The drive back felta lot shorter than it had when they had left for Rattigan Academy.

It surprised Agnes because the atmosphere has become heavy with tension and she'd expected the nagging feeling in her chest to make time appear more drawn out. Instead, it had somehow helped speed it up.

Agnes' eyes kept darting towards the Doctor, his face set in a deep frown, eyebrows scrunched up. It was a familiar look on him, not only this face but also his other ones. Agnes has seen it more than once while travelling with the man.

He must be worrying about Martha…

Or maybe it was her he worried about as he did so often.

The car ride was spent in silence, even Donna, who was looking outside the window and watching the landscape pass by, was gnawing at her lip instead.

Agnes really didn't like this tension at all.

After a considerable passage of time, the car slowed and they were waved through a gate at the entrance of the UNIT quarters by the patrolling soldiers. As soon as they were inside the perimeters Jenkins stopped the car and Agnes was nudged forward as Donna opened the door and The Doctor hurried her to follow outside.

The air was thick with white smoke, the smell of the gas burning her lungs. She coughed as a hand on her back urged her to continue walking. Donna looked back at her, face scrunched up in disgust and eyes narrowed.

Yeah, her eyes started to burn as well…

When they reached another gate, this one leading directly to the entrance of the industrial hall, they stopped. Agnes looked towards the UNIT guards standing a few feet away, waiting for The Doctor to pull her towards them, but Donna's cough pulled her out of her thoughts.

"The air is disgusting," the redhead stated, hand swatting at the air without success.

The burn in Agnes' lungs intensified, the bitter smell of the gas the only thing they could breathe in. The Doctor glanced towards Agnes, eyes narrowing in concern when he saw her scrunched up face and he gave a nod towards Donna.

"It's not so bad for me. Go on, get inside the Tardis." He waved them off and Agnes hesitated. "Oh, I've never given you a key. Keep that. Go on, that's yours. Quite a big moment really!"

His voice had picked up, was cheerier, too. Agnes and Donna gave him a sceptical look. The woman still took the key with a half-smile, although the cough forcing its way out of her throat did manage to ruin the little moment.

"Yeah, maybe we can get sentimental after the world's finished choking to death."

Agnes snorted. How poetic.

"Good idea."

The Doctor nodded curtly, gave Agnes' shoulder one last squeeze before he turned to run off. Towards the guards at the entrance of the industrial hall. Agnes bit her tongue before she could call after him but luckily Donna wasn't so shy.

"Where are you going?"

The man barely turned, nor did he slow his running as he called back to them.

"To stop a war."

They watched him run off for a moment, then Donna urged Agnes to move towards the Tardis. The box wasn't standing too far from where they've separated with the Doctor, parked in a small alleyway. The fog grew thicker with every passing minute but as Donna and Agnes came to stop before the time machine the blue of the exterior was still vibrant.

Agnes was filled with calm excitement upon the sight of the Tardis, warmth flooding her chest and relief washing over her as Donna fumbled with the key. The door opened with a creak, inviting them in and both women hurried inside, escaping from the poisonous air outside into the warmth and safety of the Doctor's oldest companion.

As soon as they stood inside the Tardis Agnes took a big breath, leaning against the closed door. The air that now filled her lung didn't hurt so much anymore, though her lungs were still a little irritated. Really fucking disgusting.

Donna walked towards the console smiling fondly at the ship before she turned around again, eyes wide with recognition.

"I just remembered we could have used your key, too," she laughed, pointing at the key in her hand she then proceeded to pocket.

Agnes shook her head. "I don't have a key…"

"You don't?"

"No."

Donna hummed in thought, leaning back against the console as Agnes joined her, letting herself sink into the pilot seat with a huff. It was almost the same as the one in Eleven's Tardis. The one that had given her comfort her very first day. A soft humming that Agnes recognized as the Tardis' filled the room and Agnes smiled.

Almost sounded like the Tardis wanted her to know she didn't need a key. The thought really warmed her heart.

"Don't mind me asking but how long have you been with the Doctor?"

