Chapter 3

Naruto sighed in exhaustion as he walked on the stone road that led to the City of Whiterun. He had left Riverwood a week back and had made it roughly just over halfway to the city. He had taken enough supplies to last him the two-week journey from Riverwood to the city. He had camped out near the main roads during his journey. Being born to a Nord father who was very strict in teaching him the ancient customs of his people and how to survive any situation, teaching everything from how to fight to how to survive in the wilderness with nothing but scraps. He had survived in harsh conditions before, and during his trip to Skyrim had often had to camp outside when there wasn't a settlement nearby.

During his one-week journey, he had come across a few small villages that still had decent-sized populations, while not as big as the large town of Riverwood. It seemed the war had not touched Whiterun as much as the other Holds, which made sense to him as, during his conversations with Gerdur and Ralof, he had learned that the Jarl of Whiterun had chosen to remain Neutral.

He gazed around at the scenery around him. The landscape of Whiterun consisted of wide-open plains and large fields perfect for farming. His thoughts turned towards the Obsidian black scaled dragon that had attacked Helgen. He had been raised on the stories of ancient Nord heroes and the legends of how many had fought Dragons in the past. The Dragons had not been seen for Centuries, with one of the last dragons being Tiber Septim's own personal dragon Nafaalilargus, A large red-scaled dragon that had served the then founder of the Septim dynasty.

'A red-scaled Dragon? I don't remember hearing or reading its description before' Naruto thought. He wondered where that had come from. He certainly didn't remember ever learning a description of the legendary Emperor's dragon before. His mind had been a bit scrambled ever since he had those visions. Shaking his head and getting himself together, the blonde found an open spot to camp for the night and unfurled his supplies to rest.

It had taken him two weeks, but the blonde had finally made it to the outskirts of the city of Whiterun. The city was surrounded by vast open fields, and various farms were dotted around the landscape around the outside of the city. In the vast open fields not used for farming, he could see herds upon herds of horses running around in fenced-up fields. He could also see various buildings and houses that surrendered the city. Some of the buildings were large farms and houses, while others were breweries and other assortments of shops.

Atop the large hill stood the massive city of Whiterun. Even from here, he could make out the large and sprawling buildings of its many districts, and sat atop right at the hill piercing the sky was the Palace of Dragonsreach. The massive tower built at the center of the palace pierced the sky and looked to reach the clouds themselves. The blonde stopped admiring the city and continued on his way down the road towards the city.

The blonde made his way down the cobbled stone road, passing by the many farms and buildings around the outside of the city. As he got closer to the city, he heard the sounds of fighting nearby. The blonde followed the sounds to where they were coming from and came across an ensuing fight taking place between three individuals and a giant. The giant towered over the three individuals standing at a monstrous height of 12 feet.

As he got closer, Naruto could make out the three individuals fighting the giant much better. The first was a tall Nord man standing at around 6'2 with long black hair that fell to his shoulders. He had strong facial features that indicated his Nord heritage and the build of a strong warrior typically found in the harsh land of Skyrim. He was wearing a heavy set of what looked to be steel plate armour with a wolf motif, but this armour looked a lot more intricate than any other steel armour that he had seen before. If the blonde assumption was correct in his mind, then it was most likely Skyforge Steel. This legendary steel was created by the Skyforge located inside the city of Whiterun next to the companion's hall of Jorrvaskr.

The following figure was a beautiful young Imperial woman with long black hair that was tied into a ponytail. She was wearing a set of hide leather armour that covered her voluptuous figure. She possessed a womanly warrior figure with large buxom breasts and thick thighs that showed the training that she had been through. In her hand, she had a large steel round shield with a steel sword.

The final figure was a beautiful Nord woman that looked to be in her mid-twenties with red auburn hair. Her hair was long and went down to the middle of her back, with part of it draped over her shoulder. She was wearing a rather revealing light brown leather tunic with a split down the center. Her shoulders and wrists were covered in steel etched armour and also covered the sides of her thighs. She was standing at the height of 5'7, and she had a lithe curvaceous figure with medium-sized breasts and a well-defined figure that was built for speed. However, the blonde noticed she possessed a more mature lower figure with thick seductive hips that were hugged tightly by her armour.

Before he could look any further, he saw the giant raise the massive club in its hand and smash it on the ground causing the ground around them to shake and the three figures fighting it to stagger to the ground. The black-haired woman fell to the ground in front of the giant. The giant raised its club again, intending to smash her into several pieces. Naruto quickly pulled his bow from his back and notched an arrow into it. Quickly aiming for the giant's eyes, he loosed the arrow, causing it to fly through the air at incredible speeds and impact the giant in the eye. The giant roared in pain and halted his attack, taking a few steps backward as it staggered and held its injured and bleeding eye with its unoccupied hand.

