"You called?" Kyoya looked up from his laptop and nodded to the guard. Ran nimbly stepped inside and gently shut the door closed, soundless and efficient.
Kagome was nowhere to be found, most likely having another appointment with Ichiro that Kyoya might or might not have taken advantage of.
Ran hadn't even folded down to his knees when Kyoya immediately went straight to the point. "Where did Kagome come from?"
If he wasn't watching the blonde man like a hawk, he would've missed the minute tensing of his shoulders. Ran took his time getting comfortable, obviously mulling at the unexpected question from the youngest Ootori heir.
"Nowhere." He said. "Kagome came out from nowhere."
"Excuse me?"
Ran took a breath and met Kyoya's slate eyes with his dark hazels. "Did you not question it when nothing came up when you try looking for her in the system?"
Of course he did. But he also knew that his father has the ability to wipe a person off of the Japanese registry with a snap of a finger so he didn't much dwell on it. All his hypotheses point to either Kagome being an orphan or some sort of criminal child.
But now, his interest had been rekindled. Kagome's remark from their trip plucking at his inquisitive nature.
"That's because she was never in it." Ran nodded.
"Kagome is a ghost child. Aside from her name, she has nothing."
An uncomfortable churning erupted in Kyoya's gut.
"She fell through the cracks then."
Ran closed his eyes and sighed.
"She was thrown away."
