Itadakimasu!

Nathan said happily with a bow his hands clasped together in a prayer sign once done he opened his eye's. He turns to look to Sora sat on his left side. "Did I get it right this time? That's how you say it right?" He asked while without looking reached for the chopsticks he was given. Sora was a young boy about the same age maybe a little older than Nathan was. Sora had straight shoulder-length, dull blackish-grey hair done in an asymmetrical style with a single lock of hair falling into his face, his eye's where brown in color. For his clothes Sora wore sandals and a standard monk uniform with short sleeves showing that he was from the local temple just little ways out of the city.

Sora nodded to Nathan. "Yes that's right, you got it" Sora then took notice how Nathan picked up and held the chopsticks that where given to him and was a little surprised at how well Nathan started to use them to eat the ramen placed before him. "and it seems that you've picked up how to use chopsticks to eat as well. I would have thought you'd have ask for a fork instead, but yet here you are using chopsticks better than any visiting foreigner ever has on your first try." Nathan pauses mid eat his looking to Sora in silent acknowledgement of his comment before he finished his food then spoke.

"Well..yeah, i've seen you do it enough times. I guess I just learn through observing." Sora accepted his answer but still shared his thoughts "Even so it takes those who are not accustomed to them a few minutes before they can pick up food with because they aren't use to it." Nathan turned his attention to the chef. "Excuse me sir another bowl please." The chef nodded and in no time brought out a second bowl. "You finished your ramen already? It was a big bowl and your getting another one?" Sora said surprised once again then looked and saw for himself that Nathan had indeed finished the first one while he himself hadn't even ate more than half of his.

Nathan shrugged "What can I say this Ramen stuff is good." He said as if wasn't a big deal despite it having only been 5 minutes since he was served the first bowl. "What kind of ramen did you say this was again?" He asked Sora before he started eating the contents of the second bowl. "It's miso ramen." He replied before he too went on to eat his serving.

"Ah." Nathan sighed in satisfactory and eye's closed taking in the sense of peace as he and Sora walked through the town. "That was great stuff wish we had some of that back home, i'm definitely going to go back there again when I get my next allowance." Sora shook his head as he chuckled. "I still can't believe you ate three large bowels of ramen. You my friend must have a big stomach." Nathan shrugged and replied. "What can I say, the food was good and I was just really hungry."

Sora looked at Nathan carefully for a second as if he contemplating something before he decided to ask a question that's been on his mind for months. "So how are you feeling? You know since you last came here? I was worried and so were the elder's. You woke up after being unconscious for several day's and just left abruptly without a word, then after a week of silence you tells that your okay. Now your here visiting again a few months later? Not that I mind but what's going on exactly?" by the end of his little interrogation Sora took a second to catch his breath while waiting for an answer.

Nathan stopped walking still facing away from his friend so Sora couldn't his eye's still closed, but no longer smiling as he thought back to the incident that Sora brought up. His face now held a more sobering look. The memories of that time played in his mind before he opened his eyes and turned to Sora. "Yeah i'm sorry about that I..it..it's just that after I woke up I just need to go some place I felt most comfortable. Despite taking care of the problem your temple had been facing I..I..cou..I couldn't save.." A tear fell from his eyes Nathan tilted his head down not wanting anyone to see him cry. Sora understood and felt guilty seeing as he was partially responsible for his friend's current state. The elders told him not to get other's involved but nothing they had tried was working and before they decided to a more direct approach Sora had already asked Nathan, someone who until recently never knew just what kind of reality they were actually living in.

Sora broke away from these thoughts now was not the time to dwell on his mistakes, his friend needed support. "Nathan no one, holds you responsible for what happened. What happened to Seto..what happened to him would have happened to who knows how many more before the elder monks could take action. Our situation had been going on for a week before I looked to you for help and we had already lost three other's before then. We didn't even know where to find it but you found that cave in one night and stopped it from causing any further harm. You may not have been able to save Seto but saved dozens more from suffering the same fate." Sora pulled Nathan into a brief hug before letting go. "You may not think it but your a hero."

"I bet Chad could've done it better." Nathan thought for a moment before wiping his eyes, then looking up and smiled thanking Sora for his kind words. "I appreciate it Sora really." Sora smiled happy he managed to make his friend somewhat better but knew he needed to find something to take their minds off of the painful subject. Then he notice something a string around Nathan's neck almost completely hidden by his shirt. "Hey Nathan what's that you have around your neck?"