The three fighters had recovered by now and continued their attack on the giant, the Nord man wielding the large greatsword sliced down at the giant's knee, cutting straight through it. The redhead archer loosed several arrows from her bow, hitting the giant in several of its weak points. The giant lurched backward and collapsed onto its back, causing a massive quake to rumble around the area as it collapsed onto its back and took its last breath.

Naruto stowed his bow and approached the group as they were getting themselves together and discussing the giant's defeat. As Naruto got closer, he could hear exactly what they were talking about.

"You need to be more careful, Ria. Don't stand directly in front of an opponent like that, attack from the sides and keep moving around the opponent, especially if they have superior strength." The redhead archer told her younger female companion.

"Ah, sorry, Aela. I'll make sure to do that next time. Thanks for the advice," The now named Ria replied back to Aela.

"Good, I'll see to it that we go through some more training for you when we get back to Jorrvaskr, though you should also thank the stranger that saved you," Aela said as she turned towards Naruto, who was approaching the group.

Aela gazed at the stranger that had helped them with slaying the giant and had saved her companion. He was a handsome man with a fair complexion and possessed bright azure blue eyes that reminded Aela of the thunderstorms summoned with the power of the voice by the ancient Nord warriors often told in the old stories. He had bright spiky blonde hair that looked groomed and well kept. The most noticeable thing about the blonde, though, was his height. He stood at a towering height of 6 '4, and even underneath all that armour, she could see he had a muscular build that showed he was a hardened warrior that had built his whole body into a fighting machine.

"Hail stranger, thank you for the help with slaying the giant and for saving our companion," Aela said and stretched her hand out in a friendly manner. Naruto grasped the redhead's hand and shook it firmly. Aela's guess of the blonde being strong was confirmed as the blonde gave her a firm handshake.

"It was nothing. I've never shied away from a fight, and it would harm my honor as a warrior if I didn't help you." The blonde told the redhead. Aela smiled at the blonde's words, happy to see that he possessed a warrior's honor and spirit.

"That was a good shot back there. You might give Aela here a run for her money when it comes to archery," Naruto heard the male of the group say. "The name is Farkas, by the way."

"I'm Ria. Thank you for saving me back there,``said Ria.

"Naruto of Kvatch, and it was nothing. I was just helping out." Naruto said to the Nord. Aela raised a brow in interest at that.

"Kvatch? You've come quite a ways to Skyrim. Not many would abandon the comfortable life of Cyrodiil to come to a war-torn land," The red-haired huntress stated to the blonde.

"I have my personal reasons for coming to Skyrim besides there is opportunity in war," Naruto said to the huntress cryptically. Aela nodded and smiled at the blonde, respecting his decision to keep his secrets to himself. Besides, she had heard of many who were coming to Skyrim to be hired as Mercenaries for both sides of the civil war.

"So, what brings you out to Whiterun?" Farkas asked the blonde as the group of four now started to make their way towards the city, with it being their mutual destination

"I am coming from Riverwood, there was a Dragon attack on Helgen, and with Riverwood being so close, it's defenseless against the Dragon if it decides to attack," The blonde said to the three warriors.

"A Dragon?! That's crazy. They haven't been seen for centuries. How can you be sure that's true?!" Ria said to the blonde, looking at him as if he had gone mad.

"It's true. I was there in Helgen when it happened. I managed to escape, but many weren't as lucky," The blonde stated in a somber tone. The attack had affected the blonde emotionally as he had felt powerless, unable to save anyone but save himself from the destruction that had been wrought that day.

"May Kyne lift them to Sovngarde, but you shouldn't feel bad. The gods surely have something planned for you," Aela said. The blonde simply nodded his head and gazed up at the sky, watching the clouds pass up ahead. He should be thankful that the dragon had shown up when it did, but he couldn't help the feeling in his gut that maybe it wasn't the last time he would see that dragon again.

"The Old stories have said the dragons would one day return and bring about the end times," Aela said. "It's said only the last Dragonborn is able to stop them."

"Well, whoever that person is, let's hope they can stop them," The blonde said

"You seem to have quite the knowledge of the old stories and legends?" The blonde asked the huntress, raising a brow at the amount of knowledge she had.

"We have to be, as one of the Companions, we are the inheritors of Ysgramor's legacy, and it's our duty to carry on his legacy." The red-haired huntress said passionately to the blonde. Naruto stopped suddenly and looked at the three who turned back to him, wondering why he had stopped walking.

