The captains were assembled in squad one's meeting room, discussing the newcomer. Shunsui gave the other Captains what little information he had on her. As the discussion started, he rolled his eyes and willed his hangover to stay away. Kurotsuchi wanted to use her in his experiments, Zaraki wanted to fight her, Unohana wanted to keep her in squad four to treat her, Juushiro and himself wanted to keep her here and learn more about her, but the rest of them wanted her gone to avoid their peace being disturbed.
Head Captain Yamamoto banged his cane sharply on the floor and the room fell silent. He asked for her to be brought in. Hitsugaya, who was closest to the door, slid it open and looked outside. Sosin was sitting on the steps to the sand garden, his own Lieutenant sitting beside her. They were both drinking and laughing together.
"Matsumoto!" he growled. "Your duty was to guard her, not drink with her."
"But she's right here!" Rangiku gestured.
Shaking his head, Hitsugaya called the newcomer inside. He frowned at her giving her bottle to his Lieutenant, and his frown deepened even further as she raised her eyebrows at him challengingly. Following the short captain inside, she stood in the middle of the room.
"Miss Sosin." Yamamoto greeted her. "You were called to explain why you are here."
"I honestly don't know." She shrugged. "I've been asking to leave ever since I landed in the woods."
"Stop being a smartass and answer the question." Soi Fong growled.
"Touchy, touchy…" Sosin looked over her shoulder to her, then back at Yamamoto. "I was hurt. I fled. Now I'm here. I'd like to leave." She said monotonely.
"Why were you hurt?" Hitsugaya asked.
"Apparently because I can't keep my big mouth shut." She grinned at him, who just frowned.
"You are not making this easier on yourself, girl." Yamamoto sighed. "Tell us the whole story. No jokes or sarcastic remarks."
"With all due respect, Mr. Shinigami Chief," she started, "but my story is none of your damn business." She held a hand up to stop him from scolding her. "I'll tell you this. If you don't let me go, you're going to be attacked. Soon. The man after me doesn't give up easily. So, if you want your peace to stay, point me to your gates."
"Who is after you?"
"Why does he want you?"
"Who are you?"
That and many other questions bombarded her. She merely shook her head and turned to leave. As soon as she raised her hand to slide the door open, Byakuya flash-stepped between her and the door. Her hand made contact with his stomach and she stopped.
"Not you again." She groaned and let her hand fall.
"Even if you leave, the person after you will likely pass through here, following the trail of Reiatsu you left. So tell us who it is, and what he wants." He ordered lowly. Sosin stared irritably at him, then sighed, raising her hand. Wisps of dark smoke oozed from her fingers and slid down her arm, to vanish before hitting the floor.
"His name is Aizen, and he wants my powers. For what, I don't know. I was hiding in a small village in the World of the Living, until one of them saw me use my magic. They mistook me for a witch. I could have fought them off easily, they were barely civilized, but it would have given my position away." She looked surprised at the collective intake of breath and tense atmosphere. "I'm assuming you know my enemy?" She lowered her hand again.
"I'm afraid you won't be leaving here anytime soon, Miss Sosin." Yamamoto said gravely.
"What?" she snapped around to glare at the old man. "Why?"
"You will be put under the protection of one of the squads until he has been dealt with." He continued as if she hadn't spoken. "Any volunteers?" Shunsui was about to step forward, but Kenpachi beat him to it.
"If Aizen's after her power, she must be strong. I'll take her. Might be fun." He glanced at Sosin, who was glaring daggers at the Head Captain.
"Very well. Dismissed."
"Now wait just a minute." Sosin started towards the old man, but Kenpachi put a hand on her shoulder.
"Let it go, woman." He forcefully turned her and pushed her out the door. He heard her muttering under her breath and chuckled. "You want to let out some of that anger we have a great training room."
"Good for you." She snapped, picking up her bag which was lying next to a passed out Rangiku, her Captain glaring at her.
"This is your fault." He glared at Sosin.
"But not my problem." She turned and followed a sniggering Zaraki back to squad eleven.