Nathan was confused by what Sora meant. "Around my neck?" he repeated as he felt around his neck just above where the string was. "Yeah this" Sora said reach out and pulling the string up to reveal the yin half of the yin yang sign. "Oh that's on half of the necklace I bought here for Rachel for her birthday sometime ago, the vendor guy said that the necklace is for a special bond between two people or something thought she'd like it. The necklace was actually one that can be separated into two Rachel has one half and I have this one. For a second Sora face faulted for a minute at Nathans cluelessness, despite being so young Sora had a pretty good idea the kind of 'bond' this vendor man meant. Looking upon it closer Sora noticed the yin ornament had a split on the side with a magnet at the canter and so using his thumb pushed against it, this action caused the ornament to open revealing it to be a lockect and inside it was a picture of a blonde haired girl 'Rachel' he assumed.

Sora couldn't help but grin seeing this and couldn't help but wonder if the girl knew the true meaning and intention of this kind of necklace or if she was just as clueless about it as Nathan. Regardless this was something he could use to put their previous conversation to the back of their minds. "Sooo..this Rachel girl. She's pretty special to you right?" Nathan nods and responded. "Yeah she's the best she's my first and oldest friend. My mom said that we've been together our entire lives, whenever mom and dad had to work Rachel's mom would watch over Chad and me. Besides our families no one knows us better than each other." Nathan said happily with a bright smile not noticing Sora's grin getting bigger.

"So you really like her right?" Sora said with a slight mirth in his tone. Nathan seemed confused by his friends question and without hesitation replied. "Well yeah of course I like her. Shes my best friend why wouldn't I?" Sora laughed much to Nathan's confusion. "Whats so funny?" Once his laughing fit ceased Sora shook his head and said. "It's nothing don't worry about it. Now follow me I have something to show you it's on the way to the temple with a small change in direction, come we'll go there before going back." Sora said as he and Nathan traveled up a mountain path not knowing that high above them were a pair of adults flying after a ship high in the clouds at a great big pace.

"Wow, what is this place?" Nathan asked as he gazed at the sight before him from a small bridge, the spot provided a view of a field full of scattered trees some looked bare while others had white and pink petals at their top. "This is a Cherry blossom mountain path park. It's a small project that some of the monks at the temple made from there hobby of gardening. The monks at the temple would first grow and raise the tree's indoor's at the temple until they decide they're big enough to continue to grow on their own out here. It's something we do to give back to the environment." Sora explained while he too took in the beauty of the sight before him, never once has the sight ever lost it's attraction to him or the native people no matter how daily this view was for them.

While enjoying scenery before him Nathan noticed movement from his left far in the field. "Hey Sora do you see that? Out by those tree's by the river over there." Nathan said while pointing to what he was seeing. Sora's gaze followed to where Nathan was pointing and saw a young man with dark hair in a ponytail style wearing the same robes as the temple residence practicing stances with a bokken. "Oh that, thats just one of the temple monks." Nathan continued to watch as the man practice with intrigue. "What exactly is he doing?"

"He's practicing kenjutsu from the looks of it." Sora answered. Together they watched the man go through the motions until the man stopped and out away the bokken and started to make his way towards the temple. Both Nathan and Sora were confused until Sora looked up to the sky and saw that it was getting dark Nathan too began to notice and panicked. "Ah crude it's late! Mom is going to kill me for being out so late. Man what am I going to do?"

"You could say that you wanted to spend the night. No one at the temple will mind we do have rooms for visiting travelers. We could even set up an extra mat in my room if you rather play a few games I got there." Sora offered. Nathan thought it over and agreed better to play it off as simply forgetting to ask to stay at a friends home than to be in trouble for being out so late passed curfew even when it's summer.

"Right, just let me get into contact first i'll be with you shortly." Nathan said then pulled out a communicator and walked a short distance away for privacy.

After managing to get in contact with his parents and avoiding any punishment through a stroke of luck thanks to time zone difference Nathan and Sora made their trek up the mountain until finally arriving to the temple. Seeing the temple gate Sora looked back to Nathan "We made it." he announced to which Nathan exhaled tiredly and mumbled "Finally.."

As they approached the entrance a man in monk robes with graying black hair, brown eye's with a small scar going over the right eye greets them. "Konbanwa Sora-san, Nathan-san." Sora bows his head slightly while gesturing to Nathan to do the same to which he did before Sora replies. " O! Konbanwa Masaru-san." The now named Masaru side steps so to let both boys to walk in before shutting the gate behind them. "Sora-san, Nathan-san!" Masaru calls out before both boys could get any further. Turning around and looking back Sora respond's. "Hai, Masaru-san nandesuka?"