"You're companions?" The blonde asked, wanting to confirm what he had heard. The three companions nodded at the blonde, still wondering why he had stopped.

"Well, I guess fate might just exist. After all, you're one of the reasons I came to Skyrim," The blonde stated to the three companions.

"We're always welcome to have more warriors at Jorrvaskr," Farkas said as he patted the taller blonde on the shoulder. They continued on their way toward the city. As they continued walking toward the city, Naruto took in the surroundings of the city. The city had large towers and high castle walls with battlements situated around the walls with guards patrolling the walls and battlements.

As they approached the city's gates, one of the guards stepped forward and approached the group.

"Hail Companions, I see that you have come back. I'm guessing the giant has been taken care of," the guard asked.

"Yes, the giant is dead. You might wanna send some guards to help clear the body from the giant," Aela said to the guard.

"Never should have doubted the companions to be able to take care of that. We'll have the payment sent to Jorrvaskr," The guard said. The three companions nodded to the guard and headed towards the gate to enter the city. Naruto quickly followed behind them, but before he could get any further, he heard the guard call out to him.

"You stop right there. The city is barred to outsiders unless you have a permit," The guard said while signaling the blonde to stop where he was.

"He's with us. He helped us slay the giant," Aela turned back around and said to the guard. The guard thought for a moment before nodding his head.

"Alright, if the companions vouch for you, then I guess you can go through," The guard stated.

Naruto followed the three companions into the city. The massive gates of the city opened up as the group of four entered and made their way inside. The noise and chatter of the city immediately assaulted the blonde's ears as soon as he entered the city. He took in the surroundings of the city as he saw the various citizens of Whiterun go about their business. Immediately to his right, upon entering the city, he could see a large blacksmith's shop fully fitted with a forge and smelter. He saw a Nord man in imperial armour speaking to the blacksmith, an imperial woman, and they seemed to be arguing about something though the blonde couldn't hear it over the sounds of the city.

He looked around the rest of the surroundings and could see that at least this part of the city mainly contained the citizens' houses with some shops scattered here and there. The vast homes and buildings stretched in every direction of the city, and he could see no end in sight of the buildings.

"Didn't expect the city to be this big, did you?" Aela asked the blonde, who, after having heard the redhead address him.

"A little bit. I've seen bigger cities before, the imperial city being the biggest, but I never thought Skyrim would have a city this big," The blonde said, surprised at the size of the city itself. He knew the city was decently sized when looking at it from the outside, but now that he was inside the city itself, he could see the city's actual size. Naruto followed the three companions through the city as they made their way towards the Jarl's palace and Jorrvaskr.

"So, is there a particular reason you want to join us in the Companions?" Asked Aela to know more about the blonde warrior.

"It's to keep a promise I made to someone," The blonde said cryptically, gazing out solemnly at the sky. Aela saw the look on the blonde's face and could see that whatever memories that had resurfaced weren't the most pleasant.

"What sort of promise?" Enquired the huntress.

"It's not something I'd like to discuss, to be honest," The blonde said, shaking his head.

"I can see I've brought up unpleasant memories," The red-haired huntress said to the blonde.

"It's alright. You didn't know," Naruto replied, giving a reassuring smile to the beautiful redhead.

"You don't have to discuss it if you don't want to. When you join the companions, you leave behind your past and are forged anew," Aela replied, returning the blonde's smile with her own.

They continued there through the city, eventually making their way through the city's Wind District. The wind district was the main residential district of the city and contained most of the city's inhabitants. Naruto could see the large number of houses that filled the streets. The district was split into two parts. The lower Wind District contained most of the city's lower and middle-class inhabitants. The Upper part of the Wind District contained the rich upper and middle class of the city.

As he climbed up the steps leading to the top of the wind district, he came upon a large tree that looked to be in the final stages of its life. He could feel a familiar presence coming from the tree, it was faint, but he could feel a familiar essence of nature coming from the tree. He couldn't place where he had felt this presence before, but it felt familiar to him.

"This is the Gildergreen, and it's been standing here for countless years. Unfortunately, it seems to be dying off, Danica, the local priestess from the temple of Kyne, has been trying to bring it back but with no luck so far," Aela explained to the blonde.

"The tree is said to be a seed from the Eldergleam, the ancient tree planted by Kyne herself," The redhead explained further.

Naruto gazed intently at the tree, still trying to figure out why its presence felt familiar, before he shook his head and gave up. He continued following the three companions till they eventually came upon the stairs leading to the hall of Jorrvaskr.