Agnes looked toward Donna at the unexpected question. It came out of nowhere but when she studied her expression, the redhead had tilted her head to the side, but her eyes were free of any judgement. She just looked curious.

Agnes hummed in thought, looking up to the ceiling.

"I think about two weeks? Time in the Tardis is weird."

A breathy laugh escaped the woman and she stepped closer to sit down next to Agnes in the pilot seat, giving her a cheeky grin.

"Tell me about it! There aren't any clocks around. 'No use for a clock in a time machine.' As the Doctor says. And the whole time travelling isn't making this any easier to keep track of!" She huffed, rolling her eyes at the mention of the Doctor and the teenager giggled at that.

She remembered how during her first week in the Tardis she had asked the Doctor why there wasn't a clock in her room as she was used to having one around and he had looked weirdly offended at the idea that she needed a clock. "What's the point of a clock in a time machine?" he had asked her, waving his hands around "Time changes constantly! You'd just be confused!" And Agnes had shrugged it off because it really wasn't such a big deal.

"He really isn't a fan of clocks is he?" she smiled fondly at the memory of the Doctor's offended gasping and spluttering.

Donna shrugged, throwing her hands up into the air as she let out a rather dramatic sigh.

"What do I know? You'd think he is as a Timelord but maybe he has some form of superiority complex with these damn devices. As a Lord of Time, he probably thinks he knows better. That suits him well."

Yeah, that sounds like him, Agnes thought, snorting.

"You're quite young, aren't you? I just thought because you are very lively and you don't have a key…" Donna started, and Agnes suddenly realized where this conversation was going.

She hummed, looking down at her hands. More lively… That was just another way to say she was being too reckless. Words she heard from the Doctor more often than she would have wanted to. So what if she was loud and blunt? That man was worse on his best days and it wasn't like Agnes got into any unnecessary trouble as he did.

Which, again, made her wonder what exactly would happen in her near future that made the Doctor think of her as reckless… and what it would mean for her specifically.

Her silence must have been answer enough for Donna because she was smiling at her, something akin to pity visible in her eyes and Agnes had to look away to not frown at the women's empathy.

"You're also, and don't try to deny this, more scared than I've seen you before."

The girl huffed.

"I'm not scared!"

Donna rolled her eyes.

"Don't be thick, I know you."

Agnes crossed her arms in front of her chest and grumbled. So what, maybe she was a little…cautious. It's been two weeks, she thinks she's allowed to be. Two weeks without answers and just more questions.

Like…

"Okay, maybe, so what? I think-"

A rumble passed through the ship and Donna and Agnes shot up from their seats before a second rumble made them stumble towards the console.

"What is that?" Donna asked in panic before the rumbling stopped coming in waves but instead started passing through the ship steadily.

"I don't know!" The girl held onto the console, looking towards the door but it was still tightly locked.

The rumbling slowed for a second but then continued on and Agnes and Donna exchanged looks.

"Feels like we're moving. Like someone is transporting the Tardis," Donna noted and Agnes nodded her head, darkly remembering that sometime during this adventure the Sontaran brought the Tardis on their ship.

"I think we're being kidnapped by accident."

"By those Sontaran?"

Agnes nodded, giving Donna a crooked grin.

"Yup, the potato heads," she joked lightheartedly.

The redhead blinked at her in bewilderment. Her eyes shifted between the door and Agnes' face.

"They look like potatoes?"

The girl shrugged.

"I mean kinda?"

"Do they or-" The Tardis shook more violently before suddenly coming to a stop. "Don't they?!"

Donna looked towards Agnes, nodding towards the door and the girl understood what the redhead was trying to ask, nodding in agreement.

They stepped towards the Tardis door, listening for noises but all Agnes could make out was the sound of footsteps and hushed voices so when Donna reached for the handle she didn't stop her.

Cracking the door open the redhead took a look outside and Agnes pushed herself more into her space to be able to see something as well. Yeah, definitely what a Sontaran spaceship looked like. Dark and gloomy, lights painting the room a hue of lilac. Two of the aliens were standing with their backs turned towards them working on some panels positioned in the middle of the room.