"I wish to ask if you had seen anyone else from the temple on your way here before I lock the gate." Masaru answered as he held the gate shut with one hand while the other held a key in the lock mechanism. Sora pondered for a moment "No Masaru-san, there was no one behind us when we came up." Nathan spoke up next "Oh, however we did come across a member of the temple practicing out in the park on the way here. They were practicing with a wooden sword they had black hair tied up in a long ponytail. Did someone like that come by here?"

"Oh, I see.." Masaru says with a thoughtful look then realization hits him. "Ah, you must mean young Hyakkimaru." Sora looked surprised by this and exclaimed. "Wait that was the Hyakkimaru?! I've heard of him but never seen him around." Sora turned to Nathan who looked lost on what was the big deal about this person. Sora without having to be asked explained to him how A young man and his kid sister were taken in by the temple, they and a few others would often times go out and take care of problems that modern day people had forgotten about and thankfully don't come into contact with as often as the past. Nathan stood silently mulling over the this fact and the young man's name.

"He-ya...Hyaki...Hyakkimaru?." Nathan pronounced quietly as he went deep in thought. His train of thought was short lived however as Sora pulled him along towards one of the buildings around the temple. Come the temples lodgings are this way."

"This is here is my room you can stay with me here for the night, i'll go and bring and extra futon and blanket for you." With that Sora left leaving Nathan to take an opportunity to look around the room. The room was a typical tatami set up with few personal belongings decorating the room, a dresser, a futon with cushions on the floor and a sliding door that led in and out of the room. After a little time later Sora returned with the extra bedding.

Later that night while most were asleep peacefully Nathan however was having a different experience. Tossing and turning in his sleep Nathan began to have a re-experience of the night that changed his perception of the world.

*Dream/Memory*

The forest was dark Nathan's only source of light was the moon and the over head light on his phlazer. Nathan continued to follow the trail of odd foot markings he had found that led to a cave just a few miles away from the temple. "Come on you can do this no problem." Nathan said psyching himself up as he continued to venture in the cave going deeper and deeper into the darkness. His over head light now becoming his only aid to see where he was going.

As he continued in his search moving further in the cave a number of tunnel paths came into view. "Whoa.." Nathan said perplexed by the many different ways he had to choose from. The path ways ranged from different ways two ways on the right, one in front, two on the left with one going up and and another one that went downwards.

Not sure which to go rather than go in a random direction Nathan walked up to each and used his hearing to listen for any sound starting to the right to the left. Listening carefully it wasn't until he approached the one going down that he heard any kind of commotion. Taking a breath to calm himself Nathan pushed forward and worked his way deeper and would come across a few more inter pathways before finally coming to a dark chamber and a horrifying sound chomping and wet sickening tearing and popping sounds echoed in it.

Despite the primal instincts that kept telling him to run Nathan shined his light across the area the sounds becoming louder and louder as he went in. Before finally the light shone upon the very pale face of a boy named Seto who he met briefly and went missing from the temple earlier that evening. His face white as paper, eyes were wide and mouth open as if letting out a silent scream his body moved slightly moving back and forth from where he laid. Moving the light up slightly a hunched figure in monk robes loomed over the boy.

Nathan vomited up bile as soon as he saw it. The hunched being was tearing and eating around Seto's stomach, organs, blood and intestines strewn across the ground this thing this monster kept eating and chewing not bothered by the sudden light shining on it until suddenly after a moment it stopped and sat there quietly for a few tense seconds then it started to let out a low beastly growl. Nathan backed away shaking fear gripped his heart as the growl became louder by the second and slowly the monster turned its head away from Seto's cold corpse and looked upon Nathan. Its now horrid face clear for Nathan to see it's hideous face, long pointed nose, large mouth and sharp teeth all covered in Seto's blood. But what really scared him oddly enough was the eyes and the look they held.

Nathan didn't know when he did but soon he realized that at some point he had turned and had actually started running away while looking back and light pointed behind so he could still see where the monster was. At the same time he realized he was actually running the monster broke into a sprint towards him. Now fearing himself getting caught Nathan looked forward his light pointing straight a head to see where he was going. The monster he could hear was getting closer it's bellowing growl getting louder as it grew closer. Pushing his small body to run faster than he ever had before Nathan desperately tried to get away, in his state of panic and fear he failed to realize that he went down a wrong turn.