Hearing a loud voice, the blonde turned his head to see a preacher belonging to the God Talos or Ysmir as he was known to the Nords. Naruto had been raised on the stories of the Ancient Emperor that had founded the Septim Empire. To the Nords, he had been Talos of Atmora or General Talos Stormcrown, whereas the imperials remember him as Tiber Septim.

"I breathe now in Royalty and reshape this land which is mine, and I do this Red Legions for I love you," Quoted the preacher stating the words that were said to have been uttered by the Dragonborn Emperor to his legionaries. Naruto felt a few images quickly flash before his eyes before his vision returned to normal as he heard the preacher continue with his speech.

"You can follow us to Jorrvaskr. You can rest there if you like before heading to the Jarl in the morning. We'll arrange for a meeting with our Harbinger Kodlak Whitemane, and he'll decide if you are worthy of joining us or not.

The blonde followed behind the three companions as they climbed up the steps towards the great mead hall of Jorrvaskr. Naruto took in the surroundings of the hall and could see the tales of it being built using one of the ships of the original 500 companions were true. The roof of the hall was made up of the large ship that had been turned upside down. The rest of the hall was made up of a similar wooden material as the ship.

As the doors to the great mead hall opened, the sounds of the party going on inside assaulted the blonde's ears. Entering inside, he could hear the clattering of mugs full of mead and plates filled with all sorts of food. The warriors inside all were enjoying the festivities as was common with most mead halls though from looking around, Naruto could tell these band warriors were far more rambunctious and lively than any others he had seen before. He could see them engaged in all sorts of different activities, from drinking and singing to some that were engaged in fistfights to see who was the better fighter.

"Come this way, and I'll take you to Kodlak," Aela said, gesturing to the blonde to follow her, which he did.

The blonde followed behind the redhead to a set of stairs that led down to a basement level. They continued down the steps, and Naruto could see that they had come up on what was the sleeping quarters for the companions. He could see countless numbers of rooms in the seemingly endless hallway and continued following behind the redhead who led him further down the hallway.

Eventually, they made it to the end of the hallway, at the end of which was a double door. Entering inside with Aela, the blonde saw two men sitting at a table, and they looked to be discussing something.

"Every night, its call is getting worse and worse, becoming harder to resist," Naruto heard the first man say. He was a Nord with brown hair and looked to have similar features to that of Farkas and was clad in a set of full steel plates with a wolf motiff.

"We all feel it, Vilkas, but we must learn to resist at least until we can figure out a cure," The much older man stated. He possessed gray-white hair, which he clearly had gotten from his advanced age and possessed a similar coloured beard, and was clad in the same armour as the man next to him. The two finally noticed them before the older man turned to them to speak.

"Aela, I see you are back from your errand. How did the giant-slaying go?" Asked the old warrior.

"It went well for the most part though we did have some help, which is why I came here, Kodlak," The red-haired huntress said.

"This is Naruto. He helped us kill the giant, and had it not been for his intervention, Ria would have been dead."

Kodlak rose from his seat and walked towards the blonde warrior until he was face to face with him.

"Same blonde hair, those same blue eyes. Although your face looks different, and you have those strange whisker markings on your face, but I have no doubt you are Ragnar's son, are you not?" The Harbinger of the companions asked. (1)

Naruto nodded his head and smiled before replying to the old warrior.

"Aye, I am his son. My father talked about you a lot Kodlak Whitemane. he said you once saved his life, and he owed you a life debt since then."

"I did. Now tell me, why is he not here? " Kodlak asked.

"He's dead and likely in Sovngarde now," Naruto replied bitterly at having to remember the scene of his parent's death.

"I see. You have my condolences. I'm sure Shor himself has prepared a feast unlike any other for Ragnar. A warrior of his like deserves it. You are welcome to stay here as long as you like. Any son of Ragnar's is a son of mine," Kodlak said while hugging the blonde.

"I was actually wondering if I could join the companions, one of my father's last wishes was for me to go out and seek my own glory and to repay his life debt to you. I want to do that by joining the companions.'' Naruto explained to Kodlak

"Well, that's good to hear. You're more than welcome to join us, '' Kodlak replied.

"Kodlak, do you think it's wise letting him join? I've not even heard of him," Vilkas asked.

"We don't judge people's worthiness to join the companies based on their fame, sometimes the famous come to us other times some come to us to earn their fame, all that's important is if their sword arm is strong and they fight with honor." Kodlak reasoned with Vilkas

"Although, as the son of Thane Ragnar Felwinter, I doubt that would be a problem for you, lad," He said, turning to Naruto. Naruto nodded his head, confirming it to not be an issue for him.