Donna cursed under her breath before closing the door again, looking at Agnes with wide eyes."They do have potato heads," Donna whispered dramatically and the teen rolled her eyes.

"I told you!

Agnes' limited knowledge of this adventure wasn't a lot of help. The girl didn't remember how the Doctor had managed to bring the Tardis with Donna in it back nor did she remember anything the both of them, Donna and her, could have tried to help the Doctor. There were memory flashes of Donna walking through the spaceship and opening a door with a three-finger panel and Martha in the Doctor's trench coat and Agnes did remember the "Are you my mommy?" scene where the Doctor was wearing a gas mask.

Besides those glimpses, Agnes' head was empty.

So Donna and she had no other choice but to sit around and twiddle their thumbs. They were only stuck in the coolest place to be stuck in in the entire universe, what could go wrong?

"I hate this. Being trapped, unable to do something or help the Doctor. I feel so…useless."

Agnes looked up from her position on the jumping chair to eye Donna, who was leaning against the railing, face pulled into a grimace.

"Yeah, this sucks. But going outside wouldn't be a good idea..right?"

The place was swarmed with Sontaran, if they were caught they would be used as bait for the Doctor. He still had an upper hand in this situation, with Donna and her being hidden in the ship without the Sontaran's knowledge. This strategic position would be ruined if they just went outside without a plan.

Agnes snorted.

And the Doctor called her reckless. Ha!

Donna agreed with her but her shoulders sagged.

Yeah, Agnes felt quite useless, too. With her memories being this jumbled.

The screen on the console flickered, the symbol usually displayed on standby disappearing. Agnes jumped up, looking towards Donna to motion her to look, looking back in time to catch sight of something purple before the picture of the Doctor became visible.

Donna breathed out in relief, leaning over the screen, calling for the Doctor but the man showed no reaction.

"I don't think he can hear us.."

"Yeah, no, it's one way."

This became clearer when the Doctor started talking, his words directed to the Sontaran outside and although they were only able to hear parts of the conversation Agnes was still able to relate to The Doctor's annoyance in his voice, thinking back to the one potato head by Luke's side.

"He must know we can hear him!" Donna groaned, shaking the monitor.

The picture on the screen flickered again and the Doctor, despite not being able to hear them, still unknowingly responded to Donna's question.

"As they say in the Latin text Agnus Dei: 'Donna Nobis Pacem'."

Agnes perked up at her name, lips stretching into a grin. Donna let loose a shout of relief.

"That's us. We're here."

She reached for Agnes, squeezing her shoulder as the two of them stared at the scanner, awaiting some form of command or maybe just words of comfort.

"Did you never wonder about its design? It's a phone box. It contains a phone. A telephonic device for communication. Sort of symbolic." The Doctor stared at the screen, eyebrows furrowing in concentration as he pointed between the screen and himself. "Like, if only we could communicate, you and I."

"Oh, my God," Donna called out, picking up a phone that had been lying on the console, showing it to Agnes.

Martha's phone. The one she had left with the Doctor when she had left the Tardis. The one she's used to calling the Doctor in for help…

"But who do we phone?" Donna turned towards her but Agnes was forced to shrug.

The redhead huffed and turned back to stare at the phone in her hands.

"Do you know his number at least?"

Agnes snorted.

"I don't think he got a number, besides I don't even know my own phone number..."

"Who doesn't know their own number?" Donna yelled in disbelief and Agnes grinned at her.

Donna didn't look amused at all, though, face crumbling as the screen grew dark again and they still didn't know what to do.

The rumbling from before started again and the two of them were jolted around in the Tardis as the phone box was moved once more. Agnes almost fell but the redhead grabbed her hand and pulled her up before she could.

"What do we do now?" Donna asked, clinging to the console.

Agnes huffed as the Tardis jolted forward suddenly.

The Sontaran should really learn some gentleness, how roughly they were treating the Tardis started to annoy her.

"We're the ones with the phone so I'm pretty sure the Doctor will give us a call eventually!"

Donna lit up at that thought.

"You're right!"