Sosin had been given a room between the third and fifth seat's quarters, having met none of them on the way there. After she dropped off her bag, she was led to the training room, where most of the squad was beating the shit out of each other. Sosin rolled her eyes and walked to a nearby bench, slumping and crossing her arms. If her sense of direction wasn't so bad, she'd be marching back to the old man. Or effectively finding an exit.
"So, you're the newcomer?" two men stepped in front of her. "Where's your sword?" Sosin looked from the fight Kenpachi was having with a group of his seated officers and studied the two men in front of her. One was bald, the other had feathers in his eyebrow. Everyone in this division seemed like a fashion school dropout.
"I don't have one." She answered.
"How do you fight?" the bald one asked.
"I try not to." She frowned as he looked at her as if she had grown another head. Muttering something unintelligible under his breath and shaking his head, he turned and walked away.
"What my esteemed colleague is trying to say," the man with the feathers said as he sat next to her, "is that this squad is known for its fighting prowess."
"So I've heard." She sighed and slumped her shoulders. Hissing in pain, she thought about going back to her room to search her bag for a potion, maybe even an ointment against her pains.
"What's your name?" Feathers asked.
"Sosin." She rubbed her shoulder as she rose, not interested in the least in the man next to her.
"I'm Yumichika Ayasegawa. It is a pleasure to meet someone as beautiful as you." He stood, following her across the edge of the training room.
"Hmm, I'm sure it is." She stopped as the tip of a wooden sword was held in front of her face. She looked cross eyed at it. "What?" she glared at the bald man from before. He was resting another wooden sword on his shoulder.
"Name's Ikkaku Madarame." He twirled the sword and held the hilt out to her. "Let's see what you can do."
"I'm busy, go find someone else to play with." Sosin tried to step around him, but he stopped her with the side of the sword across her chest.
"What's the matter?" he grinned. "Scared?"
"Of going bald like you?" she arched an eyebrow. "Maybe when I'm older." She tried to sidestep him again, but was shoved back, the sword being pushed into her hands.
"I'm not bald!" he yelled, heat rising to his neck and face. He raised his training sword and attacked her. Sosin merely stepped back again and again, until she was in the middle of the training room, the other squad members having cleared the area for their third seat and the newcomer.
"Look here, chrome dome, I don't have time for this." She had dropped the wooden sword after his first attack. Looking for a way to sidestep him, she failed to notice him reaching for his real sword after hearing his new nickname. Slashing in an upwards motion, Sosin gasped and stepped back again, barely avoiding a new cut. "Are you daft?!" she yelled at him.
"Fight back, woman!" Ikkaku slashed again at her, this time managing to rip through her shirt. A thin, shallow cut went from her navel to her ribs, almost ripping off some bandages under her shirt.
"This was my last shirt!" Sosin was getting irritated. She checked her bandages with her hand, and satisfied they were covering her mark stepped forward shrouding her hand in protective smoke. Ikkaku seemed taken aback, so taking advantage of his distraction with her magic, she slapped Ikkaku's blade away from her face, coming to a halt directly in front of him. She pulled her fist back and punched him in the middle of his face, effectively breaking his nose and making him stumble back.
"So you prefer fistfights?" he wiped his face and sheathed his sword, throwing it to Yumichika. He crouched into a stance and held up his fists. "I can do that." Sosin rolled her eyes and turned away, she didn't care if she had to jump out of a window to get out. "Don't turn your back on your opponent!" Ikkaku rushed at her and threw a punch, but she ducked and swung out her leg, pulling the edge of her skirt from her waistband, letting the 25 yards of black fabric flutter in an arch. Ikkaku jumped to avoid her leg, but twisted his body so that he fell on top of her, pinning her arms to her sides, his knees on either side of her waist. Grinning down at her, he was ready to let out some snide remark, but his words died in his throat as she grunted and lifted her legs to wrap around his throat from behind. Stretching her body, she used the floor as leverage to throw him off her. Sosin sat on his stomach and wrapped her hand in smoke. She was about to punch Ikkaku again when she was tackled off him by a blur of black and pink.