"Let me at least test him to see if he can fight," Vilkas said. Kodlak looked to Naruto, who nodded his head. The blonde was sure he would be able to take on the Nord warrior.

"Follow Vilkas to the courtyard, and we will see how you handle yourself," Kodlak said.

Naruto followed Vilkas into the courtyard, with Aela and Kodlak following behind them.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It had been a tough fight, but the blonde had managed to beat Vilkas. The Nord warrior had given him a tough time, his skill with a blade was great, but Naruto had been able to see through most of his attacks, keeping a calm defense before striking with various parry's and maneuvers to disarm and defeat the Companions warrior. He was preparing the leave to head towards the Jarl's Palace to inform him of Riverwoods situation when he saw the red-haired huntress approaching him.

"That was a great fight, and not many are able to keep up with Vilkas, let alone beat him, though I shouldn't have expected any less from the son of the Legendary Thane Ragnar," Aela said.

"My father was a great warrior, and he taught me much, but some things I learned on my own," Naruto replied with a smile on his face.

"Oh really? Are you willing to teach those things that you've learnt?" The red-haired huntress replied with a smile of her own.

"Hmm, how about we go on a hunt together? I wanna see the great huntress of the companions in action," The blonde replied. Aela nodded at the blonde and waved the blonde off as he headed towards the great palace of Dragonsreach.

As he entered the great hall within Dragonsreach, he saw the large skull of the great dragon Numinex that hung above the jarls throne room. As Naruto approached the throne room, he could see an argument that was going on between the Jarl and what looked to be one of his advisors.

"But my lord, the Jarl of Falkreath may see it as a provocation of war. He will think we are joining Ulfric's side." the Jarl's steward argued.

"And what would you have me do, Poventus, sit here and do nothing? No, we need to take action. If the rumors of a dragon are true, then we need to act and make sure our people are protected," The Jarl replied back.

He was a blonde-haired Nord standing at 6'2 with the build of a warrior with blue eyes. Naruto could see that despite his status as a Lord or Jarl, he still had scars indicating he had seen battle before. Naruto approached the throne, walking past the large hearth that was in the middle of the room. As he got closer to the throne, he saw a woman clad in leather armour approaching him with her blade drawn in a ready battle stance. Naruto could see that she was a Dark Elf and possessed their signature gray skin and red eyes. She had reddish-brown hair that was swept to the side, flowing freely onto her right shoulder. Naruto could see that she possessed a figure that was built for speed rather than strength as she had a graceful figure built around avoiding strikes rather than taking them but still, the blonde could see that she still possessed a good amount of muscles.

"You Halt! What business do you have here? How did the guards let you inside?" The Dark Elf woman asked the blonde

"I'm here because I have urgent news from Riverwood about the dragon that was spotted," The whiskered blonde replied to her question.

"News from Riverwood? Are they under attack?" the woman asked in a worried tone.

"No, but a dragon was seen flying in that direction," Naruto said to the woman, alleviating some of her worries.

"Quickly then, you have to bring this to the Jarl immediately then," Said the woman sheathing her sword and signaling the blonde to follow her.

"My Lord, this man has news from Riverwood. He says that a Dragon was seen flying in its direction," The Dark Elf told the Nord. The Jarl turned to the blonde, immediately interested in the news that he had brought him.

"What is it? What is this news that you're bringing to me? Well?" asked the Jarl.

"There was a Dragon seen heading in the direction of Riverwood. It was coming from Helgen,` the blonde told the Jarl.

"And you're sure of this?" the jarl questioned the blonde.

"I am. I saw it with my own eyes. I was in Helgen when the Dragon attacked," The blonde explained to the Jarl.

"It burned down the entire village leaving nothing behind but burnt bodies and smoldering runes. I was able to escape from the chaos and made it to Riverwood. I spoke to Gerdur, the local mill owner. She asked me to come here to request that you send a garrison of guards there immediately."

"I see. Well, do you still believe we should do nothing, Poventus." the Jarl said to his advisor.

"Irileth, have the captain send a garrison of the guards immediately, have them ride out on the horses as soon as possible. I want the town secured and protected as soon as possible," The Jarl ordered the Dark Elf, whose name Naruto now knew.

"At once, My Jarl," The woman proclaimed before immediately setting out to carry out her orders.

"My Lord, I still suggest caution," The advisor said to the Jarl.

"Enough! I won't stand idly by as a Dragon burns my Hold and Slaughters my people. This issue is settled," The Jarl exclaimed angrily to his advisor, who muttered a simple response of yes and walked off to resume his other duties. The Jarl turned to address the blonde that had brought him the news of the Dragon now that the situation had been dealt with.