Nathan looked back his phlazer and its light pointed down towards the tunnel, there was nothing? "Did I lose it?" Nathan wondered with hope but his thoughts were interrupted by a deep voice. "DODGE! MOVE TO THE LEFT BOY!" "Wha?..AAAH!" Nathan screamed in shock moving left just as he was told narrowingly avoiding a slash from the monsters clawed hands. "MOVE BACK! QUICKLY!" There it was again. Nathan did as told but this time he was not able to completely avoid the attack.

PAIN.

That's all Nathan felt after getting hit his weapon fell to the ground and his body was sent flying towards the tunnel wall. BAM! Nathan slumped to the ground holding his stomach tightly in pain. His back hurt but his stomach hurt worse "Why is my shirt damp?" Thanks to the phlazer's illuminated side pointing at him Nathan could see around him but he could also see that his right hand that had been pressed to his stomach was covered in blood. His blood! Looking down towards his stomach where he still felt great pain Nathan saw a deep cut going across his stomach where blood was flowing out the warm red fluid of life was spilling out. Nathan could feel himself going numb his vision blurred slightly.

He was going into shock. Fast as he could Nathan pressed his right hand and arm against the wound. *Growl* Nathan looked up and saw the monster stalking towards him. Time seemed to slow fear and helplessness filled his heart and his thoughts went to his closes loved ones. "Mom, Dad, Chad, Rachel. I-I..Please someone anyone I don't want to die." Nathan thought tearfully.

"Get up! "Huh?" Nathan despite his current situation looked around momentarily forgetting about the monster moving closer. "Who's there?" "Get UP! There's no time to worry about that right now. Get up and grab that staff on your right laying behind your head right now!" suddenly a warmth spread across his body the pained lessened a enough and Nathan tried and struggled to move.

Slowly but surely he sat up and saw beside him a broken and discarded bo-staff mad of some kind of metal. "Stop gawking and start hitting. Now! Grab with your left and swing!" Doing as he was told Nathan as quick as he could reached with his left hand grabbing the broken staff and smacked it across the monsters face than swung down slamming the creatures head to the ground with surprising strength before bringing the staff up he swung it down again on it's head once more with even greater force. The force of the third blow shattered the already broken staff into pieces.

Nathan looked as the monster lay still seeing the damage he done. "Whoa." "This is no time to be impressed. Get up and get moving!" Nathan moved as quick as he could his right arm pressed against his stomach and a slight limp in his step. Nathan made his way over and grabbed his weapon and started making his way back to where he made the wrong turn.

Nathan continued to toss and turn not once did he or Sora woke up not even as Nathan's body started to glow a dark shade of orange and a shroud of energy engulfed him.

Reaching the turning point Nathan ran through the dark maze like cave. The terror that filled his heart slowly returning when he started to once more hear the beast's roar. Nathan was beyond terrified by what he had come into contact with but he pushed on he did not want to meet the same fate as Seto. The sight he came upon had chilled him to the bone. He had to get out of this cave and back out into the forest and make his way back to the temple if he was going to make it out of this alive. Using his phlazer's over head light to help navigate through the dark cave, he did his best to ignore the pain and retrace his steps. Doing all this while trying to keeping from passing out and dying is not easy.

Y"* click*

Startled Nathan whirled around to see where the sound originated only to see from the shine of his light were nothing but small rocks tumbling down on to the ground. Seeing no danger he release a breath he had been holding, relief filled his heart until...*GRRrrrr* Nathan's eyes widen in terror at the second he heard that deep beastly growl. Slowly and shakily he rose the light in the direction of the origin the sound came from until the light caught the haunting pale yellow eyes of the monster hidden in the shadows.

The moment the light shined on those eyes the monster crawled out of the darkness standing on all fours, sharp claws still stained with either his blood, Seto's or both it didn't matter. The monster leapt towards him, it's claws stretched out ready to sink into him. Nathan was once more struck paralyzed with fear and screamed scream.

"AAAH!"

"TUCK AND ROLL!" Nathan again felt a rush of warmth spread across his body canceling the paralyzing fear that struck him and did as instructed. Quickly he dropped down and rolled forward like a ball as fast as he could, escaping the monster's attack. After he stopped rolling Nathan took aim at the monster and fired but only using one arm to aim and shoot made it difficult to hit his mark. Each ray bast came close but missed the monster but as it got closer while trying to avoid the beams it would get hit once or twice causing it to bellow in pain and anger.

