, however her coordination was still off so she must have misread the amount of strength she needed and ended up pulling the pillar from where it connected to the floor and ceiling down with her.
I involuntarily flinch as I see the pillar land on her face and audibly crack apart.
After a moment I cautiously swim over. She hadn't moved at all and I was kind of worried that I may have killed her or something.
However, my worries were unwarranted as I saw that she didn't even have any damage at all other than slightly red bruise in the middle of her forehead.
I breathe a sigh of relief that it was all over and sit on a chunk of the broken pillar.
"This is going to take some clean up." Adamos spoke as we looked at the damages.
"I don't see what your complaining about." I responded in an exhausted voice. "You're not the one that has to run damage control on a goddess."
The sound of moans and gagging draws my attention back to Kymopoleia as stirs back to consciousness. I back up a bit and use the rock as a makeshift cover as I severely hoped that she wasn't going to wake up for round two.
Instead however she instinctively grabs a nearby vase that hadn't been broken in our little battle and begins to violently vomit her guts into it. The ceramic only highlighting the sounds of her retching and nearly making me want to vomit as well, but I forcibly push the feeling down.
After about a minute of grossness the goddess seemed to have fully expelled the contents of her stomach before passing out on the floor again with the grace of a sack of potatoes.
I look down the hall to see if anyone was going to come and see what all the commotion was but some how the place was still empty.
I see a massive door just a short distance away. It was open and easily bigger than all the others.
I looked between the goddess and the door and groan, knowing what I was going to have to do.
I could feel Adamos shaking his head in exasperation. "This is why I prefer Mom's side of the family."
A/N: PLEASE READ!
Hey there everyone. I'm sorry about the whole delay. I'm not very good at keeping schedules when working between my two stories. For me its I either focus on one or the other. I never switch between. That and the fact that in order to prevent serious burnout I spend three-four days not writing anything so as to get my head on what I want to do for the next few chapters. In fact, the ending of this chapter was one that I got from reading through some reviews because I vaguely remember reading about this as a suggestion. Like I said, if you suggest something and I find it good enough I'll see if I can fit it into the story. Also, I'm asking for readers to help me with something. I'm having a bit of difficulty coming up with a few ideas.
Firstly, I want Adamos to have a few signature magics that he uses. I already have one and I'm looking for a few others to teach Percy. If you have an idea and I find it well enough I will try to implement it. Just remember it can't be some thing to over the top. So no giant lasers shot from orbit with the ability to destroy mountains. For Percy magic is more of a utility thing rather than a primary fighting style. Being a pure mage is more Lou's thing.
Secondly, instead of just inserting random dreams into the chapters that tells of Adamos' life I'm going to be doing omakes every now and then at the end of the chapter. They'll be things that aren't really relevant to the story other than character interaction. Things like Adamos and Athena's first date or Adamos baby sitting the Leto twins or a day with other pantheons or something. If it's important to the story I'll add it into the main story otherwise I think that this would work better than just forcing an emotional scene or something. In my story Adamos is a male that Artemis herself loves dearly and enjoys being around. I gave a small interaction why in on of the early chapters and with this I can expand on them without having to force a reason. Percy doesn't rally need to know this stuff, but the readers do. Or maybe I'll just start another story entirely based around these one-shots.
Finally, I did read a few reviews and the reader was very upset that I didn't kill Gabe. If they didn't like the way that I did that, its fine but I do want to share my reasons. You might say that the entire first book was Adamos doing all the work and not killing Gabe was a bad decision and that's fine. But my reasoning is that Percy is only a twelve-year-old boy. He has no training and no idea what to do. Adamos however is a powerful god capable of solving these problems with ease. Percy trusts him because he has done nothing to dissuade him not to. If Adamos says he can help get Sally back than why would he refuse? Chiron himself has stated that Percy's problem is that he's too modest. That even with all his power and training he still continues to doubt if he can actually do something. As for not killing Gabe? I would like to reiterate. Percy is twelve. Adamos gave Percy the decision to kill Gabe but Percy couldn't do it. Maybe in the heat of the moment like in a fight he could but when given a choice Percy is a child raised by a caring mother under the same tutelage as other children. That voluntarily hurting others is a bad thing and that murder is wrong. You'd have to be a pretty messed up person to go from wanting to save your mom to being willing to commit cold blooded murder so easily. People seem to forget that before he was a demigod Percy was someone that lived mostly unaware in the mortal world.
Review response:
sames: Yes angels do exist, just maybe not how you expected. Also Adamos is very strong. How strong? Well he was equal to the big three while still in Greece. Currently? That's for me alone to know.
JoJo Jesus: No the spear is heavily shrouded by magical seals and mist. Even if it wasn't Percy can't utilize it to its fullest potential, and its under water and I doubt the Olympians have ways of detecting anything in Poseidon's domain. Also I will have a nice day.
Maelstrom Moonhunter: Adamos is the father of Jesus, making Percy his uncle. It's not a bash on any religions, its just that monotheistic religions like Christianity and Catholicism aren't actually real in this universe Only Polytheistic ones are real.
DebaterMax: I'm planning on short stories at the end to help fill in some background.
ThatCat413: Things are going a bit differently at the moment.
Happy Thanksgiving all you sexy beasts!