The question was just how long they'd have to wait until that would happen…

Agnes wasn't really known for being a patient person. It's been proven time and time again throughout her adventures with the Doctor.

So after she and Donna had just been sitting there in silence, again, for what might have been hours and felt like it, Agnes was quickly growing tired and frustrated.

"It's hard to figure out, you know?"

Donna looked up from the spot on the floor her eyes had been trained on. Her hands were clutching the phone tightly in her hands. Agnes wondered what the Doctor was doing at the moment…

"What is?"

She shrugged, struggling to put her jumbled thoughts into words. Donna had told her she seemed scared earlier and for some reason, she felt the urge to explain herself now while they had nothing better to do either way.

With the silence pressing down on her and how nervous Donna was Agnes had started talking without even thinking.

"What to do, what not to do, what to say…just everything."

Donna joined her in the jumping seat, sinking down next to her, eyes and smile warm as she motioned for her to continue.

"I tried to change something last time. I just- I wanted to see if I could? Because time travel is weird and it just- nothing really changed at all."

She sighed.

She had taken Lunn's place and ensured Clara, Cass and Lunn wouldn't have to leave the cage before the Doctor arrived. But in the end, it didn't really make a difference. The Doctor didn't come back any sooner, they didn't achieve anything more.

Donna hummed.

"So you are not feeling like you are in control, is that it?"

She sighed, head dropping. "Yeah, I guess."

The woman pulled her into a hug, holding her tightly before letting go again. It wasn't long but Agnes felt a little bit lighter than she did before.

Donna truly was amazing.

"I get it, life with the Doctor is wild. Every time when I feel like I have it figured out a new problem arises," Donna talked fondly of it despite the situation they were in right now.

"Yeah, that's true." The teen smiled but the corner of her lips dropped again as she remembered something. "There is something I have to ask the Doctor. It's important but I'm scared of the answer…"

It was a question she had meant to ask for a while but pushed off. Partly due to their busy life and the endless adventuring but if she was being honest most of it was due to her fear of what the Doctor would tell her. She knew it was too important to pretend like it wasn't constantly on her mind but Agnes really didn't want to receive bad news…

"Go for it then, he'll be honest with you."

She looked up in surprise, sceptical at the idea of the Doctor being honest with her. He wasn't when it came to all the things she had deemed important so far so why would it be different now?

"No, he won't, not necessarily."

Donna rolled her eyes at her.

"Oh, trust me he will. Just give him a sad puppy look and that man will fold. He's always had a soft spot for you."

Agnes smiled. That was sweet…

"Thanks, Donna."

"Ah, don't mention it." The woman waved it off, nudging her shoulder with hers.

Maybe Donna was right, maybe Agnes shouldn't be worrying too much and just talk to the Doctor about her concerns and worries. He did have the whole "no spoilers" rule but this was important. She couldn't imagine him lying to her or giving her no answer at all when she would make that clear.

"Do you mind me calling my mom and grandad?" Donna piped up suddenly, holding up the mobile phone.

"Not at all, go ahead."

Donna mouthed thanks before getting up and walking towards the entrance area of the Tardis to sit down on the stairs instead for a little more privacy.

It really bothered Agnes that she wasn't able to help or come up with a plan herself. There was something they could do on the Sontaran ship, but she had no idea what it was. She wondered if Donna would have felt more comfortable with an older version of her around.

An Agnes that would actually know what to do…

She sighed, drowning out Donna's chattering on the phone, leaning her head back against the chair.

Her bones were much heavier than they have been before and Agnes didn't know why but she felt tired. Being on her legs all day still wasn't something she was used to, even after two whole weeks of travelling with the Doctor.

How pathetic.

Next to the tiredness, her skin started to tingle as well and there was this dull ache in her stomach like-

Agnes shot up, eyes wide. She looked over to Donna, who was sitting with her back turned to her, still talking to her mother.

"Donna!" she shouted in a whisper, her head growing heavier as well.

Donna turned to look at her and as she saw Agnes' panicked eyes she quickly said her farewells and hung up the phone.

"I'm jumping."

The woman rushed to her, grabbing her hand.