Eventually though the Beast got close enough to reach him and swiped away the weapon lightly clawing his arm in the process. Now without his weapon or light to see Nathan felt helpless and could only think to crawl back away from the beast. "What more can I do?" Nathan wondered and continued to crawl back with every step he heard the monster make. "The Sword, grab the sword behind you."

"A sword?" Nathan wondered as he felt around him and touched what he assumed was the swords hilt and grabbed it. Nathan didn't understand why but once he held it and odd sensation shot through him and warmth spread through his body not unlike the last few times but different like comparing a heat from a burning forest fire to a small flame. To his surprise the sword in his hands was starting to become more visible he could see its shape and..a small shimmer of light?

"Not enough, try this." At these words the sword began to glow brighter in a burnt orange hue that began to even brighten up the cave."Whoa...cool" Nathan said with astonishment, before reality set in again and he realized the monster was moving faster until it was almost upon him. "NOW! STRIKE IT NOW!"

Nathan did as the voice instructed and lurched forward with greater speed than he should posses and impaled the sword right in the monsters face, the monster moved back trying to grab and remove the blade. But as it tried it's clawed hands sizzled and burned away causing it to let loses a pain filled and dying howl then burst into a black fog like shape that flew at Nathan. As it made contact everything became dark.

The dark orange shroud grew bigger and the pressure in the room increased. But still neither boy was awoken, however this time the event that was happening did not go unnoticed when the sliding door to the room opened ever so slowly. Opening enough to allow a single eye to see into and widen in shock but took no action and instead chose to continue to observe the phenomenon and see what happens first.

Nathan wondered aimlessly in the dark confused "Where am I?" He wondered trying his hardest to find some kind of surface. So far he knew he had been dreaming about his experience in the cave but this was not it.

"Not yet."

Nathan whirled around "Huh? That voice. It's you again. Who or what are you? Show yourself." Nathan demanded weakly.

"You are not yet ready."

"Ready? Ready for what?" Nathan asked.

*rumbling growl* "Grrrrrrrrr"

Nathan looked all around him until finally he came face to face with a giant pair of red slitted eyes.

The pressure and power from the shroud of energy increased until finally it reached a limit and dispersed violently sending a shock wave through the air. This shock wave resonated around the world creating strong burst of rushing air that weakened in strength after several miles but the feeling of the power remained. The output of power rang out catching the attention of everything supernatural and all connected, but also gave clear warning to steer clear.

In the hidden world connected to forests

A secret land of elfs and pixies that had gone into hiding from humans lived peacefully content with living their lives as they had the last 3000 years. Until a feeling of power echoed through the air causing all to shiver and many to faint from the weight it held.

An elfen soldier rushes into a throne room and kneels "Lord Calen! That feeling in the air! The people!"

"I know." Calen an elf man with long straight forest green hair wearing humble yet high in quality robes said as he got up from his chair seemingly looking up at nothing when really he tried to sense where the source of this great and terrifying power came from and wondered if it was a threat.

Yokai pocket lands hidden around shrines of Inari

A young girl with golden hair and eyes in a miko dress and five waving foxes tails looked around suddenly. Feeling both curious and scared by the powerful yet familiar power that echoed throughout the sky.

"Mother!" The girl cried out in fright.

A young woman with long blonde hair and matching eyes came rushing into view looking both alert and distressed with nine long flowing tails poking out the back of her dress. "Kunou! Come here quickly!" She called out before the young girl came rushing into the woman's arms. The woman held her daughter tightly while looking around for any danger.

Back in Virginia

McKenzie residence

A sleeping Rachel rolled around in her bed in minor discomfort before bringing up a hand to the yang charm of her necklace and relaxes letting out a tired yawn and utters a name. "..Na..th..an."

Dickson residence

The sleeping form of one Chad Dickson rests peacefully unaware of a similar shroud of energy as the one that surrounded his brother now surrounds him.

Back at the Temple

In the elder council chambers a middle aged monk walks in. "Elders its the boy young Sora has befriended. He is showing the sign's that were prophesied. What shall we go from here?"

Three elderly monks looked to one another seemingly in a silent conversation then nodded. Then one spoke up "For now we do nothing but give aid to him when requested in his pursuits, it is too soon to try and lead the boy to the path that was foretold we still need the other. Inform the others of this."

"Yes elders, I shall do as you ask."