"I want to thank you for seeking me out and going out of your way to bring me this news. Tell me, what is your name?" The Jarl asked the blonde

"The Name is Naruto, and it was nothing. It was the least I could do after they helped me out," The blonde replied.

"You have a strange name for a Nord. I am Balgruuf Jarl of Whiterun," Balgruuf told the blonde

"My mother gave it to me. She wasn't a Nord herself," The blonde told Balgruuf, who nodded his head at the blonde's answer.

"Come, I have a job that you may be able to help me with '' Balgruuf said to the blonde while walking towards another part of the palace. Naruto followed behind the Jarl as they entered another wing of the palace.

"My Court Wizard Farengar has been looking into the return of the Dragons. He said he needed something that I was hoping you would be able to get whatever it is that he needed," Balgruuf said.

The two of them entered a large library that contained a countless number of books. Naruto could see rows of shelves with various books. Everything from history books to magical tomes was here. Naruto followed Balgruuf further into the room, and they came upon an open area within the room where there were several large tables with various magical and alchemical items and books that were laid out on the table. Naruto could see a man leaning over a map. He was a fairly average-looking Nord man that was wearing clothing fitting that of a court mage.

"Farengar, I have brought someone here who should be able to help you with what you need," Said Balgruuf to the wizard, who looked away from his books and turned his attention to the approaching duo.

"Thank you, my Jarl," Farengar said, bowing to Balgruuf, who nodded his head to the Wizard and Naruto and left the room.

"So, you're the one the Jarl is going to have me help with my Dragon project. Hmm, you don't look any different to the average mercenaries I see walking around, perhaps a little taller than them. Then again, the task is a simple one, I suppose," The wizard said a little condescendingly to the blonde.

Naruto frowned at the man's tone but chose not to comment on it, simply wanting to get this job over and done with so he could rest up for the day.

"Just tell me what it is that you need help with," the blonde asked sharply to the wizard. The wizard immediately stiffened up at the blonde's tone and coughed into his hand to distract from the awkward situation.

"Right, I need a stone tablet retrieving from the old ruin of bleak falls barrow. It contains the locations of Dragon burial sites that may offer useful information on the return of the Dragons," Said Farengar.

"You mean this stone tablet," Said the blonde, removing the steel gauntlets of his hand and activating the rune seal on his arm that contained the Dragon tablet. The wizard looked shocked though it wasn't at the tablet the blonde had placed on his table.

"Amazing, are those Akaviri magic seals? How do you know how to use them? They are said to be impossible to learn," The wizard asked, amazed at the blonde's display of magic. Perhaps he had judged him too early if he was able to display an aptitude in such a lost magic art.

"That's a personal business of my own. I brought you the dragon tablet. Now tell me what's my reward," Said the blonde.

"Ah, I see. Well, the jarl will have your reward," Said the wizard while awkwardly shuffling to where the blonde had placed the tablet to start studying it.

Naruto left the wizard's room and headed back towards the main hall of the palace with the throne room, asking one of the guards where the Jarl was; he headed up the stairs and arrived at one of the rooms within the palace that contained a large war table with a map of Skyrim in the middle along with all sorts of other items strewn about the room. Naruto approached the table where he noticed Balgruuf and Irileth were discussing something with a guard who looked like he had run halfway across Skyrim with how heavily he was breathing.

"Ah, Naruto, why are you here? Did Farengar not need you for whatever it was that he wanted." Said the Jarl to the blonde.

"He did, but it turns out I had already gotten the item he needed. He needed a stone dragon tablet from Bleak falls barrow, which I had happened to get from the ruin before I arrived here to Whiterun," Said the blonde.

"Hmm, it seems Kyne has smiled upon us then. We need your help with something then. A Dragon has been seen attacking the Western Watchtower. It's already burned a part of the watchtower down and killed most of the garrison there." Said the Jarl with a concerned tone.

"I was going to send Irileth and a detachment of guards to deal with it, but since you're here, they could use your experience in dealing with a Dragon to help fight it."

Naruto thought about the proposal. On the one hand, it was a dangerous request that could end up with him getting killed. After all, he had barely managed to escape Helgen, but if there was one thing he was taught, it was to never run from a battle.

"I'll help you, but I still need to be paid for helping your court wizard, and I do expect compensation for fighting this dragon," The blonde said to the Jarl.

"Of course, I wouldn't expect you to do it for free. Here, this should be useful against the dragon and should compensate you for helping Farengar." Said Balgruuf, handing the blonde a steel shield. Naruto looked at the shield and could see that it looked different from any other steel shield he had seen before.