"No, don't leave just yet!"

Funny, she said it like Agnes had a choice. She really didn't.

Agnes smiled at her and tried to fight against the churning in her stomach and the ringing in her ears but it was to no avail. Of course not. This weird-ass ability never seemed to care what she wanted.

"The Doctor's gonna call soon! Don't worry!"

And then the redhead vanished before her eyes as she was pulled backwards.

Rain was lashing down. The water freezing cold as it drenched Agnes' clothes and hair. The girl blinked into the sudden darkness surrounding her, sounds of crashing waves and thunder and downpour hurt her ears.

There was yelling, too but Agnes barely saw something through the flashes of lightning clearing her sight every few seconds.

Stomping twice, she heard a hollow sound. Probably wood and… Agnes stopped, realizing that she was standing up. Not lying down or on her knees.

This was the first time she had managed to land on her feet…

"Fuck yes, spot landing!"

She took a step forward and slipped almost being sent down to the floor.

"Fuck!"

That was what she got for being prideful. A reality check.

"Language! Twice!"

Agnes caught herself on the railing, looking down, eyes following the direction the voice had come from there and she caught a glimpse of a man with a bowtie, turning a steering wheel.

"Doctor?!" She screamed, grinning widely despite the coldness seeping into her skin and she quickly climbed down the stairs to get on the same level as him.

"Hello, back you are!" The Doctor greeted her as she hugged him from behind.

"What's happening? Where are we?"

Her eyes were slowly growing accustomed to the darkness, and she was able to see clearer. If it wasn't for the rain getting in her eyes…

"Pirate ship!" The Doctor yelled excitedly.

The ship tilted to the side, making the both of them stumble. Agnes grabbed onto the Doctor not to fall and the man huffed in protest.

"Oh, nice!" Agnes gasped.

"Less talking, more working!" Amy's voice interrupted them and Agnes turned to look at the rest of the people located on the ship. Although the only people visible were Amy, Rory, an elder man and a little boy. "Agnes, get your ass down here and help us with the sails."

Agnes cursed as another wave hitting the ship almost made her fall over before she reached Amy and Rory. The woman grabbed her hand, pulling her towards the ropes and Agnes desperately clung to one, huffing as she was pulled to the side.

"Another stowaway?" The other man present, he had grey hair and a beard, shouted over the rain, looking at Agnes as if he wasn't sure whether or not he could trust her.

She wondered if it was the threatening expression Mace had seen in her.

"More like a passer-by! Hi, I'm Agnes!" She waved but regretted it when she was yanked to the side, grip on the rope slipping for a second.

"Captain Henry Avery, my pleasure milady," the man yelled back at her, seemingly struggling with the ropes just as bad.

Amy motioned for her to start pulling but when Agnes raised her eyebrows in question the redhead just threw her hand in the air. So she didn't know what to do either. What a relief.

She started pulling regardless, hands clenching around the rope as she tried to use her entire body weight to get it to move.

"Toby!" The captain shouted, motioning towards the little boy. "Find my coat. My compass is inside it, boy."

The boy stumbled towards a chest in the middle of the deck, rummaging through the contents.

And then the man turned to them, waving his arm.

"Heave ho, you bilge rats."

"Rats was all I could hear," Rory shouted back and Agnes laughed. Then she was hurled against the mast.

"Fuck!" She heaved, one hand gripping her side.

She was collecting bruises left and right on these adventures.

"Language, Agnes!" Amy teased.

"Shut up! That hurt!"

Amy grinned at her but her face quickly fell when her eyes glanced past her and Agnes turned around in time to see the boy standing there with the coat in his hand looking in horror as a crown fell out from beneath the cloth and onto the ground, rolling along the deck.

She frowned, confused, turning to see Rory and Amy looking worried and even the Doctor had turned as if he had been able to hear the sound of the crown hitting the floor.

They all stared in anticipation as a green light appeared and a transparent hand started reaching through the metal before a whole woman emerged, dark long hair falling down her back and framing her pretty face.

Agnes recognized the ghostly figure immediately.

"Oh shit!"
