Seeing how Yelena was now, it was no wonder Skadi was worried. Living in Chernobog for years, Lin Ye understood where she was coming from. Being near a dying Infected was one of many ways for someone to get infected easily.
This was one of many reasons why Infected were feared by normal people. Even being near one could get a person infected.
Seeing the way an Infected dies, Lin Ye understands why people are afraid of becoming one.
When the Chernoborg authorities' attitude towards the Infected was not as severe as it is now, Lin Ye, who was still working at the pet hospital, often heard from guests talking about the bodies of the Infected crumbling into dust when they die. The worst part was that, when they die, their body literally becomes Originium, and is highly dangerous to be around it.
Some Infected, when they were about to die, exploded in a great blast of Originium, harming anyone that was unlucky enough to be near them.
Lin Ye was one of the unlucky ones.
He saw how dangerous an explosion from a dying infected was. It was like their body was made of gasoline and it was lit up by a flame.
Some people consider Infected as a ticking time bomb with a highly dangerous virus in them, with their timer ending when they die.
Seeing Yelena's condition, with the growing black crystal and the amount of energy that was released from her body, it would be a matter of seconds before her body would explode.
Even with the combined technology and medicines from both Rhine Lab and Rhodes Island, there was no way to reverse what was happening to her.
"Get out of here quickly," Gripping on his shoulder, Skadi tried to persuade him, "Let me take care of her."
He did not budge, staying beside her.
How could he leave her to die?
She was the first person that he met in this new world.
Seeing her like this, memories started to fly into his mind. The situation that he was in now, was so familiar to how he first met her.
Her dying and him trying to save her life.
He did not know why Yelena was here to begin with, but that did not matter. What did matter was how he was going to help her. Lin Ye moved his body nearer to her highly infected body.
Seeing what he was trying to do, Skadi frowned, "What are you doing?"
"What I need to do," Lin Ye's gaze never left Yelena, "I want to try something. Don't worry, I will leave as soon as I know nothing will change."
Skadi did not know what he was trying to do but the most important thing was for him to not be around this person any longer.
If her words wouldn't make him move, her action will.
Since he was not listening to her, the best thing she must do was to knock him out and carry him away from his place. However, before she could knock him out she saw him placing his hand on the woman's shoulder.
Something amazing happened.
What followed after this was the crystals on her body melted away immediately, making her stop her. Her eyes widened at the sight.
… Did he do it?
Seeing what was happening to her body a smile slowly blossomed on his face. He was glad that it was doing the same thing as before. He remembered doing something similar when he first met her. However, at that time Lin Ye did not know what Oripathy was. Now, he had a good grasp on what it was so this made him wonder, why was his touch melting away the frost and shrinking the crystals on her body?
… Not the time.
He immediately placed his head on her chest. He heard her heart beating however it was dangerously slow.
He moved closer to her face and talked to her.
"Can you hear me? " He said, "Yelena it's me. Can you hear me?"
Hearing him saying a name, Skadi raised a brow at him, "You know her?"
"Met her a long time ago," Hearing no reply from Yelena, he cursed, "...Damn it."
Lin Ye didn't know what to do now.
Other than this, he had no idea what to do. He could feel the Arts radiating from her body. Maybe if Mostima or even Eyja was here, they might have a better idea about handling this. Both he and Skadi knew next to nothing about Arts.
Was it really too late for her?
… No. There must be something he could do.
He just needed to think harder.
Maybe he should call someone for help.
He was even desperate enough to call Warfarin-.
…Wait… That's it!
Remembering something, he immediately acted.
He quickly dug through the pocket. When he felt something, he pulled it out and lifted it to his face.
Staring straight at his face was a cylinder-shaped capsule that had a red coloured liquid in it.
The first prototype of the L-Cell medicine. He almost forgot that he had it on him. Even since Warfarin gave this to him, it never left his jacket. He did not need to worry about it breaking in his pocket. From what Warfarin told him, this capsule was almost indestructible.
He remembered why Warfarin gave this to him in the first place. To find someone to test it on.
It looked like he found a candidate.
"What is that?" Noticing the capsule, Skadi asked him.
"The L-Cell medicine," He said, "The same one that I told you before."
Hearing this, her eyes widened. She was about to ask him something but was cut short by someone screaming.
"Big Sis! Big Sis! Where are you?!"
"Oh no you don't!"
The screams came from the entrance.
Remembering that Warfarin told that the medicine should be kept a secret by the world, he put it back into his pocket. He needed to go somewhere private.
Sow with care, he gently scooped Yelena into his arms and carried her. She was light and she was freezing. He pulled her closer to him to give her some warmth.
"I can't stay here anymore," Glancing at Skadi, Lin Ye said quickly, "I want to give her the drug but no one can see me use it."
"... I understand," Nodding at him, she said, "I will stop them.."
"Don't kill them!" Lin Ye warned her, "They might be with her. So don't kill them!"
Glancing back at him, she said calmly: "I just said, I stopped them. I won't kill them."
"... Okay," Realising that he was being hard on her, he apologized, "Sorry for making it sound like that."
"... Don't be," Slowly walking to the entrance, Skadi said, "You have a reason to save this woman, and I won't stop you. But I still want to remind you of something."
She turned her head and glanced at Lin Ye.
"You have a sword with you," She said, "End her suffering if you can't help her."
{Rhodes Island's Psychologist}
Rhodes Island, in one of the meeting halls, there was a group of high-ranking doctors internal meeting. They were discussing an incident that they were barely able to prevent.
One of them tried to drug no one but two people on the Island.
Although the name of the one responsible for almost drugging a fellow coworker was not said, everyone in the room had a good guess on who did it. They glanced at a certain vampire in the group.
Said vampire was preparing her excuse on why she did that and it was a bad idea for Kal'tsit to deduct her salary for doing this.
However, before she could defend herself, he heard her phone ring in her lab coat.
Under Kal'tsit glared, Warfarin was about to hang up the call but stopped when she saw who call her.
Lin Ye.
So with a heavy heart, she answered the call.
"Hello, Dr. Lin? Why are you call-?"
Before Warfarin could finish her question, her eyes widened at what she was hearing. H
"What did you say?!"
"Ahem," Coughing into her hand, Kal'tsit tried to get the vampire doctor's attention, "Dr. Warfarin, remembered why we are here. Please end your call-."
"Why did you wait this long to call me?! You hold on!" Practically jumping out from her chair, she left the meeting room. As she left the room, her screams slowly faded away, "Used your damned camera and showed me! I will teach you how to do it, I do not trust you using it!"
Within seconds, her voice disappeared from everyone's ears, leaving a room of confused doctors.
The sound of a mug shattering into pieces broke the silence.
"That woman…" With a broken mug beside her, Kal'tsit muttered, "I will have a word with her later. Privately."
