Unknown Skies part 26
(A.N, I am aware that the main airport for Reykjavik is known as Keflavik. But for this story, I am going to refer to the airport as Reykjavik international or simply Reykjavik)
Jackob Admunsen showed the royal family and their entourage around the entirety of Reykjavik airport. It was quite difficult to do so since passengers from many airliners were using the airport terminals as a sort of bunk house. Sam and Dan weren't that interested by the airport, they had flown into Reykjavik Airport many times before. But Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, Sven and the royal guards were all amazed at the entirety of a modern airport. From the Check in Desks to an Icelandair 757 that was undergoing a C Check, it was all amazing to them.
It was also amazing to see the scale of the refugee crisis that Reykjavik airport was witnessing. Food was starting to run low and Fuel Supplies for the Airport's generators; ground vehicles and the many aircraft had almost completely run out. Even with the supplies that the Delta 747 and Quebec Echo had brought along.
"We have to do something" Sam said to his sisters, after stopping off at a rather nice Café and as all three were drinking some tea.
"I know that Sam. But we have to be careful about what we do next. The Councillors and Nobles will be reluctant to do anything that doesn't get something in return" Elsa replied.
"I know, but to think there are all these people that need our help. I mean, we could use all these aircraft as well as Quebec Echo, once we get the fuel supply sorted out, to do transportation work. That should be a good enough incentive" Sam said back to Elsa.
"True" The Icy Blonde Agreed.
"GUYS, GUYS. YOU'LL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT I FOUND!" Dan exclaimed as he sprinted across the terminal to them.
"What?" Anna asked with curiosity.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you" Dan replied.
"Intriguing" Sam thought aloud.
Sam, Elsa and Anna all got up from their chairs and followed Dan out of the Airport Terminal and across the vast expanse of tarmac to a hangar which looked in a very sad condition.
"you brought us to see a hangar. Really?" Sam said in a 'You can't be serious' tone of voice.
"It's not the hangar" Dan replied.
At that, Dan opened a small door built into the main hangar doors and gestured inside.
The Three Royal siblings cautiously moved inside, Elsa creating a glowing ball of ice to create some light in the dim hangar. At first they saw nothing of interest, until all three looked up. What they saw, took their collective breaths away.
"Is that?" Anna gasped.
"It is" Sam replied, in a similar state of shock to his sisters.
The reason for their shock? Well, inside the hangar, being gawked at by Anna, Elsa, Sam and Dan was…..
CONCORDE!
"It can't be!" Elsa gasped.
"somebody pinch me. I don't know if I am dreaming or not" Sam added.
Indeed, Sam was not dreaming and there was a Concorde standing there. The sweeping curves of the delta wings to the sharp point of the drooping nose. The aircraft was painted in a pristine white livery, almost as if it was brand spanking new. On the tail, the registration read G-BOAH.
As the three royals and Dan slowly moved around the graceful SST, taking in the fact that a Concorde had been in Reykjavik Airport all this time.
"I never knew that there was a Concorde here." Dan said to Sam and his sisters.
"I don't think anyone did. But this changes everything" Sam replied.
"How so?" Elsa asked.
"Think about it, all the things I told you about Concorde are true. If we could get her flying again, travel would be revolutionised. A flight from Arendelle to Agrabah could be cut from 7 ish hours to just 3 and a half!" Sam replied, excitement evident in his voice.
"Get it flying again. Are you nuts? Concorde is over 40 years old and it probably hasn't flown since 03! Who knows what condition the old girl is in" Dan exclaimed in surprise.
"This could be our bargaining chip. If Concorde could be restored, it could be chartered out for Merchants and Nobles for meetings and such which require speed to get to them" Elsa added.
"True. But still, the matter of restoring it will be a problem" Dan replied.
"First things first, we have to move this thing." Sam added.
"I'll deal with that" Elsa said back with a knowing smile.
Several minutes later
All eyes at Reykjavik Airport turned to see the unlikely sight being towed down one of the unclogged taxiways. The sight amazed them all, the sight of Concorde G-BOAH, being towed by a set of majestic Ice Horses, towards the main terminal. No-one had known that the SST had ever been there. Even those who had worked at the Airport for years.
Sam, Dan, Anna and Elsa each rode on one of the four ice horse, each of them trying not to get over excited at the thought they were towing a Concorde.
Airport tugs were fired up as staff raced to move several parked airliners out of the way.
Once the SST had been guided around several aircraft and parked near to an empty maintenance hangar, Anna, Elsa, Sam and Dan leapt off the ice horses and Elsa dissipated them with a flick of the wrist.
Lars came racing up towards them.
"What the devil?!" he exclaimed as he stared up at the Concorde parked in front of him.
"You sir, are looking up at Concorde. Fastest and best airliner in the world." Sam said proudly as he gestured to the sleek aircraft.
"I thought they were all destroyed!" Lars exclaimed.
"Nope" was all Sam said in reply.
"But what are we supposed to do with it?!" Captain Oaksworth added.
"We return it to flight" Elsa replied.
Everyone within earshot turned and stared at the Snow Queen.
"You what?" Lars asked in confusion.
"Think about it" Elsa began "if we can get Concorde back in the air. It'll make life better for everyone. Journey times will be shorter and everyone here will get a sense of pride knowing that the greatest airliner that has ever been built is back in the air where it belongs."
"You know that'll be almost impossible right? I mean, we don't have the necessary parts and technical documents to do a full restoration to flight of a plan that has been grounded close to 20 years!" Lars replied.
"We need it back. Something tells me we are going to need Concorde back in the air and soon" Sam said back to him.
Lars took a long moment to consider his answer carefully,
"Very well. I'll see what I can do to get Concorde into a hangar and a full restoration performed"
"Thank you. We are thankful for this" Elsa said to Lars with a gentle smile on her face.
