It was a simple night, yet it was chilly and the wind blew from time to time, making it feel even colder.

The Grinch escorted his fiancée back off of Mount Crumpit to her home down in the village. He wore his brown cloak, not being bothered by the sudden gusts of wind that would appear every now and then, years of living up on a mountain grew him used to that.

Martha, on the other hand, wasn't expecting the temperature to drop so low and unfortunately hadn't come prepared. It was a lot warmer when she first came up earlier in the day, and it was springtime, so the thought her potentially needing a coat didn't register in her mind.

She held onto his arm as they continued their trail down the rocky terrain. Normally she'd be comforted by his fur against her skin, but cold air overpowered the feel, causing her to shiver.

Grinch enjoyed the moments whenever he got to walk her back home, it allowed them to spend more time with each other. He didn't realize that there was a problem until he reached over to comfortingly stroke her arm and noticed the amount of chill bumps that lined her skin.

He looked over at her, brows slightly pulled in concern. "Are you cold?"

Martha, trying her best not to shiver at that moment, gave him a reassuring smile, gently rubbing the hair on his arm as to not worry him. "Just a bit chilly, dear, but I'm alr-"

She didn't even get to finish what she was saying as a sudden…warmth surrounded her. He had pulled off his cloak from around himself and wrapped her within it instead. It was a bit big on her but it felt so soft and fuzzy and incredibly warm from his body heat. The fabric nuzzled against her skin, pretty much erasing her previous chill bumps. It even had his scent in it too, adding to the pleasure.

Martha leaned herself against him, no longer shivering but rather…swooning as she hummed happily against his chest, the thick hairs from his coat tickling her slightly. Her fiancé chuckled, kissing her on her head as he brought her in closer.

"I'm guessing that means you're feeling better?" Grinch asked with a smirk.

She nodded, wrapping him tightly within the embrace. "Mmmm, very much so."

They soon made it up to the steps of her home. Martha turned facing him, only to be met with a sweet kiss to her cheek by the man who has her heart. She giggled as she was about to remove his cloak to give it back to him, yet was stopped.

"Keep it,"

She blinked out of surprise. "But…won't you need it going back up there?"

He shrugged. "I'll be fine. Plus I can always get it back whenever I come and visit you."

His hand lifted to pull the hood part of the cloak over her head, just like he'd wear on his solo trips down to Whoville. A small smile came to his face the moment he noticed his utterly bonny she had looked wearing an outfit of his. Normally he'd see this type of stuff on tv or in some sappy novels and scoff it off; but with Martha…it just seemed right.

"It suits you," His voice soft. "I swear if I could marry you right here on the spot I would!"

That got her chuckling. "Patience, my love, we'll get there eventually." She caressed his cheek. "Don't worry, I cannot wait for that day to arrive any sooner as well."

"Me neither." He mumbled as he leaned in for a goodnight kiss. Martha complied, meeting his lips with her own. It was almost as warm as the cloak itself.

Then he pulled away, making his way down the steps, his arm thrown up in a wave goodbye. "Until tomorrow, my bride-to-be!"

Martha laughed yet again, shaking her head good naturedly as she watched him tenderly. "Goodnight to you to, Grinch…goodnight to you too."
