Chapter 2! four months later...
Didn't mean for it to be so long, life gets busy as hell. If you read the first chapter, I went ahead to rewrote it. I think it' much better than the first version!
If you're reading this far, I thank you for taking the time out of your day! if you have criticism, comments, please leave a review! I'm always looking to get better! Thank you again and have a good day!
Usually in near death experiences, one of the things people see is a bright light before they wake up. This time was a bit different as the light didnt go away, instead moving side to side as everything slowly came into view.
"You're awake, how 'bout that?"
Blinking a few times, I start sitting up in the bed, getting a clearer view of the room around me. A few beds similar to mine, some privacy curtains, and a man with what looked like cobbled together armor, a large scar on the right side of his face, and a large spear sitting in a nearby chair, wearing sleek black uniform underneath the armor.
"You probably shouldn't be moving around too much, at least until I can perform a proper examination." the doctor shook his head, putting the flashlight away.
I turn towards the man while rubbing my eyes. "Where…where am I?"
The doctor stood from his chair. "Well, What's the last thing you remember?"
"Uh well, I was on a cruise ship. Relaxing a bit." I rack my brain finding the information scarce, only getting little bits and pieces. "Then there was a storm. And my Dad…Dad! Have you seen my father? About five foot eleven? Black hair, orange glasses?"
This time, the scarred man spoke up from his chair. "Sorry kid, you were the only one we picked up."
I put my face in my hands and sighed, trying to hide the quickly building tears in front hese two men, but failing.
"Hey, just because you were the only one we found so far doesn't mean he won't turn up sometime. Maybe another village found him." The doctor reasoned with me. While the thought did make me feel a bit better, I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing. I wiped the tears from my eyes and took a breath to calm myself down. "Okay, but where am I? And what's with the antlers?"
"Well, you're on the island of menagerie. Specifically Kao Kuana." The doctor sat back down while pulling out a stethoscope and pressing it against my chest.
"That sounds familiar, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't on one of the stops…" I rack my brain again, all of my memories seemingly scrambled from the prior events.
The doctor took off the stethoscope and wrote a few things down on a medical chart nearby. "What was your next stop then?"
"Heading over to Louisiana for a day. I was excited to try some gator and crawfish with the family." I let out a small chuckle while shaking my head.
The doctor and the armored man gave each other a look before turning back to me. "Florida? Is that in Vacuo? Doesn't really sound familiar to me. Saber?"
The armored man shook his own head. "Never heard of any 'Louisiana'."
Vacuo? Menagerie? Nah… couldn't be…
"Either way, we found this floating nearby. Didn't go digging around in it." Saber handed over a small faded orange bag.
My carry on! I used this bag to carry just about all of my electronics when going around the ship! As I unzipped it, I couldn't help but frown a bit. A busted iPhone 7, waterlogged charger, Wallet, and my...oh come the fuck on!
"Of course it's my stupid lanyard for my cabin access card…" I sighed a bit as I opened up a few more zippers, but not finding anything else in the bag. No pocket knife, no money, not even in my wallet.
Tossing the covers of the bed aside, I start to stand up, much to the doctor's surprise. "Sure you wanna stand up so soon? You've been in bed for about three days."
"I'm fine, just need to stretch." A clear lie told by me as I hobbled my way to the door and opened it.
Multiple half animal people were walking around. Some with horns, others had some sort of scales on their arms. Some carrying baskets of exotic fruits and others with fish, plenty of houses were strewn about, some with thatch roofs and other with wood boards.
Admittedly it took me a minute to fully process what I was seeing, but after it had finally registered, I was still in disbelief. "Did I get fucking isekai'd? What the hell…"
This got a few people's attention, glancing at me. A couple frowned and shook their heads before walking away, disgusted.
"The hell was that about?" I turn to find the armored man Saber standing behind me.
"Well, you're the first human here in a few years. A lot of faunus here don't think too highly of humans."
Great. Racism. "Well where do you stand on the issue?"
"I'm indifferent. Humans haven't wronged me personally but I'm not exactly gonna fight on their behalf."
"Gee, thanks" I roll my eyes before looking back to the village. People here have animal features on their body… vacuo… oh you've gotta be fucking kidding me!
I DID get isekai'd! How the fuck does this even happen! Though I could be in a sort of hallucination… No. The pain I'm feeling in my legs is real. Even if I AM in some internet show, where am I in the timeline? Before or after season two? And what the hell is a Menagerie?!
"Uh,you alright there kid? You're spacing out a bit." This Saber guy snapped me out of my inner thoughts. Probably best I save all that for later. "Yea, I'm fine.
Does this place have some kind of inn or rooms for rent?"
"I think the Bar owner may have a spare room. Probably your best bet." He explained before the doctor broke the conversation.
"I understand you're a bit far from home sir, but I've still got a few questions for you." He had a clipboard in his hands as he sat in his swivel chair. "And thank you Saber, you can head back to Ghira."
"Of course, take care, Doctor Cinna." Saber gave a slight bow before grabbing his spear and leaving the office.
"I honestly wouldn't take his words too harshly. His father fought on the frontlines of the great war." he shook his head, pushing a chair over to me. 'Alright, let's start with your name."
My name. I don't think it would really be considered normal by post great war standards…wait…Where exactly am I in the canon of the show? Am I even in some show? A question for later but for now, I have to think of some sort of name so I don't sound like a loon. And I think everyone has some sort of color name….
Well, I guess it's not the most original name, but it'll work for the time being.
"Midas" I answer with a strong exhale.
"Alright…Is midas the first or last name?"
Damnit! Didn't think about that! Now I gotta think about another name that's either gold or yellow related…Apollo? Nah thats fuckin' lame. Goldenrod? Not bad! A bit long for a first name though.
"Last. First is Goldenrod, but I just go by Midas."
Thank you Pokémon heart gold!
"Alright then, Current residence?"
Fuck, this is harder than I thought. I'd never pass as a secret agent, needing to think quickly and on the fly is not exactly my strong suit. Midas is kind of a snobbish name, right? And where do all the rich assholes live?
"A town by atlas, Mantle." I don't know any street names, no specific locations nearby, no address. Shit.
"Alright there Mr. Midas… You seem to be in good shape and you can head out. Usually I'd have to charge for the care I gave you, but since you're kinda stranded here I'll cut you some slack. I'll just take a hundred lien whenever you can get it to me. Alright?"
Talk about a lucky break! "Well thank you Doctor…" I couldn't remember his name. I am a horrible patient.
"Cinnamon. But you can just call me Cinna." He quickly filled in the blank for me.
"Well thank you Doctor Cinna." I nod, giving a firm handshake. "A hundred lien, you got it."
And with that, I walked out the door to the eyes of annoyed or disgruntled faunus. This was gonna be a long day…