"It's Skyforge steel. It's much stronger than normal steel and has also been enchanted to resist fire."

The blonde nodded his head and placed the shield on his back, and prepared himself for the upcoming battle.

It had taken them a while, but eventually, Naruto and the detachment of the guards arrived at the Western watchtower. The watchtower had four stone walls that were connected to a large tower that stretched into the sky and offered a view of the surrounding area. Inside there were several buildings that, before the attack, most likely housed the guards that operated here, but now there was nothing left of them but ash and the remains of burning wooden structures. Naruto could see the walls of the watchtower had also been damaged in the attack, with one section having collapsed.

"Quickly, we must get inside and take up a defensive position," Irileth shouted orders to the guards and galloped her horse inside. Naruto followed quickly behind on his horse and headed inside the walls of the watchtower.

"Get Down. The dragon is still out there, it grabbed Froki and flew off into the sky, but I could still hear it flying out there," One of the guards of the watchtower said to the approaching group who had by now dismounted and taken up defensive positions.

"Any advice on what we can do," Irileth asked the blonde. Naruto looked and examined the watchtower, taking in all the strategic points he responded to the Dark Elf.

"I would set up archers on the roof of the main tower and on the walls, anyone that has experience using magic, tell them to not hold back and hit it with everything they got. We need to get it to land so we have a better chance at taking it out."

ROAR!

The roar of the dragon echoed out from the sky; Naruto looked up to see the dragon start to dive down towards their position.

"Scatter now," The blonde said as he grabbed the bow from his back and notched the arrow, ready to take aim at the dragon.

The dragon dove down and spread a molten hot stream of fire from its mouth at the scattering guards, who started to head to their designated spots. Naruto dodged out of the way of the stream of fire and aimed his bow at the dragon, and unleashed the arrow, flying through the arrow, hitting the dragon on the scales on its back, and simply bounced without much damage being done to it. The blonde took notice of this and started to notch another, preparing to find the spot where its weakness lay.

The dragon swooped down, this time attempting to grab the blonde with its feet, but Naruto was able to dodge the attempt again and, this time, aim for the underside of the dragon's body. The arrow flew through the air and, this time, successfully impacted its belly, embedding itself inside the dragon's skin.

"Aim for the belly. That's where the scales are the weakest," Shouted the blonde to archers on the battlements.

A barrage of arrow fire was unleashed by the guards aimed at the weak point of the dragon that had been discovered by the blonde. Individually the arrows would not have done much to the dragon, but the absolute barrage of concentrated arrow fire was causing serious damage to the dragon. The dragon, getting tired of the constant barrage of arrow fire, headed straight for the tower where most of the arrow fire was coming from.

"Those men are in danger. I'll head over there to try to help them," Naruto said to Irileth.

"Are you sure? Those men know what they're getting into. We need you alive if we want to beat this thing," The Dark Elf replied to the blonde.

"Don't worry. I will be fine. Besides, I have an idea that is risky but could end up working out," The blonde said. Irileth nodded to him and reorganized her man back into position.

Naruto headed up the stairs of the watchtower, running as fast as he could to make it up there in time. Just as he arrived at the top, the dragon swooped down and landed with a large slam that caused the watchtower to shake, knocking the blonde off his feet. Naruto quickly got to his feet and unclasped the shield the jarl had given him off his back. The dragon seeing the blonde standing defiantly in front of him growled and reared its head back, preparing to unleash a blast of fire at the blonde. The torrent of fire erupted from the dragon's maw and headed straight for Naruto. Quickly raising his shield, he was able to block the stream of fire though he could still feel the intense heat of the flames.

The stream of fire stopped suddenly, causing him to lower his shield. Just as he did so, he saw the dragon open its jaw and attempt to bite him. Naruto dodged out of the way of the attack and could see an opening as the dragon still had its head outstretched. Quickly taking advantage of the opportunity, he grabbed onto the dragon's neck and mounted it. The dragon seeing the blonde had gotten onto his back, roared in anger and tried to shake the blonde off but to no avail. Seeing no other way, it used its powerful wings to start to fly into the air to try and get the blonde warrior off his back.

Naruto, seeing the actions the dragon was taking, knew it wouldn't be long before it would knock him off its back, so he raised his sword and started to slice at the dragon's back and neck, causing the dragon to take damage and shake even more violently. Naruto struggled to hold on to the dragon as its attempt to knock the blonde off got a lot more desperate and violent. Naruto knew he had very little time left, so he decided to get one final hit that would hopefully kill the dragon. Carefully maneuvering closer to its head, he raised his sword and thrust it into the dragon's exposed right eye, piercing it instantly and causing the dragon to let out an earth-shattering screech of pain.

Naruto still held onto the sword embedded into the dragon and used the embedded sword to try and guide the dragon back down to the ground. The dragon started to dive-bomb towards the ground and violently impacted the ground throwing the blonde off him along with dislodging the sword in the process. The blonde landed heavily on the ground knocking the air out of his lungs and causing him to cough violently. He was eventually able to get to his feet, and he could see that the dragon, now critically wounded, was on its last legs.

"Are you alright?" Iirileth asked as she helped the blonde.

"Yeah, I'm good. He doesn't look too good, though," The blonde said jokingly.

"Doesn't look too happy either," The Dark Elf replied back.

"Wow, I didn't know you could make jokes with how serious you seem," The blonde said in a shocked tone.

"We can discuss that later. Focus back on the dragon," Iirileth said to the blonde in a strict tone.

"And there it is," Naruto said jokingly, referring to the Dark Elf's strict and straight nature, before turning his attention back to the dragon.

The two warriors worked in tandem with each other and started to chip away at the dragon with slashes and swipes of their swords while the guards pelted the dragon with arrow fire from above. Having enough of this, the dragon swiped its tail at the duo, knocking them back. The dragon used this opportunity to try and burn the two disoriented warriors alive. Naruto seeing the torrent of fire heading towards them, was able to quickly raise his shield, protecting him and Irileth from the attack. Knowing the shield's enchantment wouldn't be able to hold forever, he pushed himself to his feet and started to walk towards the dragon with his shield raised.

The blonde could feel the sweltering heat of the flames but pushed himself through and got closer and closer to the dragon until, eventually, he was right next to it. By now, the dragon's blast of fire had subsided, so he used this opportunity to bash the dragon with his shield, disorienting it. He then used the opening he created to thrust his sword underneath the dragon's throat, piercing right through delivering the last blow required to fell the great beast of old.

"Dovahkiin!? Noooo!"

Naruto could have sworn he had the dragon shout something before its body collapsed in front of him. As he was regaining his breath, he saw the dragon's body erupt into fire-like energy and head straight for him. Naruto raised his shield in protection expecting the energy to harm him, but that's not what happened as the energy absorbed into his body. It revitalized and healed his wounds and removed all the exhaustion from his body. Just as the energy finished fully being absorbed into him, he saw a series of words flash in his eyes.

"FUS"

Naruto did not know how he did that, but the word he had heard in the nordic ruin left his lips, and a thunderous wave of energy erupted from his mouth, the same wave that he had been hit with by the Draugr lord in the rune.

"Amazing, you-you're Dragonborn," He heard. Turning to the voice, he saw that it was one of the guards that had been stationed at the tower.

"What do you mean?" Asked the blonde

"You just absorbed the Dragon's soul and used a shout. Just like the old Nord legends," The guard replied back to the blonde in an amazed tone.

"Wait, I never heard of Tiber Septim killing any dragons and taking their souls," Another guard said

"That's because they were all dead by then, idiot," The first guard replied back.

"Irileth, what do you think of this?" Asked another guard to the Dark Elf.

"I have been around Tamriel and seen just as many outlandish things as this, all that matters to me is he can kill Dragons, and that's good enough for me," She said to the guards.

"You wouldn't get it, housecarl. You ain't a Nord," The first guard said to the Dark Elf.

"That's enough of that. You all are getting paid to defend this watchtower, not talk. Now half of you rest up and man the watchtower. The rest of you, we are heading back to Whiterun," Irileth ordered the guards, who grumbled but followed her orders.

"Let's get back to the Jarl so we can end this day and get some well-earned rest," She said to the blonde, who nodded his head in agreement.

It was a few hours after they had set out back to the city of Whiterun and what had happened with the dragon was still very much fresh in the blonde's mind. He knew what a Dragonborn was. After all, his father had raised him to know all the Nordic traditions and had always told him stories of the heroes of old. Suppose he was Dragonborn, though. It raised all sorts of questions within his mind. Why him? what was his purpose as Dragonborn, and what was his place in the world now. Before he could ponder any further on this, a thunderous shout erupted through the sky and shook the entire land, almost as if an earthquake was taking place.

Dovahkiin!

The shout erupted throughout all of Skyrim and beyond, signaling the arrival of another doom-driven hero of the Dragon blood. Now, was he truly just a doom-driven hero, or was there something more to the blonde's destiny than simply just that?

Alright guys i hope you enjoyed the chapter, my next update will be a new fic that i have been planning and will be starting work on. To give you a hint it is a Naruto/ Marvel fic.
